Overwrought and undeniable, Meat Loaf's Bat out of Hell remains both one of rock's biggest--and least likely--hit albums. The byproduct of a partnership between beefy singer Marvin Lee "Meat Loaf" Aday and fellow journeyman/National Lampoon Road Show cast member Jim Steinman, Bat out of Hell met 1977's vaunted Year of Punk with a blast of neo-operatic, Wagnerian-scaled bombast (based on Peter Pan, no less) that was as reactionary as anything the spiked set and their supporters could possibly imagine--13 million units worth, and counting. Bat seems to have thrived on the same formula that's made Andrew Lloyd Webber a multimillionaire knight: if you do kitsch, do it big. And what could be more kitschy and emblematic of the '70s than the ubiquitous "classic rock" (an overused adjective that applies all too well here) of "Two out of Three Ain't Bad" or the breathless nookie-quest, "Paradise by the Dashboard Light," replete with Phil Rizzuto calling the play-by-play? This digitally remastered edition also includes '78-vintage bonus live cuts of "Bolero" (the live show's equally over-the-top opener) and "Bat out of Hell" that showcase the production's energetic, perfectionist bent. The sonic upgrading here also underscores the oft-overlooked efforts of producer Todd Rundgren. --Jerry McCulley

Fantastic! Catchy songs that are both rockin' and yet beautiful. This is one to have in your music collection. Good music! GREAT MUSIC!!! From start to finish it's fantastic.

5 out of 5 stars 30 years later, "Bat Out of Hell" still rocks.......2007-06-12

I pop this CD into the boombox, crank up the volume, and I'm seventeen-years-old again, angst-ridden but immortal.

5 out of 5 stars Ultimate Loaf.......2007-03-11

Neither Jim Steinman nor Meat Loaf have ever been better than on this album. From the first time I heard the first notes of the opening track, I knew I was hearing something special, something that reached for the universal. Something that dared to live, ferociously.

"Bat I" is without a doubt the finest of the three "Bat" albums, achieving much more than its predecessors in 25 less minutes. It was completely plugged into the melodramatic teenage energy that presumably set Steinman on this path in the first place, and that is why it continues to rock new listeners.

5 out of 5 stars Meatloaf---:Bat Out Of Hell".......2007-02-19

Great tape; I knew this when I purchases it....I was replacing a cassette tape of the same thing.

5 out of 5 stars An essential masterpiece.......2007-02-10

Yes, I am using the word masterpiece in reference to a Meatloaf album; and I am not ashamed! Jim Steinman 'the writer of BOOH,' is one of the most overlooked songwriters/arrangers in rock and roll. Todd Rundgren, rock genius/producer/arranger/guitarist on the album, was the only person who agreed to produce the album and that was after a year of rejections for Meat and Steinman. Rundgren arranged all the background vocals as well and they sound just as good as they do on all his solo albums.

The title track is one of the best openers in history and is a Bruce Springsteen esque heavy metal track with the ultimate motor cycle lyrics and the infamous motorcycle guitar 'played by Rundgren in one take.' "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" could be one of the catchiest songs ever written and would fit better in an Andrew Loyd Weber opera than on a 1970's rock album 'but that is the fun of the album.' "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" is the best ballad on the album and in the words of many would "forever change the love song."

Yes, Meat Loaf has produced a lot of less-than-stellar albums in the 30 years since Bat I came out; however, this cd is truly essential listening for anyone who is a music fan and is not too proud to listen to Meat Loaf.

The long-awaited third record in the Bat Out of Hell trilogy, The Monster Is Loose, wears bombast, pretension, and pyrotechnics proudly on its album sleeve and across the bulging disc's 14 tracks. More a pop orchestral mishmash than a well-defined rock opus, Bat III is dark, seemingly hopeless at times, and über dramatic. Oddly enough, that's also its saving grace. Meat Loaf and company create a great escape into the realm of grand theatricality, with a bunch of radio-friendly rock tunes that sound 20 years old, and several lyrically memorable AOR ballads to sustain it all the way to Broadway. With collaborator (and occasional defendant in Meat Loaf lawsuits) Jim Steinman, producers Desmond Child and Todd Rundgren, the Meat man consistently has the big sound booming and his despair and his rage on to the point that listeners may feel his pain a little too often. Bat III ain't for sissies. Balanced by the powerful female voices of Marion Raven, Patti Russo, and Jennifer Hudson; along with guest musicians and songwriting help from Steve Vai, Marilyn Manson's John 5, Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx, Queen's Brian May, and others; Meat Loaf's Monster has roared the unlikely rock star back to life like a bat out of Baghdad. --Martin Keller

