About the Artist
What does FortyPercent' mean? Well, FortyPercent really does not mean anything. It is simply a name conceived from the confluence of four distinct personalities in pursuit of one indiscriminate passion. Not fame, not fortune, but the opportunity to inspire others as they have been inspired themselves. One can look at it as a sort of beg, steal and borrow concept, with the intent to give back, of course. FortyPercent's inspiration can be traced throughout several generations of brilliance: from classical movement, to romantic melody, to the opus of intricate, yet simple guitar structure, and back again. Beg for simply an ounce of genius from a mind like Beethoven, steal a handful of heart and soul from 'Ol Blue Eyes' himself and borrow as much artistic adeptness from the likes of a modern talent such as U2 as possible, and one (or four) would have enough musical inspiration to go anywhere and everywhere. Where exactly do they want to go? Into the passionate hearts and creative minds of those aspiring musicians to follow in their footsteps. To have the opportunity to give back what they begged for, perhaps stolen, and borrowed from those who inspire them.
Product Description
What exactly does FortyPercent sound like? They sound like the music they write. Describing their music with words on paper does not justify the range of feeling and emotion, and the messages the individual listener may receive. It would be best to leave that responsibility to the advocate and the critic. FortyPercent sounds like themselves: simple and inspired. With a piece of the past and a grasp on the future, FortyPercent one day hopes to be inspiring; to mean something.

Album Description
A tribute to the late Elliott Smith featuring indie-rock notables including the Decemberists ("Clementine"), Helio Sequence ("Satellite"), the Thermals ("Ballad of Big Nothing"), Swords ("I Didn't Understand"), Dolorean ("The Biggest Lie"), and Sean Croghan ("Hard Times"). "Hard Times", the song chosen by Croghan, a close friend and former roommate of Smith's, is previously unreleased. Ten percent of the net proceeds will be donated to the Elliott Smith Foundation's charity, Free Arts for Abused Children. The Thermals' version of "Ballad of Big Nothing" was recorded and mixed by Smith's ex-girlfriend, Joanna Bolme, at Jackpot Studios, a studio that Smith helped founder Larry Crane start. Many of the artists knew Elliott personally, and played with Elliott at various times. The album features liner notes from those who knew and loved Elliott Smith. It was mastered by Tony Lash, Elliott's former Heatmiser bandmate. Digipak.
Customer Reviews:
excellent tribute to Elliott Smith.......2006-12-25
Being a really big fan of Elliott Smith, I really liked this compliation. You can feel that the artists here actually love Elliotts and enjoy giving their own interpratation to his work.
Touching.......2006-05-24
Before I even put the CD in my player, I read the dedications on the inside cover and those alone made my heart ache. I think anyone who is a fan of Elliott has a story of their own to tell about his music; and the small bits of input from the bands and the "hidden" dedication under the CD make a beautiful little introduction to this album.
The CD itself is outstanding, the artists that contributed to this collaberation did a phenomenal job bringing their own style to some of (in my opinon) the best of Elliott's music while staying true to the original sound and feel of the songs. This is deffinately one of the most fantastic tributes to any musician I have ever heard and I highly recommend it.
exhaultation for Elliott's work.......2006-03-28
My favorite is the cover of Happiness. I am plenty happy to disburse the brilliance of this compilation to family and friends.
The songwriting shines..........2006-03-24
I am a little hesitant about Elliott Smith tribute albums because, obviously, I love Elliott Smith's music and would hate to hear someone butcher it. I decided to go for this album since I'd read a couple of positive reviews and because some money would go to charity. I'm glad I decided to try it! Some of the versions on this album are quite different than the originals, which turns out to be a good thing. I knew Elliott Smith had a rare gift for songwriting, but hearing his songs performed by someone else only highlighted the strength of the songs. The performances on this album all allow the songs themselves to really shine. It's not Elliott, but I would recommend this album for anyone who wants to revisit the songs from a new perspective.
Brilliant, Bittersweet.......2006-03-14
Well, another Elliott tribute. He deserved all these and many more. People doing songs made famous by someone else usually don't amount to much but occasionally (Peter, Paul, and Mary covering Blowin In The Wind for example) they do the songs justice. The Decemberists' cover of Clementine to open the CD was incredible. The rest of the songs were equally strong (King's Crossing, Between the Bars). The only thing I didn't really enjoy was the wailing on the end of Speed Trials, but that's, as I said, the only thing I didn't like. I would've given the album more than 5 stars if I'd had the opportunity. Beautiful work.

