About the Artist
Spy, Noir, Surf, Lounge, Rock, Spaghetti Western, Easy Listening and Rockabilly have all been terms used to describe the ferociously eclectic sounds of The Metrolites... and they've often been used in conjunction to describe a single song! Their musical chops are displayed throughout their instrumental and song repertoire performed on Saxophones (Nervous Neal Smith), Guitars (Kathleen Gallagher), MalletKat (think digital Vibraphone),TrapKat (digital drum thingy) and Theremin (Scott Morschhauser), Bass (Devin Kirby-Hansen), and Drums (Josh Duffee). If a bizarre offbeat life had a soundtrack, The Metrolites would be composing and performing.

Performance venues have been equally as eclectic, being the house band and playing the Copia Martini and Wine Bar in the Quad Cities one night and touring and playing a punk club the next. A recently overheard comment from a patron who wondered into the Copia says it all. "How is this happening? This is wonderful".

As fan demand for recordings reached a fevered pitch, The Metrolites launched their debut CD "The Metrolites in Spy-Fi" on the "Go-Go Golem" label. "Our goal is to release extremely high quality recordings as well as place music in TV and Motion Picture soundtracks" beams bandleader Scott Morschhauser. And how would Morschhauser describe the unique sound of The Metrolites? "I don't know... maybe the sound of a band made up of the mutant combined DNA offspring of Ennio Morricone, John Barry, Martin Denny, Henry Mancini, and... Joey Ramone."

However you slice it, The Metrolites are not to be missed. When things are odd in your life, listen carefully and you'll hear The Metrolites playing your soundtrack. You might want to then see your doctor... immediately.

5 out of 5 stars Song writing, singing, and musicianship make this CD a must!.......2004-11-25

From hot lounge instrumentals ("Tiki") to the fun vocals of Scott Morschhauser on "Middle Class Hell" and "Cyclops Optometrist," the Metrolites new CD "In Spy-Fy" rocks! Woven together like the sound track to a spy movie by variations on "The Man From M.E.T.R.O." theme, these songs form an eclectic mix of spy, lounge, rockabilly, and spaghetti western. Instrumentation is top notch with "Nervous" Neal Smith providing the hot saxophone, to Morschhauser's cool digital vibrophone. Kathleen Gallagher blazes a hot guitar trail following the steady beat of Josh Duffy on drums and Devin Kirby-Hansen on bass. If you're like me and familiar with rock and pop music, you'll feel at home with this CD while taking a slight detour in the world of Tiki lounges and martini bars.

5 out of 5 stars Wild, Cool, Swingin' (and a little Spooky, too)!.......2004-10-31

Although I've heard tell that a Metrolites live show is not to be missed, "In Spy-Fi" is a delight and stands on its own as a tiki-tainted earful of fun. Morschauser's vocal stylings are refreshingly unconventional and uninhibited, and the lyrics can be a blast! The stellar saxophone work really grabs the listener, but all the instrumentation is topnotch. The original compositions have great depth, and provide deliciously unexpected twists and turns! The Metrolites' unusual selection of cover tunes (only 3 of 18 tracks) fit perfectly into their style: surf, spy, noir, lounge & spaghetti western are all fitting terms from the Amazon description - just put them all into a cocktail shaker with a dash of olive juice to get the mouthwatering dirty martini that is the Metrolites' sound!

5 out of 5 stars In Spy-Fi.......2004-10-23

The MetroLites are badass, some of the best insturmental work i've heard. And scott has the coolest voice... ever.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Music .......2004-10-16

A friend of mine introduced me to their music. This group wrote most of the songs. It's hard to describe their music...if you enjoy TV and Motion Picture songs of the 50's and 60's with a nice Rock & Roll feel...you need to take a listen...you won't be disappointed.

Sometimes vocals are a bit uneven at times...so 4.5 stars.
