Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The classic Maynard album.......2007-05-16

As this album influenced my jazz tastes through junior high and high school, and into college, I spent countless hours listening to these tunes. Through 30-plus years, I've worn out three of the original albums and at least six tapes before this CD was released. To sit with headphones on and listen to the live atmosphere from Jimmy's takes me to the days of live concerts where high school and collegiate jazzers would sit in awe of the Master's stratospheric work, and the interaction of the musicians. All of the charts are outstanding, including the classic McArthur Park. Nice and Juicy is a fun chart, the Fox Hunt just kicks and Got the Spirit is the perfect closing for a great set.
Perhaps the best words for this album were uttered by Maynard himself as the band played "Blue Birdland" at the conclusion of the album: "I hope we get one hell of an album out of this."
You surely did, Mr. Ferguson, you surely did.

5 out of 5 stars Maynard Ferguson - Live at Jimmy's.......2007-05-12

This is Maynard's greatest live album and possibly his best album period.

5 out of 5 stars Pilates4me.......2007-04-13

This is such an incredible cd. I feel it's one of his best. I've been waiting for a long time for it to be put on cd and so happy that it finally has been. Worth every penny! I listened to the record(aging myself!) growing up and could listen to this everyday for the rest of my life! Got the Spirit is a song that inspired me to play the sax! There's none better than it!

5 out of 5 stars Finally!.......2007-04-11

My records (yeah, remember those?) were stored for a couple of decades, so I was thrilled to unpack them 2 years ago. The first ones out of the box were MF Horn 4&5. It was a fantastic experience and brought tears to my eyes, even through the crackles, pops and distortion caused by what was probably thousands of playings.

Going through my collection, I found this set was THE most worn out of ALL the MF recordings I had (Chameleon, MF2, etc) which says alot about the quality of the recording, the music selection and my preference for live vs studio.

I was really excited to learn this was coming out on CD so I could finally hear a clean version. After waiting an extra couple of weeks beyond the initial promised shipping date, then another 2 weeks of being away from home, I finally got my hands on it yesterday. Whoohooo! It played all day yesterday in my office and on the way home from work.

I agree wholeheartedly with the other reviews, that this is a recording for the ages and would even suggest that, from a layman's point of view, if you have room for 1 MF album, this is the one. He gives Teo Macera credit for recording it ON THE STREET IN A MOBILE VAN, for cryin' out loud, so the quality of the sound is even more amazing. This was no over-miked, multi-take recording with the applause superimposed, but a "you are there" snapshot of a master at work with one of the tightest and most talented bands he ever had backing him up.

I was fortunate to go to the tribute concert held after his death last year in St Louis where alumni from his band rotated through (soon to be on DVD- don't miss that one!). Many of the musicians on this album were there and THAT will be one I watch for.

In life, all we ultimately leave behind is our legacy and he left one of love, teaching and incredible but humble talent.

RIP Maynard, they broke the mold after they made you.

5 out of 5 stars At last, this epic perfomance is on CD........2007-04-09

I wholeheartily concur with the other reviewers. This is Maynard Ferguson and his band at their best. After listening to the CD, I'm even more impressed with the recording quality of this live album. It is a better than most of the live jazz recordings made today -- more than thirty years
later.

I've had the original record since it came out when I was in high school.
Maynard and his band were a huge influence on my friends and me. Several
of my classmates went on to be professional horn players. For me, Maynard
helped spark a lifelong appreciation of jazz and particulary big bands.

Sidenote: What became of Bruce Johnston? I think his bari solos on this
recording are some of my favorites of all time.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!!.......2007-05-14

I bought this for my husband but fell in love with it myself. I had never heard of it but now consider Edvard Grieg my favorite composer. It is magnificent.

5 out of 5 stars Relaxes your mind........2005-12-30

The peer gynt suite is very delicate and it relaxes me. Whenever I hear the first movement of Peer Gynt, I feel as if I am walking along the forest at dawn with sunshine passing through the tall trees. It calms me and I usually close my eyes to imagine Grieg's creative masterpiece. What also interests me the fourth movement. It starts with slow and quiet and then slowly the music accelerates with power. Like the title, "Mountain King," says itself, you can feel the grandness of the music toward the end.

The piano concerto in a minor is my favorite. This music seem to convey the full spectrum from quiet and delicate or gracious feel of music to more powerful and magnificent all proportionally adequately. It is very enjoyable. Whenever I listen to this music, I feel as if I am resting in the high mountainn looking at the full panorama. Anyway, that's just my imagination I feel from his music and of course, yours can be very different from mine.

