Customer Reviews:
Sounds like a cheap plastic toy.......2007-06-20
I have these DVD's and I can tell you that they will not be a huge part of my baby's development. I received them as a gift from someone that thinks that all you need to do is plunk your child in front of a TV all day without giving the baby any attention. You can see why these DVD's are popular at Day Care Centers or what I like to call, "Concentration camps for baby's with lazy parents", because they know that they can sit their kid/baby in front of the TV and let them turn into a thoughtless zombie while they listen to Baby Einstein totally ruin classics by Bach and DeBussy by playing the music with very cheap midi keyboards. I can get better quality music by whistling Dixie with a mouth-full of saltine crackers.
Also, it has been proven that classical music has nothing to do with the cognitive development of young people. Now, teach them how to play piano or violin and you have yourself an actual YOUNG EINSTEIN, but listening to this kind of music does nothing for the development of the brain. It is just for lazy parents that can't sit down with their kids and play with them or read them a book.
would make you sleepy.........2007-06-15
its a good product with very fine music and my toddler realizes that it is sleep time, if I play it. he goes to bed and sleeps after a couple songs. I have trouble in some songs are some months.. dont know why.
Kid's Music.......2007-06-08
I bought this CD for my grandniece, but after listening to it, I determined that no one would ever play this for her except me. I would have kept it for myself but I have the grown-up versions of each of the classical masterpieces on this CD. So, I ended up returning it for a full refund. If you want your kids to be exposed to classicl music, it's a great buy. But if you don't think they will get to listen to it, don't waste your time.
Baby Einstein: Lullaby Classics
Not soothing.......2007-06-07
These synthesizer versions of classical songs get really old, really fast. Worse yet, the songs are sometimes not soothing at all, especially the very first song. The song seems to get particularly loud and uptempo, which is precisely what you don't expect in a lullaby. Please listen to the sample of the first song at least before you buy.
Great for bedtime, but wish it were a real piano.......2007-06-01
This CD worked great to put my daughter to sleep while I rocked her in my arms, and I enjoyed the choices of songs and the arrangements. However, I would have preferred that real instruments were used.

Album Description
40th Anniversary Edition Of The Classic Album!
1965's Whipped Cream & Other Delights transformed Herb Alpert & The Tijuana into bonafide superstars, spending an incredible 8 straight weeks at the top of the charts. The album was not only memorable for its music, but for the iconic cover art which featured model Dolores Erickson strategically swathed in whipped cream. The original twelve tracks revolve around the theme of food and include such classics the triple Grammy-winning hit, "A Taste of Honey" and the Dating Game theme "Whipped Cream." This special 40th Anniversary edition features two studio bonus tracks along with a 20-page booklet and a collector's poster.
Each album in the Herb Alpert Signature Series features meticulously remastered sound, deluxe packaging, detailed liner notes, and an intro by Herb Alpert containing personal recollections and anecdotes.

PASS THE TEQUILA! AND LISTEN TO THE BRASS! ONE OF MY FAVORITES.......2007-07-12
I am repeating this story you are about to read as it gives an explanation of why I love this music so much! "Whipped Cream & Other Delights" has many of the songs on it used on the ride you are about to read about. It is one of my favorite Herb albums for that reason and I was mesmerized(as a kid)looking at that gorgeous cover! That being said....Please read on.....I have fond memories of the music of Herb Alpert! I was introduced to him at an early age as my parents were fans of his records. I didn't hear much of him again until I was coming of age in Wildwood N.J. at the age of 15 when I used to party under the boardwalk with my friends and our girlfriends underneath Hunt's Pier's "El Scrambler" ride. The ride played Herb Alpert tunes non stop! I guess you could say I became a "Man" underneath that pier with my first love listening to the Tijuana Brass. Later in life in my 30's I was taking a break from playing in a band in the local bars,I became a DJ and I would mix Herb Alpert in my mixes and buy shots of Tequila for my fans! To this day when I play these songs at parties we all look for the Tequila bottle! This is a one of a kind sound and if I were stranded on a desert island with only a few albums, Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass would be included in that collection! This is one of his best albums. I no longer own the original records so, I can not say if the new cd's are true to the originals. They sound fantastic to my ear!
