Product Description
Rating - 8 (out of 10)

John Tumminello may not be a household name right now like McCartney or Lennon but this fine effort will "Eventually" get under your skin like it did mine and remind you of some of the pop gems the Fab Four churned out during their heyday. Industry folks looking for new and fresh talent should have a serious look at this artist.

Tumminello has a strong pop-rock sensibility and he plays and sings intuitively, making his music and lyrics so enjoyable and addicting that you have no choice but to submit to those often-ignored pleasure zones in your brain.

All of this music is radio ready pop tunes that will bring forth thoughts of long summer days and the warm breezes of youth. Sweet as those thoughts may be this man finds himself in a huge pool of artists trying to carve the very same niche for themselves in the world of Indie music. So what separates this guy from the pack? He primarily he has great music to offer, but his experience and knowledge of the business will help to take him to the next level. With all this happening you would think being successful is a sure thing…nothing is a sure thing in the music business. One thing you can count on is that this man has a good head start.

Emotive and well thought lyrics to say the least, not lyrical content that is senseless babbling, it's all heartfelt emotion set to highly energetic power pop. It will set your senses reeling and coming back for more. My hunger for music with substance and depth is satisfied temporarily listening to albums like this, although I find it necessary to reach back and draw from the well frequently, hence playing a CD like this five or six times within a few days is commonplace. Yes indeed, you will not feel that you are a "Half a Mile from Happiness" while listening to this music. This is a strong set of songs with above average production qualities.

Everyone needs a little poetry in his or her life to make each day more meaningful, let John Tumminello personally deliver his music to your heart, you will "Eventually" find your way home.

Admittedly, Eventually is as tentative a collection of songs as its title indicates. Yes, Westerberg is mostly satisfied keeping house and watching the rabbits in his backyard. Yes, he's pleased to report he's "given the world the slip." And, yes, the least convincing songs here are the full-on rockers, while one of the most affecting is "Good Day," a winsome piano ballad that is Westerberg's "The Way We Were." Better still is "Hide N Seekin'," a song haunted by the Rock & Roll Ghost Westerberg sang of in 1989. In this incarnation, it's hard to tell if the apparition quivering in the shadows is the Replacements' late lead guitarist Bob Stinson, or Paul himself. --Steven Stolder

5 out of 5 stars Enough Already!!!!.......2005-06-04

This is probably the best album I've heard from Paul since 1987's "Pleased To Meet Me". I mean "Pleased To Meet Me" was a chockful album of jukebox songs, and I mean all of them. This was just like that. Paul after going through alcohol rehab, and then the suicide of Tommy Stintson it was a way of battling demons, and he did so with this album. There is a few songs out of place, but they are all beautiful. "Angel Song" is a hauntingly beautiful piece, "Love Untold" is a rather good unrequited love song, and yet the guy never tells the girl he has feelings for her. A little personal for me as I've done many a "Love Untold" in my life. There's also "Had It With You" this probably is in the right place, but I feel that if you wanted to end your album as a rocker put this at the end, "MamaDaddy Did" a interesting piece where a child looks at the difficulty of raising a child, and decides he wants no part of it; believe me there was a time when I didn't think I'd want a child either, but this was a very long time ago about 14-15 years old; I now have a son of almost 4, and he's a delight to have, so some people can change. "Hide and Seek" I loved playing that game, but remember all who love to play "It's only a game." Don't make it a part of your life where you don't let people see what you can become. I mean that wholeheartedly. This is an album of self-reflection, and it's told rather well.

3 out of 5 stars not all that bad.......2004-09-25

I'm a big Paul fan and I have to say that this is probably his most underrated album. Sure, it's got some crap on it (Hide N' Seekin', Trumpet Clip) but it also has two of his best solo tunes, MamaDaddy Did and Angels Walk. These two songs are sad, beautiful, forgotten classics. The rest of the album isn't quite up to par with those two songs but it's solid at best and agreeable at worst. This one's relatively cheap and worth checking out if you're a Paul fan.

4 out of 5 stars Eventually satisfactually.......2002-06-30

Having acquired a taste for the Replacements only in their later days (Don't Tell A Soul and All Shook Down)in which their songs were better written and better played and better produced, I like tremendously Eventually (and 14 Songs). Eventually follows the more mellow/musical leanings of the two previously mentioned Rep.'s cd's. Still guitar driven, but better sounding guitar driven. This is the music of a maturing songwriter/musician that puts together catchy, yet rough edged, songs. There are some rough songs here (like You've had it with you) but the trend is towards more mellow songcraft, and it works.....Eventually you will return to this cd time and again.

3 out of 5 stars Half-Baked But Still Worth Tasting.......2002-04-10

Unfortunately, half of this record consists of shameless and grossly inferior re-treadings of Paul's past work (You've Had It With You = Down Love, Ain't Got Me = Mannequin Shop), along with some folkier yet uninteresting songs (Once Around the Weekend, These Are the Days) and embarrassing forays into piano-based material (Time Flies Tomorrow, Good Day...yeah, that's right, Good Day. I don't care who the song was written for or about--...[it's outright horrible]. Even more unfortunate is the fact that Paul felt compelled to continue this terrible formula on the majority of Eventually's follow-up, Suicaine Gratifaction.