As for the CD quality, I hear no distraction sound and it is recorded well, I think. The little cover booklet can be informative about Grieg. Also nice price from Amazon.

4 out of 5 stars Relaxing music from a great composer.......2005-08-02

I absolutely loved the string music on Track 3. I remembered it from an old PC RPG called Quest for Glory IV. I was disappointed to find out that Track 4 was only a minute and a half long, because I grew up loving that song from the various places I heard it (Fantasia and a kid Detective PC game from the late 80's).
Overall, though, Grieg's greatest hits is a must-have for collectors of classical music. Grieg is revered as Norway's greatest composer of all time and he certainly has a knack for creating imagery of bustling fjords and majestic mountainsides with interlaced river ravines.

5 out of 5 stars Better than just an introduction.......2004-04-28

This CD goes beyond just introducing Grieg. It is a truly beautiful and for me, invaluable collection of this excellent composer. Grieg had an inimitable gift for exploring emotion, often sadness and nostalgia. However, he also had a large touch of the virtuoso, as demonstrated by the famous Piano Concerto. True, the last 2 movements are not included here; however, the first is still stunning. The Peer Gynt Suites are wonderfully played, and Ase's Death and Heartwounds are especially noteworthy - the lush orchestral sounds of these gorgeous pieces unfold exquisitely. Homage March is a nice change of pace, upbeat and with a memorable theme, and Leonard Bernstein moves at a devilish pace in March of the Trolls. This CD will not disappoint you - buy it today!

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2002-01-29

For an intro to Greig, this is great. The "hall of the mountain king" is done very well.

5 out of 5 stars Sooner or Later.......2007-07-07

This album came out when mu husband had died. I do so wish he had lived to hear some of this music he would have loved it too.
The feelings and emotions in this album truely spoke to my experience as a young widow.
I was in Yonkers when this was being filmed. I had the chance to be at the shopping mall when that scene was filmed. To this day I still can feel all the emotion and thrill in the air that was there that day when Rex was perfoming Better than It's ever been before live.
If you have the opportunity to see him perform live-- take it!!! It is the chance of a lifetime to see a performer of Rex's calibur. He treats his audiance like they truly matter. Not many modern performers take the time to get to know their fan base like he does. Take the chance to meet and greet Rex you will not be disappointed!!!

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Love Story With Great Music!.......2007-06-20

This is a great cd to go along with a great movie for young and old. Jessie talking to her grandma is a great part of the movie. Jessie's Theme is the best song on the soundtrack. Buy this cd you'll love it!

Nice to have the album finally released on CD. Great album and movie from the '70's. Hearing the songs again brings back a lot of memories.

5 out of 5 stars I love this soundtrack.......2006-12-07

I loved this movie as a young girl and love the soundtrack as well. But to this day, I'm still upset that the soundtrack doesn't include the song "Shades of Blue." The song that is played when Michael breaks up with Jessie. The song is perfect for those scenes while she's crying. Though it does have a happy ending! :)

Both of these albums cracked the top 100 on the Billboard charts when originally released.

4 out of 5 stars OOOHHH OLD TIMES.......2007-05-14

VERY GOOD CD ONE CANNOT STOP TO HAVE THIS MEMORY LEAVING IN UNDOUBTEDLY IT IS ONE OF THE BEST IN THEIR I GENERATE AND COMPONENT OF THE BAND THE CARS

3 out of 5 stars Nostalgia.......2007-05-13

If you are a die hard Cars fan you will want to have this cd. Although this solo effort by Benjamin Orr does not come close to any of the Cars albums, the song "Stay the Night" is almost worth the price of the entire collection. Also, the fact that this has never been available on cd format before and may not be in the future makes it worth having if you are a nostalgic cars fan. Most of the songs are quite predictable and unimaginative. If you are a big eighties fan of new wave you may like it.