Customer Reviews:
Pure Live Guster.......2007-07-01
This live album w/ DVD showcases the Gusters and playing live shows and sounding amazing. The DVD contains very fun special features from a band that is very open and transparent for its fans.
It's great!.......2006-12-04
I love everything about this! Ryan and Adam can really sing and thundergod is at his best! From "Fa Fa" to "Jesus on the Radio' this is the best.
Addictive Listening.......2006-07-13
This cd absolutely owns........my friend turned me on to it not so long ago, and if my ipod could rank the most played albums this would be #1 without question. The recording is so clear, and the performance is next to amazing, I am so lucky to be seeing these guys twice this year (Philly, San Diego). Do yourself a big favor and get this asap, as the usual saying goes...."you will not be disappointed" TRUST ME!!!!
This one is a must-have for any Guster fan, or even casual listener.......2006-02-14
I got turned on to Guster after I bought "Keep It Together" several years ago, and subsequently bought "Lost and Gone Forever." I listened to "Soulfly" and "Parachutes" but they were a little too run of the mill acoustic for me. Anyway, I got this one because It had a great selection of songs from "KIT" and "LaGF" plus the DVD. The DVD was a great bonus because I have seen them live a couple times and they put on a great show.
So I take the package home and pop in the DVD and it is fantastic. The entire thing was recorded hi-resolution digital cameras with great editing. All of the other concert DVDs I have were FILMED and the quality of the picture really suffers because of it, but this one is immaculate. Their shows are filled with great color contrasts and it comes through beautifully on this DVD. The other thing is that the bonus features include a little 30 minute documentary on a week with Guster that is actually both interesting and funny. I also really liked how both the CD and DVD audio was mixed for production--you can tell they really spent some cash to do this thing right.
Seriously, this is a great buy--come on, you get both a full-length CD and DVD for around $15!!!
Beautiful Live Material.......2006-02-05
Guster has always been one of those bands that when I mention them, people seem to give me a puzzled look, because they have never heard of them. This is really too bad, because they are one of the best live shows I have ever seen. This CD/DVD showcases their energy, talent, and interaction with their fans (a rabid bunch, I might add). The CD was well mixed and sounds amazing on a nice sound system, and the DVD is well shot and mixes in some backstage footage that is valuable to any Guster fan. I have now seen Guster 3 times and this DVD feels just like those shows, so it has accomplished its mission. Anyone who is already in love with Guster and doesn't own this, GET IT. Anyone who is just getting into Guster and wants to hear more, GET IT!

Customer Reviews:
Great CD!.......2007-05-21
I recently purchased Live From Portland, and have found it to be very worthwhile. The music is catchy and addictive, the message is bold and evangelical, and the quality of the recording is stunning. One of my favorite aspects of Live from Portland, is the preaching Kutless does. It's warming to the heart and soul to hear these guys confess and share their love for Christ. Another strong point of the CD is it's variety. All of Kutless's albums are sampled very nicely on this CD-DVD set.
BOTTOM LINE
If you are a fan of Kutless or Christian Rock you will enjoy this CD very much.
This CD rocks!.......2007-05-18
Having grown up on serious classic rock I'm pretty picky about contemporary christian rock but this CD is outstanding. Love all the versions of the songs. Have listened to it countless times. Turn up the volume and enjoy!
Great DVD/CD.......2007-05-02
Great product not only do you get the dvd of the concert but you get a cd of the audio from the concert you also get behind the scenes and their latest music video and to russel who was going on about it being staged cause they interacted with the audience
Have you ever been to a concert?
Not as good as the albums........2007-04-09
I like Dvd and Cd. He Needs to stop Screaming he needs to be focusing on better songs and be tune. Songs Strong Tower Is too bassy at the beginning the album version is better he sounded like he had a common cold like he had frogs in his voice. Sea of Faces was not as beatiful as the album SEA OF FACES. The Live from Portland should not have been recorded for The DVD. I would want the Los Angles Tour Sounds better. The Songs are good and beats are increadible but he needs to sing better than that. Hurray For The albums
truly amazing.......2007-03-25
For those of you who have been following my (not-so) recent reviews, you may have seen that it takes me a LONG time to write my reviews (i.e. my Hybrid Theory review- got it the day it came out, took me over three years to get around to writing the review). This one, however, took me by surprise. I first got to listening to Kutless when I heard their song Strong Tower on WOW 2006 (I think that's where I heard it...); I picked up their Hearts of the Innocent CD about a week ago and absolutely loved it. Going back to the same store, I bought Live from Portland... actually, yesterday. I watched the DVD performance earlier today and... wow. I always knew Kutless was an absolutely amazing Christian band, but to see them live... it just takes my breath away.
For those of you who didn't know, Kutless hails from Portland, which is why they decided to make their live CD and DVD here. This was one of their stops on their Hearts of the Innocent tour, taken from the title track of their latest non-live CD. The concert kicks off with Hearts of the Innocent, then launches right into Treason and Troubled Heart. Shut Me Out comes next, then their two most popular singles, Sea of Faces and Strong Tower. Next, Kutless goes worship with Better Is One Day, transitions to love ballad-mode on Run, then rocks our faces off with the Creed-sounding Tonight. Let You In is next, followed by my personal favorite Kutless song, Somewhere in the Sky (which for some reason reminds me of Disturbed's stuff...), then Not What You See. Jon Micah Sumrall and the other Kutless guys then exit the stage, but come back on when the crowd screams for more. Kutless then performs two more songs, Beyond the Surface and Your Touch, at which point the concert actually ends.
For a long time, I thought Linkin Park's Live in Texas CD was the best live album out there. Live from Portland has proved me wrong. Rock on, all you Kutless fans out there- rock on- or as Sumrall puts it, "throw your fist up!!!"

