    There are many collections of Sly material floating around out there, this is by far the best one. If you already own all the other albumns or you are looking for their more pop oriented work this is the place to go.

    OK, so I'm not great at reviewing CDs, but in my opinion this CD (or the re-issue "Somehow, Someway, Someday") is really worth having. John Anderson's voice sounds wonderful & I can lip sync almost every song because I've played them so much! Two more notes: I'd love a copy of that mid '70s album the other reviewer mentioned.:0p And "Red Georgia Clay" is on some (if not all?) copies of John's "Eye of A Hurricane" LP (try Ebay auction site?)

    I had an album that actually had a lot of these songs on it. Most of them are on the album. The album had a torso shot of him in front of a red background, mid 70's. One song that isnt on there that i'd like to find again is "Red Georgia clay" Give me more info if you have it! Overall, This album has the classic "John Anderson signature". John Anderson is the greatest!

    Mom bought me this one for Christmas & it must be one of the best pesents I ever got. John's remarkable baritone voice is in top form, delivering "I'm Just Here to Love You" and "What Did I Promise Her Last Night" very sensually. There's also a couple uptempo tracks like "Mississippi Rainstorm" which as a cool groove.

    I like this abum alot,it's been along time comin though. It shows John in fine vocal form before he became a Star...I've allways wondered what he sounded like before Swingin and he sounded just as great then as he does now. Highly recomended!

    Took me forever to find this again! I bought this as a tape at a "final" sale for cents literally and always believed John had a real voice that he just "sold out" to "pop" music....finding this music just proved it to me that he could sing for real. And I sure wish he and Darryl would PLEASE just sing again as they were meant to be. Seems they gave up and I don't blame them, but it sure is good to hear them in "early years"...and if they ever see this review and if anyone agrees with me, I never tire of their voices and PLEASE SING FROM YOUR SOUL AGAIN! I sure wish to hear your voices again as they were meant to be. Not that top 40 stuff......which is good, but not your calling.

        I purchased this 2CD set sold it after a week. Not much original 'good' YardbiRds recordings here. Try Roger The Engineer, or better, locate some good original 45's on Epic vinyl. Blues and Backtracks' is an 'almost-there' 2CD set. It could have and should have been a lot better.

        If you find the original vinyl, many are in Stereo, and you can check out the dual lead guitar solos by Jeff Beck with Jimmy Page. The webpage says out of stock, I agree, don't buy it unless you collect cover-art. The tracks are stale, same-ol, same-ol' vinyl 45s and LPs seem much better and original. aa

        2 out of 5 stars A Sloppy Overview of a Great Group.......2001-12-15

        This 2 CD set of Yardbirds odds and sods was rendered superfluous by Rhino's release of ULTIMATE. A few interesting inclusions help, like the sitar version of "Heart Full of Soul" and a few outtakes from the sessions that would result in ROGER THE ENGINEER, but otherwise this is a mess. "Shapes of Things" and "Stroll On" are also here, but they're also available on ULTIMATE. Worse, several tracks are repeated from Sony's earlier SMOKESTACK LIGHTING (again rendered superfluous by ULTIMATE). Sony clearly didn't care much about the band, one already notorious in collectors circles for its confused catelogue. To top it off, Bruce Eder's liner notes are dull and uninformative and chockfull of middlebrow disdain for his subject. Not to be too much of a pedant, a photo featuring Paul Samwell-Smith is mistakenly listed as being from "Blow Up." Skip it unless you're desperate to hear "Pounds and Stomps" or "For RSG."

        Recently I heard an ARS song on the radio, and I thought, I have to get one of their albums. I found this one.. I popped it into my cd player and was stunned. It was NOT the versions I loved to hear while growing up. It was some lame re-recording of the great ARS songs. However.. it does have some of the original artists.

        Since these are NOT the songs you probably want to hear, I cannot reccommend this album. If you want to hear the great original recordings, you want to purchase BEST OF ATLANTIC RHYTHM SECTION, (June 11, 1991). FOrtunately, this too is available on Amazon.