Vintage Delights.......2007-05-14
It had been a long time since I heard this album on vinyl, but all the memories came flooding back. I had forgotten how well Herb and the guys actually played, and that each piece had its own hook! I recommend this CD as a piece of pop musical history, whose sound is every bit as fresh today as it was 40 years ago.
Excellent Music.......2007-05-10
I'm very please with my CD "Whipped Cream & Other Delights (40th Anniversary Edition)
~ Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass"

Whipped Cream: Not for the Lactose Intolerant........2007-04-29
1965's Whipped Cream & Other Delights transformed Dolores Erickson into the bonafide superstar of my adolescent whipped cream fantasies. Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass didn't do so bad, either, spending an incredible 8 straight weeks at the top of the charts. The memorable cover might have accounted for a large percentage of sales, especially among my demographic, but the music didn't hurt.
This is a prime example of the 60's "concept" album, with all of the intrumentals named after food. Lollipops & Roses." "A Taste of Honey" and the Dating Game theme "Whipped Cream." Etc. Etc. It caught the Zietgeist and rode it like a wave. Boys in Elementary School were inspired to learn the trumpet. I, among them.
I think the first record I purchased was Herb Alpert & TJB, but it wasn't this album, it was a 45 single.
I later did get this album, and several others of theirs, and then my neighbor's mother borrowed it for a wild party, and it got scratched from all the crazy drunken dancing.
Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass - Whipped Cream w/other delights CD.......2007-04-12
A slice of Classic Herb Albert & Tijuana Brass at their best

Three decades after decisively trading fame and his superstar moniker for the spiritual devotion for which his restless '70s songs seemed a perpetual quest, the singer-songwriter born Steven Demetre Georgiou has successfully resurrected Cat Stevens's muse, if not his persona. The musician whose dedicated embrace of Islam embroiled him in controversy frequently sings its praises on An Other Cup, both boldly (the Prophet-lionizing "The Beloved") and with delicate reflection ("Whispers from a Spiritual Garden" reworks Sufi mystic Jalaluddin Rumi.) Given the political and religious misconceptions that have often plagued him, he's mused for years that his theme song should be Nina Simone's "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood"; here Yusuf makes good on the promise, conjuring a cover steeped in brooding elegance with the assistance of Madonna/Dido/Rod Stewart producer Rick Nowells.
Yet, as "Heaven/Where True Love Goes" attests, the musician remains as masterfully adept at blurring distinctions between spiritual and romantic ecstasies as he is at evoking his trademark idealism in the lilting harmonies of "Maybe There's a World." Fans of his vintage catalog will find intriguing riches outside the more spiritually focused works here, too, with the familiar idealism of the previously unrecorded 1968 song "Green Fields, Golden Sands" and muscular "I Think I See the Light" further evoking the glories of Cat past. The production leans towards the spare and shrewdly contemporary, whether casting the effusive opener "Midday" in Paul Simon's spirit of cross-cultural adventure, underscoring the melodic charms of "One Day at a Time," or suffusing "When Butterflies Leave" and his autobiographical cover of Simone with graceful, neo-classical strings. Considering the career time lapse, it's a remarkably strong effort, yet one inspired by a gentility and spiritual inquisitiveness that's comfortably familiar. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
Yusuf's (formerly Cat Stevens) first album of modern pop songs since 1978's Back to Earth. On his return to music, Yusuf says "I feel right about making music and singing about life in this fragile world again. middle of the road to nowhere.......2007-07-12
This new record proves once again the importance of clever arrangements and real live musicians. Steven/Yusuf's music was blessed with them and I still love to listen to his music from the 70's. 'An other cup' is another story - in the end I was just bored. Too average to give away as a gift, it lingers on my shelfs. Can't recommend at all.
