      5 out of 5 stars This isn't math rock.......2004-11-24

This isn't math rock unless math rock means "sometimes plays in 3/4 instead of 4/4." I typically associate the math-rock monniker with bands such as Rodan, Slint, Polvo, and hal al Shedad contemporaries like the Purkinje Shift. This style is what kids used to call "emo," but that was before emo meant supplicating adult contemporary played with distortion. Without attempting to typecast the h.a.s., this is just a well-written rock record. You can detect an early Sabbath and Bowie influence, but you'll hear more of a DC punk influence than anything else.

another ridiculously tight album from one of the most intellegent math rock bands out there. a must have.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful Math Rock.......2001-08-27

With this and their debut s/t album, Hal Al prove themselves to be on the level of math rockers of the past, Polvo, June of 44, etc... Songs are as melodic, well-written, and performed as any of their predecessors, but of course, they not just faceless imitators saying: hey, lets write some math rock. It flows from them so naturally, it couldn't be anything else besides: Hal Al Shedad. While pretty similar stylistically to their debut, there is a small progression in maturity. But I couldn't recommend one over the other, so I recommend both.

5 out of 5 stars Soothing and Relaxing.......2004-01-30

I had heard "Tofino", "Drift Away" and "Majestic" and liked them, so I purchased the cd. All the songs feature a soft and relaxing guitar together with drums and keyboards. The basic tone througout all the songs is somewhat similar to that of Govi. As far as relaxation goes, I found that a number of major airlines use songs from this cd to help relax the passengers.

      5 out of 5 stars A perfect anti-stress remedy!.......2000-12-13

Jamie Bonk's outstanding versatility is the hallmark of this superb album. Jamie walks from the lighter chords (e.g. on "Honour") to the hottest Arabic lines (e.g. on "Haze") with a stunning serenity, as if it was a simple and easy manoeuvre, as if he could drive this car with just one hand, and sometimes he plucks his strings as if he had 23-finger hands! The album also features Sonya Mitlewski on keyboards and Jack Varvis on drums & percussion. Their performances are really very impressive! "I'm really, really lucky to have them on the album" Jamie says - and he's quite right! Unfortunately the "star scale" goes up to only five stars, because "A Perfetc Tomorrow" rates at least ten! Words are poor enough to describe such work of art. When you listen to this album, your feelings will certainly tell you too much more than any word!

I recommend this CD by Felice Pomeranz. She plays the harp with a good technique, a good sense of rhythm and she has a feel for jazz. Ms Pomeranz tackles challenging and unusual material. She takes risks and improvises which is something very few harpists can do. Her rhythm section provides solid support. I especially liked her original Penikese Peace. If you like albums which have unusual instrumentation and interesting and original material you will like this CD!
