Customer Reviews:
This CD could be all you need..........2007-05-19
I read another review that pretty much hit the mark. If you are not real heavy into SRV, this is a great CD to have. It has all his stuff you've heard on the radio plus a few other tasty cuts. On the other hand, there are a lot of really smokin tunes that are missing from this short collection. It's like a teaser - when it's over, you'll wish there was a disc number two.
Routine roundup .......2007-04-27
Okay, if you're starting a fan off, you'd want them to hear examples of Stevie's stunning guitar. Makes sense, right? That's the guy's claim to fame, after all. And yet they miss out on a few of his best solos. Where's Rivera Paradise? Where's Lenny? Where's Things (That) I Used to Do? Wheres Ain't Gone 'n' Give Up on Love? Love Struck Baby? Testify? Wall of Denial? Let Me Love You Baby? Or, if you want a bit of acoustic SRV, how about Life By the Drop? If you're looking for just Stevie's best known songs, this does contain Texas Flood, Pride and Joy, Couldn't Stand the Weather, Cold Shot, Life Without You and the cover of Little Wing. But this was a blown opprotunity to present the definitive Stevie Ray Vaughan overview. Stick to Essential if you're a newcomer, since it contains most of this album plus most the above tracks.
Not the best "Greatest Hits" album for SRV.......2007-03-02
Was a fan for many years of this man, and was extremely devastated upon his sudden death in the mid eighties. An artist such as SRV has many great songs as well as lesser-known gems. I like the songs on this album but the bad thing is that it is not remastered. For the money you cannot go wrong, but for a little more you can get a better compilation than this one, which came out in 1995. Groovy sounds and of course the Blues mystique is what you get here. Features hits like Taxman and one of my favorites in "Couldn't stand the weather". If you can pick up the 2002 release "The Essential Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble" then that is a better purchase in my opinion. Other great songs include "Pride and Joy" and the fun rocker "The House is rockin". The best thing for this artist would be to present fans with a boxed set that included all of the singles as well as some live performances. If you are new to SRV then this is not a bad place to start.
Good, But Not Worthy of Stevie Ray Vaughn.......2007-01-10
It's a shame that such an excellent artist is so under-represented in this compilation.
Nice Compilation.......2006-10-07
Of course with any Greatest Hits compilation by any artist, people are going to fuss about songs left out and/or included. I think everyone will agree that every song on here deserves its place, though personally I think that omitting "Look at Little Sister" and "Love Struck Baby" leaves a big vacuum. Still, this CD does what it intends to do: showcases the absolutely uncanny talent of SRV. The man plays with more than just a feel for the guitar, he plays like he's channeling a higher spirit. All you have to do is take one listen to "Little Wing" where he fleshes out the Hendrix' tune, runs with it, and makes it his own.
I'd recommend this CD to someone who isn't all that familiar with SRV and wants to just jump in where the waters fine, or to anyone who wants a plum (tho compact) compilation. (Another plus is the pamphlet which gives great insight to each song by those who know.)

The real deal is that this is not so much a hits package as a hyped collection of songs that made the charts, album tracks, and rarities like Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Pipeline" duet with surf-rock king Dick Dale. (At least SRV completists no longer have to buy the God-awful Back to the Beach soundtrack.) Blending blues classics, rockers, and instrumentals was a signature of Vaughan's sets, but it doesn't work for these 16 tunes. Lesser numbers like "Empty Arms," "Shake for Me," and "Wall of Denial" seem filler between thrillers like "Telephone Song," "Scuttle Buttin'," and a version of "Leave My Girl Alone" that had been available only on a promotional CD. Remember, Vaughan's recording career lasted seven years--too short a time to merit two hits discs. Yet his guitar acrobatics and gut-deep vocal testimonials are never less than satisfying. --Ted Drozdowski

