Though the beautiful voice of Sarah Brightman is still a wonder, the songs are repetitive of all her earlier works. I suggest getting Time To Say Goodbye and her Classics albums. Save your money on this latest one.

i have loved sarah brightman for a long time now and I just love this album. True..there isn't anything new on it, but a new mix is nice. I do hope she is working on something different at this time, but until then its DIVA!!!!

This album is really perfect for people who are just being introduced to Sarah Brightman. However, it really isn't for fans who have been with Sarah since the 1990s. All of the pieces are on her previous CDs, and, if you're a loyal fan, you probably already have them. Also, some really good hits are left out. "Harem" should have been put in place, instead of "What You Never Know". It seems as though Ms. Brightman hasn't put her "best" on this album". There also isn't a lot of Sarah from her "early years", such as her albums DIVE and FLY. There's a little bit of Phantom of the Opera, and then there are a lot of pieces from the album Time to Say Goodbye and Eden. A few from La Luna and a few from Harem. I am a LOYAL Sarah Brightman fan, but Sarah didn't out-do herself on this album. It almost seemed as though she was trying to make this a very CLASSICAL collection. I mean, she had some great pop tunes earlier on in her career. It's still a great collection, but I just wish that there was a little bit more! It's perfect for any new fan just coming in to the world of Sarah Brightman!

Bobby Darin was one of the most personally complex and unpredictable artists of the rock era. Indeed, it's hard to find another major artist who reinvented himself with the deceptive ease and overwhelming success chronicled on this 20-track highlight disc. After scoring three lively and considerable Top 10 successes in the space of a year in the late 1950s ("Splish Splash," "Queen of the Hop," "Dream Lover"), Darin traded in his teen idol sweater 'n' slacks for a tux and tie (evidence suggests he considered rock a passing fad!) and went gunning for Sinatra and the Rat Pack. The immediate results were the Grammy-winning No. 1 legend "Mack the Knife" (adapted from Kurt Weill's "Moritat" in The Threepenny Opera) and the enduring, French-inspired Top 10 hit "Beyond the Sea." If Darin spent the early '60s alternately goosing standards from the American songbook ("Clementine," "Bill Bailey," "Lazy River," "You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby," etc.) and mending a few rock-pop fences ("Multiplication," "Things"), he still had another surprise in store. His Top 10 take on Tim Hardin's dolorous "If I Were a Carpenter" cast him all too convincingly as conscientious '60s folkie. Other highlights here include his irresistible, swinging take on the lyrically bleak "Artificial Flowers" and his successful, self-penned nods to the '60s Nashville sound, "You're the Reason I'm Living" and "18 Yellow Roses." I don't understand the 5 star reviews. Of the 20 tracks on this CD (a good collection), only 5 were the stereo recordings; the remaining 15 were recorded in mono only!!! Bobby Darin's signature tracks of Splish Splash, Mack the Knife, and Beyond the Sea are all in mono format. Horrible, especially considering that the word "Stereo" is plastered across the cover of his "That's All" album where Mack the Knife and Beyond the Sea were recorded.

I suppose if you have one speaker, it would not make a difference, but PLEASE. I feel so very cheated.

Where would the '80s have been without the Pet Shop Boys? Discography makes a compelling case for the notion of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe as pioneers, if not geniuses. Mixing the cold feel of Euro-techno beats with the Boys' quest for something warm between the sheets, "What Have I Done to Deserve This" and "Suburbia" sound almost soulful. Although they seemed to be suffering from a terminal case of boredom, they managed to alchemize their ennui into touching sentimentality in "Love Comes Quickly," "Rent," and, especially, the AIDS-oriented "Being Boring." Discography begins with the Pet Shop Boys' beginning, "West End Girls," traveling past "Domino Dancing" and including their covers "Always on My Mind," and the medley "Where the Streets Have No Name (I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You.)" --Steve Gdula

You cannot hate these guys. Sure they get a little silly with the lyrics at times but what they do well is make catchy pop/dance music and they don't stray. At no point in history of the band has this simple concept been forgotten. They do what they do best and that's enough for this listener.

