4 out of 5 stars Great compilation - and that's just the first half........2005-09-14

I first got this on cassette in the summer of '94 and listened to it every day, drawn by its thematic range and compositional depth. And that was just side-one.

Elfman pioneered the sound that drives today's movie adaptations of comic-books and darker-themed children's stories. Side-One kicks things off with a rollicking, hyper-cartoonish theme from the first Pee-Wee movie - the one where Pee-Wee searches for his beloved bike. Elfman's theme contains layers of different rides - on tightropes, highways, in the middle of a NASCAR rally - which rudely yet melodically crash into each other.

The Batman entry actually contains several pieces - the opening credits, the extended sequence in the cathedral and the climax - which show Batman's darkened extreme at its "Frank Miller" best. (Dir. Tim Burton couldn't sustain the mood in the next sequel, and the franchise took a turn towards the camp of the TV series with the next 2 movies.)

The theme for "Dick Tracy" is perhaps the most romantic on this disc, a quality that surpasses the theme's comic-book origins, but ends on an ironic note that's pure Elfman.

"Beetlejuice" (opening & closing credits) gives Elfman's childish ID a chance to stretch its legs, or in this case, slam-dance.

"Nightbreed" is an enigma wrapped in a dark mystery, and that's just Elfman's score. Elfman's work on this movie is as good as the movie wasn't, having a more powerful narrative than the script - easily the best track on the entire disc, one likely to exceed the movie in its dose of chills.

"Darkman" doesn't quite rise to the occasion, though the score may be hobbled by the movie itself, which seldom surpassed one of the many "Batman" clones of the early 1990's. "Darkman" (the movie, I mean) excelled as a parody of many comicbook staples (the wronged hero, the relentless villain, the scientific breakthrough with just one flaw), but not enough to escape being largely anonymous. Within those constraints, it's still a moving if scary piece.

When is Elfman not like Elfman? When he was in the mid-late `80's and scored "Back to School" (A Rodney Dangerfield vehicle) and "Midnight Run". Horns in "School" bring it closer to Elfman's over-the-top style, while "Run" sounds like a love-theme for the run-down, out-of-the-way parts of America that seldom appear in Elfman-movies. "Run" is a fun score for a fun movie - it's nothing like Elfman's previous work but it perfectly captures the on-the-road-without-a-map craziness of the movie.

To this day, I don't know why I never ventured to Side-two, but it's irrelevant. Even half this disc is worth it

5 out of 5 stars The best of Elfman!!!.......2005-09-05

I was obsessed about getting this CD right from when I heard about it. I found it at the library and was so excited about it, and it didn't let me down. In fact, it was a lot better than I expected. It's a fun and creepy (strange mix, but it really works!) collection of Danny Elfman's film and television soundtracks. The first track, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, is probably my favorite. Also, I really like Batman and Wisdom. Batman is creepy and dark, and Wisdom is just weird, in the best possible way.
I'd recommend this to anyone who likes film music, or everyone who is even the tiniest bit an Elfman fan. It's amazing!

4 out of 5 stars Great Collection, A LIttle Too Eclectic.......2003-08-19

You should be able to tell from the movies and TV shows listed here whether or not you'd be interested in this collection. It's a little too eclectic for my tastes (hence only 4 stars) but better than volume 2. I think thatthe miscellaneous collected ites here along with the previously unreleased stuff should make this worth buying. Especially if you're a fan of Elfman's movie soundtrack work.

5 out of 5 stars What Great Music.......2003-05-11

I fell in love with the music of Danny Elfman when Beetlejuice came out. There was something different about the music that he made. When Edward Scissorhands, and then Nightmare Before Christmas - I knew this man was a musical master. Its the verbal form of surrealism.

5 out of 5 stars super.......2003-04-17

What a great CD. Danny's music is so original and inventive. this CD contains his pre 90's quirky, gothic music. it's all very well written and beautifully orchestrated. batman and darkman contain some really excellent long, dark, gothic cues that really take u away from reality. in my opinion no one, apart from howard shore, is as inventive and original as danny in the world of filmmusic. he far surpasses the repetitive works of williams or horner. buy this, and volume two, and keep supporting one of the greatest film composers of all time.ohh...and buy fellowship of the ring and two towers by howard shore....amazing work!