Welcome Back .......2007-06-13
Yusuf (Cat Stevens) is back, and since Tea for the Tillerman, I have waited for an album that speaks to the soul from the first track to the last, and many bands and artisits have tried, but always fell shy of the accomplishment; Yusuf has just shown us that when your heart is full of divine love, it spills over into everything you do, and in this case we have again 1 complete album that talks to the soul through and through. Thanks Yusuf
Glad Cat is Back.......2007-06-09
I have always been a big Cat Stevens fan, and was sorry to see him disappear for so long. This is a worthy return, nice mellow melodies with hints of the old Cat - distinctive riffs and piano that reminds you of the old days.
Awesome!!.......2007-06-08
I have always been a Cat Stevens afficionado; I did not know what to expect after he'd gone his Spiritual Way these many years. I,too, have been on a Spiritual Path, though not Islam-- yet Truth is Truth.
When I first listened to it, my eyes overflowed with the tears of my Heart. It was for me a masterpiece of the Love of God.
Those of you not so deeply entrenched into the spiritual thing will still find themselves being seduced, as always, by this unique pied piper.
Buy it! Buy it! Buy it!.......2007-06-01
Thank you fate...it was just a friend mentioning "Cat Stevens" the other day that prompted us to pull out our CDs from years past. Then it was on to You Tube and lo and behold we find all these incredible videos of Yusuf LIVE. Then on to his website and we see An Other Cup.
We've been fans since "Tea" but when Yusuf found his new life...we bid him goodbye and simply cherished all of his recordings past.
Now, with An Other Cup..we rejoice in the return of his much needed voice and simple message. Let's face it people, the world has gone totally insane...and while many may think Yusuf's "style...views...message" may be dated and out of step with reality...for us, it's exactly what we needed. This CD is a calm, peaceful, thoughtful oasis. That peace has always been within us...but many of us have forgotten how to tap that spring. Listening to this CD helped us find it again. We only wish we looked sooner!
We envy Yusuf his peace of mind and sense of purpose. It doesn't matter what name he may call God...but it's certainly obvious that his God has choosen him to touch hearts and souls in a most positive way.
Thank you Yusuf.

Singer/pianist Diana Krall breaks new ground interpreting modern standards by Tom Waits, Mose Allison, and Joni Mitchell, as well as compositions by herself and new husband, Elvis Costello. Krall's piano-jazz cred comes through loudly and clearly on her Count Basie-styled version of the Bonnie Raitt staple "Love Me Like a Man" (written by folk-bluesman Chris Smither). But it's the collaborations with her spouse that unearth untapped emotional nuances of her velvet voice; many are reminiscent of Bill Evans's moody, impressionistic pieces. The title track, "Narrow Daylight," "Abandoned Masquerade," and "I'm Coming Through" all deal with love and loss. "Departure Bay," a picturesque ode to her hometown of Nanaimo, B.C., proves that this is the start of something big, and that two heads--and hearts--are better than one. --Eugene Holley Jr.
Customer Reviews:
Exceptional album.......2007-05-10
Exceptional performances, material, and production.
Krall/Costello collaborations are my favorites - title cut in particular.
No weak cuts on the album, but alot of talent.
Brava! The woman behind the music - revealed........2007-04-12
I have been following and enjoying Diana Krall's career since her debut at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Her amazing talent has been stunning and her ability to interpret and re-interpret jazz classics in immensely pleasing to her fans. I always wondered if she was really enjoying her gifts as much as her fans. This album reveals a multidimensional original talent, exploring her talent and finding her creative voice. I loved it the moment I heard a couple of tracks. I hope we hear many more original and collaborative pieces in the future. This seems like an intimate glimpse into the artist and is a gift to us all.
great effort.......2007-03-16
I liked this cd very much. The best tracks are Love Me Like a Man and Temptation. Real toe tapping, jumping music.
