best rock band ever.......2004-02-27
Near life experience is truely a masterpiece. Some say it's the best Come-record and maybe they're right. Great production (listen to the drums!), great songs. Powerful, vulnerable, beautiful. A must-have
One of the finest rock albums of all time.......2000-03-30
Very few bands integrate the musical lineage of erstwhile blues & rock with the geist of contemporary life as effortlessly as Come, and this is probably their finest album. It's a work of simultaneous pounding strength and inner fragility that is rare in any musical genre, let alone the commercial bullring that is "modern rock". Anyone who has contemplated a marriage between the crunch of the powerchord and the pathos of a minor key would do well to check out this masterpiece.
a dark gem.......1999-03-07
after eleven:eleven and don't ask, don't tell, come deals with the loss of its rhythm section with a gorgeous, savage little record. the songs are tighter and stronger; chris sings (if sing is the word--it's a tuneful mumble, like someone in the shower one house away); the guitars crunch. high points: 'hurricane' is the highlight of the band's live set--a tour de force, as stunning lyrically as its twists and turns and sudden calm eye are sonically. 'bitten' updates 'yr reign' but rides harder, with trumpets shouting the end--a marvelous piece, beautifully produced. and closing a fine group of eight songs is 'sloe-eyed,' which takes 'german song' and slows it down.

!!! CONSIDER IT BROKEN !!!.......2005-04-27
OK, PLEASE TELL ME HOW ALL THE CRAPPY SCREAMO BANDS GET BIG, AND INCREDIBLE BANDS LIKE THIS DONT. THESE GUYS SHRED IN EVERY SONG. THE GUITARS, AMAZING, THE VOX, ABSOLUTELY PENETRATING, AND THE DRUMS.... WOW. THE COVER OF AT THE GATES IS INSANE, BUT DOESNT COMPARE TO THEIR OWN MATERIAL. WHEN I REVIEW THIS ONLY 7 OTHERS ALSO REVIEWED IT, MEANWHILE BANDS LIKE SIMPLE PLAN OR BILLY NO TALENT GET LIKE A MILLION. ITS ACTUALLY SCARY TO THINK THAT THE MUSIC SCENE AS A WHOLE IS DYING, NOT JUST PUNK ANYMORE. IF YOU LIKE BANDS THAT SHRED LIKE IN FLAMES AND AT THE GATES, AND CATCHIER THAN ALKALINE TRIO OR AFI, THEN THIS BAND IS A MUST. SERIOUSLY CHECK OUT THIS CD TO GET YOUR ASS BLOWN AWAY!
Great musical style - minus trendy fashion and emo.......2005-01-11
This band is very fun to listen to. I love how they fuse the drum style of hardcore punk in the vein of With Honor, Bane and What Feeds The Fire with thrash guitar solos, blistering screams and perfectly woven melodies. With this discription they might seem like any band out now. Given, they are not a completely original entity blazing a totally new trail. On that note, what they actually DO is take elements from harcore, punk, thrash and metal and make a very great mix and do it much better than many other acts now. This is all done without completely taking themselves seriously in being hip to the newest fashion and trends, not to mention being devoit of whiney sappy emo which seems to be ever so popular among Hot Topic fakers. This is honestly taking music like hardcore back to the golden days. Most bands can not say that now a days. If my descrition makes it sound like the music is not to far from bands like Shadows Fall, Thrice or As I Lay Dying then please, somehow, check out the tracks "Six Foot Revolver" and "Slaughter Of The Soul."
In all, just a great fun listen. I can see these guys flying under the radar for awhile, which can be exciting for true music (and not fashion/trend) fans.
Great for fans of: Bane, Red Tape, Shadows Fall, With Honor, Stretch Arm Strong...and hell, even Iron Maiden fans could give this a spin.
Awsome band.......2004-10-17
If you want to find good bands, just check out hopeless records. All their bands are amazing on their line up. One of the many awsome bands are Break The Silence, these guys rule! Fusing together the awsome mix of punk, screamo, hardcore and metalcore. This album truly stands out, and this band is going to be big!
Pick this one up.......2004-09-29
Break the Silence's newest release shows what happens when just the right amount of metal is mixed with heartfelt sincerity and wonderful musicianship. While Break the Silence has the ability to snap your neck with their ferocious metalcore attack, they also are able to incorporate more hooks than your dad's tackle box. When you add in the soaring harmonies that occasionally make a cameo, you've got yourself a winner. Lyrically and vocally "Near Life Experience" shines, as the tone is heavy and hurried without ever coming across as defeatist or nihilistic. As far as singles go, "Iris" is as furiously driven as anything you're likely to hear, and "Moving Day" as poignantly defining as anything put out by The Descendents in recent memory. At the Gates' "Slaughter of the Soul" also gets a noteworthy cover; it's as metal as you remember it being. The ability to transcend genres effectively is not one you stumble across very often, so take advantage of Break the Silence's work and pick this one up.
good vocals an afterthought?.......2004-09-15
this is another band that is like many others. they make a good noise, but the lead screamer either doesn't know how to sing or is screaming, grunting, and goaning like that on purpose. those of you that like this kind of screaming will enjoy this album. the music is pretty good. but i need vocals. buy if you like noise.