Customer Reviews:
Funktastic.......2007-06-11
This album is definitely heavy on the funk. Highlights include: Birds of a Feather, Roggae, Moma Dance, Limb by Limb, and of course, Tweezer (with a little California Love thrown in!) A delicious Bathtub Gin on disc 3 is long enough for you to go to the bathroom, grab a snack and still have plenty of groove time.
Good Show, but overpriced.......2006-08-02
The good. This show is the chill Phish that you would typically hear in the 97-99 era shows. Kinda funky, some good layering of loops, and songs that work well together.
The bad. Since the show is not in stock many places, vendors with copies have more than doubled the price. The disc is not out of print, so just be patient. Also, any audience recordings of the show can be downloaded for FREE. The show is worth it's retail price, but this 40$+ business is absurd. Def. not that good.
GREAT ALBUM, TOTAL RIPOFF ON PRICE.......2005-08-10
The album was great however. I have a big F- YOU!!! TO anyone and everyone selling this album at over the retail price. Right now the lowest price is 62 g*dd*mn dollars! If i ever see this album in a store at this price i will literally slap the person selling it!
Underrated.......2005-07-05
This show has a loose feel from the beginning. The songs seem to flow in and out of eachother, and they often give that phish-like feel of making you forget what song their playing. The jams are more than your typical creative extensions of studio songs. I have not listened to very many phish shows that I can say all four were each on the very top of their game, but that can definately be said of this show. To say that this show is sloppy is to say that true phish is sloppy.
Very well-played show.......2005-04-01
Highly recommended show for any Phish fan. I know it sounds pretentious, but I have to agree that this is not a show for beginners. This is the type of show that hardcore Phish fans salivate over. Well-played songs, great heavy and dense jams that go way beyond what Phish was doing early on. I hate when certain Phans think that only 94-97 is worth hearing. I highly disagree. I think this show perfectly defines what 1998 Phish was. The Limb X Limb here is spectacular and highly underrated. Trey's guitar work on this outing is nothing short of awe-inspiring. The whole Disc 2 is awesome. This CD-set is worth it for that and the bonus "Bathtub Gin" on Disc 3, which is funkalicious to the max.

Big Bang Fan.......2007-03-21
I've been a fan of Asian drumming for awhile. This is very enjoyable to listen to and professionally put together. I really liked the strings on track number 7.
Pleasing to the ear.......2007-01-22
The music is stirring & pleasing to the ear. I love it.
Best Taiko recording I've heard!.......2004-10-01
Even though Portland taiko is not as big as some other taiko groups in the US or Japan, this is one quality recording! Better sound quality than most of the recordings by taiko masters like Kodo! Taiko are instruments that produce a great amount of sound with very rich overtones and this makes it very hard to record. Portland Taiko recorded this one in a theater big enough for that amount of sound with a great sound engineer who obviously knew what he was up against. From the big drums, the big Okedo and Odaiko, to the little dums and percussion instruments, this recording is crystal clear and has great depth. The recording of the violin and bamboo flute is also very nice and well balaced with the taiko.
This is my favorite CD for testing out home theater systems!