A song like 'Being Boring' is just plain amazing. But there's lots and lots more. If you love anything about 80s pop music then you will not be wasting one penny on this stellar collection. It's the first 18 singles the band released. Even today I'm in awe of the consistency of this band.

I have to say that this is my second compact disc because the other one got scratched up. I decided since I love their music to buy another one because the one hit that I love the most is Suburbia. I love listening to it over and over again. I love the other hits like West End Boys and What have I done to deserve this? and others on this collection. I love the sound and keep thinking about London, England and being on the underground or the tube. It's quite a great collection!

Are you the kind of person who would spend $3.50 for the perfect oyster at a raw bar? How about $7.00 for a perfectly drawn pint of ale in a midtown New York bar? Then dropping $35.00 for a t-shirt because it was made in the US or $18.00 for that small jar of cashews from the minibar because you 'just had to have something to munch on" before going to dinner? If you answered yes to any of the above, you would have no problem dropping the full price (Amazon, $14.98) to have a red-book CD copy (no inferior compressed downloads, thank you) of the perfect pop song, "What have I done to Deserve this?" from Pet Shop Boys. One of the most beautifully sung and arranged female pop vocals ever recorded is to be found on this one song. It is well known that Dusty Springfield demanded several run-throughs and takes to make this cut. She is said to have sweated every single note to perfection because she felt so strongly about her performance. Believe me, it shows. Perfection. You also get the unrivalled, unmatched 80's pop and dance-beat mastery with all the other selections that only the "Boys" were able to create. And all for only $14.98.

"The Singles Collection" is a great survey of the Kinks' singles on Pye Records, including initial Beatles facsimiles (including awkward "woo!" falsetto), successful forays into hard rock ("You Really Got Me" has been called the first heavy metal song) and psychedelia ("See My Friends" showcases this little-known aspect of the band), and finally the quirky social commentary that they're probably best known for today ("Well Respected Man," "Dead End Street," and numerous other gems).

This compilation covers the albums from the debut "Kinks" through "Lola versus Powerman and the Moneygoround Part One," but a substantial portion of these tracks were standalone singles. That means that this collection hardly tells the whole story-- in fact, important albums like "The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society" and "Arthur or The Decline and Fall of the British Empire" are barely represented at all. But it also makes this disc a valuable resource for excellent non-album tracks like "Set Me Free" and "Autumn Almanac" that can be hard to find elsewhere with such crisp sound quality.

I recommend this compilation to Kinks newbies and hardcore fans alike, because it's both a competent primer on the band's first decade as well as a great source for some hard-to-find music. Just be sure you also pick up the albums, at least from "Face to Face" onward, to get the full picture of this indispensable band.

George Starostin could not give the Kinks a perfect 5 on his classic rock review site (a great site!: starling.rinet.ru/music) because the Kinks lacked a "perfect" album, where every song was incredible, not just good. Arthur came close for him, but not quite. However, I believe this is the "perfect" Kinks album, even though I prefer their released albums. This is not a greatest hits compilation, just a singles compilation, the equivalent to the Beatles' Past Masters. This album has all of their singles from '64 - '71 I believe, and every song is great! The Ultimate collection offers more, but if you're new to the Kinks, start with this colection that captures their golden years. If you love this, move to the albums. You should not be disappointed with this collection. Some beautiful stuff.

This compilation covers the period 1964 to 1971 - the stuff that really matters. The same label has released a double CD compilation tit1led Ultimate collection, which covers their later music as well. If you want their later hits, including Come dancing, that is the collection you should go for.

This contains all the classic sixties songs including You really got me, All day and all of the night, Tired of waiting for you, Dedicated follower of fashion, Well respected man, Sunny afternoon, Waterloo sunset, Autumn almanac, Days, Lola and Apeman. It also includes Dave's two solo UK hits - Death of a clown and Susannah's still alive.

