The cleverness of Fall Out Boy's lyrical content is immediately evident by looking at the song titles on their sophomore disc, From Under the Cork Tree. "A Little Less 'Sixteen Candles,' a Little More 'Touch Me,'" "I Slept with Someone in Fall Out Boy and All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me" and "Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year" are but a small taste of the group's acerbic attitude. After FOB's indie debut hit the underground charts, the group's sudden indie-style success made for a fast growth spurt. Their appeal is obvious, from frontman Patrick Stump's Killer-esque pipes (especially evidenced in the disc-closing "XO") to their very melodic teen-angst anthems. While much of the disc operates at usual punk-pop speed, the highlight comes from a slower, emotion-laden cut called "I've Got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth." This song of living in the public while working through private pain is a beautiful, multilayered number that stays with you long after the album is over. --Denise Sheppard

From Under the Cork Tree: Limited Black Clouds and Underdogs Tour Edition recaps all 13 songs from the original album plus five additional tracks, starting with three B-sides, "Snitches and Talkers Gets Stitches and Walkers," "The Music or the Misery," and "My Heart Is the Worst Kind of Weapon." There are also two exclusive remixes, "Sugar, We're Goin' Down (Patrick Stump Remix)" and "Dance, Dance (Lindbergh Palace Remix)."

5 out of 5 stars Fall out boy.......2006-10-26

I was skeptical about buying after hearing "Sugar, We're Going Down" but after hearing "A Little Less Sixteen Candles" I knew I'd like it. It's a very witty cd full different types of songs. Definately not one of those cds where all the songs sound the same. It's one of the few cds I can put in and listen to for long drives and never want to change.

A definate must have.

5 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised.......2006-08-16

As someone who is more into R and B and Latin, when my friend bought me this CD i thought it was a joke. I already knew the first single and loved it, but this was overboard. Well I was mistaken-- this CD, it's titles and it's music, is the best CD I've heard in a LONG TIME...

5 out of 5 stars Go out and get FUCT.......2006-08-13

(From Under the Cork Tree) get it? ignore everyone who complains about fall out boy being a punk posuer. fall out boy isnt punk and isnt trying to be. If you dont like snitches and talkers get stitches and walkers (and come on, think about the title for a minuite and then realize how funny it is....) you need to re-listen to the song. It's a good, darker version of fall out boy. realize that pete wentz used to be a hardcore raver with blonde dreadlocks, and used to be in a hardcore metal band called 'Arma Angelus' look it up in itunes and you'll realize why pete does the screaming. Also, can i point out that The Sex Pistols were the orignal people to 'sell out'? They were basically created to be walking adverstisments for a store called 'SEX' They were a legend but were never the 'true punks' they WERE BILLBOARDS. it pisses me off when people compare other bands to the sex pistols like that. The sex pistols were sell-outs from the begining. i think they made quite a bit of money to support their drug habits too.

the point is, BUY THE CD. Snitches and talkers is more rock/hardcore The music or the misery surprised me by being very pop, My heart is the worst weapon is slower but unlike the version on my heart is the b-side to my tongue, has drums bass etc. The sugar remix sound like windchimes, and the Dance Dance remix is very techno and makes me want to do the robot. :-)

A few points about the bad reviews sitting in here...

Master Shake shurrup you should be slapped about the room!!!

Mathew Braxmeier --- Generic Emo??? I bet you have never listened to Emo in your life man... Clueless Whiner!!! And as for a title lenght... What would you preffer? Something short n catchy for you like 'Wannabe' By the Spicegirls??? Did you buy the album or just search for sum bands you probably knew you wouldnt like so that u could moan about em???

And as for Jane Doe --- HHHMMMM there is the 'old favourite' Nirvana... WOW that would be amazing for sumbody to not like Nirvana thesedays... Granted they did write a few good songs... Heck even spawned Foo Fighters after the death but jesus samuel christ!!! Ive yet to meet sumbody thats not in love with them...

And before you sit there and say... Aw i bet he hasnt heard anything other than smells like teen spirit and come as you are... Wrong! I have every album... I just choose not to listen to them to fall under the typical Category of Anotherone who goes with the crowd...

