Customer Reviews:
Highly Recommended!.......2007-04-05
This Dusty Springfield collection gives a great overview of the finest moments in Dusty Springfied's long recording career. From the early Sprigfields track "Island of Dreams" till the 1990 track "Reputation". Logically main focus is on her greatest period from middle 60's till early 70's when she scored several top-ten hits all of which are included here.
Among the lesser known tracks are the fine "Dusty in Memphis" outtake "You've Got a Friend" and a rare live recording of "Quiet Please, There's a Lady on Stage".
Her hit with the Pet Shop Boys "What Have I Done to Deserve This" is also included. All in all a great and highly recommendable collection.
The Only Dusty Springfield Album You'll Ever Need.......2006-12-03
This is the compilation to end all compilations! Includes her signature classics, "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me," "Son Of A Preacher Man," "The Look Of Love," and "I Only Want to Be With You." But there's much, much more to Dusty. She put her timeless spin on so many hits of the rock era, one would think the songs were written for her. Just listen to her take on "Anyone Who Had A Heart," "You've Got A Friend," "This Girl's In Love With You," "Close To You," "Goin' Back," "If You Go Away," "You Don't Own Me," "Piece Of My Heart," "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," "Make It With You," and "Oh No, Not My Baby." All were made hits by other artists, but listening to them on this compilation will make you forget the original recordings. There's so much more to this collection than her hits and covers. It spans 4 decades of her career, and closes out with her hits with the Pet Shop Boys, "What Have I Done To Deserve This," and "In Private." Look no further, this is a great greatest hits collection. She is simply sublime.

Customer Reviews:
Strong British compilation full of quality.......2003-05-19
This compilation includes many of Dusty's sixties hits, plus some of her eighties comeback hits. However, it does not include any of her Springfield hits (Island of dreams in the UK, Silver threads and golden needles in the USA), nor does it include any of her seventies music, so it cannot be described as a career-spanning retrospective.
The set opens with Dusty's first solo hit, the classic I only want to be with you, although the songs are not presented in any particular order, least of all chronological - indeed, the second song, In private, was Dusty's last British top twenty hit (at least during her lifetime - you never know if there will be another on the back of a commercial or a movie).
Other classics here include I just don't know what to do with myself, Some of your loving, Going back, You don't have to say you love me, I close my eyes and count to ten, Losing you, In the middle of nowhere and Son of a preacher man, all of which reached the top ten in sixties Britain. Dusty's chart record was very different in America - Wishing and hoping, also included here, was a top twenty American hit but was never released as a single in Britain. Many lesser hits are also included.
Three notable covers are also here - Twenty-four hours from Tulsa, Anyone who had a heart and If you go away. Dusty recorded many covers, but these are among the best and certainly the equal of the original versions of these songs, perhaps even better.
The eighties are represented by In private, What have I done to deserve this (with the Pet shop boys) and Nothing has been proved, but the most recent song here is Wherever would I be, recorded in 1995.
There have been many Dusty compilations, but this is one of the strongest.