Album Description
A Portland Selection: Contra Dance Music in the Pacific Northwest, contains beautiful, lively jigs and reels played on fiddle, mandolin, 4-string banjo, and piano. This recording is a companion to the popular tune book, The Portland Collection, and includes a cross section of the different styles and sources of contra dance music encompassed in the book. The cd contains a mix of both traditional and recently composed tunes as well as popular standards and tunes that have not been recorded before. Most of the music on the recording is arranged in dance-type medleys and played at dance speed. However, some of the tracks are played slowly with broader variation and may suggest ways of approaching the music outside a contra dance setting. All of the tunes on the recording can be found in The Portland Collection.
Customer Reviews:
Contra music at its best.......2007-03-04
I have had the pleasure of dancing with these musicians on many occasions. This CD is one of my favorites because it not only recalls those times, but allows me to listen to these fine musicians in my own home. George Penk may be one of the best fiddlers now playing, while Sue Songer and Clyde Curley keep the music rich and the beat steady. You won't hear a lot of flash or crash, but you will hear good tunes played to perfection.
I'm told that the Portland Collection tune book, from which these tunes are taken, is a standard across the US. This CD deserves similar appreciation.

Album Description
A treasure of Jewish lullabies sung in their original Yiddish, Hebrew and Ladino make up this memorable collection. Tanja Solnik's exquisitely delicate interpretations are perfectly accompanied by piano, guitar, and balalaika. This album was honored as a Notable Children's Recording by The American Library Association.
Customer Reviews:
Delightful, soothing, inspiring.......2003-01-25
This collection of lullabies from the Jewish tradition defies the usual standards and soars above your expectations; every song is a delight to hear. The bright instrumentals employed are minimal and exciting; the vocals, pure and gorgeous. Do not be fooled by the word "lullabies" - I highly recommend this album for adult and baby alike.
Timeless, lovely, and sleep-inducing!.......2000-04-14
I found this album soon after my daughter was born. I was looking for a good recording of Rozhinkes Mit Mandlen, and listened to clips from several different cd's. As soon as I heard this rendition, I knew I could stop looking. These are beautifully unaffected presentations of classic songs. They neither dress up nor dumb down the material. Rather, the melodies and warm, smooth voice take center stage. Adults can take pleasure in this cd even after repeated plays, and my baby was soothed every time!

Fantastic album!!.......2006-01-07
I just saw Allard perform solo at a small venue in Seattle one night after the band performed a sold-out show. I dug the songs and went out and got their debut CD right away. The band reminds me of Oasis - the tunes are as catchy if not more and the lyrics are way better i.e. no "champagne supernova in the sky"!! I have no doubt that The Village Green will make it big and be heard on the airwaves very soon.

Buy another copy of "Live 1981-86".......2005-01-31
JJ's best band was the N&D1 band, and his live album 1981-86 proves it. This album brings us a good version of "Is she really going", but the rest is nothing but a pale shaddow of the original from the 80's. I like JJ music enough to be hoenst and tell, that his N&D2 is not comparable to the original, and so that live album, that was made by N&D2 band. Dissapointment would describe very well my feelings.
Previously available only through Joe's website..........2004-12-04
This is a live CD that was previously available only through Joe's website. It's a seven piece band with two percussionists and two strings (violin & cello) so there is a heavy emphasis on those instruments and less of the rockin' Joe Jackson you might expect. The songs have been rearranged to fit the sound of these instruments as well. It's not a greatest hits but it does have a few along with a nice selection of album cuts. Of the 14 tracks my personal favorites are "Another World" (with some great bass playing by the immortal Graham Maby), "Is She Really Going Out With Him", "Real Men" and a decent version of "Slow Song" but the best of all is his very nice update of "Hometown" from the Big World album. Overall a pretty good album but it's strictly for hardcore Jackson fans.
Not his best outing, but OK for the Joe Jackson completist.......2004-04-23
Anybody who saw Joe Jackson live on his 25th Anniversary/Volume 4 tour realizes how vital and significant his live performances are. This album, previously available on his web site, is merely OK. It is a marginal recording, and the music lacks the incredible punch and power of the original Joe Jackson Band (which he toured with last year). Since there are better live JJ recordings out there, give this one a pass and buy a genuinely GREAT CD: JJ Live 1980/86. Now THAT is a live album!
An Excellent Live CD from his website.......2004-02-03
As Vanarndt from allentown, nj states, this is the commercial in-store release of a terrific document that has been previously available through his website. If you have it already, do not be mislead into thinking this is new. However, Jackson is preparing other live and studio releases for this year to celebrate his 25 years being ignored by the pop mind-set. Pity, because he is far more compelling and convincing a writer than Elvis Costello, a 100% more genuine and a thousand times less full of himself than the Liverpudlian windbag.
There is an autheticity to Joe that is far removed from the smug calculated preciousness of MacManus. Joe never lost his punk vitriol, no matter how skilfully he embraced it in music. And he never had the delusional self absorption to dismiss and deride Ray Charles's contributions.
There is always an edge to Jackson, even in in the sentimental "Home Town", which strikes a resonating chord with anyone who sees something essentially lost in their place of remembered beauty. This set sparkles all the way through, and though taken from different concerts in different cities, it is a seamless and intimate presentation of some of his most terrific songs. There is everything to like about this set, so, if you hadn't picked it up before, do yourself a favour and do so now.
Great CD, but NOT a 25th Anniversary Live CD!.......2004-01-31
First off, this is a great CD, and if you don't have it...it's worth getting. What's irritating is that it's being sold as a "25th Anniversary Live" CD which would imply a live CD recorded during the tour last Fall. It's not. It's a repackage of the same CD Joe made available through his website a few years ago. Same CD, different label and new cover art.