Love it, love it, love it.......2007-03-12
Put this CD on for an evening of great jazz. This is smooth jazz to unwind with filled with intimate feeling and sets a melancholy mood. Diana Krall has a great voice and these songs suit her voice well. A good one to have in your collection if you like to kick your feet up and relax with quiet jazz music.
Modern Jazz, Modern Songs - The very best of Diana Krall.......2007-02-27
In this album Diana moves past the stilted hero-worship and bland retro-staged recreations of years past, and creates her own sound. If your idea of ideal jazz is that which recreates the same arrangements, with the same songs as 1950, then you won't like it.
As a jazz musician and composer there's nothing more stifling than the idea that the genre stopped 40 years ago. Its funny to hear comments like the songs on this new album are just "pop music", when in the golden years of jazz, it *was* popular music! Jazz artists through the decades have always taken the best current songs and made them their own, even in the bop years.
Sure, there's lots of modern jazz that is "smooth" pap, not worthy of the name, but this is the opposite of that trend. For all of the complaints this album has a traditional acoustic jazz combo orchestration and sound, but with an energy and push that is lacking in her other albums.

Layla stands as one of a handful of pillars of classic rock. The short-lived ensemble that was the Dominos provided an outlet for Eric Clapton to vent his then unrequited (and secret) passion for the wife of his best friend, George Harrison. Romantic anguish inspired Clapton to write and collect an embroiling and interconnected song cycle. Meanwhile, latecomer Duane Allman prodded Clapton to tear it up on guitar, so as not to be overwhelmed by his even more talented foil. Of course, Clapton eventually won the hand of his lady love. And then he divorced her. Sometimes real life messes up a good plot line. --Steve Stolder
Customer Reviews:
25 years, 1000+ CD's, and this is my favorite ..........2007-05-25
I bought this LP's, as an angst ridden, teenage girl. I'm now very settled and happy but I continue to love music. I have over 1000 CD's (that are ripped of course) in the blues/rock/alternative genre and actively seek out new artists to add to my collection every year.
It occured to me recently, that out of all the music I own, this is my favorite. I have listened to it countless times, yet it still moves me. So many other reviews have detailed what's so great about this music, that I won't repeat, but somthing magic happened during these sessions.
The studio was on fire........2007-05-08
Duane Allman was the fuel that powered these sessions and the slide playing on this session is as powerful now as when it was recorded. A fantastic collection played with the raw fire that ignited when Clapton and Allman tore into these songs. You can see Eric Clapton playing a number of these songs in 2007 with Derrick Trucks playing the slide parts which is excellent, but Duane had a soulfulness in his playing here that is timeless. A great CD.
The greatest album ever recorded.......2007-03-02
Remember vinyl? Back when records were put out on vinyl I used to say that vinyl had never been put to better use than making this album. It is the greatest album ever made by anyone at any time. I'm not even a big Clapton fan, I don't care about "Guitar Gods" or endless solos or any of that crap. Every song here is heartfelt, anguished and played by musicians who sound like they're on the ledge and could fall at any second. But they don't fall, they hang together and no one ever played better.
Everything builds to the end of the title cut where Clapton invokes Robert Johnson, "Please don't say we'll never find a way, And tell me all my love's in vain." Then the piano coda, and the quietly resigned "Thorn Tree." Perfect, never matched, never surpassed.
EC & Skydog in the Miami Heat.......2007-02-19
The best and sincere white blues there is, Erics masterpiece, this and Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac is the real deal. "Skydog" Duane Allman plays his heart out here also. One note about the guitar(s) sound on this album. This album was recorded using 5 watt Fender Champ tube amps from the 50's, that is why the GTRS sound big, small amps = big sound in the studio.