SRV Review.......2007-02-08
Well, I guess if your a real fan of SRV, then you will love this. I am new to his music, and although he is obviously an accomplished muso, it was not quite what I wanted. It has not sold me on him, but he does have a couple of good tracks. Maybe just not for me.I will not purchase any more SRV if this is representative of his work
The Real Deal: Greatest Hits 2.......2007-01-10
Very fine collection of SRV's work. Highly recommend
An awesome display..........2006-11-11
If you are a fan this is a great compilation! The last two tracks, Voodoo Chile and Life by the Drop, are worth the price of admission.
Warning! There are so many notes and cool sounds flying out of Voodoo Chile that you may be injured. Enjoy!
Best introductory SRV.......2006-10-06
If you are new to SRV and looking for a great sample of his best work, this is the album for you. Selections are among the most intense blues ever to burn from SRV's guitar. The recording quality is top notch - including the live cuts.
Blues Done Right.......2005-12-07
Stevie Ray Vaughan was getting better by the year, never playing the same song quite the same way twice. He was the best of his kind.King of texas blues.Mr.Vaughan came to a tragic ending in a plane crash after fighting a life threatning drug addiction.Such an abrupt end for such an amazing person.
Two greatist hits were then released. This is Vol.2 you'd assume to get lackluster songs not quite as big as the glowing presence of Vol.1.If that is what you're guessing you're off(WAY OFF).Overall i think this is a much better interpratation of Mr.Vaughans true capabilities."Scuttle Buttin'" is a fast and short song resulting in an almost Van Halen "Eruption" solo feeling.Stevies accesability to make a song his own shows in a Jimi Hendrix song"Voodoo Chile"(later shown in 2001's "Black Hawk Down")as he did with The Beatles "Taxman" on the first vol..
Mr.Vaughans vocals are raspy and low and energetic. If you ever seen him live you'd know how much soul he poured into each performance. His beat up guitar is a trade mark. You will be able to hear this aura in the live tracks like "Shake For Me" and "Superstation".A crowd favorite "Lenny" is on the album, but not live.
Sixteen of Mr.Vaughans amazing songs shine hear and is worth more then what is asked for.

Fabulous Thunderbirds-Hot Stuff:Greatest Hits.......2007-07-06
This is a great album! This has all of their great hits.I highly recommend this album!
Really three-and-a-half out of four on my scale, but..........2006-01-05
Kim Wilson solo is even better! I saw him at a
blues club by the Virginia Beach oceanfront ten
years ago. He interacted well with the crowd and
slapped me five when he came into audience. But
'Fabulous' Thunderbirds is a stretch. Good or
better than Avg. would be sufficient!
Great Rock N' Roll!.......2005-10-22
The Fabulous Thunderbirds are what real Rock n' Roll is all about! This is a really good compilation, it hits all the high spots and is a joy to listen to. The sound is very good and everything about this compilation is just great. If you love good Rock, you need this!
Wonderful Collection Of Late T-Birds.......2005-08-22
HOT STUFF: THE GREATEST HITS is a wonderful collection of the Fabulous Thunderbirds' later material, which combined their Texas R&B with a Memphis funk style to create a blend which succeeded in crossing over to rock radio. You should buy this anthology and the first four CDs first to start your Fabulous Thunderbirds collection.
T-BIRDS ARE PLAYING AT MY PROM!!!!.......2005-02-01
What I just found out today was some of the best news I have ever heard. The T-birds are playing at my prom! This will be the best night of my lifee!!