5 out of 5 stars Classic Scary Music.......2007-01-10

If you're looking for classic haunted castle type scary music, this is a good CD.
Used this in a haunted maze in our basement, and it helped freak the kids out fairly well.

5 out of 5 stars Classical and great.......2006-11-28

A must-have for your Halloween music collection. Different and strong, the music will definitely get you in the Halloween mood. I played it on my stereo while answering the door to trick-or-treaters. It made me feel "oh-so-spooky" and festive.

4 out of 5 stars Great collection, but they missed one.......2006-06-10

An excellent compilation of the darker side of classical music, although I would have preferred a different rendition of Toccata and Fugue in D (New York Philharmonic perhaps), it's still quite good.

But how could the series producer leave off Ravel's Pavane For a Dead Princess? It's preferable to Symphonie Fantastique - March to The Scaffold, plus Berlioz already makes an appearance with Dream of a Witches' Sabbath. If there was room, Verdi's Requiem would have been a nice addition too.

So I have to go with 4 stars only.

5 out of 5 stars The Perfect Halloween-Themed Classical Album.......2005-10-17

What better way to celebrate Halloween than by throwing a party and popping this recording on the stereo. This is classical music with a Halloween theme. Conductors Eugene Ormandy and George Pretre (whom I would have never believed did this kind of stuff) conducts classical music with a dark and Gothic twist. The cover is attrative- a cartoon drawing of the Phantom of the Opera playing on his organ. The first track is Bach's Toccata and Fugue for organ in D minor. It is genuinely considered a Halloween piece, and has been associated with such films as Dracula. The malevolent sound of the Toccata (the opening chords) are especially memorable. Danse Macabre was Saint Saen's ode to Halloween and it is a devilish waltz for violin. Gounod's Funeral March of a Marionette became famous for the theme to Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Night on Bald Mountain by Mussorgsky was used in Disney's Fantasia, in the last segment and is very frightening and brisk. Lisz's Mephisto Waltzes are piano pieces that evoke a wild frenzy but I find nothing dark about it. It is difficult music to play however. The music of Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique utilizes many horror themes. In the Romantic Era, Gothic lore spread and such figures as Mary Shelley and Bram Stroker would write novels of Gothic horror -Frankenstein and Dracula. In the Symphony Fantastique, a young man falls in love with an elusive woman. He imagines she is unfaithful to him and then has a disturbing dream in which she is a witch in a coven. Then he is marched to a scaffold and beheaded. The music is very compelling and dark. All the music here is great to listen to on Halloween and the conductors and orchestra play them well. A must have.

5 out of 5 stars Spooky Classical Music That Is Great For Halloween Or Anytime Of The Year!.......2005-10-16

I love Classical music, it is one of my favorite styles of music and I also like Halloween and scary movies, etc, I bought this CD because I heard, In The Hall of the Mountain King, Night on Bald Mountain, Dance Macabre and Funeral March of a Marionette and I liked them. Dance Macabre was used in a season 4 episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer called Hush. Also Funeral March of a Marionette was used as the theme for Alfred Hitchock Presents. All of these pieces are great and I also liked Tocata & Fuge in D minor. This CD with it's spooky sounding classical music is great for playing on Halloween but can really be listened to anytime and not just on Halloween and I highly recommend it!

This is well written darker music. It's hauntingly beautiful. We use it (and others) as background for D&D campaigns.

3 out of 5 stars Vampyre: Symphonies from the Crypt.......2007-01-19

Once again, it is okay, but not what I had intended to purchase. At least I'll have some more Halloween music!

5 out of 5 stars Gets better with age..........2007-01-10

The first time I heard this album, I wasn't blown away. It was good and all, but I liked it the least of all of the previous Midnight Syndicate albums. Not too long ago, I pulled it out again and listened to it again. It's funny how your opinion of something can change over time. This time, I WAS blown away. I thought to myself "How could I have only thought 'yeah, it's pretty good' back then?" This CD was amazing!

If you weren't overly impressed the first tme you heard this CD, throw it back in and give it another try. It might just sound a little different to your ears this time around.

