Customer Reviews:
The Iron City Houserockers' Debut Is Great.......2006-02-08
LOVE'S SO TOUGH, the debut album from the Iron City Houserockers, is absolutely great. The songs describe working-class anger and the frustrations of the common man with a lot more grit than Bruce Springsteen's more romantic BORN TO RUN; this band is more like DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN. Joe Grushecky is also a great chronicler of the struggles of EVERY individual, whether they live in gritty Pittsburgh, PA, upscale Cape Elizabeth, ME, middle-class Bayside, NY, or posh Lake Oswego, OR. Grushecky's opposition to Indonesia's trumped-up drug-smuggling conviction of a young Australian tourist makes this CD an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.
The Beginnings Of Pittsburgh Rock And Roll As We Know It.......2000-11-03
In the 1970's there was a band...quite possibly the best bar band of all time...and their name was The Iron City Houserockers. They weren't like Kiss and they sure weren't disco. These guys rocked bars throughout the tri state area and then they did an album. Eight of the nine songs were written or co written by lead singer and guitarist Joe Gruschecky. Most will tell you the man is not a singer in the typical sense...that's because he's a story teller. The first song I Can't Take It will explain it all to you. If you still don't get it, listen to Dance With Me and by then it will come to you. This album is a masterpiece...but, then comes the next album which is beyond masterpiece. The Iron City Houserockers are legends most have never heard of...give them a chance. You will not be sorry.
