Keeping the garage torch burning since 1983, the Cynics come through like a rude blast of fuzz-tone guitar.

Product Description
In May 2002 THE CYNICS hooked up with ace producer/R&R spiritual counselor TIm Kerr in Austin, TX. to record their first studio album in 7 years and most likely their best one to date! Recorded at Sweat Box Studios with Mike Vasquez and Bryan Nelson engineering, the tracks were laid down in just three days and they capture the energy and intensity of the Cynics live performances. The songs cover quite a dynamic range -- from howling, fuzzed-out punkers to mid-tempo melodic folk-rock nuggets to pure psych-garage mayhem. All with the ever-present Gretsch guitar sound of Gregg Kostelich and the gnarly great in-your-face vocals of Michael Kastelic. Completing the sound is Tom Hohn's prime beat bashing and Smith Hutching's solid bass.

5 out of 5 stars A Little Classic Of Mine.......2006-11-18

This album will forever be tucked in with some of my all time classic rock/punk/alternative discs. And I know this does not compare to my lifelong favorite "Let it Bleed" by the Stones, but it is catchy, full of guitar, melody, and harmonies. Songs 1-10 are all very good, the first five tracks are great, reminiscent of MXPX and The Movielife mixed together. These songs are ones that I have lived in. I can put in this disc and rock out, or just drift away, and each one reminds me of times in my life that are precious to me. This CD is WAY better than their 2004 release "Forget What You Know." If you are hungry for some power pop/punk rock, this will satisfy your appetite for months!

5 out of 5 stars SWEET ASS.......2005-01-06

I've listened to a ton of bands like this, (The MovieLife, NFG, Taking Back Sunday, Saves the Day, Brand New, The Ataris, Armor for Sleep, etc.) (all of which I recomend)If you like any of those bands buy this CD.
This CD is sick, I knew it the first time I listened. Fairly unique and not to pop-punk but not only screaming. One of the best CD's of its kind, goes right up with Where You Want To Be, and Deja Entendu.
Become What You Hate, Like A Movie

5 out of 5 stars Living Well is a great CD.......2004-12-05

Despite their lack of on-air time, I really like their sound. It is the best of their three CDs, with Save the World next and Forget what you know in a definite last place. Also check out Autopilot Off if you like Midtown.

5 out of 5 stars Top-notch pop-punk.......2004-10-13

As a Jersey boy, I've known Midtown since the days when there were still shows going on at the Wayne Firehouse. And I couldn't be happier today, because this CD is amongst the best pop-punk has to offer. They are in the same class as bands such as Rufio and Autopilot Off.

Well, enough background. About this CD, its quite simply a straight forward rock-pop-punk CD. The guitar leads are nice and punchy without being overly flashy. The CD has a great pop sensibility while retaining and edgy rock feel. The songs are very well written, very catchy, makes you want to sing along and jump around at the same time.

Every song on here is pretty awesome, but these are the best of the best
"Become What You Hate"
"Still Trying"
"Get It Together"
"Like A Movie"
"Perfect"
"One Last Time"

Just an awesome CD....if you're a fan of (good)pop-punk, go get it.

2 out of 5 stars A step backwards.......2004-06-29

I like Midtown. Have since Save the World came out. I have to say this is a small step backward. Not a huge one, but noticable. The lyrics aren't as good, and most of the songs aren't as catchy. The best songs are A faulty foundation, become what you hate, find comfort and yourself and still trying. the rest of the album is terribly mediocre. id give it a 2.5 but i cant so its a 2.

if you want to check out midtown grab save the world lose the girl.

other bands to check out are saves the day, the movielife, fastbreak, lifetime, and shattered realm

4 out of 5 stars Don't call it a comeback!!.......2003-11-02

Pittsburgh's Cynics were banging out fuzz-drenched garage rock while The Hives, Mooney Suzuki, etc were in short pants. It's been a while, but Mike and Greg are back (with a new rhythm section) unleashing their best work since the mind-blowing "Rock And Roll" lp. What's not to love. Sneering vocals, speaker-shredding guitar and a fine combination of garage stompers, Kinks like pop and a smidgen of psychedelia. Forget about the Swedish invasion and slap this baby on. It's like a newly un-earthed volume of Nuggets.

5 out of 5 stars great retro/garage sound.......2003-01-16

Pure and simple rock 'n roll. Lots of fun and lots of energy. Great mix of near punk sounding songs and late 60's style (NOT psychedelia. I'm going back and buying some of their earlier stuff, now, but, this would seem to be a great introduction to a band deserving of more attention.

This is an excelent album. If you dont have their first album "Save the World, lose the girl", you need to get that too. Otherwise you can relate them. I think this album is a little better than thier first one, however, theyre both great albums!
