unabashed fury.......2003-02-09
what an amazing album. their last one was quite good as well, but this one is much more cohesive and tight. love lost just has a really unique way of writing hardcore songs, and it shows on here. the frantic time signatures, the inventive guitar lines...every song is just mind-blowing. i saw them in des moines last november, and these guys put every ounce of energy they have into their live show. if they ever come your way, do yourself a favor and see them.
Definitive instances of hardcore metal.......2002-08-18
There are albums which can't be placed in the boring land of compromises. There are some synaptic piece of pulsing music which is the sudden amplyfier of the worst desease you can't imagine, undressed of all that stupid depressive intentions that become the simplest way to buy kindness. Harsh, cruel, proud but even intelligent, cold and disillusioned. These are the outlines of Upon the Night I Saw a New Misery, twenty minutes of definitive catharsis, freed by any pretentious intellectualism, ideology or something similar: this is only a simple - but complete - engine builded up only to dilatate any inner desease. Nothing tries to find accomplishment here, there are only drastic cries spitted out with all the angry needed but without losing a feeble mind control. An album full of incredible degenerated hardcore metal, drawn with the certanty of whom knows his faculties. Probably one of the highest peaks of a way to mutate american hardcore.

Customer Reviews:
Beautiful and unique.......2005-12-19
I would like to compliment Alison on her beautiful playing and Dave cooke for his unique and complimentary arrangement of this album. This album brought John Field into the present age and transformed it without destroying it. I am not a clasical boffin but this has sparked my interest.
Artistic perfection.......2005-09-01
Alison Hood plays the nocturnes of Irish composer John Field with a soft, gentle perfection; never jarring or heavy, even in the most difficult pieces. The softly played whistles and pipes lend interest and an Irish touch to several of the selections. Delightful to listen to at the end of a stressful day.
still a great album.......2003-10-14
just played this lovely album after losing it for more than a year and it is still a pleasure to listen to... reminds me of some great times and of a special birthday this month... it will always be special. r
wonderful artist.......2001-01-09
i had the pleasure of meeting this artist recently, and she is just as special in real life as she is on cd. her beautiful playing is only enhanced by her personality which has made listening to this album even more of a pleasure since meeting her. her skill as a pianist is obvious on every track but really comes into its own on 'around the fairy tree', 'a love is lost but not forgotten' and, my favourite by a long way, 'o'er the moor o'er the mountains'. i will continue to listen to this album daily as i have done since last may, and enjoy the memories.
music fan from dublin.......2000-10-16
oh my god...what a lucky day for me when i read the reviews on this album and decided to check it out. this young irish pianist plays the music of field in a arranged in a unique and wonderful way by the well known composer and arranger phil coulter...i'm quite sure the classical snobs will have a "field" day with this one but i hope they have the foresight to look deeper into the beautiful playing on this album and realise that this is the perfect way to bring the music of one of irelands best kept secrets, john field, to a new audience. i look forward to the next album from alison hood. not only does she look wonderful, but she plays like an angel.

LLBNF: S/T.......2003-02-03
This CD is amazing. I'm not a big fan of techno (the last two hidden tracks) but the rest of the tracks are excellent. This CD is much better than the newer release Upon the Right, I Saw A New Misery. It is much more chaotic with much less organization. Apparently this CD sounds as such because the band recorded it about a year before it was actually released and they weren't as good at their instruments. Not quite grind but plenty of ultra-high-pitched blood curdling screams. A must have. The newer CD (UTR,ISANM) is good, but no comparison to this one.