Album Description
The Side Effects of Dying, the debut CD from the singer/songwriter duo Reynolds Robinson, offers a very tongue-in-cheek look at Pam Reynolds' benchmark clinical death experience case that continues to rattle the foundations of science worldwide.
Since 1991, the name of Atlanta-based Pam Reynolds has been synonymous with consciousness research. Television, print media and radio, both here and abroad, have detailed Pam Reynolds and her groundbreaking brain-aneurysm case. Before her clinical death experience, Pam was a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, orchestrator and songwriter.
On The Side Effects of Dying, Pam has partnered with critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Rob Robinson. A Mississippi native now based in Nashville, Rob wrote and produced three CDs with his jazz/rock band, Fearless Freap, and later formed the group Whirlybird, which released a CD that charted at college radio and Modern A/C. Pam and Rob began writing together in 2003.
The Side Effects of Dying was mixed by Rodney Mills (Atlanta Rhythm Section, Sheryl Crow) and takes the listener on a journey to the edge of consciousness and back again. Among its many highlights are the first track, "If I Live Through This," a humorous, cautionary tale about why you should never pick up women at the state fair; "Young Avenue" welcomes you to your independence with reckless abandon; "The Crying Fields" is an introspective look at the search for forgiveness; and "What Are We Waiting For?" challenges every fear that ever held you back. Two of the songs on the CD, "Coming Back to Life" and the title track, focus on Pam's near-death experience.

Heart Music.......2005-11-04
What can I say about this music? I'll not pretend to be objective. I'm a Near Death Experiencer and I find my emotions and memories being taken in some colossal hand and squeezed; sometimes tearfully, sometimes wistfully and sometimes with humour. I love the immersion that only music can engender, being at once dispersed into the field of melodic imagination and simultaneously present, riveted to the words themselves, startling into recognition that which is simply *there*. It's sung with a curiously intimate inflection that is usually associated with conversation. LOVE IT!!!!!!!
Entertaining, pure solid sound.......2005-11-02
I like this sound and I have to listen to it when I come in from the office. Even though I'm in the City, I'm transposed to the country roads with the top down and the sound turned up as high as it can go. Ah, what fun. The Side Effects Of Dying with Reynolds/Robinson is a definite for my Christmas lists. And it was inspired by a true story. What a story!

Props to electroslide.......2002-10-08
Somehow I missed their first album but I was able to get my hands on Near Life Experience. Now I must say, I have alot of respect for these folks and what they can do, but some tracks I just can't hang with. None-the-less what I hear on this album is a truckload of potential and some wonderful tracks to keep me happy with my purchase. Several tracks have a sound reminicent of St. Germain, others of old 45 jazz and funk albums, yet somehow they also get in some experimental electronic / downbeat / dnb-ish / jazz influenced numbers. Some I think they could do without. If you're looking for something new to round out a collection by all means check this group out. If not its inconsistency may turn many people away. Still deserving of four stars for the effort though :)

Blaze still has it!.......2004-11-07
I am a huge Lillian Axe fan! I was lucky enought to have them come to Chicago a few times over that past few years. Then I heard that NLE was coming. I had never heard anything by them. I heard it live & bought the CD at the show! This entire CD is awesome! There are not words to describe this other than it rocks! And I also HIGHLY recommend catching them live if you get the chance!!!
Oh, my!.......2003-11-26
This is awesome music. I feel like I am simply piling on here, but Steve Blaze is a sonic prophet. The writing and music are out of this world fantastic. I would liken the sound to those who are interested in checking it out as a bit of a darker, sludgier Lillian Axe; with many more chord progressions and layering, fewer solos, but far more impacting in effect. This is hard rock at its finest!
NLE- Day of the Silver Sun cd is awesome!.......2002-12-16

