About the Artist
It is the balance of life, art and the pursuit of song that defines the music of Five Star Iris. Based in Atlanta, Georgia the members of this pop/rock band pride themselves on their familiar yet unique sound. With an affinity for melody and lyrics that exhibit simple everyday perspective, FSI's songs are sure to keep them moving forward as they navigate through today's ever-changing musical climate.

With all of the members having extensive live touring experience, the band chose a less traditional approach to the new project by writing and recording before hitting the road. They focused all of their efforts on what mattered to them the most - the songs. It was during the actual process of writing and recording these songs that the vision and sound developed into what has become Five Star Iris.

To guide them through the process, FSI enlisted the help of producer Dexter Green. The result is a promising self-titled debut EP featuring six well-crafted songs, including All I Am, a song co-written by Collective Soul's Ed Roland. Day In The Sun beckons to be an anthem of hope that is felt by just one listen while the heartfelt Is There Something I Can Do delivers a unique perspective on the subject of loss and grief, revealing yet another side of the band. Songs of timely social commentary, hope, and thankfulness round out the EP.

"We just wanted to be ourselves and create something that is us", says Alan Schaefer, FSI's frontman and principal songwriter. "All of the artists that have heavily influenced us have a very honest quality about them musically and as people."

Look for Five Star Iris' self titled debut to be released in early fall 2003.

5 out of 5 stars What rock music should be!.......2007-06-28

Everyone owns those CD's that you bought just because you like a couple of songs. You never listen to the whole thing, you just skip through it. This is NOT that CD! This is the CD you'll put on repeat, and the one you'll want your friends to listen to. It's not your boring, already been done kind of rock music. This album will take you on a musical journey of orignality, creativity, and just plain fun...from the infectious thumping beats of "Follow You Down" and "Starry Eyed" all the way to the softer melodies of "Is There Something I Can Do" and "Luckiest Man." If there's one CD you buy this year, this is the one! This is what rock music should be!

5 out of 5 stars Five Star Iris: Must Own.......2007-06-21

After hearing all the bands on the radio that sound exactly the same, Five Star Iris has a sound all their own. A band that sounds great live translates well to a CD that isn't over-produced. You should own this CD if you love fun, exciting rock music.

4 out of 5 stars What a find :).......2007-06-15

I love this album. It's surprisingly good for a newer band, and I'm rockin' out to Starry Eyed as I fight traffic everyday now. Great riffs, hooks and extremely singable. 5 Star Iris is absolutely worth the price of admission, anyway you can get them. I'm just sorry I found out about them after they did the concerts out here in the west (that sound you hear is me banging my head on the wall :)

5 out of 5 stars One of the best 10 records of 2006?.......2007-06-09

Recently I read somewhere on the internet, that this was one of the 10 best records of 2006. Well is that true? ABSOLUTELY.
I've had the opportunity to see this Atlanta based band in concert and they are truly amazing and talented - and this record truly shows that - IN SPADES!
From the power 1-2 punch of openers "Follow You Down" and "Starry Eyed" your hooked immediately. The infectious groove and chorus of "Anyway" (co-written by Ed Roland of Collective Soul by the way) leaves this song stuck in your head! Then there's the power riffing in "Only Imagine" and "World Needs Now" that flat out just friggin' rocks. Just when you think that's not enough, let's not forget about the power of the softer tunes "Is There Something I Can Do" and "Luckiest Man". This record has it all.
One of the best records of 2006? Heck - maybe THE best! Buy this one now - you will NOT be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars The best undiscovered band ever.......2006-02-02

Five Star Iris is one of the best bands that I've ever heard, and major record labels should be fined for not signing them. I have seen them in concert twice and each time they blow me away. Their sound is something that has been lost over the years...they combine a great melody, fantastic skill as musicians, and great vocals with STORYTELLING. It's like U2 but without any of the politics. It's just great, solid, true music straight from the soul. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this CD to you!!! And please spread the word about 5SI to the world, people shouldn't be deprived of such great music!

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely amazing!.......2004-11-23

This EP is, simply put, a slice of melodic heaven. If you don't already have it, trust me, you definately want this CD in your collection.

And if you ever have an opportunity to see Five Star Iris live --GO!! I saw these guys at a local venue and ... WOW! An absolutely amazing show. These guys are passionate about giving their fans a "rock show" that'll leave them wanting more. You'll be hooked on their sound and you'll be addicted to the energy of the crowd. Without a doubt, one experience not to miss!

5 out of 5 stars Alex Winfield is a guitar guru.......2004-10-10

Not since Robert frip(king Crimson/Cheerful Insanity) burst on the scene in 1968 has there been such a buzz about a new guitarist. Alex Winfield is that new guitarist and he continues to shatter the boundaries of what "popular" music is supposed to be. His playing is sweet, audacious, and loud. Alex Winfield is the greatest guitarist of five star iris with dark brown hair.