5 out of 5 stars Vampyre : Symphonies from the Crypt.......2007-01-04

Wonderful music. Very mysterious and otherworldly. I listen to it all the time!

5 out of 5 stars A Must Listen.......2006-10-29

I just got done listening to this album. It's the first of its kind for me. I was completely blown away. Forget the fact that vampires don't exist (right?) and just fantasize that they do and give this album a listen. If this doesn't get you somewhere within your soul, I swear you're dead (no pun intended).

5 out of 5 stars "That was the grooviest!".......2007-05-18

One of the finest discs of American gutbucket rock and roll ever assembled, the first volume of the Back From the Grave series is a monstrously fun collection of obscure 60s garage punk. Everything about the set embodies the greasy, bloody-minded, and joyous spirit of classic r'n'r. The songs are raucous, raw, and rabid, dripping with teenage insanity and pulse-pounding passion. Just listen to those songs: "My Confusion" comes roaring out of the gate sounding like the great lost Rolling Stones single, rattling along on a whirlwind guitar line and some double-time drums. The Jujus' "Do You Understand Me" keeps up the pace, stomping along with a slinky main melody, some wonderfully snarled vocals, and what may very well be the coolest instrumental break in human history (which features an actual motorcycle being driven through the studio!). Other gems include The Lyrics' "They Can't Hurt Me," which exemplifies adolescent rage, positively brimming with lyrical bitterness and sneering vocals. It's also catchy as hell. There's also "That's the Bag I'm In," the Fabs' superb reworking of a folk tune (originally by Fred Niel). The version found here is a tense, pounding, fuzz-guitar-driven hard luck anthem, with a shout-along chorus. The explosiuve "Surfside Date," the acid-drenched "We All Love Peanut Butter," and The Banshees' frat-rock slopfest "They Prefer Blondes" are also fantastic. Which is to say nothing of brillaint bursts of absolute insanity such as "The Crusher," "Jack the Ripper," and "Scream." Best of all, there's "Rats Revenge," which the spot-on liner notes refer to as a "U.R.G.B. (Utterly Genius Ridiculous Blast)!" It's a work of idiotic brilliance, an absolutely over-the-top raver that transforms a "Louie Louie" chord progression into Bach (and vice versa). And there's so much more great music on this set than the songs I've mentioned. Basically, this is a full disc of wall-to-wall great music, an endless party that simply demands volume. Buy it, play it, and thank your lucky stars that someone thought to release it. Long live rock!

4 out of 5 stars Great first wave punk rock.......2006-05-03

Great music to cruise around in your vintage car to. The first half of the CD is great. The "Rats Revenge part 1 and 2" are the most retarded songs I've ever heard but thats what makes them great! Larry and the Blue Notes doing the "Night of the Phantom" will make you check your back when you make out with a hot kitten in the back of your car at inspiration point. Triumphs rip in to surf punk romp "Surfside Date" that will kick any of these vans wearing, blonde tipped suburbian punk whiners in their pampered butts! Then your on to two of my favorites on the CD the first being "Scream", a massacre take-off on the then popular song "Shout" and it sounds so much better. It sounds as if when they recorded this song they were murdering someone, very unnerving. Then the awesome Novas do the song "The Crusher" I'm speechless to describe what a artistic masterpiece this is. The grunty screamy vocals, and the slow sludge of the guitars makes this CD worth buying after that it kind of goes downhill for me. It gets a little monotonous on the second half. However the first half redeems the CD completely. This is a must for people who like dirt in their music.

5 out of 5 stars This is as pure as rock n' roll gets!!.......2006-04-27

Sometimes we seem to forget that the heart of rock n' roll is horny teenagers making loud, obnoxious noises in the garage just because, dammit, it FEELS GOOD. It's definitely an aquired taste, but this series is a great reminder of what rock n' roll was originally meant to be. Out of time, out of tune, but a hell of a lot of fun. It's worth it for the One Way Streets insane mutilation of Jack the Ripper alone. And anybody who can't listen to Rats Revenge parts I and II and not grin like an idiot is dead. This might not be the beginnings of punk rock, but punk wouldn't have happened without stuff like this. Definitely recommended if you want to know where it all really started.