THE TESTAMENT AND CONFESSIONS IN THE LIFE OF MR. ERIC "SLOWHAND" CLAPTON........2007-02-12
I recently conversed with my friend in New Jersey commending him on a job well done in reviewing some of Rock's most sacred albums by CREAM. Since my friend succeeded in adding more to the CREAM and ERIC CLAPTON legend, I felt inspired in adding more to what my friend has already successfully accomplished by writing a review on one of Rock's most beloved sacred guitarists of all-time, MR. ERIC "SLOWHAND" CLAPTON AKA DEREK AND THE DOMINOES. The legendary album I have chosen to review is one of the all-time greats and is the real stuff that is purely made of Rock legend, "LAYLA." "LAYLA" was originally released in 1970 on Vinyl/LP and 8-Track on the Polydor Records label in association with PolyGram Records. I purchased the original Two-CD release on the RSO Records label in the mid-eighties. I also purchased this legendary album on a special 24KT Gold Plated Compact Disc in the ORIGINAL MASTER RECORDING format series which is distributed by Mobile Fidelity Sound lab. This album was remixed using the ULTRADISC II process resulting in adding and giving this legendary album an additional life with a beyond superior sound quality unimaginable. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary album or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible.
MR. ERIC "SLOWHAND" CLAPTON is known the world over as "God." CLAPTON has achieved and accomplished everything beyond every great guitarist's dreams and more. This fact makes you wonder just how much more can CLAPTON push the limits of his expertise and knowledge in revolutionizing the sounds the guitar is really capable of producing and how it would be played. With this in mind, you will hear the real ERIC CLAPTON at his absolute best when he is playing the Blues. It is in the Blues that you will see and feel the true emotions of CLAPTON flowing through his guitar. This natural talent and passion is what makes CLAPTON the legendary guitarist he really is which defines what the real stuff of legend should consist of. In all due respects, "LAYLA" also represents the true testament and confessions of the legendary guitarist. "LAYLA" would contain one of the greatest songs ever recorded. "LAYLA" would also carry one of the many true tales of Rock legend. At the end of the roaring sixties, CLAPTON would already established himself with the reputation as being one of the greatest guitarists of all-time. It was also well documented and publicized during this time period that CLAPTON fancied and fell in love with his best friends wife. CLAPTON'S best friend was EX-BEATLE GEORGE HARRISON, the wife he would steal and later marry is PATTI BOYD HARRISON. What's sad and tragic about this story is that CLAPTON'S love for BOYD HARRISON would often turn to guilt resulting in beginning CLAPTON'S heroin addiction and seclusion. What's also tragic is that CLAPTON'S marriage to BOYD would be short lived and end in divorce. On a good note, believe it or not, CLAPTON'S friendship with HARRISON survived and both remained best friends till the day HARRISON died in December 2001. Everything that happened during this period in the late sixties would inspire CLAPTON to record an album under a different disguised name and proclaim his love for the anonymous woman of his dreams through his music. "LAYLA" is the result of what happened in CLAPTON'S life during that period which discloses and exposes his testament and confessions that he kept bottled up secretly inside him. In reality, PATTI BOYD HARRISON is the real life LAYLA. In my opinion, this time period would be one of the very few that would bring out the best in CLAPTON. In my opinion, "LAYLA" is a well recorded album that is a true testament of a sheer genius and a superb tribute to the legendary guitarist that has been called the greatest guitarist in the world.
But before CLAPTON would record his masterpiece album "LAYLA," CLAPTON would need to find passionate and dedicated musicians that shared his same interests, tastes and visions in music. When CLAPTON recruited fellow music legends BOBBY WHITLOCK, JIM GORDON, CARL RADLE and DUANE ALLMAN, DEREK AND THE DOMINOES would be born and Blues Rock with a mixture of Southern Rock would be taken to the next level and phase.
