Customer Reviews:
Warren Haynes other band.......2007-07-04
This is an excellent introduction to Govt Mule, if you have not heard of them before, and are looking for some quality guitar rock music. Warren Haynes leads this band, as well as stepping in for Dickie Betts in the Allman Brothers. This is not music in the same southern rock genre as the Allman Brothers, it is blues based rock.
Warren is stellar on slide guitar, the guitar work is framed within excellent song craftsmanship as well. Some of the songs run long, but this is not a jam band.
Highlights:
About to Rage is a slowburner, Slackjaw Jezebel uptempo funk rocker, as is Lola leave your light on.
This just gets better and better..........2007-01-27
Man, the more I listen to it, the more I like it! These guys can definitely rock, and their ballads are not just filler (check out "Wine and Blood" and it's sweet, cryin' guitar hooks and clever opening line..."Desiree's in disarray...") They tell stories.
This is blues-based rock with intelligent and original lyrics and unexpected and sophisticated chord changes ("Little Toy Brain.".)
Even...dare I say..a "Zepelin-esque" riff or two. Modern, yet with a big nod to late 60's/early 70's stuff; if a woman were to sing in this band, you could easily picture Janis Joplin or Dale Kranz (of Rossington Collins...damn, she rocked!) belting these out. Guitarist Warren Haynes, I believe, is the singer. And let me just say, he's no slouch in the vocal department. In fact, he's spot-on.
I've seen this tagged as "party rock" and "swamp rock." Huh? Nope. Just damn good music. You'll probably find yourself listening to this alot.
Guess I'm just not a fan.......2006-08-15
I heard great things about them but I guess I wasn't really familiar with their work - either that or this particular album just isn't for me. Then again I'm not a blues fan so maybe that's the problem. The first tune is catchy but the rest is not funked up enough for my taste.
Great Southern Jams.......2006-03-08
This is a 5 star effort all the way! What a great and fun band these Gov't Mule guys have turned out to be. Along with the always awesome rhythm section and perfect guitar we also get some great keyboards courtesy of Danny Louis.
These guys consistently create fantastic music.
hot hot hot.......2005-10-19
Warren Haynes and Matt Abts return with new players Danny Lewis and Andy Hess on keyboard and bass respectively for a rebirth of one of the most intense bands working. While I prefered the stylistic breadth of the Deep End projects, this is in my opinion the best Mule CD as a self contained unit. While the instinctive communication between Haynes and the late Alan Woody is missing, overall the band burns with a purpose.
Standouts include Bad Man Walking, Slackjaw Jezebel, Wine and Blood, Lola Leave Your Light On, Little Toy Brain, and New World Blues

Customer Reviews:
"Kingston Celebration" is a criminally neglected brilliant pop song........2006-11-10
Dread Zepplin's "Deja Voodoo" is as excellent as all other DredZep albums, and their outstanding technical proficiency in cross-genre pop music is an astonishing feat. Perhaps only musicians can really appreciate the technical skill of this crack band.
Other reviewers who are fans of Led&DredZep can comment on the covers here, all brilliant, but this review covers a single song: the unforgivably neglected "Kingston Celebration."
"Kingston Celebration" is a hauntingly beautiful original song, an evening raga and chiming ballad filled with wonderful lyrical images, haunting vocals sung straight, and backing vocals right out of Rita Marley's bench. A wonderful rhythmic base line supports a slow light percussion that allows the vocals and guitars to float gently above them, like a starry swim in a warm lagoon.
"Kingston Celebration" demonstrates an originality that few understood was part of the DZ repertoire, and in better times and with label support would have been an excellent break-out single for the band and a soft-rock staple for years. Everyone I ever play the song for always asks me "what is that song? Where can I get a copy?" Get your copy today, a real favourite with broad appeal.
Strummin' and Hummin'.......2004-06-10
When Led Zeppelin hits become almost unrecognizable, yet take on a new rhythm and melody all their own, that's musicianship, man. Having been a "Dreadhead" for years I always loved the innovative interpretation this band lends to Plant and Page's rock classics--especially from a reggae angle with an Elvis impersonator thrown in just for good measure. The result is music unlike anything you've heard before, which is Dread Zeppelin's tongue-in-cheek charm via their (relatively) recent CD, DEJA VOODOO.
This is a new mix of all the Dread Zeppelin fixtures of years gone by, only the tracks are more gloriously irreverent, while at the same time masterfully done. These dudes can flat out play and sing, as Zeppelin staples including "Whole Lotta Love," "Lemon Song," "Going to California," and "Stairway to Heaven" are recycled through a smoke-filled kaleidoscope of rhythm-and-blues sound. And "Heartbreaker" is Tortelvis at his impersonating best, while the CD even does a brief spoof of Peter Frampton and his talking guitar.
DEJA VOODOO is Dread Zeppelin at full band evolution; the reggae singing and sound is so laid-back you can practically smell hemp coming from the CD player. Like the Zeppelin band they mimic, these guys are also getting long in the tooth, but their music is still original and very unique.

Great alternative to normal Dread Zeppelin music.......2001-11-08
At first I thought this music was no good. But being a fan of Dread Zeppelin for a long time, I started to play this CD over and over and got used to the music and I enjoy it enough I chose to play this album in my car over to listening to the radio! With very few good music to listen to nowadays, this would be the album to get. It has Led Zeppelin music in ways that were never heard of before and TortElvis and the band are getting better at it with every new CD that comes out. Way to go guys!
The ownly downfall with this band is they keep doing Led Zep over and over, they should come out with something new and exciting once in awhile. But otherwise, A+ work if you like classic rock done by Dread Zeppelin!
A tough one, but grows on you.......2000-12-27
Definitely a departure for DZ. Tort Elvis is barely audible. No opportunity to do the claw. Sounds a lot like UB40 in an elevator. But then some songs are more reminiscent of NIN. Hard to even recognize the original songs.
Yet, it oddly grows on you. I just hope they don't feature it in their road show. Much prefer the original sound, but they had no where to go with it, unless they changed there name to Talking Dreads.
Ish.......2000-10-18
What a disappointment!!! I'd rate it lower if I could.
Part reggae cover, part head banger, part easy listening, no Dread Zeppelin.
While their musical talent really shows (and keeps getting better all the time), something is missing...
This is not why I buy DZ albums.
Latest and greatest??? NOT.

a masterpiece .......2006-07-23
this album is one of the best i have heard. ever. it has a sense of humor while still keeping their reputation as a new zealand rock band. they have certainly outdone themselves on this album.
It's funny to see this album on Amazon!.......2005-10-31
This is Deja Voodoo's first album. Deja Voodoo are a gonzo-metal band whose members used to be on the cult TV show 'Back of the Y.' There are quite a few swear words, and 'Feelings' is rather offensive to female listeners, but I like it anyway. It's certainly a good album to get drunk to.
