5 out of 5 stars Cry your eyes out........2003-04-23

This is a great album. Beck really opens up and shows how mature he really is on this one. Indeed, it's a melancholy album, but it doesn't leave you feeling that way. If anything, it'll help you through feeling like [dirt]. You'll get the feeling Beck is pouring his heart out just for you to hear. Nobody else. This album is a narration for a relationship that went bad. The bonus track 'Ship In The Bottle' is really great. I'm very surprised it wasn't put on the American version because it is just so good. To put it frankly; Go buy this album immediately, even if you don't buy the import, buy 'Sea Change'.

5 out of 5 stars One After Another.......2007-02-10

I was very impressed with the quality of at least one song on each of these 4 currently available singles; There are some abstract songs here and there, but 'Maybe I Can Change' will get stuck in your head very quickly. Nice production, and packaging that looks cool, but also looks like a coaster. Don't leave it on the table with company over.

5 out of 5 stars ace single.......2006-11-10

This is a great single by an awesome band. Glad I bought it.

5 out of 5 stars awesome.......2006-11-07

these boys are the band to watch! the songs have great melodies and they really press you to listen deeper the next go around. i did not think the video did this song justice, but the song is so great, that it is more fun to close your eyes and let the music take you somewhere in your imagination.

5 out of 5 stars From .......2006-10-18

First of all, I have to say that "Crystal Ball" is awesome, and, aside from "Somewhere Only We Know", is my favorite Keane song. What makes this song so special is that it has been part of a journey that I have been on in trying to reach this person I saw on the news named Lara Roxx about a year and a half ago. It was a real sad story about how Lara grew up in a troubled family environment and wound up on the streets and eventually wandered into porn. After only 3 months in the porn business, she came down with HIV, as if this poor girl did not have enough problems already! To make matters worse, she was only 19 when she contracted the deadly virus--just starting out in life. She is still above ground and is currently residing in Montreal, trying to start a foundation to help raise money for AIDS Awareness. Well, recently, both my friend and I had the idea to try and contact Keane and send them my version of "Crystal Ball" entitled "Montreal" which deals with Lara's plight and have Keane sing "Montreal" and release it as a single and have the proceeds donated to Lara Roxx's Foundation to help her get it financed. I think Keane would really go for it as they seem to be involved in reaching out to the underdogs and those less fortunate in society. I am sure that Lara would really appreciate it as well. This is one of my ultimate dreams that I pray would come true someday soon.

If there are any other fans of Keane out there that might perhaps personally know the band and how to contact them, I would really appreciate it. Also, if there is anyone out there that personally knows Lara Roxx, I would like to know this as well. I am really serious about trying to make this happen.

[..]

Sincerely,

John

2 out of 5 stars Doesn't work for me........2006-05-04

I LOVE the Swingle Singers. The first time I heard them sing Bach back in the 60's I was driving a car and I was so blown away that I had to pull off the road. And I LOVE Irving Berlin's music; his message is simple and direct and tuneful. And therein lies the rub. To me, the jazz vocal styles, the contemporary harmonies and the whimsical utterances of the Swingle Singers go together with Irving Berlin's music like oil and water; they just don't mix. The words and melodies are those of Irving Berlin but the end result isn't Irving Berlin. Admittedly this is one man's opinion, and others might take great pleasure in the Swingle Singers' unfailing virtuosity and inventiveness. But if you anticipate the straighforward tunes and emotional directness in Berlin's music, you are apt to be disappointed.

2 out of 5 stars Single vs. Album.......2005-03-26

I got this when it came out and I recently got the album. I don't recommend these songs even if you have the whole album. I found Mission and Steel Rain to be better songs. They are more like Soundgarden than these two singles. On my computer (Pentium II) the video was 1/5th of the screen size. Any Soundgarden fan should get the whole Euphoria Morning side project instead.

