Where would the '80s have been without the Pet Shop Boys? Discography makes a compelling case for the notion of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe as pioneers, if not geniuses. Mixing the cold feel of Euro-techno beats with the Boys' quest for something warm between the sheets, "What Have I Done to Deserve This" and "Suburbia" sound almost soulful. Although they seemed to be suffering from a terminal case of boredom, they managed to alchemize their ennui into touching sentimentality in "Love Comes Quickly," "Rent," and, especially, the AIDS-oriented "Being Boring." Discography begins with the Pet Shop Boys' beginning, "West End Girls," traveling past "Domino Dancing" and including their covers "Always on My Mind," and the medley "Where the Streets Have No Name (I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You.)" --Steve Gdula
Customer Reviews:
A blast from start to finish.......2007-02-13
You cannot hate these guys. Sure they get a little silly with the lyrics at times but what they do well is make catchy pop/dance music and they don't stray. At no point in history of the band has this simple concept been forgotten. They do what they do best and that's enough for this listener.
A song like 'Being Boring' is just plain amazing. But there's lots and lots more. If you love anything about 80s pop music then you will not be wasting one penny on this stellar collection. It's the first 18 singles the band released. Even today I'm in awe of the consistency of this band.
Number One Fan's Husband.......2007-01-22
I bought this for my wife for Christmas as she is a mad Pet Shop Boys fan and I think she has played it every day since. Outstanding, fun complilation.
Suburbia!.......2006-09-25
I have to say that this is my second compact disc because the other one got scratched up. I decided since I love their music to buy another one because the one hit that I love the most is Suburbia. I love listening to it over and over again. I love the other hits like West End Boys and What have I done to deserve this? and others on this collection. I love the sound and keep thinking about London, England and being on the underground or the tube. It's quite a great collection!
1984 West End Girls version?.......2006-08-28
While I like the 1986 version of WEGs, I LOVE the original 1984 version better. Does anyone know if it is available on CD?
Is $14.98 too much to ask for one perfect pop song?.......2006-06-28
Are you the kind of person who would spend $3.50 for the perfect oyster at a raw bar? How about $7.00 for a perfectly drawn pint of ale in a midtown New York bar? Then dropping $35.00 for a t-shirt because it was made in the US or $18.00 for that small jar of cashews from the minibar because you 'just had to have something to munch on" before going to dinner? If you answered yes to any of the above, you would have no problem dropping the full price (Amazon, $14.98) to have a red-book CD copy (no inferior compressed downloads, thank you) of the perfect pop song, "What have I done to Deserve this?" from Pet Shop Boys. One of the most beautifully sung and arranged female pop vocals ever recorded is to be found on this one song. It is well known that Dusty Springfield demanded several run-throughs and takes to make this cut. She is said to have sweated every single note to perfection because she felt so strongly about her performance. Believe me, it shows. Perfection. You also get the unrivalled, unmatched 80's pop and dance-beat mastery with all the other selections that only the "Boys" were able to create. And all for only $14.98.

Each song on this 96-cut collection is wonderful. And the Capitol years were when Sinatra's fullest voice was used on material by the best (Arlen, Porter, Van Heusen, Cahn, Styne). But a purist will miss the narrative that was so special in the original albums. Records such as This is Sinatra, Songs for Swingin' Lovers, and Only the Lonely were among the first concept albums in pop music. If you're used to hearing "Three Coins in the Fountain" after "I've Got the World on a String," this relatively random cornucopia--though full of great music--will not leave you feeling as satisfied as the old LPs. This is a fine primer for newcomers, but you should't miss the tracks that never became singles, including such classics as "Pennies From Heaven" and "Old Devil Moon." --Karen Croft

FRANK SINATRA "AMERICANA AT ITS FINEST" THIS CD SET CAPTURES OLD BLUE EYES VOICE AT AN UNREACHABLE PEAK.......................2007-05-14
I do own Frank Sinatras Columbia years 4 cd set 1943-1952. I like how young and vibrant his voice sounds in those war torn years of America. I will say Frankies voice reached an unreachable peak during his Capital Years 1953-1962. This cd box set really showcases Franks incredible voice. I never realized how great Franks voice was until listening to this box set straight through. At first it was overkill but as each song played, I wanted to hear more. Frank saw through the whole process of his recordings, he also used top notch recording equipment in the recording studios. Thank the good lord Frankie did, because the remastered quality sound on this set is incredible for recordings this age. I was'nt around for Sinatras young years, but I appreciate this mans voice and skills in the studio. Frank Sinatra came from a poor upbringing. He fought his way to the top of the movie and record business, either unscrupuless or agreeable it doesn't matter, as the song goes Frank did it his way. Frank was very concious of his looks in public and on the screen. What Frank may have lacked in looks, God Blessed him with a beautiful voice that far surpassed any great looking Hollywood star of the time. The Frank Sinatra Complete Capitol Singles Collection is a must have for any music fan, the 96 page booklet is very informative and interesting. Frank Sinatra, even though deceased is Americana at its finest.
