Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

When I listen to this recording I feel impelled to jump to my feet and sing along. Some of the best sounds the musicians of our U.S. military bands have produced. Jimerson's renditions are unsurpassed!
Ed McMahon Was Right!.......2001-11-11
After I heard the music from this CD at the Ed McMahon Show in Branson, Missouri, I bought it. This has to be the best recording of patriotic music I've ever heard. The singers are Metropolitan Opera material and the band clearly employs many of the best bandsmen in the U.S. Armed Services.
Middle of the road........2001-11-04
The American National Military Band is great. The singing is awful. It would have been much better to have remove the singing and just have an instrumental CD. This is a 5 star CD with 5 star music but the singer drops it to 3 stars. Would have been 1 star if there weren't a few well done instrumental songs in it.

Grows.......2006-10-02
Didn't like this at first due to "girly" voice on some tracks, and it was in my overflow/dispose of rack, but recently heard a track off it on the radio (Bob Harris - BBC Radio 2) and decided to revisit. That annoying "girly" voice is still there on some tracks but there is also some good songwriting and musicianship here, Mark Stuart sounds like a young Buddy Miller, so maybe I won't throw it out after all. It's growing on me....

"shoot the Lights out boys!! This is one of the greatest hard core rockabilly albums Ive ever had the pleasure to purchase. I got the hint of the guys from a "Drive by truckers" show and took their advice, damn did it pay off! Im pissed I just found 'em. What can I say...Ive got great taste in music.
Cowpunk at its best!.......2001-04-26
If you're a Jason and the Scorchers fan, you need to get this CD. These guys capture the same lightning and you'll find the same excitement here as you do on early Scorchers albums and live recordings.
This CD is their best to date and shows their advancement as a band. "Cow Patty Bingo" is great too, but this one is slightly better.
Musical Salvation.......2000-04-09
"Light and Salvation," the follow up to the Ditchdiggers brilliant "Cow Patty Bingo" does not disappoint on any level. It has all the rollicking rocking and twanging fun of their previous release. Once again they push the boundaries of alternative/insurgent country and add their distinctive brand of cowpunk to the mix. With hysterical songs like "Cheap Motels," catchy melodies like "Will I Still Think About Her" and an inspired version of "Amazing Grace," that brings to mind comparisons to Jason and the Scorchers, this disk is a solid "countrified" party. At times their vocalist could easily be mistaken for a southern revivalist preacher, but if revivals were this much fun, everyone would be "saved." Don't take it all too seriously and it just may save your musical soul.
Cow-punk-a-billy Romp and Roll!.......2000-01-30
This is one of the most fun, and rocking, discs I've listened to in a long time. Imagine the Replacements meet Jason and the Scorchers meet the Ramones, and you've got some idea of what these guys are like.
Since the first day I've heard this disc, I can't quit playing it and having the songs like "Cowswinger" and "Cheap Motels" rattling through my head on a daily basis. I just hope these guys tour up north of the Mason-Dixon line sometime soon.

The ditchdiggers--you might want to classify these fine young laddies as cowpunkers but I take it one step further. This is honest and fun---really fun music to dance to, drink to, sing to and play the infamous "air guitar" to."Daddy made a Farmer" begs the speakers to up the juice and hold on for the ride. "Down on the Corner" makes you pull out the check book and make a generous donation to your local bible study. "One more Town" makes you pull out all your Johnny Thunders albums again. Give it up to Bryan, Chris, Dave, Lars, John Paul and go now dammit and buy this cd!