5 out of 5 stars When I'm Down...............2004-05-30

Don't let Amazons review throw you off, When I'm down IS on Euphoria Morning, so unless you are a die-hard Chris Cornell fan and need to have everything that he has produced, this single is not unique in anyway, great songs but they all appear on the full studio album. It gets five stars because the album gets five stars.

3 out of 5 stars Can't Change Me Import Sinngle.......2000-08-18

The first single from Chris Cornell's solo debut "Euphoria Morning", Can't Change Me, has a strange mix of instrumentation provided by Chris' band, Eleven. Laid over the twangy blend is Chris' signature deep brooding vocals which all Soundgarden fans will appreciate. Fluttergirl is a demo version of the albums Beatle-esque second track. This version is mostly Chris and an acoustic guitar. Cornell says that this was meant to be a singers record. On special tracks like this, his voice really gets to shine. It is very much a must have for any fan of Cornells' music. Nowhere But You is one of those non-songs, simply a deep, dark, cold acoustic guitar plucking a repeated rhythm with Chris' spacy vocals somehere in the background barely heard. Theres not a lot of melody in it but quite a bit of substance. The guitar part doesn't really sound like a real song, but by the end you will find yourself nodding right along.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2001-12-07

This is a wonderful jazz album. Johanne has a gorgeous voice, and it is shown off to perfection on these songs. Her "Air Mail Special" shows how well she can scat in the Ella tradition. Excellent! Her cover of the Jobim classic "Agua De Beber" is also spectacular. The gorgeous ballads like "Angel Eyes" and the beautiful Brazilian song "The Island", have never sounded better. Every song on this album is great, and I hope we get another album from her soon.

4 out of 5 stars a welcomed jazz newcomer.......2001-05-22

Great versions of standard songs. A few surprises (the Joni Mitchell-Mingus songs) but Johanne Blouin is best when covering well-known ballads such as " Angel eyes " or" You don't know what love is". The very well-known musicians do an OK job but could have supported her more in this first jazz venture. A singer one should pay attention to.

4 out of 5 stars Great voice, classy, jazzy, sexy !.......2001-01-13

Johanne Blouin is a pop artist who turned to be a really good jazz singer. Her voice is very classy. You will love this album. There's a lot of classic songs on this album. They are really well interpreted. Her version of Agua De Beber and her version of Air Mail Special are great. She will become really popular I think. It's a good CD to put when you have a dinner with friends, her voice is relax and sweat !

Awright BFFers, if you've been looking for a good Single from the Boys, this one is it! DCYP is cut short as it is the radio edit, Army has the cuss words and is normal length. Missing the War is decent, but it sounds like Ben has a cold in it. But the coup de gracie is this: Song for the Dumped. If you have been looking for the version that they perform on stage, this one is it! It has a hilarious intro, all the way through piano scratching bass scratching and drum hitting! Check out this CD ya'll

3 out of 5 stars A disappointment coming from Jigga.......2004-04-23

Being the true Jay-Z fan that I am, I'm able to accurately judge when he is and when he isn't dropping hot music. I have nothing against commercial songs when they are done properly. Jay-Z is one of the few who can do it with class but he chose not to on this song. This track is bubble-gum pop to the fullest. "I Just Wanna Love You" was dope commercial hip-hop, "Do it Again" was dope commercial hip-hop but this isn't. The problem obviously isn't the lyrics because Jay can craft clever and witty lyrics all of the time and his flow is untouchable. The problem lies in the poppish beat. The Neptunes provide for a softy and mushy beat that only Jay-Z's female fans can enjoy. Maybe some of the younger Jay fans liked this song too. Older fans like myself can't appreciate this song. The only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 1 is because Jay does have nice flow on the song and the "What More Can I Say" b-side is hot. Jay needs to stop making singles like this. He has dope tracks on his albums but singles like this are the reason why some people perceive him as wack. Make a single for "Threat" or something because "Change Clothes" is the only track that I have to skip on the Black Album. I can't feel that song at all and I'm sure other real Jay fans agree.