Album Description

Bat Out of Hell III is Meat Loaf's long-awaited 3rd installment of the most successful rock music series of all time, with the two previous albums selling a total of 45 million copies around the world. Bat Out of Hell, released in 1977 and produced by Todd Rundgren, is the third best-selling album of all time, with 30 million copies sold worldwide, featuring such Meat Loaf/Jim Steinman standards as "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad," "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth" and the show-stopping "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights."

The Steinman-produced Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell, which came out in 1993, has sold more than 15 million, with the classic "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)," earning Meat Loaf a Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance.

Bat Out of Hell III continues the epic story in grand fashion, with contributions once again from Steinman and Rundgren, and produced by hitmaker Desmond Child. Bat Out of Hell III marks the triumphant return of the Bat Out of Hell saga, completing this remarkable trilogy!

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Mr. Loaf's trilogy is complete.......2007-07-12

First off I love Meatloaf, especially with ketchup. But instead of ketchup we get a lot of cheese with this release, and that's a good thing! Bat Out of Hell and Bat Out of Hell II are both classic albums, some of the best stuff in rock history--they had two important ingredients: 1. Meatloaf-one of the best singers in rock history--and 2. Jim Steinman--the second best songwriter in rock history (Bob Dylan numero uno) BOOH III is missing the later and the songs that are his on this album are 20-30 years old and some have been around the block with other singers. Meatloaf does conjure up some magic of old with Blind as a Bat, Its All Coming Back to Me Now, Bad For Good, Alive, The Future Aint What it Used to Be. Basically half the album is excellent, it just isnt brilliantly consistent as the first two. That being said it is still a must buy for Meatloaf fans and rock music lovers alike.

4 out of 5 stars An Album for All Occasions.......2007-07-11

I am not exactly a die-hard Meat Loaf fan. From his discography, I have just the three recordings from the "Bat Out of Hell" series, obviously including this one.

I can tell that this is a great CD to enjoy. His collection of opera-rock tunes (like "The Monster Is Loose", "Alive", "In the Land of the Pig, The Butcher is King") blended with some soulful and touchy ballads ("It's All Coming Back to Me", "Cry Over Me" and "Seize the Night") sounds very good and decent, a perfect choice for any type of mood, just like any of the previous albums from the "Bat Out of Hell" trilogy.

Comparing this with his previous albums, one can realize that although the music and the production has changed a bit, the style and the intent was to keep the exact formula that made the previous editions to be so successful as they were.

4 out of 5 stars buena sorpresa.......2007-07-06

Meat loaf presenta interpretaciones con la calidad de las letras, musica, instrumentación e interpretación sin igual

3 out of 5 stars Lame bat.......2007-06-16

If you attach the name "Bat out of Hell" to an album, you have to accept that it's being compared to part I and II of those. And that's a problem. Although acceptable as a pure Meatloaf album and not much worse than let's say "Welcome tt Neighbourhood" putting "Bat" on it makes it a simple case of cashing in on a legend for the last time. No wonder Steinman pulled out of this. What is lacking here is the pure adrenaline the real anger and fear that "living on the edge" enviroment both Bat I&II had (on Bat one they simply fought to live on music and on Bat II Meatloaf needed a hit to recover from his bancruptcy). Here this is blatant pompous rock by the numbers without soul. The choice of Songs is very bad (B grade Steinman and wannabe Steinman imposters) at the end I was actually expecting "Out of the Frying Pan" too.

Stay clear of this one. It's got no soul. So it is of no importance.

And stay clear of Meatloaf live to, he's lost it somewhere in the last 5 years. I saw him twice and he utterly disappointed me. He should just retire his singing career and concentrate on acting.

