Hate to sound repetetive but they're so good.......2006-10-05
I was given a copy of this album by a friend and listened to it many times over and over. The minute I found it I bought it. I wish that they had more of their stuff available for purchase I'd really like to get Laughing Gas Opera. Even beyond my desire to support the band and bring them up if they are still playing. I desperately want to see them live and would be willing to fly home from school to do so.
This album is a beautiful piece of music and one of the most relaxing and enjoyable albums I own, aside from maybe DJ Shadow's Endtroducing... which is coincidentally from the same vacinity in California as The Coma Lilies.

300 Words for Michael.......2004-10-12
A band that is vocal-free and better for it, the Coma Lilies are a group that pride themselves on the excellent craft-work of their songs. Creating quirky drum rhythms that ascend and descend at just the right times, guitar lines that are both original and catchy, and an overall sound that is engaging, varied and interesting, the Coma Lilies have succeeded in becoming a band that works as a unit. With signature bass lines that are fun, intricate, and enjoyable carefully juxtaposed against keyboards that are spacey, somber, and beautiful, the Coma Lilies blend all the elements that are essential to making good music: skill, energy, variety, and vision.
The new self-titled Coma Lilies album is a decadent, dark, and soulful piece the listener will never tire of. An album that builds each song with great ease, the album flows wonderfully while each song retains its own unique sound. There are several stand out songs on this new Coma Lilies release. "Peggy Sue" is an amazingly constructed piece which contains virtuosic violin playing, soft yet enveloping guitar lines, and climactic, multi-faceted drumming. Technically stunning, and extremely memorable, this track is a testament to the incredible musical abilities that the Coma Lilies possess. "One Day He Will Disappear" is another song that is particularly grabbing. The song contains haunting and eerie keyboards, ominous guitar lines, and low, reverberating bass lines. This track draws you in with its layered instrumentation and the overall way the song bombards you with sound. The perfect follow up to "Peggy Sue," "One Day He Will Disappear" is an impressive, lasting piece.
The new Coma Lilies release is a unified and captivating album. Creating their own definitive voice, The Coma Lilies made an album that I am proud to have had the opportunity to listen to.
Splendid!.......2004-09-07
The Coma Lilies music is amoung the best to emerge in recent years. The band's unique guitar and songwriting style sets them far apart from any of the obvious comparisons. The Coma Lilies'approach to songwriting entirely negates the conventional need for lyrics, rather the moods that develop within the composition are emphasised as guitars carry the hooks. Each song seems to tell a story, some even sound like they have three-act structures. This CD is appropriate listening for any mood, and the iherint emotion in the music will never fails to elevate ones state of mind.
My only criticsm of this record is that although it has nine tracks, a few of these are less developed than others, so the CD is shorter than one might think. The album's opener "Grab a Fork Micron" sets the bar for rocking out high, a point which is not again reached in the rest of the album. However, the sonic excellence of the music persists, and the ablum that feeling wholeness that great albums have. "The Coma Lilies" is a fine work of art, the word "masterpiece" even seems fitting. Buy it! You will be glad you did.
original sound; the coma lilies.......2004-07-20
the coma lilies have a very original sound. they are different than most of the bands these days that focus on the lirics, instead they focus on what the instruments can do which gives them an unique quality. all of the musicians in this band are very talanted and it would be really nice to see the coma lilies get some publicity.
Cheer up emo kids...the Coma Lilies are here.......2004-06-10
Lemme start off by saying I listen to death metal, not exactly close to what the Coma Lilies play....but even I can tell, these guys are rad! Even if you don't like instrumental music, this album is far from the usual boring stuff, and it's a good album to put on and just chill out. It does drag in some places, but overall it's a really original sound, and they blew me away when I saw them live. Support underground bands!
