Album Description

"Hip Hip Hooray" is appropriate for children from infancy through 2nd grade. While much of the music was inspired by children with special needs, the songs are appropriate for children of all ability levels. This album encourages interaction between parent and child, and addresses develpomental areas such as motor, sensory, and communication skills.

My children (ages 3 & 5) received this CD as a gift last Christmas. It is by far our favorite recording of children's songs. We play it often and find ourselves singing the songs all the time. We love to sing "Going to the beach" on our way to enjoy the sand and surf.

My 1-yr old received this CD as a "party favor" at her friend's birthday party. We have listened to it every day since Saturday!! I find myself singing at work songs like, "Go Go Go" and "Howdy Partner"- I feel like a little kid again!

The fun, infectious songs on this CD instantly got my 1-year-old clapping and bopping along. I have Sandra Boynton's "Philadelphia Chickens," Raffi's greatest hits, a WXPN family-friendly CD, the "For the Kids" CD and even the "Sesame Street" compilation set, but my daughter never really responded to any of them. I was so pleased to see her clap, dance and squeal with delight when she first heard this CD. It's a must on all car trips!

Do you dread listening to kids songs? I have hated most of them for years...until this C.D. which has restored my sanity. Well done Becky Degan for putting together a most interesting and inspiring collection of songs for young children!

A wonderfully cheerful CD!!! I play it for our granddaughters, aged 3 and aged 18 months...they LOVE it! The 3 year old was singing along the second time I played it, and the 18 month old loves to dance to the catchy tunes! I find myself singing the tunes....even when the granddaughters aren't here! I would highly recommend this CD for anyone with young children!

Along with O.P.P. and Jamboree, Hip Hop Hooray (from their '93 LP 19 Naughty III) is one of Naughty By Nature's most recognizable (and highest selling) singles ever. I think we all know about this song and it's cultural impact (NBA games, TV commercials, Video games, etc...). Also included is the instrumental (with ad libs and the chorus included) and the extended mix (I use this one heavily when I do old school gigs).

The anti-sellout anthem The Hood Comes First is another track from their 1993 release 19 Naughty III. The production is handled, again, by Kay Gee. The sound is dark and lot less pop than Hip Hop Hooray, but it shows Naughty's versatility. This track also comes with an instrumental version.

Treach is one of the best rappers to come out of the 90's and this was one of the best songs to come out of the 90's. That should be reason enough to get this if you don't have it already. Both songs are definitely dope. Besides, with Treach and Vin Rock on the mic and Kay Gee on the boards, you can't go wrong. Highly recommended.

          4 out of 5 stars Mixed Bag - Plus!.......2005-03-12

          This album is practically the same as the Troggs' fourth European album "Mixed Bag", which was originally released on Page One in 1968.

          The "Mixed Bag" title was probably chosen as only 4 tracks were specifically recorded for the album. The other tracks were recent singles A's and B's.

          Of the 4 new songs Reg Presley's two contributions "We Waited For Someone" and "Purple Shades" are very good. I especially like the first.

          Guitarist Chris Britton wrote and sang the rocker "Heads or Tails" which does not not really sound like a Troggs song. "Off the Record" is the Troggs fooling in the studio and not really a song.

          Of the singles the two Reg Presley ballads "You Can Cry if You Want to" and "Little Girl" are standouts and among the very best Troggs 1960's recordings.

          The Britton B-sides "Say Darling" and "Maybe the Madman" are quite charming.

          Ronnie Bond's ballad "There's Something About You" ( sung by himself ); sound like something that could have been recorded by the Walker Brothers or the Merseybeats. Quite nice, but not really Troggs music.


          No less than 11 bonus tracks; all singles released from 1970-1973.

          During the early 1970's the Troggs were less high-profiled and their sound became gradually more and more mainstreamed, though Presley still was their prime song-writer.

          Of these singles the heavy "Feels Like a Woman" is really good.

          The ballad "Listen to Man" somehow lacks the charm of their 1960's ballads, and appears too sentimental for my taste. Another ballad is "Queen of Sorrow" which works much better.

          Except for the vocals, "Strange Movies" almost sounds like late T.Rex. Another heavy track.

          After some of these heavy tracks, the commercial Reg Presley solo-single "'S Down to You Marianne" is quite uplifting.

          If you like the Troggs, there is plenty to go for here!