As for Black Flag, Sex Pistols and The misfits... Wow a little bit of taste from someone who has yet to have a little bit of variation in her taste!!! Move with the times Jane... All great bands in their time just as Fall Out is a brilliant band of this time!!!

Every song just as catchy as the next with this album... Yet to hear how they can sound the same as AFI, Greenday or Panic!

Anyone who wants to whine send them my way... Im sure Jane will i noticed the only 2 reviews were complete and utter moans...

Buy this album... It is sheer genius!!!

At the same time check out these bands guys...

- Hoobastank (New album out)
- Jimmy Eat World
- Stiff Little Fingers (Amazing Punk band from late 70's still going at the moment and touring soon)
- Flogging Molly (Irish Punk)
- Three Days Grace
- American Hi-Fi (New Album)
- Yellowcard (Amazin Band)
- Papa Roach (Still Going Strong)
- Panic! At The Disco
- 3 Doors Down

1 out of 5 stars Another band that sounds the same as all the others (sucks).......2006-07-24

well the band sounds like a yellow card, simple plan, panic at the disco, all american rejects etc. ALL of the bands have the same sound and music that a person from 10-17 would buy. And you proboly saw the video before hearing the song on the radio. If your older 18 and up. you need to get in to some GOOD music. Try the ramones, the offspring, sex pistols or even green day.

One need hear only the first notes of this collection--the Edge's ringing guitar notes ushering in "Pride (In the Name of Love)"--to be taken back to 1984: Ronald Reagan and Maggie Thatcher rule the Western world, the L.A. Olympics is the top sports story, and Ms. Pac-Man reigns at arcades. In rock & roll, there's U2 growing in stature with each new tour and title. Even doubters of the Irish lads have to concede that together they formed the one '80s band with the skill and sense of scale to take over the airwaves and concert stages in a decade of diminished expectations. This 15-song '80s best-of assortment (stick around for the hidden track) spans the decade, reaching back to 1980's "I Will Follow," when Bono and company were peach-fuzzy and earnest as choirboys, and tracking their path through their most glaring misstep, 1988's overblown Rattle and Hum. The limited-edition second disc is the real treat for stalwart fans. It's laden with odds and ends, highlights of which include some spot-on covers (Patti Smith's "Dancing Barefoot," the old pop hits "Everlasting Love" and "Unchained Melody") and misplaced originals (the great '82 B-side "Trash, Trampoline, and the Party Girl"). The group's more jovial '90s recordings provide evidence that U2 shine brightly when they don't take themselves too seriously. These likable leftovers prove that was true in the '80s, too. --Steven Stolder

4 out of 5 stars The hits.......2007-05-31

Has all the hits that a casual fan needs, plus a 2nd disc with B sides which is interesting

4 out of 5 stars A greatest hits is not a best of...........2007-03-25

If you want the hits, from this era, 80-90, this is the one to get.
If you want the best, get all the other cd's ! As you know, there is some songs that didn't hit the charts but are U2 classics, like "Bullet the blue sky" for instance, you won't find it on this double cd.
So, the hits are on cd 1. The other cd is for die hard fan, just like me, who want everything realease by the band. There is some good addition like "Spanish Eyes", "Love comes Tumbling" and "Silver and Gold" in its studio version (We have this song in live version on Rattle and Hum) So, with this realease, U2 please their die hard fan with cd 2 and their "hits fans" with cd 1. Recommanded for both !

5 out of 5 stars Our story!.......2007-02-20

I love U2, because the songs and the good actions of Bono, Edge, Larry and Adam. This album tells, using an excelent musical form, something about the decade I was born and teach something that we can do to became better our lives, our world, our story: love is one of theses things! Thanks, U2! God bless you, Brothers!

5 out of 5 stars good collection.......2007-01-11

So so so so good. A lot of the amazing U2 songs. And in my opinion, U2's version of "Unchained Melody" is worth the price of the whole cd.