5 out of 5 stars Great DVD.......2007-06-14

My husband likes Meat Loaf so I got this for him as a little gift. He loves the DVD and the delivery was prompt and in excellent packaging.

I love these CD's and listen to them all the time. This is a culmination of all his best music. I highly recommend.

5 out of 5 stars Meatloaf is one of the best Music Lords.......2006-08-13

I don't think I've been more drawn in by music since ever! Any chance I find a Meatloaf song. It's immediately on my MP3 Player. If I don't got the cord to get the song I'll e-mail it to myself so I can sync it later. That's just Meatloaf. The kind of music you've got to have.

I've always loved Meatloaf ever since I was what? Five? Four? Maybe when I was just being born. His music is just fantastic. I love numerous of his songs. My top favorites are "Paradise By the Dashboard Light", "Dead Ringer for Love", "I Would Do Anything for Love(But I Won't Do That", and who could forget "Hot Patootie-Bless My Soul/What Ever Happened to Saturday Night?"?

Speak bad of him all you want but Meatloaf has this thing that just lures you closer to listen. Whether you bop to the music, or just listen intentively. Every song tells a story. And Meatloaf does just that.

5 out of 5 stars All of the Best From Meat Loaf .......2006-07-11

Meat Loaf and legendary songwriter Jim Steinman collaborated in the 70s to produce the ground-breaking album "Bat Out of Hell", and in 1993 to produce the follow-up "Bat Out of Hell II". In between, several other albums were released, and these more obscure albums still managed to produce some memorable songs.

This great double-CD collection contains all of Meat Loaf's most memorable songs, including "Paradise by the Dashboard Light", "Bat Out of Hell", "Modern Girl", "I Would Do Anything for Love", and "I'd Lie for You (and That's the Truth)". Steinman's superior songwriting shines through, and Meat Loaf's trademark rock opera sound with the various instrumentals and backing vocals is evident on each song. Although Steinman didn't write the songs for many of Meat Loaf's post-"Bat Out of Hell" albums, the songs from these albums contained in this collection are very good.

I've been a fan of Meat Loaf's for many years, and I am eagerly anticipating the release of "Bat Out of Hell III", due out soon. In the meantime, Meat Loaf fans will truly enjoy this great collection of his most memorable hits.

5 out of 5 stars THE VERY BEST OF MEATLOAF.......2006-01-18

I've been a fan of Meatloaf since His album "Bat of Hell". I like the dramatic use of orchestral and backgound vocals. I think that Meatloft's voice is so powerful, and these songs prove that. This is by far The best album of Meatloaf's performances. This album along with "Bat Out of Hell", and "Bat Out of Hell II" is all that you need for your collection of Meatloaf. This is a great career retrospective album.

5 out of 5 stars His Music Still Glows Like The Metal On The Edge Of A Knife.......2005-12-19

For years, I have been searching for a Meat Loaf album for my collection. I loved all the songs I'd heard by him, and I wanted to hear more. However, I was not able to find a compilation that suited me well. Until today, when I found the two disc "The Very Best Of Meat Loaf".

This cd has all the Meat Loaf you need. All of his biggest hits are here, including "You Took The Words Right Of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)" (love that intro), "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad", "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)", and, of, course, "Paradise By The Dashboard Light". And they all sound great. I also enjoyed the songs I've never heard before, such as "Objects In The Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are" and "Life Is A Lemon And I Want My Money Back".

I have a few gripes. One is that the cds don't fill the eighty minute time limit cds allow. I know most of Meat Loaf's best stuff, but they could've at least put "All Dressed Up With No Place To Go" and "Read 'Em And Weep" on here. But my biggest disappointing (a minor one, albeit), is that his song he sang as Eddie in "The Rocky Horror Show", "Hot Patootie Bless My Soul (Whatever Happened To Saturday Night)", is not included. Granted, it's not necessarily a true Meat Loaf song, but it's a song he's very much associated with and it would've been nice if it was included.

Other than that, I have no real complaints. This collection is a must have.