5 out of 5 stars Rat's Revenge.......2006-02-08

I honestly feel sorry for anyone who doesn't "get" this music. It's about creating instead of consuming, it's about taking a shot against the odds, but mostly it's about having fun.

A couple tracks stand out for me. The JuJu's - definitely a one take wonder. You have a motorcycle revving, a bottle breaking, and a totally trip atonal guitar riff. This makes the Sex Pistols sound like over produced dinosaur rock.

But my favorite is Rat's Revenge pts. 1 & 2. I can't think of any song I ever heard that sounds like the were having so much fun making it. The world would be a better place if we still had the Rats instead of the Rolling Stones...

4 out of 5 stars Great garage rock comp.......2005-01-17

Like many garage-philes have stated, this is the next logical step in the history of garage rock, right after the enormously influential "Nuggets" and "Pebbles" compilations. Unlike some other comps of the sort, Crypt is only interested in bringing out the best of 60s garage rock 'n' roll. This is a perfect testament to why some people considor this to be the original punk rock. I wouldn't go that far, but it certainly influenced it a good deal. While some songs on this album are better than others, there are no really unbearable tracks. "Surfside Date", the cover of "Psycho", and espescially "Sticks and Stones" show why this music was so appealing to the teens of the day.

In a parallel universe the Misfits would be gods. Admittedly it would be a universe created by darkly humorous filmmaker Tim Burton and every day would be Halloween, but such minor considerations have never held them back. In fact, for over 20 years their brand of gothic punk has attracted a sizeable cult following in the real world and with a new lineup taking shape in 1995 they found themselves attracting a fresh set of fans.

Cuts from the Crypt raids the vaults of the past five years to showcase some of their best and unreleased moments featuring current vocalist Michale Graves. It's a no-nonsense collection of metal, punk, and rock located halfway between the Damned and Iron Maiden, with its tongue firmly placed in its cheek. In homage to the aforementioned director the first six tracks are from a lost demo called "Mars Attacks," while other highlights include their grimly faithful version of the '60s hit, "Monster Mash." Best of all is the ludicrously camp "I Wanna Be a NY Ranger," which suggests that the Misfits are what the Village People would have become if they had swapped the disco for the graveyard. Now that really would be a parallel universe. --William Luff

The Doors aren't the doors without Jim Morrison, Nirvana isn't Nirvana without Kurt Cobain and The Misfits aren't the Misfits without Glen Danzig. The original Misfits featured Glen Danzig on vocals and after he left the following incarnations were garbage. In my mind there is no Misfits without Glen. End of story. This was the finale to the Graves area and overall is a fitting goodbye.
"Dead Kings Rise" is one of their best songs ever and why it wasn't issued on an album is a completely beyond me,it grabs you with it's skeletal hands around your neck and refuses to let go for the duration of the song.
The "Mars Attacks" demo is a bit more punkier than the"American Psycho" version and you can easily imagine the Ramones in the studio background drinking a few beers whilst"I wanna be a NY Ranger" was being recorded,it has a stamp of New York punk rock authenticity all over it.
"Monster Mash" was destined to be recorded by the Misfits and illustrates how the band had a great sense of humour about things as opposed to a lot of Black/Death metal types who take themselves very, very seriously indeed.
"One Million Years B.C." baffles me because like "Dead Kings Rise" it's another awesomely powerful piece of music that really packed a punch and showed The Misfits were very much back from the dead.
Why neither of these tracks went straight onto the "Famous Monsters" album will confuse me untill my dying day or at least untill I meet either Jerry or Doyle or Graves.
When we come to "No More Moments" this is the reason why I gave it four stars and not five also intially I wasn't that bothered about "Devil Doll" ," Fiend without a Face" and "Bruiser" but I have to admit that over time(and with a significant lack of any new Misfits material emerging from Misfits records) these songs have grown on me.
We read in the CD booklet how Graves had been listening to a lot of Jim Morrison at the time of recording"No More Moments" and it shows thankfully there were no more moments like that!!.
Was that the direction Graves was going to take the Misfits in
for a third studio album? we'll never know although in a final irony the last track is Black Flag's "Rise Above" an absouletly awesome punk anthem that any old punkers like myself will feel a rush of adrenaline when you hear the opening chords.
Whilst "No More Moments" was the funeral march of the Graves era of the band with Dez and Robo in the band and rumours of a new studio album (unfortunatly Jerry is notorious for mentioning ideas that never seem to happen or take a considerable amount of time before they do) full time now "Rise Above" may very well be a glimpse of the future
Let's keep our fingers crossed.

