I enjoy the Swingle Singers very much but sadly, in this album they are flat on about half of the tracks. When they are on key, they are very, very good. When they are flat they are awful. Recommendation: buy a different Swingle Singers CD.

If you love Bach and are a fan of the Swingle Singers, buy this CD. Fans of the Swingle Singers enjoy them for what they do to music - release it with air and bounce - and their style is perfectly suited for Bach. I couldn't enjoy it more. But the second Cd in this set is their treatment of Mozart, and, for me, it's inconsistent. This is due to the different styles of the two composers and I just think they match up better with Bach. But at this price, I shouldn't be complaining. The first CD alone is worth twice as much. Snatch it up!

If you know the Swingle Singers, you may expect jazzed-up Bach with a rhythm section. Now, don't get me wrong, i like that stuff, too, but that is just clean fun, while this is just Bach. No percussion, no jazzy rythym, just straight unaccompanied Bach. AND IT IS WONDERFUL.
Precise rhythm, clear vocal lines, everything you expect from the Swingles without the jazz. This is a really great album that should be bought by all Swingle lovers and all Bach lovers.
P.S. i bought this cd when it first came out,so I have never even heard the Mozart. With all due deference to fans of the worthy Wolfgang, i have always found the artful Amadeus rather a bore, so I will remain silent about that part of the album. No matter. The Bach alone is worth twice the price, so enjoy. And, hey, the Mozart is a nice bonus.

The pairing of Missing Persons with The Motels on a greatest hits-type album was an interesting and astute choice. Though the groups have similarities in style and sound, there are also noticeable differences.

Missing Persons' "Destination Unknown" is a classic pop song, and even shines amid all the other hits and great songs on this "Back to Back" compilation. With syrupy vocals, an overtly pop sound and a surprisingly philosophical outlook, the song is a true 1980s gem that still sounds great and relevant. Missing Persons' lyrics are great; tunes like "Walking in L.A.," "Words" and "Windows" cut to the core and leave little room for misinterpretation. "Words" especially carries a lot of weight; it's a space-age sounding song with a theme of total isolation and being ignored in the great big wide world -- and in one's own relationship with someone else. The Missing Persons boast an otherwordly look and sound, and this song truly captures that essence -- new age and punk all at once. They're a tight band that practically bleed a 1980s aura, but you can't deny the fact that they write good songs. MPs' lead singer seems world-weary and street smart, while her message in "Give" is as generous and non self-involved as rock stars get.

The Motels have a slightly different focus. A little less sexy and more organic than Missing Persons, The Motels are nonetheless sonically playful at times, with lyrics that can be just as forlorn as what Missing Persons write. "Only the Lonely" and "Suddenly Last Summer" -- the band's two biggest hits -- could strike a nerve with anybody; they truly sound lonely. The Motels lead singer probably has a better, more natural voice than the woman in Missing Persons, and she brings a bit more soul to the table. Interestingly, her themes of isolation in a cruel world don't stray far from The Missing Persons' mantra. Though the last two Motels songs on this album are not well known, they are nonetheless great.

It's hard to pick who's better between the two bands; maybe there is no better. I prefer Missing Persons just slightly, but overall these are two classic groups from the '80s that beat out a majority of today's lesser pop bands.

I initially bought this CD just for The Motels' "Only the Lonely", but the entire album soon grew on me being on inveterate fan of 80's music. For the low price of this double hits album, you really can't go wrong for you buck!

      If only she had been blessed with hit-producers, undoubtedly Betty Johnson would have remained on the charts for years, instead of the nine records that made BILLBOARD'S Top 100 between 1956 and 1959.

      An absolutely perfect pitch and refreshing sound of purity. Every would-be singer should study these vocals.

      This Voume 2 contains a great many "standards" and it is wonderful listening. What a talent!

      I have been looking for a cd that contains Betty's hits for a long time.
      Amazon was the first site that was able to deliver the disc. Very happy with it.

      Volume one of Betty Johnson's Hits was a considerable disappointment on many fronts. One would have hoped that some of the shortcomings of that piece would have been corrected here in the subsequent "hits" package. No such luck. And to label this a "hits" package is just plain misleading. No additional hits here at all with the exception of the inclusion of "Dream", a track that was listed but not included on the volume one CD. Again, sound quality is mediocre and obviously not taken from high-generation tapes. Unfortunately, for those seeking the music of this artist, there are no other options currently available. Johnson's contribution was a notable element of the music of the 50s and deserves much better treatment than that given here.

          The group michael shanker is one of the best groups in the history of rock. the songs in the album "Back To Back Hits ~ Robin Trower, Michael Schenker " has some of the rest songs of MSG, like "Doctor, Doctor ," and "Anytime." its no doubt that the combination of "Michael Schenker" and "Robin Trower " is excellient and no doubt that thew album is excellient.

          Experience pleasant and enjoyable a capella realizations of Bach preludes, fugues, chorale and instrumental numbers. The Swingle Singers render some as vocal transcriptions of Bach's original, instrumental music, and others as jazz arrangements. Their hymn-like rendition of Ein Feiste Burg (A Mighty Fortress) bounces into a light and jazzy scatting of "Organ Fugue from Fantasia and Fugue." They perform 21 excerpts from Bach, none of which are too obtrusive for background music, yet all are excellent enough to listen to while doing nothing but enjoying the music.

          Bach was a technical genius, and the Swingle Singers have the talent and creativity to bring his music alive, translating it into new idioms successfully. Worth every chord of five stars.

          In the late 60's the Swingle Singers used to be a new advent. An inovative exercise on J.S.Bach. Now, revisited, there's a great pleasure to rear again the famous Badinerie and many other inspiring tunes like the Air on G string and the rarelly recorded Luther "Ein Feste Burg". The singers are much "Swingle" and the late harmonies comes alive. The arrangements are quite fresh although a bit diferent on the bass. At the end we find oursefs "swinging and marking". A recording to be listened on and on.

          The Swingle Singers have been around for a while, but I think they are just hitting their stride with this release. They do an incredible job of interpreting Bach, and not just the pieces written for voice! This is a fresh, charming and, sometimes amusing, interpretation of Bach's work. I particularly enjoyed "Air on a G string" and "Little Organ Fugue."

          The Bach cd impressed me so much, I've just ordered their Mozart offering..."Acapella Amadeus."