At a certain point, bad taste and bombast becomes so excessive and so grandiose that they're no longer an easily dismissed irritation but an astonishing monument to the warped imagination. Such a monument is Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell, the long-delayed sequel to 1977's Bat Out of Hell. Once again songwriter/producer Jim Steinman has isolated high-school parking-lot aphorisms and inflated them to Wagner-on-Broadway proportions, casting Mr. Loaf as a heavy-metal Ezio Pinza. Typical of the album's strategy is its big hit single, "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)." Steinman piles on the guitars, drums, synthesizers, and choral voices as if he were Phil Spector producing Kiss playing the Who songbook. The rest of the album tackles the themes of teenage lust, frustration, and rock & roll fantasies in similar fashion. It's somehow beside the point to complain about the puerile lyrics, the leaden rhythms, the derivative melodies, the histrionic vocals, or the overblown arrangements. Steinman knows how to push his audience's buttons, and with Meat Loaf's help, he hits those buttons with a sledgehammer. --Geoffrey Himes

5 out of 5 stars For love.......2006-11-29

For some reason, people ask me - and I'm not kidding - "What is it that Meat Loaf won't do for love?"

So here's the list:

HE WON'T:

* Lie to you (and that's a fact)
* Never forget the way you feel right now, oh no, no way
* Forgive himself if you don't go all the way tonight
* Ever do it better than he does it with you (so long, so long)
* Ever stop dreaming of you every night of his life (no way)
* Forget everything and "see that it's time to move on"
* Let it all turn to dust so we'll all fall down
* Be screwing around

For those of you really curious about the inner workings of his heart and level of commitment, here's what he will, in fact, do for love...

HE WILL:

* Run right into Hell and back
* take a vow and seal a pact
* be there til the final act
* do anything you've been dreaming of
* Raise you up and help you down
* Get you right out of this Godforsaken town
* Make it all a little less cold
* Hold you sacred and hold you tight
* Colorize your life because you're so sick of black and white
* make it all a little less old
* make you some magic with his own two hands
* build you an emerald city from grains of sand
* give you something you can take home
* cater to every fantasy you got
* hose you down with holy water if you get too hot
* take you places you've never known

*all items listed are from the Meat Loaf song "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" from the album Bat Out of Hell 2

5 out of 5 stars This is so much fun to listen to!.......2007-07-13

4 out of 5 stars You'll find your faith again............2004-12-10

The movie was outstanding, the soundtrack just as good. Steve Martin stars as a burned-out charlatan evangelist who comes to a town that hasn't had rain in a long time. Martin finds his own faith throught the course of the plot. You'll find yours just listening to the soundtrack. The CD opens up with Don Henley's "You better sit down" which surprisingly made the charts. Patti Labelle and Edwin Hawkin's "Are you ready for a Miracle" was probably the most stunning piece of the whole album, but all the music is upbeat and heartening. One minus was the instrumental music was not included.

4 out of 5 stars Disappointing, but contains some gems.......2004-10-31

Disappointing, mostly because this CD contains different (and inferior) versions of many of the songs in the movie. Nevertheless, it contains a couple of gems. In particular, the Patti Labelle version of "Are You Ready for a Miracle" is so powerful that one listen could make Osama fall on his knees and praise Jesus.

3 out of 5 stars The Incidental Music Is Not On This CD.......2004-03-21

Like the other reviewer of March 2000, I was hoping that the exceedingly beautiful background music would be included, but it wasn't and I don't know why. Not everyone loves Gospel. I am not religious, and I'll listen to Gospel music in a movie, but I certainly won't listen to it on purpose!

The best music in this movie which I watched a dozen times just to hear it is near the end when the rains finally come to the parched, drought-forever town. It simply gives you goose pimples. This CD is like the score to "The Horse Whisperer", if you're not careful (like me) you ended up with nothing but country singing, not knowing there was a 2nd CD made with Thomas Newman's spectacular score! The producers of movie score CD's should know there's two types of customers: those who like songs and others who like just the instrumental background music. They lose the latter market if they don't pay attention.

5 out of 5 stars Never thought I would like Gospel music!.......2003-12-13

Excellent CD to go along with an excellent movie.

