5 out of 5 stars James Dean attitude meets Eddie Cochran guitar!.......2001-12-20

These Kats are one of the hottest bands on Long Island and "Roadkill" captures their Rockabilly mayhem for all to hear. Gary D. plays guitar like a mean-eyed snake and Jeff "Daddy Elvis" McLary sings like he was born listening to Eddie and Elvis in his crib. Pete C. slaps his Upright like he's possessed and Mike D. is truly possessed on those skins (check out the opening to "Love Me Like A Train" or "Crazy Dream"!)The thing I like most about this CD is that it isn't at all repetitive like some bands. Roadkill has everything from loud raw rockabilly ("Misunderstood", "Pink Lincoln") to western swing ("Five Long Days") to slow blues ("Rain All Day") to psychobilly/neo-rockabilly ("Tequila and Chainsaws") to straight-ahead rock n' roll ("Love Me Like A Train"). This is a CD to buy and a band to watch!

5 out of 5 stars Michael Himself, Always In His Element.......2007-03-23

This is far superior to the other "Best of" CD Michael did, because it packs in so much of his humor (and willingness to be the butt of his own jokes). He makes friends for himself everywhere in the country, and I think it's a disgrace that every city in America doesn't have a station carrying "Whad'Ya Know".

    5 out of 5 stars IKE ROCKS.......2005-10-11

This is an awesome cd by a great band out of Philly. Great up beat power pop songs along with beautiful slower songs. Harmonies are great and it just puts a smile on your face. Highly recommended!! And if you can see these guys (and gal) live do it they have so much energy on stage.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Find!.......2005-10-07

I ordered this CD on a whim. I heard two of the songs during a scene on All My Children and just had to know who sang them. I found out thru another source and just had to get the CD. It is one of my favorites. Hope to hear more of this band. They have a great sound.

5 out of 5 stars Best rock album I have heard in years..........2004-10-28

We have followed the band for 3 years and attended over 60 shows. The cd and the band are great. One cannot go wrong buying this cd...

5 out of 5 stars DO NOT PASS GO !.......2004-09-24

There are commercial bands that live and die by the promotion and financial guidance of their labels that are talently marginal at best. We can all rattle off a dozen or so examples without thinking too hard. Then there are incredibly talented individuals that play by their own rules and continually put out well produced, well written and wonderfully performed releases just like "Parallel Universe" by IKE. John Faye who originally caught my ear when with the Caufileds and The John Faye Power Trip continues to labor away at his craft alongside of Cliff Hillis who is also no stranger to individual success. I don't offer praise very often but this group's time for recognition and commercial succees is far overdue. Do not pass go - do not collect $200 - go directly to checkout and BUY THIS CD!

    5 out of 5 stars Amazing album.......2003-03-22

I have seen IKE play all these songs live for about a year now. I was so amazed whith the songs when they finaly got put on an album. John's voice is amazing. I love the way that Cliff's and John's voices just blend together. I can say enough about this album. So far It has not left my cd player in my car. It's all that I listen to.

Ronny Elliott is simply amazing. He makes his own brand of country/folk/rock with sharp, sharp lyrics that reflect an acerbic wit. Get this. You'll listen to it over and over and over again.

5 out of 5 stars Best I've heard in Years.......2005-08-21

I first heard Ronny Elliott on The Kennedy's show on Sirius Folktown, The Dharma Cafe. I was floored. I ordered it, and think it has some of the most powerful songs I've heard in a long time. A couple of them, "No More War" and "I Don't Hear Freedom Ring Anymore" are as good as I've ever heard.

4 out of 5 stars Dancing on the kill floor.......2007-03-06

Busdriver (Regan Farquhar) is one of those rare hip-hop artists -- he has talent, creativity, and he's more interested in abstract lyrics than about more lame shooting/sex/drugs raps.

And he doesn't disappoint in his sixth album, "Roadkill Overcoat." Colourful and quirky, it is equal parts catchy hip-hop, gurgling electronics, and pop sensibilities, and veers through a string of memorable little rhythms.

"You did it/you got it/you wowed the world!/Casting agents and cowgirls/dress up, you're dressed up/to kill yourself," Busdriver says forcefully, before launching into a rapid-fire rap over a catchy little tune.

But he really blossoms in "Kill Your Employers," a tight and danceable hip-hop tune with brilliantly barbed lyrics about war, hippies and the self-righteous. "Cause smearing a salad on a SUV can't/Save the black faces at the refugee camp," he reminds us. "Riddled with neo-expressionism omitted words and arty erasure/You pass out your Green Party favor..."

He tries out a number of other colourful styles -- hazy electro-rock with hip-hop rhythms, sinuous raps, undulating hip-hop, shimmery little electro pop songs, and gloriously funky hip-hop like "(Bloody Paw on the) Kill Floor" and the swaying "Pompous Posies! Your Party's No Fun." Okay, I just wanted to mention those titles.

Though it's basically hip-hop, Busdriver weaves in lots of other music -- quirky techno, funk, blues, ambient stuff, and indiepoppy flavour. In other words, the sort of thing you'd expect from someone who collaborates with Daedalus and the Islands.

Boom Bip is responsible for a lot of the production here, along with Busdriver himself -- tight, sharp rhythms and rough beats, which shimmy along with some hazy electronic fuzz. His marshmallowy duet with Bianca Casady is probably the weakest song on here, but fortunately he gets back to the deliciously funky stuff.

Busdriver himself has a pretty nice voice -- he isn't trying to sound cool or tough, and so he does everything from a meowy whisper to a machine-gun rap. And his songs are equally atypical -- he skewers the music industry, the arty self-righteous, and other parts of modern culture. ("Cause recreational.... paranoia/Is the sport of now, so/Kill your employer!")

Busdriver is no "rapping know-it-all trying to de-politicize those big business ties," and he has talent in spades. "Roadkill Overcoat" has a couple dud songs, but Busdriver is still brilliant.