Album Description
In a world straight jacketed by scripted passion and corporate identity - sometimes you just want to put push it all away and commit Treason. Treason claims its five members from the spans of North America including Toronto, Canada, Seattle, Washington and San Jose California. Their debut Waterstreet offering, Spinning, has been embraced by the worldwide press as delivering the rock voice of the millennium - Italy's Metal Shock magazine, pumping, gut wrenching guitars - USA's Electric Basement, keyboards nothing short of a mindblower, Portland Music Network, and a rhythm section as precise as a Swiss watch - Metal Shock magazine. Treason lays claim to the heart and the imagination of its fans. In the words of Sonic Foundry e-zine, Treason has serious talent, serious potential, or more succinctly as Germany's Rock Reunion says Long Live Treason!
Treason's previous self titled album, which featured Alan White and Billy Sherwood of Yes, caught the attention of Waterstreet, a new media company in search of serious talent. Waterstreet got Treason into the studio immediately, arranging for the bands chief songwriter/keyboardist Ted Stockwell to produce, Zack Reinig (Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains) to engineer and celebrated producer/mix man Ron Saint Germain (Creed, Soundgarden, 311, Living Color, Tool, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc) to mix. It was incredible to have this wealth of experience, imagination and enthusiasm at our disposal. The situation couldn't have been better, said Stockwell. Adds Stern Making Spinning was an amazing experience. You can hear it in the songs; you can feel it in this album. It always gives me shivers when I hear it.

Incredible.......2003-01-31
This album should dominate world media! It is brilliant and must be heard! Calling it FANTASTIC does not do Spinning justice.
A must have!
Very Impressive CD.......2001-02-12
I finally got a copy of Treason's "Spinning" CD... It is great! ...and if that isn't enough, the songs and the music are good enough that even if Ann Wilson(Heart) wasn't on the CD, I would have bought it anyway...
Treason ROCKS!.......2001-02-08
What a great album. I heard Silent Prayer at MP3.com, and had to get the rest of the album. It was even better than I expected ... I only wish more of my music collection made as much of an impact on me.
Right from the start, Silent Prayer lets you know that this band means business. Last Stand is a song that I HAVE TO SEE LIVE. However my absolute favourite on Spinning is the song Spinning ... it blew me away.
The band is very tight, moody and energetic. I know that sounds weird, but that's the best thing about Treason - there is so much variety in the music and instruments ... and they pull it off. And the vocals are killer ... as are the weird guitar and key sounds.
Gimme more !
Treason ROCKS !
Worth your While..........2001-02-05
The first thing that strikes you about the CD's sound is the clean, crisp production. There's no muddiness here. The sonics are balanced, with no exaggerated highs, mids, or lows. Both the producer and the mastering engineer definitely knew what they were doing!
The 12 songs are varied in style. The band is extremely tight and polished. The singer has a great rock voice. It would be unfair to draw comparisons to a known band. The sound is fresh and current, yet vaguely familiar. The band is not afraid of harmony and melody, and can definitely carry a tune.
Each of the songs creates its own atmosphere. All are unique in their own way. My personal favorites of the 11 tracks on the CD are "Cold Tears" and "Lethal". I kept going back to relisten to these.