5 out of 5 stars Great Gospel Soundtrack.......2003-04-08

This is a rare occasion that Hollywood would put out a movie with a great gospel soundtrack. If you haven't seen the film, you're missing out on a special treat. It's about a man who loses faith and finds it again. Hollywood has the ability to make good films, but they only come around once in a while. I believe that any old-fashioned Christian will really enjoy this soundtrack. It's the best fun you can have of this quality. It's quality comes from the talent of Cliff Eidelman who composes works for 'Alien Trilogy,' 'Free Willy 3,' 'Star Trek VI,' 'A Simple Twist of Fate,' and 'My Girl 2.'

'Change in My Life' sung by John Pagano, has been recorded by artists "Rockapella." You remember the Maxwell House guys from their album, 'Don't Tell Me You Do.' An uplifting song that will bring joy and hope to the broken hearted. It's soulful melody and smooth rhythms will rock you away to Heaven. Meat Loaf who stars in the movie and sings 'Paradise by the Dashboard Light.' Others to compliment the album are the talents of Don Henley (The Eagles), Patti LaBelle, in her best guest appearance and Wynnona Judd. Rounding it out is Jazz scene's own George Duke. And, Black Gospel's top lady Albertina Walker singing 'Blessed Assurance.' The most exciting of the film at the end when the rains come and the people are celebrating. It just puts the Holy Spirit all through you. Cliff Eidelman does a great job of putting this soundtrack together. You can check out more of his work in, 'Now and Then' and 'One True Thing.' If you like more of great gospel music done by top artists may I suggest 'The Apostle-[Sountrack]' from the film starring Robert Duvall. I just know you'll be changed after hearing this.

5 out of 5 stars great album .......2006-12-24

i would rate meatloaf albums in this order=bat out of hell one and two are the best followed by bat three, than welcome to the neighborhood, than chsib.his eighties albums did not do much for me at all.i think this is a great album and liked every song.unlike another reviewer i thought his voice is excellent.if you are a meatloaf fan you will love this album.where angels sing is a beautiful song ranking up with heaven can wait.

5 out of 5 stars Meat is the man!.......2006-11-06

Great album by a great singer! Most songs are grade A!Meats voice is amazing. These songs are more ballads and rock songs than opera.if stienmans name was slapped on the album this would have been even more popular.

5 out of 5 stars Welcome to the Neighborhood.......2006-10-29

This is great album.Of course not better than Bat I and II. But it belongs to the group of his best records. Even it was able to enter top 20 in the USA( I think 17th place and was platinum for almost million sold coppies)and it is not so usual. And for the rest of the world it was big success( in the UK reached 2nd place). The song I'd lie for you is amazing and Original sin too. Meat is really able to make a great album without Jim Steinman( wrote only two songs).

I really recomend this album.

4 out of 5 stars Great music, Ok album.......2006-10-02

The title to this review says it all. The music is great. All the composers involved try to stay in the signature Steinman sound, yet they all have their individual differences. The problem with this album does not lie with the producers, composers or instrumentalists, it lies with Meat himself. It almost sounds painful to hear him try and sing. His voice is not what it used to be. His age shows especially as you listen to songs, such as Martha and Where Angels Sing, as he gasps for air and can barely squeak out many of the higher parts. Operatic, thunderous voice, not here folks. If you want a newer album of his that is good, buy Couldn't Have Said it Better. Totally different voice.

1 out of 5 stars coulda been better.......2006-09-03

'If you need an experience of pure meaningless noise, this one's for you.
However, dont expect it to change your life much.

The price listed above for the album is a very good example of the old cliche, "you get what you pay for."'

REVISION

The above review, written several months ago, is a perfect example of the type of review I don't like, as it is not really a review at all but more an opinion. I was guilty of writing the above opinion in September 2006 purley on implulse, but now I realize that it was not fair of me to write it without explaining -- as this is what a review is.

I generally dislike reviews that say stupid things like: get this cause I like it. Or get that cause my husband likes it. Even if those statements are positive, they still are opinoins and not reviews. Then there are those who write really long opinoins diguised as reviews. That should not be done either; and Amazon should reject those kinds of things ideally.