Younger and longer-haired than most Nashville groups to precede them, Little Texas cranked up the guitars behind a sound that otherwise closely followed the polished pop country of Alabama and Restless Heart. A stinging slide guide introduces the bouncy ditty "God Blessed Texas," for instance. More typical is "Some Guys Have All the Love," "Amy's Back in Austin," and "First Time for Everything," which stack sing-along harmonies on top of accessible, easy-to-follow melodies. Largely a singles band, most fans will find all the Little Texas they need on this 12-song collection, which gathers the hits from the previous three albums. After one more studio effort, the six-member band called it quits. --Michael McCall
Customer Reviews:
Great Music.......2007-07-16
The greatest hits CD from Little Texas is great. The love songs "My Love", "You And Forever And Me", "I'd Rather Miss You", and "What Might Have Been" are good slow dance songs. You kick up your heels a little on "Kick A Little" and "God Blessed Texas". They do an awsome job on The Eagles "Peaceful Easy Feeling". "Life Goes On" is a song about moving on after a break up. All in all Little Texas has great music.
little texas.......2006-11-07
Great it was delivered in a timely manner and in good condition. thanks
great group great album.......2006-11-04
Little Texas was one of the best groups of the 1990s. How fitting it is that this is a great album too. "Life Goes on," "Amy's Back in Austin," "What Might Have Been," "You and Forever and Me," "God Blessed Texas," and "Some Guys have all the love" are just some of the wonderful songs found on this terrific collection of songs. I miss these guys terribly, but this album takes me back. Any fan of Little Texas will find plenty to enjoy on this album.
Contemporary Country Hit Machine's Best.......2005-02-19
While Little Texas may never be considered a huge influence on any major country artists, you cannot deny the power of their music to be infectious and easy to listen to. They travelled the well-worn trails blazed by groups like Restless Heart and Sawyer Brown. They knew which songs to record to ensure popular status.
The signature song on this album, "What Might Have Been," is definitely their biggest hit and the easiest to recognize. There are other well-known tunes here, like "Kick A Little," "My Love," and "First Time For Everything." All of these songs have some pretty strong staying power. Lesser hits like "I'd Rather Miss You" and "Amy's Back In Austin" are also included here.
The biggest surprise on this disc is their cover of "Peaceful, Easy Feeling" from the "Common Threads" tribute album to the Eagles. It sounds really great. Little Texas excels at covering tunes by established artists. Pick up "Come Together," the Beatles tribute, to get another taste of Little Texas' cover tunes. They cover "Help!" and it is possibly the best song on that album outside of "We Can Work It Out," by Phil Keaggy and PFR.
This album is definitely a great choice for folks who may not have enjoyed all of Little Texas' songs, but still have a couple of favorites. It essentially gives you their best songs and their most popular ones, which is what a greatest hits compilation should be.
Simply The Best, Dude!!!!! :o).......2004-03-28
When I first heard 'What Might Have Been', it was on the radio, wayback when (aaah, the good old days). Anyhoo, I called the radio station to ask who that was. My first taste of Little Texas, it was waycool dudes! I've not ever listened to Country music, before. To me, they had their own sound. Up until now, I've purchased most of their cd's. I also have their Greatest Hits on VHS, man that in itself was the ultimate, it was. I haven't seen their videos on tv, so it was totally awesome! I do recommend this particular cd, very much. Aloha from Hawaii, :o)

Bobby Bland's uptown, brass-and-strings-drenched blues kept him on the charts long after gut-bucket kings such as Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters had dropped from black-radio airwaves. The artistic successes chronicled on this second volume of his greatest hits shouldn't come as a surprise, then, despite the frequent input of ultracommercial producer Steve Barri, who'd crafted AM hits for acts as diverse as the Grass Roots and the post-Motown Four Tops. Even with some accommodations to trends (the disco beat of "The Soul of a Man," chicken-scratching guitars here, there, and everywhere), Bland kept on being Bland, cutting country songs ("Today I Started Loving You Again") and blues standards ("Goin' Down Slow") and investing Dan Penn's "I Hate You" with a unique pungency. This disc performs a valuable service in lifting the veil from an often-overlooked period in the career of one of American music's most important interpretive singers. --Rickey Wright

SRV CD for the car........2007-05-17
I own many SRV CDs but needed this one to have in my car at all times. Some of his best music is on this CD and it is great to have it handy on one CD. If you own a collection of SRV music this is not really needed unless you want a travel CD like I do. I find it necessary to have one. I mourn for him every time I play this CD and find it difficult to accept the fact that we will never hear the music we could have had if he had not left us so young. And I am grateful for the the music he did leave for us to enjoy.

worth money.......2007-05-24
this cd set is definately worth the money spent. i haven't heard some of the music before but was willing to give it a try.
Great Patriotic Music.......2007-02-21
Beautiful music perfect for feeling patriotic. Received CD promptly and in great condition.
A good choice of tunes with good quality.......2005-06-30
If you like military tunes and marches, this 2-CD is a good choice. The orchestration is good, it is well played and the quality of recording is good. If you like this kind of music, it is a good choice to buy.
Brilliant!!!.......2003-08-11
I have the CD at home and the songs sound fabulous. I've heard the Houston Symphony's version of the Star Spangled Banner many times on TV as this anthem has been used at sign-off (when this was happening). It's as powerful a version you'll hear. Probably the finest patriotic music CD you can find out there.
Best Patriotic Music I've Found.......2001-09-20
Loved the CD! I am buying it to use with a Musical Freestyle Ride for a Quadrille. A horse oriented endeaver. The music will be perfect to bring positive patriotism to fairs and fund raisers for NYC.