4 out of 5 stars Great to hear Ben Orr Solo.......2007-04-23

Im only 25 and really enjoy this CD. I bought it because I was getting back into listening to the Cars (last time was when I was 6 in the UK) and I wanted to listen to more of Ben Orr's voice. This is a great album and the slow ballads are just awesome, makes you feel like your in a 80's romantic flick, very cruisey and sexy. The track 'When your gone' sounds a little like an 80's Cliff Richard, which is good! The first track 'Too Hot to Stop' is very cool, I didnt expect to hear such a popish and rockish song from Orr...if you can watch the video for it on Yahoo, its very funny (Ben looks confined in his Flash Gordan leather). My favourite track is the single 'Stay the Night', I really enjoy everything about it. I cant provide a very good description, but if your a fan of Orr's voice, the Cars, 80's synth etc etc, get this.

4 out of 5 stars Finally Re-Released.......2007-03-06

I bought this CD on eBay for $50 a few years ago. It was only released once on CD many years ago and has been long out-of-print. I'm very happy to see it re-released as it really is a great album. I had it on vinyl years ago, and it was a must-buy on CD... it just wasn't available! If you like the Cars, you'll love this album. Stay The Night was the hit single, and it's still stuck in my head after all these years.

5 out of 5 stars Cars Fan? Buy This Now........2007-02-02

I love this album and even bought an extra vinal copy just in case because it was nowhere to be found. Now it's remastered and on CD. Rejoice! If you think you have all the Cars albums, you don't really until you get this one.

Amazon.com essential recording

Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn of Everything but the Girl have done their share of style-hopping, from jazz pop to Britpop to orchestral pop to contemporary R&B to jazzy R&B. Their seventh album, 1996's Walking Wounded, finds the duo landing, good as new, onto the dance floor with a batch of songs based around techno-derived beats. The shift toward electronics may seem extreme for a group that courted adult audiences, but given the huge success of their 1994 beat-driven remix single "Missing" and their fruitful collaborations on Massive Attack's breakthrough trip-hop record Protection, the rewards of embracing club sounds had already been well proven. Everything but the Girl's music has always focused on Thorn's lush, soulful voice--a tribute to its versatility, it weathered well through all the group's stylistic incarnations. Walking Wounded, however, introduces a second focal point in the insanely attractive, intricately sculpted beats of the jungle offshoot drum & bass. On cuts like "Before Today," "Single," and the title track, the interaction of a beat's minutely detailed rhythms and a voice that rides smoothly over the top makes for an elegant symbiosis. And even with the help of progressive dance specialists like Howie B. and Spring Heel Jack, Everything but the Girl retains a maturity that shouldn't alienate old fans. --Roni Sarig

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Stands the test of time.......2007-03-09

I originally bought this CD when it first came out and instantly fell in love with it. It dissapeared from my collection about 5 years ago and I have missed it since. I recently just purchased the album again and am very happy to see that the songs are just as charming and enchanting as they were 10 years ago. While drum and bass has faded into musical obscurity, the album does not fall into the trap of sounding dated. A timeless wonderfully enjoyable album from start to finish. Mirrorball and The Heart Remains a Child are true delights on the ears.
To resort to an cliche, if I were trapped on a desert island this would, without question, be on my list of must have albums.

5 out of 5 stars wonderful.......2006-11-16

I am a huge everything but the girl fan...I have all of their albums and I have to say that this is one of their best...not one song on here is bad...I also have to say that you can't go wrong buying any of their albums...

5 out of 5 stars One of the best records of the 1990's.......2006-10-09

This is one of the best albums of the 1990's. If you thought major labels couldn't put out creditable artistry then you were wrong. After EBTG's massive reinvention as a cutting edge dance music act "walking wounded" finds the duo at the full helm of this new direction. Not since New Order had I heard electronic dance music this human and this senstitive. At the peek of the dance/electronica 90's explosion, when bold and adventurous sub-genres were mutating like viruses and the human had fully re-taken the machine along came Everything But the Girl. Here they add even more soulful, existential, thoughful lyrics about love, loss, and urban life. And underneath lies a breathtaking arrangement of truely cutting edge and even avantgarde electronic dance music. A total classic.

5 out of 5 stars What a voice!.......2006-09-27

Tracey Thorn simultaneously melts and heals the heart--a singular and unique talent achieved by relatively few singers. In tone and timbre, her voice strongly recalls former Fleetwood Mac stalwart Christie McVie, but Thorn's is far more emotionally-driven. She and her partner, Ben Watts, craft the kind of songs that effortlessly weave in and out of the often complex ironies of life and love, large and small. The beats that drive and thunder through "Walking Wounded" are at times so insistent that they suggest irregular heart palpitations. "Wrong" willfully echoes their huge pop/dance club hit "Missing." Elsewhere, Thorn's melancholic affect belies the cockiness of "Before today." "Good Cop, Bad Cop" and "Single" agonize over the merits of companionship versus independence. And, best of all, "Mirrorball" ponders--and then essentially reconciles--missed possibilities. As one of EBTG's best efforts, "Walking Wounded" effectively showcases Tracey Thorn's devastatingly beautiful voice, which pricks the heart and soothes the mind.