Now I'd like to take the time to explain why I gave this album one star. I came across this album quite by mistake. I purchased it from the now-extinct Tower records for about $7 (full price)thinking it was an early meatloaf album [possibly cause of the cover]. When I opened the CD and actually discovered that it really was released in 1995, I was a bit taken aback, but decided to keep it anyway and see what it was about.

When I first played it, it sounded alright. I even discovered that it had a song I recognized: "I'd Lie for you and that's the Truth". On first impression, none of the songs were that bad. Only one thing got me pissed at Meatloaf instantly upon my first listen of this album, which I will discuss later. But for now I'd like to continue what I was saying before. Anyway, I listened to this album again. Then again. Then a few more times. After that I stopped. It just went stale on me. Even now it sits in my house; I never touch it. I don't know why I still keep it.

Why did it go stale, you ask? Because I just grew tired of hearing it after several listens. Because after several listens, I could smell the gimikry of this album a mile away--no foolin'! Firstly, this album is really just a collection of generic tunes created to appear like Meatloaf was really trying to do something serious. It has a very 80's retro sound to it, yet without any intrinsic quality, as if the songs where written as imitations of good 80's songs that where good enough sung originally. "Where the Rubber Meets the Road" may have some good imagery in the lyrics, but that one sounds like Meatloaf was copying his previous release. "Original Sin"--just listen to various early-eighties metal albums to hear many songs that sound like this. Ozzy Ozbourne's early solo albums have many songs that can sound like "Original Sin". "Left in the Dark" can easily be compared with many 80's new wave songs (the Motels come to mind for some reason).

I got one comment that "Not a Dry Eye in the House" is a good song. Well just compare that one to several songs on Meatloaf's own "Dead Ringer" album. The last two on the WTTN album can be placed that way as well. Then what about "Amnesty is Granted"? Well, lyricwise, it is an okay song, but musically...it's completely generic. Just compare it with anything Sammy Hagar sung before and you'll have a much more authentic experience.

Now getting to the subject of what instantly peeved me about this album on my first listen. It's simple! What does the album cover show? A 1940's female in fright on some stairs. What does this make one think of? 1940's detective stories and such, of course. When we open the jewel case, we even see Mr Meatloaf himself dressed as a 1940's private-eye. When we look through the sleeve, we see a listing of the album-tracks with an illustration to go with each track, all related to 1940's detective genre imagery. Yet no song on the album has ANYTHING to do with 1940's detective storytelling in any way. No song on this album even makes you thik of the 1940's in any respect! Except maybe for the above-mentioned "Not a Dry Eye", and that one more because of its lyrics. Then maybe that short Spansih-sounding instrumental montage that falls somewhere between tracks 5 and seven or something.

Why couldn't Meatloaf, if he's gonna use 1940's imagery, put some of that into the music and make it interesting. He could have utilized swing elements; he could have put some jazzy sounds into it; maybe some big-band sounds here and there and mixed it with the modern hard rock sound. Instead, the tracks on this album are just straight-forward modern hard rock. If anything, they make you think of the 80's more than the 40's. What was Mr Aday really trying to do, imitate early Rick Springfield? That's exactly what Rick Springrield did in his Comic Book Heroes album--the exact same thing! He used comic-book images and tried to associate them with the song titles, yet only one or two songs on the album really had anything to do with comic books or heroes all together!

Ultimately, my reason for giving this album one star, is not as much in criticism of the album itself, but more to critisize the ARTIST, who in my belief did not and still does not make much effort to try harder.

3 out of 5 stars Dead Ringer = Dead on Arrival.......2007-05-13

Definitely not Bat Out of Hell caliber. Another side of Meat Loaf that is a bit uncooked. Not an album that I listened to over and over, but there are a couple highlights.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful album.......2006-07-01

Ignore the previous reviewer, as for angst, this is no worse than Bat out of Hell, so if you liked that, you'll love this too. The production isn't the best, but it's a great album nonetheless.

2 out of 5 stars Feh.......2005-07-29

This album is written for people that are emotionally 16 years old and insane. Every song is from the point of a disenfranchised boy moaning at the world. The end of 'I'm gonna love her for both of us', when he keeps saying the title with different inflections...don't you just picture Rainman rocking in a corner somewhere? And if she doesn't love him back, he'll kill her! Unless she's in bed with a group of his best friends?? No wonder 'Everything is Permitted.'