So buy the cd and support them...... NLE ROCKS!!!
Day of Silver Sun.......2002-10-18
This is the best music Steve Blaze has ever written, and that's saying a lot considering what a great band Lillian Axe is. The lyrics on this cd are amazing. Every song rocks. I really like Eden, Cradle By The Sea, Change Your Mind, Conginital Sadness, Mother, and New World Spirit. I got mine on release day and have not stopped listening to it since. Also check out Lillian Axe Live 2002. It's a double cd for a single cd price. You will not be dissapointed with either.
Day of Silver Sun.......2002-10-18
This is the best music that Steve Blaze has ever written. This cd absolutely smokes. The lyrics alone on Eden will blow you away.

Album Description
"The 21st Century Soundtrack for the movie in your head." 70 plus minutes of breathtaking electro/symphonica. In the style of Enigma, Mike Oldfield and Steve Hackett, but with a sonic pallette that transcends the familiar. Sci-fi soundscapes, Celtic symphonica and deeply personal and passionate Tone Poems engulf the listener with beauty, darkness and the majesty of illumination. This recording raises the bar on the audio listening experience. Beautifully produced by veteran synth wizard, Kevin Bartlett, for audiophiles and dreamers. Near-Life experience is one of the most cinematic and visual recordings to come our way in a long time. Dust off your headphones and watch your mind
Customer Reviews:
Don't Miss It!.......2007-02-28
Kevin Bartlett's first solo CD is one of those rare recordings that transforms the listener. The first notes of the first track (Gayatri)put the soul on alert - this is music that cuts through walls and defenses and speaks to the emotional core.
Bartlett, a master producer and technician, is also a Romantic composer from the old school, layering sound upon sound to create a symphonic wave which sweeps the listener away. This is music to cry to, to laugh to, to marvel at.
Technically, this CD is a wonder. A world of instruments, melodies and sounds, heard especially well with headphones, swirl together in a harmonic whole but there is no small army of musicians: it is all Bartlett.
Near Life Experience is a truly intimate experience, a sense of being offered a close-up yet compassionate look into ourselves. Bartlett's music achieves what only the very best music does: it finds a shortcut to the guts. Listen.
The Gold Dust of Your Next Dream.......2003-10-14
From over the horizon, just beyond the whispered vapors of the mid-sleep's dream you can't quite remember, arises the call of the first track, GAYATRI, and, as its opening ethereal sonic-clouds break into a cavernous rock beat and melody transcribed from the bluest sky, you are lifted to the mountain top of the musical equivalent of Higher Consciousness...
Too much? Any apparent hyperbole in the words above is the fault of language (or perhaps just this writer) to contain the cerebrum-opening majesty of listening to the first few moments of Kevin Bartlett's masterwork, NEAR LIFE EXPERIENCE. This music -- rooted in the abstract art of progressive rock, film scores; classical and ambient music -- is a soul-colored Rorschach test for the inquiring listener willing to venture beyond the 4-minute vocal song and into the pulsing neural landscape of his/her own brain.
Throughout NLE, Mr. Bartlett's music soothes, chides, and perplexes like a sonic postcard from a friendly fellow traveler further down The Road of Knowing who can't wait for you to catch up and enjoy the view with him. From the evocative orchestral/electronica strains of "Miserere Mei" to the sound-design ballad confections of "Across My Heart" to the sci-fi New Romanticism of "Standards and Practices", Kevin's creativity blossoms with the metaphoric insight of "one who has been there and back".
Yes, this is art that challenges the same way that life challenges: with mystery and wisdom; willfulness and passivity; shock and comfort. If you want to know more about yourself, your family, your friends, your pets, your neighborhood, your city, your country, your world, and your universe - take a spin on the NEAR LIFE EXPERIENCE and spiral through a galaxy strained from the gold dust of your next dream.

Album Description
Imagine if David Lynch directed a postmodern remake of the classic film Frankenstein. Then imagine the sort of soundtrack he might choose -- ominous Transylvanian atmospherics designed to fill viewers with a deep and joyful sense of dread. Near Life Experience is a collection so firmly rooted in the past that it becomes disturbingly relevant in the uncertain present.
