I SELDOM GIVE A 5 STAR REVIEW. But this cd is an exception. I love it. Better writing and production than the first cd. Songs like Face the Wicked One and Destroyer amongst others, sound fresh and contain some blistering guitar work. This cd was right before they got real intricate and thats why its simplicity is its charm!!! Love it! One of the defining metal cds of the 80's metal explosion... Too bad it hasnt been given a US release as of yet, but if you see it, your a fool not to buy it!

Vintage American Power Metal.......2006-09-27

1986's Remnants of War was the second album from legendary underground metal band Helstar. Helstar was one of a number of American power metal bands that surfaced in the early to mid eighties that were highly influenced by the NWOBHM movement. Helstar as well as other bands like Omen, Warlord, Liege Lord, and to some extent Crimson Glory, Savatage, and Fifth Angel, built upon the foundation established by Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and the rest of the British metal scene.

Remnants of War continues the sound the band established on their debut album Burning Star. It is vintage power metal, full of blazing guitar riffs, fantasy and occult-themed lyrics (with a heavy emphasis on battles and war this time around), and James Rivera's glass-shattering vocals. I was fortunate enough to catch Helstar live a few years ago. Rivera had the flu or laryngitis and to my amazement still managed to hit those high notes!

Long out of print, the 1999 Century Media reissue of the album features digitally remastered sound and expanded liner notes by James Rivera.

This is a must-have album for classic metal fans. Seek it out, then turn it up!
