1 out of 5 stars sorry but this is a travesty.......2001-11-06

oh my god. OH MY GOD. this is bad. i mean really bad. i must say that i passionately love ministry, it is one of my all time favorite bands. but this is so... desecrating. there were only 4 artists i knew before the purchase of this album (namely meg lee chin, pig -actually a great band-, julian beeston (ex nitzer ebb) and hate dept. -not too bad either-). even if those four artists put out some good work the stuff they covered here is BAD. "scarecrow" by meg lee chin loses all of it's genious depressive drive, "effigy" by hate dept. is totally siruppy. "just like you" by pig is also pretty mediocre i expected more from such a great band. actually every song is bad. but those 3 are still (mark my words) the best. "burning inside" is a VERY BAD song. the original comes close to beeing one of my fave songs but this... a woman singing it to a pseudo-industrial alternative pop music. waaaah. also the track selection is bad, most of the stuff is from pre '88. avoid this if you are a ministry fan or if you just like good music.

4 out of 5 stars Not Bad.......2000-03-24

This album has some over dramatic reworks, but it's the ones with a sense of humor I enjoy, like the TRS-80 cover of Everyday is Halloween. I don't understand the cover of Lay Lady Lay though. Anyone who takes Ministry seriously should pick up With Sympathy, that's all I have to say.

5 out of 5 stars Wish you were queer: A Ministrty tribute album.......2000-03-11

This is what a real tribute albulm should sound like. They take Ministry's songs and rework them, bastardizeing them so that they are new and fresh sounding. They are NOT hardcore guitar driven versions but electronic masterpieces by some of the underground music scenes best. Meg Lee Chin's version of Scarecrow is the highlight on the album. This is the future of industrial music. They could have gotten lame bands to make reproductions of Ministry songs but where is the fun in that. Grow up and join the year 2000, these bands are here to stay. If you are looking for Ministry covers just listen to your old Ministry records. If you want something new check out this awesome tribute album.

2 out of 5 stars Don't Waste The Cash.......2000-02-19

Tribute albums usually tend to offer 3 or 4 good covers, and a bunch of lousy ones. Well, this is no exception. Meg Lee Chin's cover of Scarecrow is fine, Pig's cover of Just Like You is surprisingly mediocre (well, even geniuses have bad days I guess), and the Hate Dept. cover of Effigy is a tad too overdramatic. These are the best of the lot, though Everyday Is Halloween still bounces as it should, though this track (as well as most of the others) suffer from unfortunately self-conscious production, a problem which has reared its ugly head too often in the genre.

1 out of 5 stars Good god, RECALL THIS ALBUM AT ONCE!.......1999-09-29

All you need to know about this tribute album is that some idiot covered Lay Lady Lay. Jesus, people, if you're gonna pay tribute to Ministry, try remaking songs that they actually WROTE! Horrible. Unoriginal sound makes this album sound like it's an insult rather than a tribute.

Great CD its got a great remix of Just One Fix, and Jesus Built My hotrod is ok. The only problem with it is that it's lost the hard in-your-face beat that the original hotrod's had. Other than that it's a perfect CD for ministry fans 5 stars

2 out of 5 stars Some things make ya wonder.......2004-01-25

Let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of Ministry since I first heard Revolting Cocks. Ministry has changed quite a bit over the years. I've got several Ministry tributes (Meg Lee Chin going Scarecrow on diff tribute is still one of the best covers I've ever heard) and so I bought this one. It's all metal bands trying to do Ministry, but really kind of sucks. These bands should be doing Slayer covers, not Ministry. They all lack the electronic wizardry to do anything like Ministry, so they try with grind-core, metal guitars and double bass drums.
I would not have bought if I had heard it first. But if you like heavy-metal, you might like this tribute.

    5 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!.......2001-11-19

    I love this tribute!

Nocturne - Scarecrow - Great song, awesome cover. done really good

Phobic - TV II - Petty good song, good cover cept it didnt live up to as much speed as original

American Head Charge - Filth Pig - Its an OK cover but What the f... is a "NU" metal band doing on Dwell's awesome record label?

Pain Corporation - Psalm 69 - Awesome cover! just as dark and good as original

Diesel Machine - Supermanic Soul - This is an awesome song and definately a great cover.one of my favs

Hostile Intent - N.W.O. - perfect! Hostile Intent has a really cool sound. they just do, its rad

Scary German Guy - Stigmata - Great! Almost exactly like the original.Captured Al's screams perfectly

Exmortis - Breathe - Really good song. Aweosme death metal cover

Chapter 23 - Gameshow - Good COver, but at the end why the hip hop nonsense. hip hop or any rap just plagues the ears of all metalheads

Disarray - Just One Fix - Great song. such a bad a.. cover! it rulz! Grindcore vocals are great

Turning Of The Gears - Thieves - my fav song by ministry, and my fav cover on this cd. they capture everything, the speed, intensity, everything.

Juror 13 - Burning Inside - One of ministry's greatest songs. we are not let down, awesome cover and good way to end a cd

buy this if u love ministry and want an awesome tribute with some tracks consisting of death metal vocals

5 out of 5 stars A CD To GET To SUPPORT THE AHC.......2001-07-17

AHC is the best band on this cd. theirs no doubt about that that the newest signees to american recordings are the best on this cd. trepanation, their indy release is 20000000 times better than that cover. thats their only cover that they have ever done. LOOK for War of Art to drop july 28 2001

1 out of 5 stars a desecration of the Ministry name.......2001-04-24

After hearing (and liking) tribute albums dedicated to NIN and Skinny Puppy, I foolishly shelled out for this, thinking "It's Ministry--where could they possibly go wrong?" Well, "Devilswork" somehow manages to take (most of) the band's good songs and dumb them down to the dregs of sub-Godsmack death-metal rubbish. A few covers from "The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste" ('Thieves,' 'Burning Inside,' 'Breathe') are acceptable, but still long shadows of their original selves. But for the few GOOD moments on this album, there are a lot of grating desecrations of songs, namely 'TV II' and 'The Game Show' (done in the vein of 'hey yo' Limp D1cksh1t). With any luck, the bands featured on this album will remain just as unknown for the rest of their 'careers' as they are now.

note: there are at least 2 other Ministry tribute albums available on Invisible (and maybe Cleopatra), and are most likely better than this.

1 out of 5 stars Piece of garbage cd.......2000-09-21

This is an absolute waste of money. It is actually worse than the last Ministry album. A bunch of no name, no talent, death metal bands put a hack job on great music. I threw it out of the window of my car.
