Product Description
The tracks which comprise Disc 1 and the first 10 tracks of Disc 2 were recorded live in London in 1965 & 1966, and feature the classic Big Roll Band line-up: Zoot (voc/kbds), Paul Williams (voc/bass gtr), Herbie Goins (voc), Andy Summers (gtr), Colin Allen (drums), Nick Newall (sax/flute), Johnny Almond (sax) & Geoff Condon (trumpet). Disc 2 is augmented by a number of solo Zoot Money recordings from 1972 (tracks 11-16), plus four live cuts from the 1995 Alexis Korner Memorial Concert, which find Zoot in similar form to his mid-60's heyday. Backing him on these latter sides are Colin Hodgkinson, Ray Warleigh, Alan Skidmore and Tim Franks. Castle Music. 2005.

Customer Reviews:
The Best of Swing.......2004-05-30
Big Time Operator, a very popular San Diego swing band of the late 90s, was among the best of the best. Those of us who had the pleasure of hearing them in person found their big band jazz to be very exciting, nostalgic and even inspiring. Big Time Operator was honored to have been chosen by Frank Sinatra's wife to be the featured band at the Las Vegas tribute held shortly after Frank's death. At their peak popularity, their venues were from coast to coast, from Disney World to Disneyland. On the "High Altitude Swing" album, songs like Lunsford Special are resurrected from relative obscurity, and brought back to life so well that it makes you want to immediately get up and dance. Big Time Operator recorded a second and even better album entitled "The Game." It did not receive nationwide distribution as "High Altitude Swing" did. If you can find either album, buy it. Regrettably, the band's star began to fade in about 2001, along with the "swing revival." This band is sorely missed by many jazz fans across the U.S. today. We will wait with anticipation for the day they cut a "reunion" album. Bring it on!
Warren makes me sooo excited.......2003-10-10
when i heard this album it made me tingle. The sound is great and Warren sounds soooo sexy
Hot Swing Group.......2000-09-02
This group from San Diego was unknown to me when I first heard them live in Phoenix, AZ over a year ago. They have a very tight sound and are very well rounded in their music - unlike many swing/retro groups around whose music all sounds the same. Their brass section is hot! I was very pleased to see that their CD captured at least some of the dynamics of this group. This is own of my favorite swing CD's and a "must have" in any swing/retro collection.
Yawn...........2000-06-03
This album just didn't click for me. I like Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Indigo Swing, and some Squirrel Nut Zippers.
On this album, the playing seems mechanical and not inspired.
Hot Hot Hot!.......1999-12-01
There is no question that High Altitude Swing is the best of the neo-swing CD's. As a swing dance instructor who has demonstrated lindy hop all over the world, I rely on BTO's smooth style and super-great sound. Any fan of 40's era big band music will undoubtedly love this CD. The brass section is incredible, the percussion establishes very danceable rhythyms, and best of all is Warren's velvet voice... Enjoy!

Customer Reviews:
Could Be Better.......2003-01-29
This CD has a number of great songs from Lavay Smith and Bill Elliot, as well as other up-and-coming swing bands. However, it could be a lot better than it is. The cover of One Hand In My Pocket made me sick... Alanis Morrisette just doesn't transfer to swing. The mixes of classic swing songs like Jump, Jive and Wail and Blue Skies just don't do the originals (or quality Brian Setzer remakes, in JJ&W's case) justice. This is a good CD to buy if you're looking to experience a variety of new bands, but don't buy it if you're simply looking for a decent version of the classics this CD boasts.
a must listen to cd. it will make you Jump Jive An' Wail.......1999-10-05
My favorite song on the whole thing is Jump Jive An Wail I have that song stuck in my head the day!
There's Some Great Bands On This CD!.......1999-08-13
I got this CD for a graduation present and absolutely loved some of the songs!! Some of my favorites are "Caldonia" which has a great tenor and bari sax solo, "Mildred Won't You Behave", and "Blue Skies" which is a kind-of laid-back carefree song. You have to buy the CD to see for yourself though. You won't regret it!!
Looking for a CD to start your collection-HERE YOU GO.......1999-02-22
This compilation features some of the excellent swingers of today like Royal Crown Revue, Indigo Swing, and Lavay Smith, as well as up and coming acts like the Dino Martini's. If you're looking to start a collection, but are unsure of who to get, start with this one--it's a sound investment and I DIG IT. (I should know--I'm a DJ on a college radio station. My show features swing music). 2 of my Favorite tracks: Bill Elliott Swing Orch- Mildred won't you behave, and One hand in my pocket-Dino Martinis
Good Big Band Sound.......1999-02-03
I listened to most of this CD while in a music store. What I liked about it is that it incorporates the many facets of the Big Band era -- not just the typical swing that has been inundating us lately. I've listened to swing music since I was born (my father grew up in the Big Band era) and this reminds me a lot of what he had me listening to. The Sing, Sing, Sing remake is good, but nothing beats Benny Goodman's version. All-in-all, this is a great mix of sound. A lot of fun!