5 out of 5 stars Toast with Guinness (Paul or Extra Dark).......2006-10-02

U2's 'The Best of 1980-1990' may be straightforward, but that simply shows how important and successful they have been for harnessing passion. This compilation works because their singles are often their best material. The '[Limited Edition]' is worth the extra purchase because it has some essential material. (There are some weaker songs as well, but the B-sides will prevent the collection from becoming repetitious.) "Pride (In the Name of Love)," "New Year's Day," "I Will Follow," "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," and "Desire" have all rewritten the history of pop/rock music. They resonate well even today. The other allegedly lesser songs are merely great. Singles were their strongest suit, but their albums are solid and consistent as well. (Although the nineties found some uneven albums, but that should be saved for another day.) Passion is rock's hallmark, and Bono's primal singing, The Edge's inventive guitar, Adam Clayton's throbbing baselines, and Larry Mullen's athletic and idiosyncratic drumming all have come together for some of the best big rock band songs since The Beatles.

'The B-sides' are mixed, but still essential. "Three Sunrises" and "Love Comes Tumbling," both from 'Wide Awake in America' are marvelous. Then there are remakes. Their own "Silver and Gold" is a good alternate companion from the live version on 'Rattle and Hum,' but "Sweetest Thing" doesn't do that much different from the first C.D. Then, their covers are mixed. Their rendition of "Everlasting Love" (originally done soulfully by Robert Knight) is magnificent. Complete with a spirited acoustic accompaniment by the Edge, this reviewer believes it to be one of their ten best songs ever. "Unchained Melody" has decent accompaniment, but one of Bono's poorest performances. Demonstrating anguish, his voice seems to falter. There is also the spirited "Spanish Eyes," which has a good forward thrust. Similarly, the upbeat "Hallelujah Here She Comes" seems like a gospel version of a Velvet Underground song. It is spunky. The rest is novelty or below U2's par performance. "Bass Trap" is a mesmerizing and tranquil instrumental, but the rest is interesting at best and languid at worst.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent album........2007-07-12

If you like FoB, whether it be their previous record or just the singles you've heard on the radio, this album is for you. I heard Patrick (vocals) say a year or two ago that he was jealous of the album that Panic! at the Disco had written. Well, after the release of this album, it's P!atD that has reason to be jealous.

4 out of 5 stars Now leaving Happyville, all aboard..........2007-06-29

Ultimately, Each person is going to reflect and choose their reasons, but, Most people I know(spanning from girlfriend, close friends, to own Mother) have enjoyed this CD, even if they think the song This ain't a scene its an arms race, says "This ain't a city, it's a goddamn horse race." Overal The score i chose for this cd is a not a true reflection of my score. The real score i'd give it is a 4.34

I know. It sounds like an odd number, however, I have good reason for it.

To prep you, this album is much more emphasis on the rock than previous albums have. I'd describe it as prevous albums as more punk, with this being the Fallout Rock. As in it's rock but it's filled with that dark adn gloomy yet also cheerfuly sounding lyrics that make FOB just who they are.

While much of the cd is amazing(sans 2 songs) there are 3 that shine above the rest.

First is Your crashing, but your not a wave. It has that feeling of a political messege but at the same time it has this feeling like it's all jsut a joke.

Second is Thnks fr th mmrs which is catchy, dark, and classic FOB. It gives a sense of irony and a sense of FU. It should be noted that some people have objected to the song for it's gay implications that can be interpeted from the lyrics acording to several listeners, However, The song is still quite good, regardless of what a person thinks it implies, and furthermore anyone who listens to FOB should not be expecting something tame in terms of middle class, closeted white, america.

the third song is The Carpal Tunnel of Love. Filled with the classic play on words that makes FOB enjoyable to listen to and in many eyes their trademark sound, There is a feeling that comes along with this song that blows out of the water everything sans the above two.

now while much this review is my own opinion, the following is purely the reason i don't give the cd a perfect five is that i am not fond of golden and Hum hallej.

aLL in all, i consider this cd a very good purchese.

Now onto the Regular vs limited edition talk. unless your a diehard FOB fan and must own every version of each cd or just desperately need some tarot cards that say falloutboy on them and a happy cardboard case as opposed to the plastic jewel case the other version comes in, I'd say buy whichever version is cheaper.