Great.......2005-10-24
Texas are fantastic, their best being Summer Son!
BUT, ignore what the post below mine says. I Don't Want A Lover never made #1, its actually not one of their most successful hits. The highest position they achieved was #3 with Say What You Want
The blend between guitars and Sharleen Spiteri.......2005-10-17
Really amazing guitars match with incredible honeyed voice of Sharleen Spiteri, in this CD's "TEXAS ... The Greatest Hits".
I haven't found any titles to put in my trash, and I definitely love this 1980's group.
A daily staple.......2005-10-09
Poor Texas.
Cursed by terrible marketing in the US (Texas who?), not to mention a name that gets lumped in with everything from country music, the State, or the University. Honestly, why this band isn't wildly popular over here is downright criminal, although it's shamefully kind of nice to keep things quiet.
I find myself listening just about daily to this CD. In fact, the days need to be longer, so I could listen to it more. True, there is nothing from the underappreciated Mother's Heaven; and I think I could live without the Method Man and the RZA version of "Say What you Want".
Still, it's so rare to not really review a CD by individual songs (although I do think the rerecording of "So Called Friend" works better than the original version; and I find myself mashing the replay button on the superb version of Al Green's "Tired of Being Alone"). Things flow gracefully from one song to the next. You could basically pick any point in the CD, jump backwards or forwards and find yourself drawn into the music; different styles, different sounds, yet so very Texas.
An absolute pleasure.
Great Glaswegians.......2005-04-08
Fronted by Sharleen Spiteri, Texas were formed in Glasgow in 1986 by Johnny McElhone. McElhone was no stranger to the UK charts, having previously played bass with Hipsway and Altered Images.
Texas' Greatest Hits collection contains 18 tracks and looks back over the band's releases between 1989 and 2000. The album's first track, "I Don't Want A Lover", was the band's first hit. It features a distinctively catchy slide guitar riff and is still one of my favourite songs by the band. The second track, however, was one of the songs recorded especially for this album; "In Demand" is a mellow affair that charted well on its release in the UK and is one that I just can't help liking. However, it's another of the 'new' recordings - the lazily titled "Guitar Song" - that makes it as my favourite song on the album. Featuring a sample of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin's hit "Je T'aime...Moi Non Plus", it's catchy, laid back and relaxing. (It also has me reaching for the repeat button quite a bit).
The hits from "White on Blonde" are obviously included - "Black Eyed Boy", "Insane", "Halo" and "Say What You Want" were the songs that saw the band return to the charts after a long absence. ("Black Eyed Boy" - which, I am reliably informed, had distinct Motown influences - was my favourite of the four). The CD also finishes off with a remixed version of "Say What You Want", which features Method Man from the Wu-Tang Clan. For me, it's the album's only real weakness - the original version is much better and the remix wouldn't be a reliable introduction to the band.
Three songs from "The Hush" - the album that followed "White on Blonde" - are also included. They also charted well, though I prefer the chime-tastic "Summer Son" and "When We Are Together" to "In Our Lifetime". Three songs from their third album, "Rick's Road", have also been included. However, for some reason, the excellent "So Called Friend", "So In Love With You" and the Al Green cover "Tired of Being Alone" have all been re-recorded for this release. I was a little disappointed that nothing at all from their second album, "Mother's Heaven", made the cut.
Still, if you've liked anything at all the band has released, this is an album you should pick up. Recommended.
Very much in demand...Loves it........2004-11-28
This is one of my favorite albums of *all* time. It has the very best selection of Texas' songs. All their hits are on this album: "Inner Smile", "Once in Our Lifetime", "Say What You Want", "In Demand", all songs that are so great they're included in movies over and over again.
I love that these songs are virtually timeless. I can listen to this every single day and not get tired of it.
The very last song is one of my favorites on this cd, it's a duo with Method Man of "Say What You Want", great song.
This is a must have.