Still, the remaining six songs include some of Westerberg's best despite what you may have heard. For instance, the album's rockers (Century, Trumpet Clip) are excellent even by Mats standards--hooky, raucous, sarcastic & fun. Love Untold and Angels Walk are the quality heart-string-tuggers that you expect from Paul. The former, a sympathetic call to those whom love has eluded, breaks your heart with sadness. The latter, an ode to childhood innocence, breaks your heart with happiness. They truly are Westerberg at his finest.

That leaves us with two of Paul's few coming-of-age type songs that actually live up to their critical praise, Hide N Seekin and Mamadaddydid. With the first, it's quite obvious that Paul's singing about himself and his alcoholism, which is haunting enough, but I can't help but think that he's singing it to the ghost of Bob as well, letting him know he's battling the same demons. Mamadaddydid smacks of irony in its repetitive distinction between having and raising children. Yet the irony and the song's Buddy Holly-esque feel keep it cleverly aloof of the actual issue--whether or not he's ready to be a father.

So, if you're a Paul fan, buy the disc, burn these 6 tracks
onto your best of mix, and pray to God that Paul's new record is a return to form. If you're not a Paul fan yet, I suggest you pick up some Mats records first and get this somewhere down the road. Eventually, if you will.

4 out of 5 stars It's not your older sister's Paul Westerberg.......2001-10-21

It's tempting to compare unfavorably this album (along with other Westerberg's less than raunchy solo work) to the Replacements at their prime. It's also a little bit unfair. Any artist should be allowed to grow up and move beyond their initial influences and early chemical dependencies.

One of the marks of the better Replacements' albums was a commitment to a particular type of sound that ran througout the album and served as a skeleton for the work, like "Let it Be"'s distant guitar or "Pleased to Meet Me"'s crunchy, stilted guitar sound. Unlike "14 Songs", which I liked, but was somewhat schizophrenic in its sound, this album commits to a sound and sticks to it. Perhaps Westerberg learned to split up these musical urges later on when he put out his rockers on the "Grandpaboy" EP and then his balladry on "Suicane Gratification". While I haven't yet purchased the former, the latter is served well by the consistent theme.

Most of the songs are well-crafted, and avoid the cheap and obvious hooks of a lot of what gets put on the radio. "Love Untold", the one single from this album, has a subtlety that's not on radio very often. But maybe the most rewarding aspect of this album is for long-time Replacements fans. The song "Good Day" might, without the context, just otherwise be an ordinary quarter-note ballad, with lyrics that on the surface might seem trite --

"A good day/doesn't have to be a Friday/doesn't need to be a birthday/the next one maybe you won't survive/sing along, "Hold my life".../A good day/is any day that you're alive"

-- references both a line from a song from the Replacements album "Tim" and addresses the untimely death of Bob Stinson (whose last work with the band was done on that album).

Maybe the introspection of the album is most meaningful to those who have followed Westerberg through the years, and appreciate that there is an older, wiser singer-songwriter around to perform, rather than a rock casualty in the grave. And in the end, I think the rock world will end up better off for it.

5 out of 5 stars Will Leave You In Tears.......2003-01-31

This is what comes after Michael Plaster's first masterpiece, "Eating the Sea". In my opinion, "Everyone Will Eventually Leave You" is certainly just as good, if not better. Plaster's music has matured and is more varied than his previous effort. The lyrics are much more direct, and less bogged down with cloudy metaphors, initially leaving the listener with a more intimate feeling. "Everyone Will Eventually Leave You" is as depressing as its title, even though the overall sound is not quite as impenetrably dark. (This is mostly due to the improved recording quality, though.) Basically, this is perfectly executed dark ambient sadcore, definitely not for the faint of heart, but rather for the extremely heartbroken. Michael Plaster's blend of guitars, ethereal synth string pads, subtle electronics, and tearful vocals will leave you lost forever in another world.

5 out of 5 stars ........1998-06-25

the full title of the record is "everyone will eventually leave you", and this is defintiely a downer, but a beautiful one. picking up where "eating the sea" left off, michael's music has definitely grown since the days of ethereal dirges like "unhittable". michael's vocals cascade around his beautiful electronics.. an excellent sophomore effort.

This a beautiful album by a singer- songwriter who has been overlooked. His sometimes clever and always intelligent lyrics fit masterfully with the music. This guy deserves to Make it. Check out a film made about this unique talent directed and produced by award winning documentary film maker, Chris Sautter at sautterfilms.com.

4 out of 5 stars So Glad He Made It (the CD)!.......2004-06-16

Roger Salloom has a powerful voice and easy sense of catchy tunes and lyrics. I especially loved "In the Snow"... it reminds me of childhood's quirky adventures. You can hear some music at his self-named website. I saw him open for Steve Forbert at a small show, and he has certainly made it. I'm glad!

This album is a slight departure for Life in General. The covers of these great 60's tunes sound even better than the originals. "If you only had the time" is not only a great song, but a remake of a Nova Local song, which is Jason's dad's band. A must for any LIG fan. 5 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Introduction to Joan of Arc.......2006-07-28

Eventually, All at Once will leave first-time listeners puzzled as to how this pleasant drone-folk outfit could be so polarizing. Tim Kinsella's guitar lines recall Richard Buckner's subtly entrancing progressions, and his vocals are unwaveringly easygoing, even when the finger-picked backdrops become gently oblique. Scattered percussion and countermelodic strums complement the casually concise program.