I will list and briefly review certain songs that are vital and relevant during the recording of this album. If you want to hear vintage CLAPTON playing guitar at his absolute best, listen to the breathtaking song tracks "I Looked Away," "Bell Bottom Blues," "Keep On Growing," "Anyday," "Tell The Truth," "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad," the legendary Hendrix classic "Little Wing," and the legendary song that would inspire and begin the recordings for this album, "LAYLA." CLAPTON plays his guitar with such emotion and passion not heard from him before. In my opinion, the song "Layla" is one of CLAPTON'S all-time greatest achievements and one of Rock's all-time greatest contributions to popular music.
If you want to hear vintage CLAPTON playing the Blues at his very best, listen to the Blues songs "Nobody knows You When You're Down And Out," "Key To The Highway," the emotional confession classic "Have You Ever Loved A Woman" and "It's Too Late."
You will also hear beautiful ballads on this album such as "I Am Yours" and the beautiful acoustic "Thorn Tree In The Garden."
Overall, this is one of the greatest albums ever recorded by anybody. Listening to this album, you can actually feel the pure heart and emotion flowing through CLAPTON'S guitar. All of this passion would rub off on the other musicians which would effect the heart and soul of the music. The album "LAYLA" is the story of life and is actually regarded as a love manual.
I would like to highly recommend that everyone purchase this legendary album to own as a valuable and important part of their own personal music collection. This legendary album has definitely proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many more years to come, NOW AND FOREVER.
In closing, ERIC CLAPTON has continued to bless and grace us with his unique blend and style of guitar playing to this very day. CLAPTON is still regarded as one of the greatest guitarists of all-time. Besides HENDRIX, CLAPTON has accomplished so much in Rock n' Roll and Blues music history that CLAPTON doesn't really have anything left to prove. CLAPTON'S place in Rock and Blues history is well secured and will never ever be forgotten. So here's to you ERIC. Keep Persevering. Keep The Faith. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," am I wrong? Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my reviews in the near future when time permits. CLAPTON RULES. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever In Rock, John L.

Excellent resource for wedding planners.......2007-04-05
I work regularly with people planning church weddings who want the service to be dignified, traditional and formal. Often they have "ear memory" of music they've heard in other weddings, but no idea about its composer or title. This CD is the best compilation I've found of music that fits those requirements. Selections include great music and performances make it easy to imagine how they would sound in a particular church or other setting. Includes works by Protestant, Catholic and secular composers.
Great item!.......2007-03-29
Great CD! Perfect when planning your wedding music. There are a variety of songs from various composers.

This CD was inexpensive, and provided a great way to preview songs for my wedding. The CD had a good song selection. My fiance and I were able to get a better idea of how the songs would be at our wedding. Definitely an inexpensive tool that is worthwhile.

On the Other Side is an album of happy songs--"Get Happy," "Make Someone Happy," "Happy Talk," etc.--but isn't always so chipper in contemplating life and love. Indeed, it's difficult to imagine Tierney Sutton, one of whose calling cards as a jazz singer is her intensity, letting herself go--consider her inclusion of "Haunted Heart" at the middle of the album as a reflection of that. But in the cozy embrace of her working band, including the fine pianist Christian Jacob and two bassists, Sutton excels at exploring different shades of feeling, boosted by a guest turn by the ebullient veteran trumpeter and singer Jack Sheldon. Her somber dark tones, which bring her contemporary Patricia Barber to mind, are offset by a llilting catch in her voice that may remind you of Diana Ross. Ultimately, you wish her delivery was less cooly detached, but she has a winning ability to make the familiar new, as heard on two creative pairings of "Get Happy" and "Happy Days Are Here Again." --Lloyd Sachs

"On the Other Side".......2007-07-12
After reading her views on "happy", and her perspective on reaching for "happiness", etc., on the CD's notes, I had a better feel for the meaning and delivery of her great message............ that came through all the more clearly, because of her great voice.
songs to put you in a mood.......2007-07-07
Ms. Sutton's style and choice of songs puts me in the mood to be part of that joyous and sophisticated semi-mythical group "New York Cafe Society."
Just great.......2007-06-08
Just great - This is the minimum I can say about this CD.