The set is presented in chronological order beginning with their cover of Long tall Sally, a song that demonstrates their musical roots in R+B. They didn't stick to R+B for very long, becoming more of a mainstream pop group and continually changing their style thereafter. Nevertheless, their songs were always distinctive because of Ray's talent for making ordinary situations into extraordinary songs. My favorite Kinks song is Waterloo sunset, a huge UK hit but not an American hit. It is about romance at a railway station that I am familiar with, though I cannot possibly imagine what inspired Ray to write that song, but he was a genius.

The best tribute to the quality of their songs lies in the diversity of the covers that have been recorded by singers in several genres of music. Kirsty MacColl (Days), the Stranglers (All day and all of the night), Petula Clark (Days - and a French version of Well respected man), Cathy Dennis (Waterloo sunset, Sunny afternoon), Green day (Tired of waiting for you), Jimmy Buffett (Sunny afternoon), Van Halen (You really got me) and Barb Jungr (Waterloo sunset) are among those who have covered Kinks songs.

Despite the brilliance of some of the covers, here you get the chance to hear the original versions. If you just want a single CD of their sixties music, this one is as good as any you will find.

Motown did so many things well in the '60s and early '70s that this overview of the label's smashes (and some lesser-known classics) practically demands four CDs. It gets them, too, filling them with single mixes of more than 100 tracks. That the running order begins with Barrett Strong's statement of purpose "Money (That's What I Want)" and ends with Marvin Gaye's statement of concern "Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)" says a lot about how far the company moved in its golden decade--but no more so than what the same two cuts' differences in sound get across. The company was able to blend the smooth and the harsh in ways that few other pop entities have ever mastered, thereby getting over not only to the feet and the wallet, but to the heart. --Rickey Wright

HITSVILLE USA is a box set that's clearly marked as a SINGLES COLLECTION-- that means these 104 tracks are in the original monaural sound. If you're looking for stereo mixes, this isn't the collection for you. That issue aside, the only real criticism of the album is one of programming-- songs tend to be clustered by artist or group. Perhaps a more thorough shuffle was in order.

Each CD jewel case is fronted with a repro of a Gordy Co. label, including one of the very first MOTOWNs, which was pale pink in color. The accompanying 68-page long box book is quite comprehensive. Recording dates for all songs and chart positions are given. There's lots of great photos; artists and groups are given a few pages of bio each. This HITSVILLE USA four-CD box set is fairly extensive, and about all you'd ever need in a compilation of MOTOWN 45s.

The Songs on this are FANTASTIC! I Love Mono Recording. Everyone says that if it's stereo, it "sounds better". I think NOT! It Sounds alright. But, Hey, if you want longer mono versions of the music, without the unnecessary extensions, buy this. For example, Nowhere To Run on this box set-2:58.

Also, With Dancing In The Street, my favorite part is on this, when Martha says "Yeah", at the end, on Motown Box, 4 seconds are 'remastered'. (frown)Therefore, it is'nt there. Quicksand, By Martha & the Vandellas, Bye Bye Baby, By Mary Wells, Playboy, by the Marvelettes, When The Lovelight starts shining through His eyes, by the Supremes, Hitch Hike, By Marvin Gaye, and others, you know what I mean? So, overall, this is the better box to get.

There are so many good songs here, you can't go wrong. Don't let the whole 'mono' thing scare you away, either. With a decent stereo, these sound just fine. Just turn up the bass a little and crank it loud. I like about 80% of the songs in this collection, and for the price you can't go wrong; Nice booklet w/ lots of cool pictures included. With this collection, you'd only need to buy a handful of other discs to complete your Motown collection...