5 out of 5 stars sad and amazing.......2006-05-09

it's very hard to make songs so personal resonate for others. tracy thorn does. the score and the beats in back of her voice are stunning in their restraint. best cut from this album? pssh, pick any one. it's wonderful all the way through.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful!.......2007-04-24

I've owned this CD for several years now, and it definitely remains on my short, short list of favorites! The music is beautiful and contemplative, drawing the listener into the journey of migration undertaken by the birds who inspired it. Everything is amazing on it: the writing, the instrumentation, the vocals. This albumn is definitely not just for fans of the movie, but for anyone who loves slow, calming, thoughtful music.

4 out of 5 stars Winged Migration CD.......2007-02-08

Awesome, for the most part- best after watching the documentary. A couple of songs had to skip through, but the rest is a good post movie mental review- watch the movie first...

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Soundtrack.......2007-01-06

I loved this movie and the soundtrack makes it ever better. I havent bought a CD in a while and this one is reasonably priced and rare.

5 out of 5 stars WINGED MIGRATION.......2006-08-29

The movie is excellent. The scenery is breathtaking, but you actually feel like you are flying with the geese. Geese are amazing birds. A must see.

5 out of 5 stars THE RIGHT MUSIC FOR THE RIGHT MOVIE.......2006-06-22

Even if you haven't seen the beautiful french documentary, you'll love this soundtrack. The score captivates listeners from the very beginning and the song "To Be By Your Side" by Nick Cave gives the very special mood that the movie requires. Bruno Coulais is the same composer from HIMALAYA, thus you may understand better the sort of music you're listening: half ethnic, half new age and totally haunting. Don't miss it.

I've been listening to Maynard Ferguson since high school. It was a big part of my H.S. Band experience. I want to purchase M.F. Horn 2 when it is released on CD. In the past they put out a double cassette called MF Horn I&II. I want this on CD. The sound quality is good. It's on my IPOD already.

4 out of 5 stars A Maynard Milestone.......2006-09-18

At this late date it is hard to convey the impact this album had on a generation of mostly high school age musicians and fans who were hereto introduced to big band jazz.

Not only were we seduced by the jazz virtuosity demonstrated on the recognizable pop covers here (Mac. Park and Eli's Comin)but the screaming brass intensity and jazz excitement demonstrated on the other original pieces (L-Dopa)rivaled the hormonal satisfaction many had only experienced from progressive rock heroes of the day. The fact that this sound was produced with instrumentation many of us could only struggle with in school music programs sealed the deal.

The unexpected commercial success of this groove allowed the veteran Ferguson to continue with number of successive recordings on Columbia, culminating with a top 40 hit with the cover of the "Rocky" theme, Gonna Fly Now. At that point, the marketing people at Columbia Records got all the wrong signals and helped to run the trumpet virtuoso's reputation into the ground with a series of forgettable efforts based on jazz/disco/pop covers of well known themes. His image in the jazz world never fully recovered; his early work with Stan Kenton and his own substantive recordings of the 50s and early 60s were almost totally forgotten by critics and purists.

Fortunately, Maynard's creativity, personality and loyal fan base rebounded with him on other labels, most notably Concord Records through the 90's with a number of hard bop 'small' big band recordings that yielded steady concert bookings through the end of his life.

Ferguson's early associations with other jazz greats encouraged many fans with curiosity to experience most of the post-swing era mainstream jazz world and, to a considerable extent for this 'student musician' demographic, unravelled what rock and roll had done to popular musical taste.

Quite a contribution to the American art form, I'd say; and from a Canadian, no less.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Album, A Great Musician, A Great Person.......2006-08-25

Maynard Ferguson passed away just a few days ago. A sad day for jazz, he was probably one of the last of the old jazz greats. I'm so glad that I was able to take the family to see him live - front row center, it was a great experience. When I was in high school in the 70s he and his band played at our auditorium, our high school jazz band opened for him. Prior to the show he and his band sat in with us for our rehearsal and it was one of those experiences I'll never forgot. He was not only a great musician, he was a very fine person.