Customer Reviews:
Remixes spoil an otherwise decent collection.......2005-01-17
It may not include all of the American hits (eg. Early in the Morning) but the most significant international hits are here and digitally remastered.
What is wrong with this compilation are the remixed versions of "Bad case of loving you" and "Looking for clues". These remixes appeared on an earlier Palmer compilationn and have resurfaced again on this! Why? Apparently Palmer re-recorded these and other early songs a few years back because he wasn't happy with the originals. Unfortunately, the originals are brilliant, and should have been included. Based on reviews for the American equivalent of this compilation, other customers agree with me.
The CD also includes two new songs recorded before his untimely death.
Addicted to a Simply Irresistible Music Album.......2004-01-16
I had forgotten the late Robert Palmer had so many hits. I wasn't very old when most of them came out but when I hear them on this CD I still remember them, they are great songs. I originally got this album for Some Like It Hot and Simply Irresistible and whilst they would still be my favourites I'd have to say there's definitely no fillers on this album. Throughout Robert Palmer's career he made some great songs, and you'll find them on here. Definitely a must have album. Also a pretty extensive cover booklet that gives you a great background and history. No lyric sheet is the only thing that lets this album down.
At His Best Better Than Very Best But Not The Best Of Palmer.......2003-12-05
At His Very Best is slightly different singles collection of Robert Palmer's work, focussing heavily on songs that hit either the US or UK Top 20 in the 80's and 90's. Similair track listing to the previously released The Very Best Of Robert Palmer, there are only a few variations, although this collection does feature Palmer's excellent funk rock cover of Allen Toussaint's "Sneaking Sally Through The Alley" as well as two selections from his critically acclaimed 2003 album Drive. Unfortunately, other than "Sneaking Sally", Palmer's early years are largely ingnored except for the US Top 20 Hits "Bad Case Of Loving You" and "Every Kinda People". Likewise, most of Palmer's post 1990 output other than the two Drive cuts is unaccounted for as well. If it's hits you are looking for, thsi set does have them. Palmer trademarks like "Addicted To Love", "Simply Irresistible", "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On", "You Are In My System", "Some Like It Hot", and "Get It On (Bang A Gong)", the last two performed with the Power Station, are all included. Only a handful of US hits, namely "Early In The Morning", "You're Amazing", and "Hypercative" are absent, replaced by UK chart toppers like "She Makes My Day" and "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight", an inventive reggae cover of the classic Bob Dylan hit performed with Ub40. Palmer's transatlantic smash hit Marvin Gaye cover "Mercy Mercy Me/I Want You" is also included. Solid but unspectacular collection that would suit casual fans but leave more interested listeners cold.
One Song Short of 5 Stars.......2003-10-21
This is a wonderful compilation of Palmer tunes and the remastering sounds great. As unbelievable as it seems, they omitted "Best of Both Worlds" and for that sin I can only award the effort 4 stars.

Album Description
German only double disc collection from the Rock/Soul vocalist. . Palmer first rose to fame in the '70s with a series of extremely creative and diverse solo albums. He could wrap his voice around a heartbreaking melody and make you cry, then get your blood boiling with a powerfully soulful rocker. He was a critical darling but didn't hit the high end of the charts until he teamed up with Power Station in '83, then followed that up with his biggest hit 'Addicted To Love' in '85. He continued to create amazing music until his death of a heart attack in 2003. 28 tracks including 'Addicted to Love', 'Some Guys Have all the Luck', 'Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)', 'Riptide', 'Maybe It's You', 'Looking for Clues', 'Woke Up Laughing', 'Johnny and Mary' and many more. Universal.

Customer Reviews:
Best early Steve Winwood you can find.......2006-02-04
I bought this on tape waaaay back in the early 80's and basically loved it to death and have been looking for a replacement since. This is the first time I've found a disc available with all 16 tracks on it and it is definitely worth it for people looking to hear what Winwood did in the early years.
Beter than new stuff.......2003-11-15
I have read the other reveiw which laments the lack of solo hits from the '90's. This person is probably unaware that this album actually came out in the very early '80's under the title of "Chronicles". I remember buying the album (2 lp's) because it had dear Mr Fantasy on it. It was an eye opener. ALL the songs are very good. I have become very disappointed with Stevie's output since his album "GO". This material is superior to anything he has done lately. I would encourage anyone to buy this album.
No solo material!?.......2003-09-18
Steve Winwood is one of the finest musical artists to have existed in the latter half of the twentieth century. From his days with the Spencer Davis Group to his days in the eighties as a pop-rock solo artist, he rarely failed to please. It's no surprise he got a CD in the Twentieth Century Masters collection. Read on for my review.
PROS:
-This compilation has Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith, and Traffic material, meaning you get several hits. Among these are I'm a Man, Gimme Some Lovin', Paper Sun, and Dear Mr. Fantasy.
-This is an affordable compilation, making it ideal for the casual fan on a budget.
CONS:
-WHY IS THERE NO SOLO MATERIAL ON THIS DISC!? Higher Love and Roll With It are masterpieces, and I can't forgive their omissions.
-The CD doesn't fill the eighty minute time limit. This means they had plenty of room to put solo material on here!
OVERALL:
This is a decent compilation, but there are sure to be better ones out there. And needless to say, better ones are probably on the way. Get this if you find it for a good price, but don't spend too much!