What is Motown all about? The answer lies within the music of this rather impressive line-up of songs on "Hitsville USA: The Motown Singles Collection 1959-1971." It's the story of how a gifted songwriter, Berry Gordy, Jr., makes his way on up the ladder of success spearheading one of if not the most successful
of all R&B-based record companies during the golden age of American popular music. Detroit, Michigan, known as the Motor City, gained yet another nickname: Hitsville USA. Everyone referred to it as Motown. In this collection, all of the well-known groups (The Supremes, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Miracles, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Jr. Walker & the All-Stars, The Jackson 5) are represented as well as the known solo artists (Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Mary Wells, Brenda Holloway). Included also are some wonderful one or two-shot wonders (Shorty Long, Brenda Holloway, Eddie Holland [of Motown's hit-making songwriting trio H-D-H], The Velvelettes, The Elgins, The Monitors, The Contours) and more. What's interesting about this set is that there are many of the well-known songs along with some songs that you probably just don't hear anymore or weren't that well-known. So you get your fair share of both like the Supremes' well-known "Baby Love" and Shorty Long's rare but wonderful "Function at the Junction." The downside of this set is nothing too alarming. Not all the artists' hit songs, big and small, are included and I think that's done so that other little-known-but-definitely-worth-discovering are given a chance at spin time, too; even some from the top artists, too. Think about it: if every single Motown record that made the charts was included, this collection would just balloon up, and there'd be no telling how far. So this is a very nice general overview of those first 12 and golden years of Motown. That's what this is all about: the general overview. Granted, if you want to investiagte further about a certain artist's music, there are numerous collections out there devoted just to them like the single "Ultimate Collection" CDs, or box collections of the artist. But, back to this one. Included within is a very nice 68-page booklet containing essays and phots of ALL the artists, plus musician credits, the track-by-track listing of the whole set, including original release date, label, and chart position.
In the middle of the book the different 45s are pictured all together on a two-page spread which was neat, and on the cover are the picture sleeves. It was an unusual move to put no artists and only songs on the back of the individual discs. The same goes for the back of the box. The paper inserts of the CD cases are record labels that have just the label name: Gordy, Soul, Motown, Tamla. Still, out of all the Motown best of various artists collections, this is the big one! It's great party music and dance music. People young and old will love this. The sound on here is terrific and powerful, but, yes, it is in mono. If you look in the back of the booklet, there is noted that the original single masters were used (the 45 RPM versions), so what does that tell you? Nevertheless, the sound is strong for 1992 remastering. Together, this set is living proof that Motown wasn't just a hit-making machine of a record-company, it was a feeling!

    Is there a finer green-blooded punk band in all of Boston than the Dropkick Murphys? The Singles Collection 1996-1997 answers the question with a rousing "Oy!". Like all good punk outfits, the Dropkick Murphys recorded several 7-inch records and toured diligently; most DM fans will have most of these tracks, but will probably want crunchy, angry anthems such as "Fightstarter Karaoke" and "Regular Guy" on compact disc. In addition to this material are 10 live numbers from the Do or Die record release show. The sonic document perfectly captures the Murphys' harsh sizzle and, combined with the rest of the disc, distracts from the fact that The Singles Collection contains three--count 'em, three--Clash covers!     This CD has some favorite tracks you've heard before, and some tracks that only appeared on singles. The versions of songs from Do or Die aren't as good as the originals from Do or Die, but some of the new songs (Front Seat, Guns of Brixton) are great additions to any fan's catalog. Also, the live songs are pretty decent. Pick this album up only if you have their other CDs.

    I was REALLY psyched when I heard "Workers Song". I had never heard Dropkick Murphys before, but I like punk, and especially meaningful punk, a la Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Sex Pistols, Clash, Flipper, DOA, and others. I should have listened to the reviews that mentioned it was all three chords and lots of noise.

    I don't think the Dropkick Murphys are the problem - they seem to be a GREAT group. I readily identify with the "Irish Pride" thing, even though I'm only a little Irish (probably about 1/8 or so), because of the persecution they've suffered at the hands of the English (one of my favorite songs of all time is John & Yoko's "Luck of the Irish"). Irish suffrage and Irish pride are not empty phrases to me, and for that reason alone, I like the music and the points that DM raises in some of its songs.

    Maybe I should have just settled for the CD with the song I liked and gone from there. I listened to a couple of other songs on "Blackout" and I will be buying that CD. So, while I can't give the above CD more than 2 stars, I still give the Dropkick Murphys group 5 stars.