I've been looking for this album on CD for years. On hearing the news I pulled out some of my old albums for a listen. MF Horn has always been a real favorite. I've about worn it out. Today I thought I'd check again and it's available! I will be buying it. So should you.

It has a mood to it that always leaves me feeling real good. The musicianship is great across the board. The various pieces all work together. There's no need to explain the particulars of each song. This is simply a great, great recording. Get this, get it now.

I just hope CDs don't wear out because I'll be playing this one a lot.

5 out of 5 stars Alas, A Sensative Horn..........2006-05-31

Ballad to Max has to be one of, if not the most, beautiful thing Maynard Ferguson has ever recorded. His Flugelhorn is flawless and absolutely "liquid". The rest of the album is straight ahead for the times when this was made over in Europe, but the Ballad (mentioned) is easily worth the price of the album if ever you put a horn to your mouth. This is the ultimate phrasing and one of a kind sound. Others play just as high, but not just as well nor as musical as Maynard does up there. At an age approaching 80, his double high C is still as big as a Buick. He remains, after these six plus decades, entirely in a class by himself.

5 out of 5 stars ABOUT TIME is right!!!.......2006-05-01

Anyone who grew up with the sounds of Maynard doesn't need to read these reviews. MF Horn is awsome. Several years ago I bought a high end album-to-digital-CD converter just to hear these tunes again, but since I listened to them so often back in the days, the conversions carry the scratches of the vinyl medium. Cant wait for MF II, and (can we hope) live a Jimmy's???

5 out of 5 stars Long Live 80's Metal.......2007-07-11

Back in 1985, I owned both Rough Cutt albums on vinyl and cassette. They were listened to quite often and wore out quickly. I had been looking for these on cd for quite awhile. What a pleasant surprise to find it here (ON ONE CD, nonetheless). The musicianship is amazing and the production is what totally propels this into another universe. If you are a fan of 80's metal - BUY THIS NOW!

4 out of 5 stars I can't believe they released this!.......2007-07-09

I've been trying to get these albums for years. Great singer and songs. One of the great undiscovered bands of the 80's.

5 out of 5 stars An Overlooked Gem.......2007-06-12

Both Albums were 80's rock at it's best. Rough Cutt never got the publicity other less talented bands received during this period. I believe RC focused more on their music and less on the hair and glam. Excellent lyrics awesome riffs---- You won't be dissappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Double Shot of Rough Cutt !.......2007-04-26

Hell Yea ! I was one of those metal head kids ya saw in the 80's. I loved to find the obscure metal bands that kicked butt. I'd see groups in concert like Keel, Helix, Accept, Loudness, TNT, Stryper, etc. I prided myself on having a wicked metal-head collection of 80's\early 90's Metal music. If it was a metal band in the 80's I had it or heard it. Rough Cutt was one of my favorite metal bands. They had a raw but seductive way of sounding and with Paul Shortino's unique voice it glued it all together. The song Black Widow is a song that Cinderella's Night Songs could never touch. The cover song they did of Janis Joplin's "Piece of my heart" truly would make her proud to hear. The song "Dreamin again" just takes me to another time and place of metal paradise, lol. I was lucky enough to see Rough Cutt LIVE at the Hollywood Sportatourium in Hollywood Florida back when they opened for Dio and toured for their first album. The show kicked butt as well as Dio. Damn I wish the metal of the 80's was still going strong today but thats life! Im glad I have my 80's\early 90's metal cd's to listen to and give me good memories. I'm honored to have Rough Cutt in my collection! Tear it up metal heads of the 80's !

5 out of 5 stars Rough Cutt and Rough Cutt Wants You.......2007-01-29

Incredible find. An A+ for those who want to have a nostalgic taste of what metal should sound like in an original sense. The production is top notch and the musicianship is superb. Paul Shortino's vocals are over the top as well as the drumming of David Alford. The track Black Widow rules!