The One and only Francis Albert.......2007-05-01
The original reviewer is quite wrong when she states this is not for the purist. All of these singles where not included in Franks concept albums and to miss this collection would be a shame. You need this collection to go along with all the others,I know I have them all.Ring a ding ding!
Great appreciation.......2007-01-12
Recording quality is excellent and permitted the listener to fully apppreciate Sinatra's voice during his prime.
SOME VERY GREAT YEARS...PEAK SINATRA VOCALS!!!.......2006-12-07
Many of us baby boomers fell in love with the great voice of Frank Sinatra when we were kids in the 50's hearing adults around us playing his great lp's and listening to his wonderful Singles on the radio which is what this wonderous collection of Sinatra classics is all about so each great song was specially crafted for the radio to be a hit and many more than were should have been...this is an incredibly great collection of gems from the genius!!! Arrangements are first rate and this collection is a keeper from a peerless legend who continues to enrich our life in a way that only he could...thank you Mr. Sinatra for leaving us such a treasure chest of musical magic to enjoy over and over again and you are missed!!!
Phenomenal Frank Collection- Includes some great rarities.......2001-12-04
The trouble with buying Mr. Sinatra's recordings is that many overlap between the original vinyl now on CD,and other more lenghty collections. That's why this 4-disc CAPITOL collection is so good. There are some swingers and ballads here that to me at least,a die hard fan, were unknown before hearing them here.True, a few are not top drawer Frank, but there are many peak performances here with Frank, and usually,Nelson Riddle. These include "My One and Only Love",which I admit I almost disliked on first listening. Now it is among my all-time favorite Frank ballads.Listen to this wondrous love song, and you'll know why Frank helped make a better world with so many tunes. The same is true with "You My Love","Look to your Heart","Tell Her You Love Her" (a slightly faster tempo),"Time After Time",and "This Was My Love".Any young couple who can sing these songs together (try karaoke?!) should head right to the altar, and will probably live happily ever after. (Except for "This Was My Love",actually a sad number). For swingers try "Mr. Success",a real blaster with lyrics Frank may have helped write. The same holds for the practically unknown "Ya Better Stop",an arrangement full of fun, wit, and brassy horns, even ending on the singer's amusing fade out comments.Duets like "Who Wants to be a Millionaire",and "Well did you evah" with Mr. Crosby are just a few more of the fun numbers balancing this collection. As in any large assortment, there are a few near-misses,including a goofy "Sea Song",a 1950's version of turn of the century vaudeville (smaltz?!)But a few near misses don't take away from the fact that there must be at least 50 smashes on here, many difficult to find anywhere else.Bottom Line: This a great collection of Frank, unique from many others, and will never go out of style, and is worth the investment several times over...Listening to Frank's best 1950's recordings put the lie to the common smug comments that the 50's were dull,bland,etc...

Not Quite The First Round-Up Of Andy's Columbia Hits.......2005-05-14
Although this is a superb set, it is not quite as advertised: the first time all of Andy's Columbia chart singles have been rounded up in one collection. Over the years, Williams placed 45 entries of Billboard's Hot 100 charts on either the Cadence or Columbia labels. The first and ONLY time all 45 original recordings appeared in one collection was in 1995 -- in the 60-track, 3 CD box set "Andy Williams: His Greatest Hits & Finest Performances" (Reader's Digest 102C). I should know -- as I compiled and produced it! Unfortunately the Digest box set is currently out of print. At least now, though, we have the present 50-track collection -- although it does omit Andy's pre-Columbia gems (among them, "Butterfly," his only chart-topping single).