Tierney is better cd after cd
Nice addition to the Sutton archive.......2007-05-24
Tierney Sutton distinguishes herself as a unique presence among the welter of contemporary female jazz vocalists. She has it all: flawless intonation, soulful delivery, and an extraordinary sense of how to spring a rhythm. Combine those attributes with her penchant for the eclectic songbook, and Sutton dwells in ethereal company with the likes of Cassandra Wilson.
Sutton's new CD, The Other Side, makes a strong thematic statement. It consists mostly of traditionally upbeat songs such as "Get Happy," "Happy Days are Here Again," and "Make Someone Happy" and gives them a pensive, ballad-like treatment. Given Sutton's energy and her band's restless probing, none of the tunes comes off as lugubrious, but a sequential listening of the entire CD is likely to jade the senses of even the most devoted Sutton fan.
The best approach is to ignore the programmatic intent and focus on the truly remarkable numbers: "Haunted Heart" derails expectations in offering the most conventional of vocal lines over an atypical and initially incongruous accompaniment. But the tension between the vocal and the rhythm lines finds resolution at various points along the way. This radical treatment of such a well-entrenched classic is risky, but finally compelling. Another standout, "Get Happy (Version 2)," features stunning work from pianist Jacob Christian and drummer Ray Brinker. In "Happy Talk," Sutton improvises some of her best scat to date.
In a November concert, Sutton told her audience, "Basically, we take a song and work it until it's unrecognizable." Usually, that experimental impulse makes the break toward freer interpretations. Not this time. Most of these pieces are restrained and subdued. Their tone is the antithesis of their message. But the formula works for most of the numbers, and the CD marks another significant milestone in Sutton's evolution as a unique voice.
The Greatest Female Singer of Our Generation..........2007-04-15
...And the most interesting trio working today-- that's the full package presented by The Tierney Sutton Band. Ms. Sutton's voice is the fourth instrument in what is in reality a quartet. In partnership with the incredible Christian Jacobs, Ray Brinker and Trey Henry and Kevin sharing bass, Tierney has produced a collection of songs of singular quality that demand your full attention. The addition of Jack Sheldon only adds to the importance of the CD. This band has deep roots with Jack Sheldon, and Sheldon is a major jazz figure who is consistantly overlooked for reasons that befuddle the muscians who have played with him or heard him play. He's a jazz master as well as showman, and I adore Tierney for including him on this master work. Play it loud, play it often. Buy as many copies as you can afford. We need to encourage the recording industry to make more Tierney Sutton Band recordings.

Although it's based on the 1967 movie of the same name, Thoroughly Modern Millie is almost thoroughly new. Composer Jeanine Tesori (Violet) and lyricist Dick Scanlan wrote a whole batch of songs, while retaining a couple from the movie--including the Jimmy van Heusen-Sammy Cahn title tune--and recycling even older material (look for Victor Herbert's "I'm Falling in Love with Someone" and the inventively arranged "Nuttycracker Suite"). Miraculously, the show, set during the jazz age, doesn't feel stitched together, and Tesori does a great job cranking out swinging melodies. Sutton Foster is appropriately brassy as Millie, but she can also tone it down, as in the beginning of "Gimme Gimme" (of course, she then proceeds to project up to the last rafters as the song builds to its climax). Harriet Harris, as nasty Mrs. Meers, steals the show with "They Don't Know." Close your eyes, listen to her, and you'll be back in Broadway's golden age. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Excellent Musical, But Product Quality - Eh.......2007-07-15
I absolutely love the musical so I'm thrilled with the cd.
My problem was not with the quality of the cd, but with the plastic case. The cd cases always come cracked. Although it doesn't affect the quality of the cd itself, it's rather disheartening that Amazon charges customers for its poor shipping.

This is an AMAZING musical and great album. It is sure to jazz-up any music collection! BUY THIS ALBUM NOW!
