Customer Reviews:
this is the greatest album........2005-07-20
if you love true synth 80's rock, you will love this album. it is magnetic fieldsish, but that isnt a bad thing. they do a very very good job. theres not very many bands out there nowadays that keep this mellow feel throughout albums. i have much respect for this band!
breathtaking.......2003-09-24
Arguably the only way to convince someone else of the greatness of any given work is to first establish context and credibility. Well guess what, neither of us have time for that. I'll settle for telling you that this could easily be my favorite album of all time. It is, without question, my most listened to. Chelsea 27099 is a short collection of living, breathing, glowing bedroom synth-pop gems. Musically, their borrow heavily from The Magnetic Fields' early work (Holiday, House Of Tomorrow). The vocals are still in the lower register but breathier and ethereal, more detached and not at all "in your face" like those of Stephin Merritt. Each song is built on soft, warm electronic beats and synth hooks. "Philosophy or Forgetfulness" stands out from the rest with its Eight Miles High jangly guitar intro.
Nothing since its release a few years ago has touched it. It's as delicate as Yo La Tengo's And Then Nothing..., and has the sheer electronic brilliance of The Notwist. Essential listening for any Magnetic Fields fan and highly recommended if you like New Order - Substance.

I was lucky enough to hear this album in its entirety on my local college station. It is the type of music that makes you listen until they announce the artist, and if they don't, you call to find out who it is. I bought it immediately and have listed to it regularly for months. This is a brilliant album. Check it out!
!!!THE FINEST SOUNDS YOU COULD HAVE HEARD IN 2000!!!.......2001-05-06
Why no member (or extended member) of the Amazon family has yet to comment on this album is puzzling. I am almost led to believe that the greatness of it is already known and an endorsement in customer review format would somehow undo this secret language. But I'll forget that for a moment and concentrate on the link players and curiously random folks who found there way here somehow yet remain undecided as to its purchase. I can only point out that your hesistation is just putting off owning essential listening material. This is one gem that will keep you squinting and grinning for many listens. Buy it!