Most certainly a buy.

5 out of 5 stars loved this album.......2007-06-11

This is the first Fall Out Boy album I've listened to & I honestly didn't expect to like it as much as I did. The songs are very enjoyable and catchy as hell.

My favorite tracks:
I've Got All This Ringing In My Ears
The (After) Life Of The Party
Bring The Doldrums
Hum Hallelujah
I'm Like A Lawyer

5 out of 5 stars A Great Way to Find a New Favorite Group.......2007-05-25

I bought this CD based on the tracks that had significant air play, "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race" and "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs." After listening to this CD for a couple weeks now, it's become one of those few I really want to play every day. Usually, new CDs I really like get played a few times the first week then only get played every few weeks after that.

Just about any of the tracks on Infinity on High could have been singles; it's a shame that more of them didn't make on the air. What's interesting about them is the differences between them. They are all Fall Out Boy tunes to be sure, but each has different arrangements and instruments - even more so than their other releases. There's just an amazing range here. It's definitely not fourteen tracks of the same stuff using different cords. After buying this one and worried I must have missed some great music, I went back and got the releases I was missing. Most people tout the debut album, which was very good, but I've got to say, this one's my favorite of them all.

5 out of 5 stars Great Cd, great sophomore album!.......2007-05-17

I love the cd, while they had quite the task of living up to their breakthrough debut album, I believe their second really delivers. Their sound changes a little, but after a few runs through the cd I can confidently say I love every track.

Sum 41's blockbuster debut, All Killer No Filler, lifted riffs from Motley Crue and the Beastie Boys to make a formidably dumb racket, but this follow-up finds the Toronto quartet reining in its spiky-haired insolence. Drawing musical inspiration from toothy metal icons Iron Maiden and Def Leppard, Does This Look Infected? is not only meatier than its predecessor, but songs like "Still Waiting," with its opening refrain of "So am I still waiting, for this world to stop hating," and "Yesterday.com" reveal social consciousness creeping in. The album is not completely deprived of the goofy skate punk that launched the band, but it provides convincing evidence that CNN has taken over from Nickelodeon as Sum 41's preferred tour bus viewing. --Aidin Vaziri

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A pretty good cd.......2007-07-05

I used to be a huge fan of Sum-41. All the way through Chuck (2004) (which I liked).

This cd was their 3rd release and was the start of the bands progression from a garage punk band to a rock band. The music itself has a more experienced feel to it.

This is probably the best overall cd I think they made (through Chuck). Although none of the songs would be in my top 10 for them, it is the only cd that I actually like every song on.

I personally though, can not continue to listen to a band that believes the President should be killed, and vocalizing this, like him or not. Im not a huge Bush fan anymore, but still...its a respect for the position thing. They just took it one step to far.

5 out of 5 stars Guitar riffs and vocals make this band stand out!.......2007-02-10

a lot of pop-punk bands claim making great music and get overexposed musically. SUM41 makes music that defies the persona of "pop-punk", this band does punk music in their own sense and fashion with great lyrics and vocals alongside with great guitar sense. with humor and potitical chants and everything else in between, every track sounds different while sounding great!

5 out of 5 stars Very well put together CD........2006-07-23

This CD is very good. Out of 12 songs, you are most likely going to like at least 10. I can only remember 2 songs that were sort of "screamo". I'm not sure what those songs are though. But it is very good CD and is a very worth buying. Songs that stuck out to me the most were : The Hell Song - one of my favorite guitars. Over My Head (Better Off Dead) - how the lyrics are sung make this song great. Still Waiting - very fast paced and neat listening to.

But what I like most about this CD is the bonus DVD. One of the funniest things I have ever saw!!! But keep out of reach of parents...It's not music videos or anything, It's just the band fooling around and screwing with people.