4 out of 5 stars Pop-influenced big band sound reaches maturity with this album.......2007-04-15

This album marks the point at which Maynard's band hit its stride in the era of the pop-rock-influenced big band sound. In the years just prior to this 1973 release, the band had relied heavily - but not always successfully - on interpretations of top-40 tunes to give it a contemporary sound and wider appeal (the "Ridin' High" album is a prime example of a less-than-successful effort). For this album, five of the seven tracks are original tunes written especially for the band in a contemporary rock-influenced style that would help set the standard for other groups that would follow. For example, "Mother Fingers" sounds like the type of material the Saturday Night Live band started to play a few years later.
The remaining two tracks ("Round Midnight" and "Love Theme from The Valachi Papers") are the ballad offerings of this set, done in a style more like Maynard's band of a decade earlier. Both are beautiful arrangements, and this rendition of "Round Midnight" may be the best big band version of that old standard ever recorded.
Trumpet enthusiasts may wish that Maynard had done more trumpet solos instead of switching to valve trombone for a couple of tunes, but it's always nice to hear what he does with the latter instrument, where he's not expected to play high notes all the time. Also, some listeners (myself included) would better enjoy the closing track "S.O.M.F." if it didn't open and close with solos by an Indian instrument identified as the "veen." Those who know Maynard's history recognize this as his homage to the time he spent in India in the 1960s, but it seems starkly out of place in a big band setting. (Note: The updated CD package mislabels this track as "S.M.O.F.")
For avid Maynard fans, especially those who heard him perform in the 1970s, this CD is a must-have. For others, this is good but not his best from this period - see my review of "M.F. Horn 4 & 5: Live at Jimmy's."

4 out of 5 stars My Favorate Maynard Album.......2007-04-11

This was my favorate Maynard Ferguson LP. The CD sounds just as good as the LP. Note, however, that it is also just as long as the LP. That means that you are paying for a CD with less than 40 minutes of music on it.

5 out of 5 stars A Purely Subjective Review.......2007-03-02

This happens to be my favorite Maynard album of all time. The clowns at Columbia/Sony took their sweet time (30+ years) allowing this one to be released on CD -- just in time for Maynard himself not to see it happen (you can tell I am a big fan of Columbia/Sony brass). This was the last of the original "MF Horn" series recorded with the original "English" crew, and for once, Columbia got the audio right. A great sounding album, along with great performances by all involved.

5 out of 5 stars Keeps on tickin!.......2007-06-15

I'll have to say first, I didn't know what to expect when I bought this CD. I bought it after I heard Influences. That was an excellent (cover song) effort in it's own right. I am very glad I did take the plunge. For those who like original, real electric / acoustic rock with good vocal leads, harmonies and solid, talented musicianship, this a CD is for you. It is not a rehashed Styx, Night Ranger or Dam Yankees mix. It is a bit lighter than most of that music, but very good none the less. It starts right out with the 2 excellent cuts and maintains a high degree of quality throughout. This is no partially talented and/or half-baked attempt to make a few bucks CD either. It's a well recorded CD, with songs crafted by an accomplished, talented duo with Steve Smith on drums. The songs range from outstanding to good. No fills or bummers here. I would have liked to see it a bit longer (more songs). And that's a compliment of sorts too. It was that good. But it's not easy to write a full CD's worth of good songs. This CD is well worth listening to.

5 out of 5 stars More Please! .......2007-06-02

I've never written one of these and probably won't again unless Shaw Blades releases another like Hallucination. Guys, the covers are nice, but why do I want to listen to what I already know when you are capable of producing your own original (and excellent) work. To the listening public: buy this one, enjoy it and join me in beating the drum for MORE!

5 out of 5 stars Two Righteous Rockers Team Up For A Dynamic Duo.......2007-04-27

On HALLUCINATION, Tommy Shaw (Styx, Damn Yankees) and Jack Blades (Night Ranger, Damn Yankees), team up for a session on which they play all instruments except drums, which are handled by Steve Smith. This CD is much lighter in sound than their previous bands' music was, and is, with songs espousing the idea that camaraderie and friendship are more important than trying to impress the opposite sex by wearing clothing made in countries which convict foreign tourists on false charges. Given the fact that Shaw and Blades both advocate sanctions against Indonesia in retaliation for that country's trumped-up 2005 drug-smuggling conviction of a young Australian tourist, that can hardly be seen as a surprise. Shaw's and Blades's views on this issue make HALLUCINATION an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Album.......2007-03-14

I'm a huge styx fan and a huge Night Ranger fan I love these guys' Damn Yankees work as well as their other side projects. This is a fantastic album by 2 of the best musicians to come out of their generation.

4 out of 5 stars Good, strong album.......2006-11-06

If you like Damn Yankees, you'll probably like this CD. It's not quite as heavy, but Shaw & Blades complement each other really well and the tracks are all solid.