5 out of 5 stars just what the mad doctor ordered!!.......2004-10-23

HALLOWEEN IS UPON US AND I WAS AT MY MOST GHOULISH AND NEEDED A MISFITS FIX AND CUTS FROM THE CRYPT DID THE TRICK! ANOTHER DEVILISH DELIGHT THAT ROCKS!

4 out of 5 stars Awsome Awsome Awsome!!!!!!!!.......2004-05-15

For songs that were cut and singals that were never made this is so cool. It gives a chance for all misfits bands to see stuff they mist. Every song on this Cd is spectacular. I have never heard Monster Mash do danceble. Not that i dance to it but the song actually is wrocking beat not soft and slow like the origanal.

5 out of 5 stars very good.......2004-04-23

Cuts From The Crypt and Project 1950 have to be accepted for what they are to be enjoyed and some are stuck in a rut and may not give these the credit they deserve, but take them for what they are and they really deliver. Cuts is a collection of demos, sound track songs, rare cuts and alternate versions, but it's fantastic. Dead Kings Rise rocks the best, but it's all good and fiendish fun.

5 out of 5 stars This Is A Nice Blend of Music.......2005-08-04

This is a nice blend of music, keeping it on the heavy side for the most part. You don't have to see the movie to like the soundtrack, although I did. You have some Pantera, you have some Filter, some Megadeth and some Rollins Band, and more. Happy to have it in my collection.

4 out of 5 stars 'Tales From The Crypt:Demon Knight'-Original Motion Picture Soundtrack'(Atlantic).......2005-08-01

Now here's a movie soundtrack featuring some heavy-duty stalwarts such as Biohazard,Megadeth,Sepultura,Ministry,The Melvins among others.Better cuts include the Pantera classic "Cemetery Gates"(the disc's sole previously released track),Ministry's "Tonight We Murder",Rollins Band with "Fall Guy" and The Melvin's "Instant Larry".The hard&heavy rap tune "1-800-Suicide" by Gravediggaz is tolerable.Remember, this is coming from someone who usually cannot stand rap.A decent soundtrack CD to have a copy of.

5 out of 5 stars great heavy soundtrack.......2004-09-07

this is one of the best heavy metal sountracks out there. this has one of the best songs ever released by pantera entitled cemetary gates(track 1). diedems from megadeath(track 4) was a great song, but the highlights where hey man, nice shot by filter(track 9) and 1-800-suicide by the gravediggaz(track 10). i was surprised to see a rap song on a primarily heavy metal soundtrack, but this one fit. if you liked the spawn soundtrack, crow soundtrack, and valentine soundtrack, then you will like this.

5 out of 5 stars Great Metal Album.......2003-10-07

I saw this in a pawn shop for 3 dollars and I took a look at it. I was blown away by the great bands that are on this CD. Every song on this CD is well worth listening to and I would gladly pay 15 bucks for this album new. I mean who couldn't love an album that has Pantera, Megadeth, Rollins Band, Sepultura and Filter all in one? This is just a great offereing and if you like Rollins it features one of their best songs to date. If you love metal, this is a great sampler album for you.

4 out of 5 stars Loud Guitars, Fast Drums, Live Sound: TAKE NO PRISONERS, BOYS!.......2006-08-21

The Oblivians are an overall great band. I own this record and "Play Nine Songs With Mr. Quintron" (another good album, with lots of gospel.) When they recorded this album they just walked into the studio, smashed through their live routine and released it (the best way to record an album.) When my friend played me this album at first I wasn't too crazy about the Oblivians, so I would definitely say they are an acquired taste. This album is loud and racy, but good hearted. I would say the best songs are "Vietnam War Blues," "Jim Cole," "Sunday You Need Love," "Never Change," and last but DEFINATELY NOT LEAST, "Nigger Rich." And, let me say, it is not racist or slanderous, and the first line is the most important "A Nigger Can Be Black Or White." So, overall, this is a fantastic record, but I can see where it wouldn't be some people's thing.