Very worth buying. 10/10

5 out of 5 stars Sum's Infection.......2006-06-30

The public had to wait just one year for the punk group Sum-41 to release their second Mainstream album: DOES THIS LOOK INFECTED. Sum-41 still has the constant use of distortion and at times very tiring yelling, but the guitars are better than ever. They punch out fast and yet very melodic licks. The guitars also perform their amazing in time quick rhythm changes, but with even more passing chords. The bass once again adds more to the harmony, and the drums are what keeps everything together. This time around, the vocals also progressed musicily. They perform an interesting use of counterpoint for a couple of songs. DOES THIS LOOK INFECTED is some of Sum-41's best work and shows how it helped in paving the way for more artists to state their opinion on the state of the nation in regards to 9/11. I suggest adding this punk record to your collection.

Stand out tracks include:
"The Hell Song"
"Over My Head (Better Off Dead)"
"Still Waiting"
"Mr. Amsterdam"
"Thanks For Nothing"

1 out of 5 stars In all my life, I have never experienced such a disastrous album like this!.......2006-06-06

And bassically, I think this is the worst band EVER... They're not even musicians, just a pair of vandals who decided to make a band and accidentalley got some attention from retarded teenagers with no taste for music.
I can't actually call what they do Music, the closest thing I can relate to their sound is "a peacock with a broken neck".

4 out of 5 stars am I really writing an ICP review?.......2006-01-30

But seriously, this is a pretty good CD. Insane Clown Posse are generally known amongst casual passerby to be a shock-rap act with no culture and obscene lyrics about killing and womanizing. Well, it's true, isn't it? But that's not BAD, and approached with an open mind this is a very, very entertaining album.

Like any Insane Clown Posse album, Jeckyl Brothers has its fair share of humerous toilet humor songs. On this album most of them are pulled off very well. Some highlights include "I Want My Sh*t" which is an odd, dreamy trip-hop style song with lyrics depicting an immortal man's journey through time (in which he discovers his long tongue allows him to perform cunnilingus especially well)... "B*tches", of course, is the usual comedic revenge violence track. "I Stab People" is one of my favorite humor tracks. And of course "F*** the World" managed to get on the radio with the most f-bombs dropped in a single song.

But what really makes this an album worth special attention is its serious side. One thing about Insane Clown Posse is they always manage to sneak in a few songs that are extremely intelligent and insightful as well as bitter and cynical. The crude and vulgar lyrics that make the other songs so hysterical instead make these serious songs seem that much more honest and potent.

The best example of this is the biting social commentary "Terrible", which I find to be one of ICP's best songs period. Other good serious tunes include "Assassins" and "Echo Side," both unsavory and uncomfortable perspectives on their relative subject matter (not to mention creepy tunes.) The two character tracks, Jake and Jack Jeckyl, being part of the joker's cards concept are also creepy as well as socially applicable. They cool the album off at the end with the meloncholy "Nothing's Left" which is probably one of the least controversial tracks I've heard ICP put out.

The album's weakest points are where it takes itself too seriously where it should be making fart jokes - "Play With Me" and "Mad Scientist" are both decent tunes with good socialogical observations, but they end up coming off as cheesey since the fictional stories being told obscure the good points. ICP are best at being smart when they are pissed off, and these songs are a bit weak because of their lack of ICP's trademark bile. Some other filler tracks as well which aren't really worth a mention.

This is deffinitly one of ICP's best albums, and contains many of their best songs. I wouldn't recommend it to someone expecting "real" rap or hip-hop, and I wouldn't recommend it to someone without a real generous sense of humor. But both the humor and the social commentary can be rewarding to those willing to put aside their pre-judgements based on media hype.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best albums by ICP.......2005-10-09

I first started listening to ICP with this album and I thought this was funny as hell. I played this all the time at the maintenance office where I work. Amazing Jeckel Bros. is strongly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars wow.......2005-04-03

My son, Christopher Colt Kelley, was murdered on December 21, 2001. He was 15 years old and he was a real Juggalo. He used to try and get me to play ICP cd's all the time whenever we were riding in the car together and I wouldn't listen to them. When he was murdered I took the time to sit and listen to what he was in to. I haven't stopped listening to ICP yet. I met Violent J once before Shangri-La came out and I told him all about my son. He held my hand and told me in these words that I will never forget, "You should not be sad that he is gone, you should always look at it like this, whenever it rains, that's him Raining Diamonds down on you." Then Shangri-La dropped and I heard It Rains Diamonds...and I could not stop crying. Now I am a 37 year old Juggalette and I'll be that way 'til I'm dead in the ground. My son was buried with an ICP shirt on and a Hatchetman round his neck. And I plan on going the same way. Everyone has their own thoughts about ICP and the Dark Carnival...but if you're not a true Juggalo....you'll never get it. MCL and R.I.P. Colt....we miss you.