    Many of the items on this album have been released before in well known collections (Hot Rocks, More Hot Rocks: Big Hits & Fazed Cookies, etc.). However, this provides a nice survey of what the subtitle refers to as "The London Years."

    Especially welcome is Disc One. Here are a number of early works that draw upon the blues tradition out of which the Stones came. Their covers are as interesting, in some senses, as their own music. Chuck Berry's "Come on" illustrates. A nice rollicking version. Some of Willie Dixon's compositions are covered (e.g., "I Want to Be Loved," "I Just Want to Make Love to You," and "Little Red Rooster" [a cool version]). One of Buddy Holly's hits, "Not Fade Away," comes off well. Bobby Womack's "It's All over Now" is solidly sung (indeed, in a later Rolling Stones' tour, I saw Bobby Womack sing this as part of the opening for the concert). Stevie Wonder's "I Don't Know Why" is also included. The other songs on Disc One are primarily works by Jagger-Richards themselves. Toward the end of this are quintessential Rolling Stones works of the mid-1960s, "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" and "Get off of My Cloud."

    The second disc covers the years from "19th Nervous Breakdown" through the psychedelic album, "Their Satanic Majesties Request." Some rather little known works appear, but most are well known. Because of that, this covers much the same territory as "Hot Rocks" and is less interesting than the first CD. The final disc has a lot of the "greatest hits" of the late 1960s and early 1970s (think "Street Fighting Man," "Honky Tonk Women," "Brown Sugar," and "Sympathy for the Devil"). There are also some mildly entertaining trifles ("Jiving Sister Fanny" and "Memo from Turner").

    The most interesting of the CDs, then, is the first, since it shows off nicely some of the foundational works upon which the Rolling Stones' oeuvre is based.

    This box set was release in the late 80s during the peak of the box sets revival. The problem with the collection here is that it included all of the 45 records on 3 CDs. This may seem like a good ideal, and I will be the first to admit it, I thought it was great until I got it home and started listening to it. The problem is that not only does it included all of the hits, from "Satification" to "Get off my Cloud" to "Sympathy For The Devil", it includes also the B-side of the 45s, which include such songs as "Little Red Rooster", "Jiving Sister Fanny" and "Who's Driving Your Plane?". The issue is not the good stuff, it the filler that kills it. The Stones have way to many great songs, both before and after "Exile on Main Street" then to waste time listening to almost half the songs on this album. If you love the stones in the London Years, trade this in for Hot Rocks.

    This album is simply great fun from beginning to end. Made up of all the material on the Stones' singles, A and B sides, from the London years, it is a grand tour of their early years and their evolution as one of the top rock and roll bands of all time. The mix is good enough on the CD that the mono still sounds fine to me on a stereo system, so I have no complaints there. The sound is raw and energetic, much the way I expect their early concerts sounded. If you are a Stones fan, this is an essential addition to your music collection. So good that when the CD ends, you want to give it another listen.

    Many, like me, read these reviews as a pastime. There are a few reviewers who must be more audiophilic than simply lovers of the Stones, or rock, or any particular group. In this particular case, since it is such a comprehensive and large box set--if you remember these were all singles, that's a LOT of vinyl replaced by 3 little discs--I am not going to be so particular.

    This is the first boxed set or CD of any kind my goil friend, and now wife, risked buying finicky me: she felt she could not go wrong! And she was 100% correct. Mono, stereo, SACD, AIFF, AAC, whatEVAH--If you were jumping up and down to these songs over some tiny transistor AM radio in the sixties, and singing these songs in the bathroom, and they came out of your dashboard on Saturday night when you had your date parked out in the woods, BUY THIS! It sounds great, absolutely amazing, song after song, compared to what we had then, and the hits keep right on coming. Try to decide which songs Mick was messed up on. Figure out which ones were influenced by some other band from that era when they came out. Dig how amazing Brain Jones was always!