GPN is what I like about Texas.......2006-02-13
What a great collection of GPN tunes. Being a displaced Texan living far from home in the Mid-South, this GPN cd takes me home. Gary is one of, if not the best song writer in Texas, maybe even the USA. You get your monies worth with 18 cuts. Every GPN cd tells a story and this cd is no exception. I think it is one of his best.
What I like about Texas.......2005-09-09
Love it! Have it in my car and everyone wants to know what cd it is. They want one. The Rocking Chair song brings up old memories.
Something To Listen To With An Ice Cold Lone Star.......2003-06-27
I originally bought this album for one song,"London Homesick Blues/Home with the Armadillo," and was I surprised! This is a great album to listen to while you're sitting on the porch in the afternoon, just drinking a few brews(preferably Lone Star, 'cause, obviously, this is an album about Texas). I'm not from Texas, but I grew up watching Austin City Limits and Mr. Nunn's famed "London Homesick Blues" always played during the credits, making me wish I were in Abilene with the "friendliest people and the prettiest women you've ever seen." After you hear this album, you too, will want to hop over the Sabine, head for Amarillo, and drink away the blues.

Bobby Bland's purr-to-a-scream vocals quickly made him an R&B star in an era when rougher-hewn blues masters such as Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf had fallen from the charts. Bland, a former valet for B.B. King, established himself with both up-tempo workouts ("Farther Up the Road," "I Pity the Fool") and devastatingly subtle ballad readings ("I'll Take Care of You," "Stormy Monday Blues"). Greatest Hits, Vol. One is a generous sampling of the discs that made him a steady seller throughout the '60s. A second CD chronicles his work in the '70s after Duke Records, his longtime label, was sold to ABC. --Rickey Wright
Customer Reviews:
--.......2004-01-26
Along with Joe Turner, Jimmy Rushing and Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Bobby Bland was a rarity in the legacy of classic blues singers in that he was a singer who didn't play an instrument. However, unlike Turner, Rushing and Hawkins, Bland didn't come out of the jump/big-band tradition where such a dynamic was more commonplace.
The songs on this disc are not Bland's earliest recordings, but they are early, spanning 1957-1969 with an emphasis on the years 1960-1962, and they're his best and most seminal recordings. Not only that but the compilation comes at such a bargain price that even those unfamiliar with Bland would do well to pick it up.
Bland and his music, under the direction of bandleader Joe Scott, had a decided showbiz bent due to Scott and his orchestra that made generous use of horns as well as the usual guitar, bass and drums. The greatness of Bland was that his genuine and soulful stylings transcended the 'sweetening' agents of his accompaniment. That's not a knock on Scott and his orchestra though, for Bland's sound anticipated what came to be known as soul music in the '60s. Bland, well-groomed and dressed in a three-piece fronting an orchestra is something that really does it for me image-wise. He wasn't one of those other blues singers like John Lee Hooker who looked like a street musician thrown on a stage. Some would see Bland in a lesser light or less genuine than someone like Hooker because of his show and orchestra but that's b.s. Half those 'serious' blues musicians were just mailing it in and living on an image anyway, and these days they all are.
Included in this compilation is 'Farther Up the Road', Bland's first hit, later made more famous by Eric Clapton. On 'Cry, Cry, Cry' and 'That Did It' Bland loses his mind to a pleasing effect. The Brook Benton-penned 'I'll Take Care Of You' utilizes a haunting, spooky organ overdub that works as a nice wild-card element and 'Yield Not To Temptation' includes a manic hand-clapping beat and female backing vocals.
Great music, great price - what are you waiting for?
a great talent.......2000-01-24
Bobby blue Bland has always had the goods.this disc showcases his talent.i've also enjoyed the stuff that he has done with B.B.King.a good solid disc.his vocal style is one of a kind.