This CD is great. I have reviewed other ICP albums too, this 1 for some reason seems to be 1 of my favorites. The best songs are another love song, f-*% the world, Mad profeesor, and nothings left. If your new to ICP, this might be a good 1 to start with!

Set aside the makeup, pyrotechnics, and coffin sales, and all that's left of "the hottest band in the world" is the music. Fortunately, in the case of for Kiss, the music is their strongest suit. This five-CD box set blends previously released recordings, demos, and unreleased live material. Rarities come in large part from the band's halcyon makeup period and include unheard songs from an assortment of demos. Among the curios are the Wicked Lester versions of "She" and "Love Her All I Can," replete with horn kicks and hand percussion. No less intriguing is the previously unreleased Destroyer-era, Slade-inspired stomper "Doncha Hesitate" and Paul Stanley's disco-influenced "God of Thunder." Other demos give insight into the band's proclivity for cannibalizing early material for portions of soon-to-be hits. Though most fans recognize the 1970s as Kiss's heyday, the 1980s material such as Creatures of the Night's "War Machine" and Asylum's "Tears Are Falling" holds up surprisingly well. The fifth CD, which consists of 1990s output, falls flat, though some sparks are rekindled with the rewrite of Argent's "God Gave Rock & Roll to You." The box includes a thick, full-color booklet with rare photos and insightful song-by-song commentary from the band. --Kelly Minnis

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Package; But more rarities are needed.........2007-06-08

This earns 5 stars for the packaging, and for the unreleased gems, "Doncha Hesitate" and "It's My Life". I've heard people complaining about the inclusion of greatest hits on here...but for the first box set, they have to do that. It has to be an overview. I just wish, again, that more demos, unreleased songs and rarities were included. The sound quality is excellent - even improved over the remasters of the late 90's. I would love to see a volume 2, and even throw in old shows from the 70's complete and cleaned up and remastered. That would be great!
Disc 5 is the worst disc here. I don't know why they put things from unplugged on here. I can't believe "Jungle" isn't on there.

5 out of 5 stars My First Purchase.......2007-01-12

It went a lot better than I had thought, a lot better !!!
I am very pleased with my purchase and would not hesitate to do it again.

4 out of 5 stars I would rather rarities, rather than same old versions........2006-09-11

This collection starts off real well with some rare recordings.
My problem is why do they constantly re-release the same old songs over and over again?
Thos Wicked Lester recordings are realy good to listen to,but probably strictly for Kiss fans only. They were trying to sound like bands who were around at that time, and hadnt developed that Kiss sound. But i enjoyed listening to them.
The rest of the 1st Cd goes into the normal album versions, with no variations, and i think that stinks.
Cd 2 starts off with re-releases from Alive 1.Then we have a few rarities, some demos.I like to hear the variations, after all i already have the album versions,so why do i need them again?
The rest of the Cd is a mixture of normal versions and demo's.
Disk 3 gets a bit more disappointing with far fewer alternate versions, 2 demo's only and one live version of Talk To Me.
Disk 4 has got 2 unreleased songs,but no demo's.
Disk 5 has a demo of domino, and 2 songs not released on Kiss albums.
Dont get me wrong this collection has some excellent Kiss songs on it.There is one hell of alot of music here.
But im a Kiss fan of almost 30 years, and i know all their songs.
For new fans this should be a real treat, but i would much rather have alot more rare recordings, demos etc.I believe there is much more out there.
I know songs like Lick It Up are great songs, but how many times do i have to have it?
I realy miss the days when we used to love getting a new album or Cd,and listening to the new songs. Also it was interesting to see how new songs would fit into the next stage show.
Those were the days my friend,i thought they would never end,but for now it seems they have.