5 out of 5 stars oblivians.......2000-08-11

This band is the best Crypt has to offer. If you haven't heard of the oblivians, do yourself a favor and check this out. This is low fidelity, high volume magic. If you like loud, fast music get this fast and play it loud. Your neighbors will complain but you won't care.

This punk-influenced San Diego raveup outfit regularly tosses glorious, sweaty, band-slamming rock Armageddon at its live audiences with chaotic rapture and alcohol-fueled showmanship. Getting it on record, on the other hand, has always been a beguiling challenge for John Reis, a.k.a. Speedo, and his motley band of musical miscreants. A major part of the fun in RFTC's music, however, as well as on RFTC the album, has more to do with the insolence of the very attempt itself. On raucous numbers like "Break It Up," the band clearly flourishes, with the song's fiery, infectious groove and anthemlike refrain skipping rocks over your speaker parts. The best way to gauge Rocket from the Crypt's album-to-album success? Let it rip in a room full of people and watch how popular you suddenly become. --Mathew Cooke

4 out of 5 stars WILL ROCK YOUR SKULL OUT!.......2006-08-19

I don't know what this is but I like it. Is it punk, hard core, metal? I don't know yet its a rock and roll locomotive.

The music is nasty, in your face, very catchy and melodic. It talks about "dicks on a dog" so it is also very intellectual.

The liner notes are bizarre and the band members do not have names. Perfect!

All the songs are very good.

The cover art sums up the material perfectly...some wild caged animal breaking loose and exploding at ya. That is what this music is.

I have listened to RFTC other works and this is their best. The other stuff is too punk. This is more like NY Dolls/Areosmith raunch.

2 out of 5 stars Somebody shoot me before I buy this album AGAIN........2006-07-08

Honestly, what was I thinking? The Mighty Mighty Rocket Disaster must have crashed its '68 Camarro into Planet Suburbia and gotten seriously wasted on red tips & cosmos. I know you don't care of course; you still think RFTC is the greatest thing to come out of San Diego since pink flamingoes and jujitsu. For mine own part, I can't take it anymore. I can't. Jeez Louise, the rockets were my most favoritest band in the world until the fateful day I played this record FORWARDS at the REGULAR SPEED on my tape deck and experienced a very impolite awakening. Now, Speedo isn't a completely worthless human being. There's always Jehu, and if you're looking for bargain disks I seriously recommend Reis' solo project: Back Off Cupids. Besides that, I can't help you.

So why don't you kill me already?

4 out of 5 stars Cool and retro with a little rock-a-billy.......2003-05-01

Rocket From The Crypt is the best thing to come out of San Diego ever! These guys give ever ounce of rock and roll strength through their instruments and this album once again proves that Rocket From The Crypt are pioneers in the music age of the past decade and only time will tell the truth of these guys greatness in their music style and writing. The first song starts right off the bat with backing up vocals with chick Holly GoLightly called 'Eye on You' and then after that the vintage guitar riff of an old blues slide telling you the album is going to an virtual rock and roll freak show! The tracks 3 and 4 are more punkier tunes that last around a minute and a half to two minutes (I Know)(Panic Scam). Then the song goes into another great track (Made For You) and next a slow song of a woman's lasting kiss witch only sounds good when done by Rocket From The Crypt (Lipstick). The next 7 songs go the same way and the album stands on a new ground for Rocket From The Crypt since their last album - SCREAM DRACULA SCREAM was an absolute classic! This album is a really good listen and if you haven't even heard of this band than I suggest you get some tracks to listen to because you won't be disappointed in this bands view of rock and roll MAYHEM!

5 out of 5 stars A great sound yet to be duplicated.......2002-09-30

Imagine if the Specials met the Bay City Rollers while in tour with Black Sabbath. The spawn of this union would be Rocket From the Crypt. The band has a deep sound : horns, a thumping bass line and dueling guitars. RFTC is a mature piece - more polished than Scream Dracula Scream or Circa Now - but just as invigorating. If RFTC keeps putting out alblums like this, sign me up for the fan club.