A must to add to your collection.......2007-05-18
I was very fortunate enough to see this on Broadway. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen! The music has just enough jazz and contemporary vive that any musical lover would enjoy! It's also got tapping in it! Sutton is simply awesome in this role and all of the cast can really belt out their songs. Harriet Harris is phenominal in her role as Mrs. Meers. I highly recommend this to all broadway lovers! It's one to add to your collection!
Delightful.......2006-06-12
The music takes a little bit to grow on you, but boy, does it! It's wonderful, charming, romantic, funny--just like the play itself. I loved almost every song and I was really impressed with "Long As I'm Here With You"-- I thought it was an old song written back in the twenties, because it so sounded like one. The cast is absolutely energetic and endearing, and Sutton Foster just *rocks*. Definitely worth the money.
YOU WILL LOVE IT.......2006-02-17
If you like musicals, you will NOT REGRET purchasing this musical soundtrack. JUST DO IT. It's so great, you will be listening to it forever. I also saw the show at the Kennedy Center in D.C. and it's one of the best I've ever seen. (And I've seen A LOT.)
Have Fun!

Desert Island Disc!.......2007-06-20
This sacd is positively stunning. I am young. I was raised on gizmos, gadgets and hi-tech this and that...and for the life of me I can't understand how these engineers back in the 50's and 60's produced such astoundingly detailed recordings. With two or three mics for the hall and some tube equipment and wham...there you have it...a recording of impressively powerful pieces of music with enough separation and detail within the mix to keep the listener busy for hours and hours on end. That and the emotional wallop packed by this recording is second to none. Even if you have copies aplenty of Pictures, or Night on..., such as I do myself, please do not hesitate to pick up this recording as it is worth every dime. If you are looking for an interesting counterpoint to Reiner's reading of Pictures or Night pick of Jose Serebrier's recording on Naxos.
Great way to exercise.......2007-06-13
Such great music. Exercise and listening
to this one is a great combination.
Time seems to fly by and before you know
it. Times up!
Wow!.......2007-04-02
How can something older than me sound so good? The recording is top notch. Dont be fooled into thinking it is "just stereo", the ambience of symphony hall comes thru as though it were recorded in surround. Exquisite detail and perfect tempo. Timpani has realistic impact. And all the other music with Pictures makes this a real bargain!
Strauss and Mussorgsky.......2007-03-24
They sound good, without the 'edge' often associated with CDs. CDs are a Fourier Transform of the analog source - that is to say a subset of it.
Hybrid SACD Mussorgsky: Pirctures at an Exhibition, Night on Bald Mountain.......2007-01-14
Great value. Great performances. On my krell sacd player, I found small differences between the SACD layer and the regular. The recordings are outstanding. Consider the price and that this is a 2 lp set, this is a deal.

the most relaxing classical music in the university.......2007-05-12
All my favorites. I can start the CD player, which is wired to speakers in every room of my house, and just let it play, along with "The Most Relaxing Classical Music in the World" and "The Most Relaxing Classical Guitar in the World." I enjoy an awareness of familiar and beautiful strains of my favorites all day long and never get tired of it.
My brother visited me recently and noticed it right away. That will be another order for this fabulour music.
Relaxing Classical Music.......2007-01-08
I was not really a classical music fan but I am now. I purchased this cd for my 14 year old grand-daughter, not knowing we would both enjoy the music so much. She has always enjoyed classical music along with all of the other teen music, rap, rock, country, etc.
Also, it really helped being able to listen to parts of the music before purchasing.
Stress-freedom.......2006-03-14
Perfect music to end the work day. After listening to this I can face the evening. If the morning is hard, a little at lunch time gets me through the afternoon.
Greatly enjoy!.......2006-02-23
I first developed a taste for this music a number of years ago when my daughter started playing in the orchestra. The reason I made this purchase however, was because I have a great deal of difficulty with anxiety and I was looking for ways to find help. I love these CDs. It helps so much to sit and close my eyes and enjoy the music. The CDs are full of beautiful music.