This is bad. The production is bad, the tone of the guitar is godawful, Meat's voice sounds worse on this cd than any of his others by far (I know he lost his voice and was doing weird things to try to get it back. I don't hold it against him, but I'm the one that has to listen to it.) The band is fine, and I like some of the actual music. It's the song titles and lyrics that are awful.

4 out of 5 stars How did this get such a bad review?.......2005-06-23

I had never heard this album until recently. I'd heard "Dead ringer for love" and loved it. But all I'd heard of the album was that it was not half as good at "Bat out of Hell". Well what I say to that is that this album is a brilliant follow up to the album. What were they expecting? An album better than Bat out of hell? Thats impossible. But anyway, the album starts off with the brilliant "Peel out", which will be banging in your head for hours. The next few songs are the ones that get the chorus' stuck in your head. Even though "Read em and weep" is slightly too ballady, it will still get stuck on your brain! "Everything is permitted" is perhaps not the best way to end the album. "Dead ringer for love" would've been quite a finish! Though Meat Loaf's voice is recognisably more high pitched, you would still associate this album to the artist who made an album that stayed in the UK charts for 472 weeks! This is a must have album.

5 out of 5 stars Best Meat Album EVER.......2005-05-20

Yes I said best ever. Bat is good, don't get me wrong. But more than you deserve and I'm gonna love her for both of us have sentimental value here. Okay, so I'm a little biased. But I loved this album! Get it! Now! What are ya waitin' for, an invitation??

5 out of 5 stars Sounds GREAT..........2006-11-16

I am going to review many Time-Life items that I have purchased over the years - Sounds of the 70's, Sounds of the 70's (Take Two), Legends of Rock & Roll, numerous 60's CDs & 50's CDs. The recordings are excellent and I know all the tunes - most have at least 18 songs. I would recommend any of Time-Life's compilations to anyone, who is looking for a great CD with alot of songs, we all know. The only complaint I have is that the CDs should have been maximized on the 50's & 60's selections. All in all, a very good purchase...

A good rocking effort from Meat Loaf. Songs like TESTIFY, TEAR ME DOWN, DO IT, and LOVE YOU OUT LOUD prove he has not lost his energy for delivering the goods. One noteable mention, for those who are not usually inclined to let a CD play thru til it stops on its own, you may miss the hidden track tacked on a few seconds following the end of the last song - Meat's cover of MERCURY BLUES - taking a country favorite and giving it a little more of a rock edge.

All in all, good stuff, and an absolute must for any Meat fan, and still a worthy addition to the causal Loaf listener.

And I can't say it any better than that.

I met MEAT and I think it was Jim too, this summer on the GREEN MONSTER during a Red Sox baseball game at Fenway Park. We chatted for a while and he is a genuine cool man, so I figured I should finally purchase some of his music and got five of his CD's including Bat out of Hell III. I'm glad I did. Rock On.

5 out of 5 stars Meat in Fine form.......2006-10-24

Just because it doesn't say bat out of hell doesnt mean i wont like it.I love welcome to the neiboorhood and i love this one now.Songs on hear are great.Vocals by meat are in top form. Its more rock than opera but that dont bother me.If this album said bat out of hell 3 it would've sold millions.

5 out of 5 stars Not the same, not bad either.......2006-08-22

It doesn't sound like "Bat Out of Hell" 1 or 2, and that's a good thing. Enjoy some variety, while still getting Meat Loaf's emotion and powerful vocals. I loved this album. It's style is more like "Welcome to the Neighborhood" but better, faster, and louder songs. I think Meat's voice is only getting better and more fine-tuned with age. The lyrics may not be reminicent of the horny teen-ager albums but I'm happy to say I've grown out of that phaze and I'm glad Meat Loaf did too.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome music.......2006-06-27

I love his music, his voice, his facial expression, as you can experience on the DVD.., Meat Loaf, live with the Melbourne Sympony Orchestra. Don't think I've ever heard a song of his that I didn't like. I