    I don't think you can pack more coolness into a boxt set, as someone else said. This set of mine is like fifteen years old now, and I put it on iTunes a few months back. It gets played, in part, nearly every day, and I have 60 Gigs of iTunes! How good is that?

    If you happen to be a huge Rolling Stones fan like myself, than I must say that "The London Years: The Singles Collection" will make a fantastic edition to your cd library. This solid mix of classic hits by Mick and the boys and hard to find rarities, it is a truly wortwhile purchase.

    Disc 1 covers 1962 up to 1965, kicking off with their first single, their cover of Chuck Berry's "Come On". What follows is a journey through some of their biggest hits ("(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", "Time Is On My Side", "Get Off My Cloud") and a stunning list of rare tracks (their cover of The Beatles' "I Wanna Be Your Man", "Little Red Rooster", "Off The Hook", and much more).

    Disc 2 is loaded with familliar Stones staples such as "19th Nervous Breakdown", "Pain It, Black", "Mother's Little Helper", "Ruby Tuesday" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash", and includes lesser known tunes like "Stupid Girl", "Sad Day", "Who's Driving Your Plane", "2000 Light Years From Home" and "In Another Land".

    Disc 3 is the only disc I have really any complaints about. I hate how they put the single edit of "You Can't Always Get What You Want", the song is nothing without the choral intro. Plus, while I know this is solely meant to be a singles collection, I think that any Stones compilation covering this period, even if it's mainly just the singles, should include "Gimme Shelter", "Let It Bleed" and "Midnight Rambler".

    Other than that (plus the fact that the cd won't play on my computer), I have virtually no complaints about this fantastic compilation that I recommend to all fans of great rock and roll.

    i been with kim wilde ever since she started, this girl is great, and she is sooooo cute too, :) a collections of hits you cannot put down and also contains the smash hit single "in my life". i think the song "in my life" is a new direction for her. we need more like that, it's a postive message. yayyy, in my life, everything is feeling good, in my life, feeling like you know it should.

    Kim Wilde was definitely one of the best artists of the 80's and 90's. Most of the music today is just unbearable or annoying, which is why I only listen to CDs in my car, most of which are 80's and early 90's CDs. And this collection of Kim Wilde's songs span from her early career to her late career and in chronological order so you can hear the evolution of her voice as it matures and changes, but each song is amazing to hear. You have to listen to these songs in your car or on a system with some bass as it definitely makes the songs sound even more incredible. This compilation is defeinitely worth getting. I was a fan of her "You Keep Me Hanging On", and always wondered what her other songs were like, and then one day I bought the CD and listened to the entire CD in my car and fell in love with the entire CD, except for 2 songs at the end, but the 15 other songs are all worthy hits.

    Yeah, I said it. This is mainstream pop. It is good.

    This CD really comes to show how much the music industry has deteriorated in the past two decades. Why are talentless camera-hogs like Britney and Jessica constantly getting airplay in lieu of Kim Wilde, I ask? I could think endlessly, for hours, trying to find an answer to this puzzling question, but still probably couldn't. It's an enigma.

    Anyways, I had never actually heard of Wilde until a few years ago - and I discovered her music in two different places. The first was through the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, in which "Kids in America" became a standout favorite of mine, and the second was a cover of "You Keep Me Hangin' On" by the Norwegian band Theatre of Tragedy. I found both songs to be incredibly addictive, so I decided I would try to look for a CD of hers, which brought me here.

    The Singles Collection includes 17 excellent pop tracks (or a combination of punk-pop, dancepop and soft ballads) from the 80s and early 90s. Beginning with the faster-paced anthems like "Kids in America" and "Chequered Love", and ending with the calmer, smoother sounds of "In My Life" and the "If I Can't Have You" cover, this compilation offers an excellent insight into the changes of Kim's character and voice over the years. Meanwhile, we have the energetic dancefloor hits "Never Trust a Stranger" and fan favorite "You Came", as well as downtuned ballads like "Child Come Away" and the overlooked "Cambodia" that make you wonder why Kim never completely broke through to the American mainstream.

