About the Artist
1. The new CD "Guinea Pigs" is Saul's second full-length release on the 20/20 Music label.
2. Saul picked up his first instrument, the guitar, at age five inspired by his older brother Joel's collection of Beatles, The Who and Black Sabbath LP's. He later grew to become a proficient bassist, guitarist, keyboardist and vocalist.
3. He produced and recorded the bulk of his sophomore album in his own professional studio, which has mushroomed to comprise the entire first floor of his New York home. Many other indie acts have been recording and mixing their albums there as well.
4. Saul also worked with producers/engineers Peter Moshay at A-Pawling Studio (Mariah Carey, Fishbone, Hall and Oats) and Peter Denenberg at Acme studios (Spin Doctors, Martin Sexton, Deep Purple) on the "Guinea Pigs" CD.
5. A prolific writer, Saul's archive of recorded songs numbers by now in the hundreds. In '99 he inked his first major publishing deal with MCA. In ‘03 he signed a deal with transition music who has been placing saul's songs in film and television .
6. Saul signed his first indie deal with the generally capable independent label TVT Records in 1999. He now releases his music on the 20/20 Music label.
7. Saul and the band recently returned from a West Coast road trip on which he was the opening act for Joan Osborne. Saul has also recently been part of the International Pop Overthrow festival, North by North east and the Millennium Music Conference.
8. The new album's opening track, "Bette" is about a particular lonely guy's romance with an inflatable doll. A promotional video for the track is in the editing stage and will soon be available.
9. The song "Fool On A Bicycle" (track #2 on "Guinea Pigs") was born of the madness of our post 9/11 reality. Some argue it's a song that wouldn't be out of place on a Cheap Trick album. This song earned saul 3rd place in the billboard world songwriting contest out of thousands submitted. It also was a winner in the John Lennon Song contest.
10. "Joel's Song" (track # 5 on "Guinea Pigs") is about Saul's Zonana's brother who left this world for a better place, at the all too young age of 39.
11. Saul has performed as part of Ace Freley's band, and produced tracks for him as well. His lengthy list of writing and production credits includes a Blue Oyster Cult remix of "Don't Fear The Reaper", tracks by Taylor Dane, and a Paula Cole radio remixes. He's co-written and produced an entire album with Nicole McKenna which has been released on the label 20/20 Music. Nicole's prior release was also produced by Saul.
12. Saul's new release is available from Amazon.com, CdBaby.com, SaulZonana.com, and better independent retailers nationally. It has been featured nationally in several publications including features in performing songwriter and Amplifier magazines. He is currently working on a new cd due to be released in stores in October '03.
13. The band will be performing extensively in support of the new release. The band consists of Cameron Greider (guitar,), Tom Hammer (keyboards), Whynot (bass), Dave Johnson (drums). They're a group of accomplished musicians who record and perform with Saul Zonana all across this great country of ours.
14. Wiser for having been through the big budget major recording deal, Saul's passion is purely reaching people with his music. With this in mind, we humbly present with this audition copy for review.