5 out of 5 stars A DAMN fine record........2000-03-02

Tell ya what, folks, when it's sunny out, this is the record I throw into my deck and crank when I head to work. A great album for a 23 mile commute, RFTC kicks off with the rockin' "Eye on You" and won't let go.

Rocket are at their best on RFTC. "Panic Scam", "When in Rome" and "Back in the Stand" have awesome riffs, keeping your head nodding and your booty shakin. The slower songs like "Break it Up" and "Let's get Busy" are no less raucous with lyrics that impart all that's good ( and bad ) about life and love.

It's too bad Rocket doesn't get more radio play; they're better than half the weak bands out there today. I can't reccommend this cd (or Scream, Dracula, Scream!) highly enough.

5 out of 5 stars Scream Dracula, Scream .......2006-12-14

One of the more underrated punk/rock bands out there. Great Rock'N'Roll with some punk touches here and there. As I think this album is now out of print, it's totally worth the $20.00, heck I'd probably pay more if I didn't already own this.

5 out of 5 stars 90's Punk Classic.......2006-11-12

RFTC is one of the great bands to forward the punk sound in the 90's. A great mix of aggression, horns, showmanship and pop sensibility RFTC is both a great live and studio band. Scream Dracula Scream is their fine hour and a must for any fan of the early 90's music scene.

5 out of 5 stars Japanese band that rocks harder than most American bands.......2005-01-17

By far the greatest rock 'n' roll band to come from Japan. This is one of those albums that manages to be rawer than raw can be. In all the lame arty or poppy bands classified as rock in 90s, these guys (and Crypt Records in general) are the saving light. Support Crypt by buying this and the 90s masterpeice "Destroy-Oh-Boy" by the New Bomb Turks. Few have heard either of these albums, but all that do seem to love them. Anyone who doesn't dig tunes like "Dressed In Black" or "Mess Me Up" seriously needs to have their heads checked.

4 out of 5 stars A SHORT History Of The Tone Arm.......2004-02-06

Who among us can understand the lessons of the American Sixties? Teengenerate could, and for those willing to engage in something of a conceit (i.e., not former members) this is an incredibly instructive record; one which frankly could not improve off LP, as nearly every noise on this (ostensible) 4-track recording could have been made by the phonograph equipment itself. Fink, Fifi, Sammy, and Shoe (the remains of the American Soul Spiders) clearly listened to their Dictators records very carefully, because there is absolutely involved with the Teengenerate "presentation of self" which suggests that you, *in certain moods*, could not do the same (i.e., work within the logical extension of the dispensation opened by "revivalist" acts of the pre-Pistols 70s). I suspect the "local color" is that this is a "speed tribe" without speed, and if so more power to their memory (i.e., let's have some more records like this): however, if you're still waiting for bondage to up yours, best to stay away.

4 out of 5 stars DEGENERATES.......2003-07-09

Japaneese punk recorded live in the studio onto 4-track is as crude as an A.M. transistor radio blasting out Ramones singles at fast speed. Now slam that transistor on the sidewalk, open the back and find a pulsating thingamijing vibrating a strangely foreign tongue like other wordly messages, and you have Teengenerate. Vocalist Fink does a dead-on early Joe Strummer and the rest of them do a mean Alvin and The Chipmunks.

5 out of 5 stars the greatest workout CD of all time.......2001-04-02

Once this gets going it doesn't ever let up. If you need a little extra push going up that big hill, this screamer will do it for you. For me it peaks deep in, around track 14 or so (Don't leave me alone), in which the punk attitude turns to sheer desperate sincerity (like the earliest Black Flag).

5 out of 5 stars It's a real savage!.......2001-03-02

Unforgettable Japanese Kings of genuine garage-punk! Because of their ultra lo-fi(no-fi) approach, it might take a few spins on your turntable to realize how unique these cats are: but this is pure love for primal R&R-from the streets; the kind of sixties attitude that makes me enthusiast, like the Pagans, The Heartbreakers or DMZ. Great Gibson Les Paul-rifferama!