    In conclusion, I think any fan of 80s music should track this down. Although Madonna was the prime diva of the decade, Kim Wilde makes a nice entrance into second place. Classic stuff.

    The idiots at the US Post Office gave me a tracking number and said this was delivered, but the 8 dollar per hour fools did not actually deliver it.

    They send me endless email responses telling me they will look into it. They answer my phone calls and tell me the same thing.

    Oh my God...I'm 21 years old, so I wasn't even born when this stuff came out. But I do recognise a lack of talent when I hear it! Kim Carnes has such a raspy, gurgly voice...she sounds like a sandpapered foghorn! This music just makes me laugh my @ss off every time I hear it, so I'm giving it five stars for its unintended comedic value! Lack of talent is hilarious!

    The first record album I ever bought was a Bobby Vee album. I had heard that this young man sounded much like the recently deceased Buddy Holly and I was curious to check it out for myself. One play of the album and I was an avid fan of Bobby's. I even had to admit that, although there were similarities, he was a song stylist in his own right, and I quickly became an addict. His music captured many of the feelings that we all felt as teens during that time. I have never admitted this before, but this is he only recording artist that prompted me to stand at a mirror and lip-sync every song until I felt a kinship to Bobby Vee. Now, decades later, this collection has renewed that kinship and the distant memories of a very special time.

    Anyone familiar with top-40 radio in the 60's knows Bobby Vee and could name several tunes of his that made it into the top 10. During his decade-long run of charting songs, he had a very impressive 38 of those make it into the top 100. So here is no flash-in-the-pan artist. The CD reissue market is loaded with Vee's albums on CD, two-fers and a myriad of compilation CD's, running the gamut from excellent to lets-make-a-buck cheapos-on-the-fly. So why do we care that there is yet another Bobby Vee compilation CD? For several reasons, actually. First, with all the CD's out there, this is the first time EVERY top-100 charting single of Vee's becomes available. While that may not be of interest to casual listeners satified with the familiar stuff, this piece does fill a long-standing void in Vee's recordings on CD. As an aside, of all the distilled-down compilations, the EMI Legends of Rock 'n' Roll single collection is the best of the lot. While not being, or pretending to be, a comprehensive collection of Vee's recordings, this piece does live up to its promise of a "singles" collection, at least as far as those that charted along with their b-sides are concerned. And for good measure, Italian-language versions of a few of his hits are included. The sixteen-page liner notes booklet contains an accounting of Vee's musical history along with a number of photos and record and album illustrations. And while the sound quality of the EMI Legends piece may have the edge, there are no apologies needed here. The majority of the tracks are in stereo, the exceptions being tracks 2,4,6,24 on disc one, 5,6,10-14,16,17,19-23,25,27 on disc 2 and 14,16,27-30 on disc 3. As a greatest hits package, this is the ultimate and well-done in every way.

    The Bobby Vee Singles Collection is supposedly complete. You get some of the frequently heard favorites: Rubber Ball, Everyday, Come Back When You Grow Up, to name a few. Then there are some of my less known personal favorites that I haven't heard in years: My Love Loves Me, Laurie, Baby Face. All in all, a very pleasing collection.

    Amazon and at least one other seller lists 96 tracks. But there are actually only 95 spread out over the three discs: 33, 32, 30. Close examination shows that #76, Sunrise Highway, does not really exist as #11 on the third disc. And it is not on the printed back cover list that comes with the CD, although it is mentioned in the accompanying booklet.

    As a final touch, the last four tracks are some of his hits sung in Italian. Nice to listen closely and make some comparisons, especially if you have at least a little understanding of the language.

    The collection is not what you can call "complete" if you want everything of Bobby's that was released. There are cover songs from different albums that you can't get here. These were most famous by their original artists: Peggy Sue, Little Star, Lollipop, Do You Want To Dance, etc. So you would still have to supplement this set with something else.

    But it's worth the price, regardless.