Definitive American hits collection from 1962 onwards .......2005-01-13
Andy began his recording career with the small Cadence label, better known for the early recordings of the Everly Brothers. He had some success on that label with songs such as Canadian sunset, Butterfly (his only UK number one hit) and Lonely Street. However, those songs and the others he recorded for Cadence are not here - you must look elsewhere for them. He left Cadence for Columbia in 1962 and that is where this compilation begins.
This outstanding compilation contains all of Andy's American hits for Columbia, presented in chronological order. At the end of the second CD there are some bonus tracks. Andy's theme song (Moon River) is among these - his version of this song was never released as a single although it is now regarded as his song.
The set includes all the popular classics that Andy is remembered in America for such as Dear heart, Days of wine and roses, Danny boy, Music to watch girls by, Happy heart and many others. What makes this collection particularly interesting is the inclusion of Andy's lesser hits, most of which are rarely heard these days, such as Charade, Wrong for each other, How can I tell her its over and One day of your life.
Can't take my eyes off you (a UK number five hit) and It's so easy (a UK top twenty hit) are also among the bonus tracks. Brits and expatriate Brits will appreciate the inclusion of these two important tracks, which mean that all Andy's UK hits from 1962 (Stranger on the shore) to 1973 (Solitaire) except May each day (which just made the UK top twenty) are included. Andy's last three UK hits (Getting over you, You lay so easy on my mind, The other side of me) are omitted but none of them made the UK top thirty and they, like May each day, can be found elsewhere. Can't get used to losing you, Almost there (both number two), Can't help falling in love (number three), Where do I begin, Solitaire (both number four) and Home loving ma (number seven) were, together with Can't take my eyes off you, Andy's biggest UK hits.
So this is a fascinating collection of Andy's best music, superbly re-mastered and with an informative booklet. Whether you are a committed fan or not, this is the best American compilation ever released of Andy's music. Indeed, it might be the best compilation of his music ever released anywhere in the world. So buy this, then (if you are interested) buy a collection of his Cadence hits.
Finally, an Andy Williams collection to get excited about.......2004-02-04
Lest we forget, Andy Williams was a major force in American popular music for nearly two decades. From 1956 through 1974, he placed over 40 singles on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart. Eight of these tunes made their way into the Top Ten. During those same years, Williams was a dominent force on the Album charts as well. He placed nearly 30 albums on the Top 100 and many of these albums remained on the charts for a year or more. I could never quite understand why his label for most of that time, Columbia Records, failed to issue a collection worthy of his stature and accomplishment in the business. Oh, there were two "Greatest Hits" albums issued, but both were done with very little care. Happy to say that Taragon Records has corrected this injustice. Here is a collection for Andy Williams fans to die for. In addition to a terrific remastering job, this two disc set features a 12 page booklet with some wonderful photographs. The package includes every chart hit Williams had during his nearly two decades at Columbia. I enjoyed them all. Aside from the well known hits such as "Can't Get Used To Losing You", "Dear Heart" and "(Where Do I Begin) Love Story" I would recommend to you "One Day of Your Life", "A Song For You" as well as a rather obscure 1965 hit "Ain't It True". I love that song and had not been able to find it anywhere for nearly 40 years. All in all, this 50 song collection is a bit pricey but given the poor quality alternatives out there I recommend that you pay the price for this one.
Hands Down, The Greatest Vocalist Of All Time!.......2003-07-21
As an Andy Williams collector, I will say this is the Greatest CD available period. Listen to A Song For You, a personal favorite. Start with this CD and than move on to the Collectables Label, 40 album releases put on 20 CD's. Have Fun!
Kevin Thomas
A Warm and Welcome Addition to Anyone's Collection!.......2003-06-14
I, like many others, have been wanting the perfect Andy Williams collection for a long time. I had "16 MOST REQUESTED SONGS" and "16 MOST REQUESTED SONGS: ENCORE!". Now I'm not saying that the songs on these CDs were bad, but some of them were hardly Andy's greatest hits. I thought I'd never get a great Andy Williams anthology.
But wait! Taragon comes to the rescue! This is the greatest Andy Williams collection that anyone could own. It consists of all of his Columbia chart singles from the early '60s material ("Danny Boy", "Dear Heart", "Days of Wine and Roses", etc.) to his mid '60s peak ("Music to Watch Girls By", "Happy Heart", "Bye Bye Blues") all the way up to his great '70s "Adult Contemporary" songs ("A Song for You", "MacArthur Park", "Love Story", etc.)
But enough about all of Andy's various triumphs with some great songs, this collection is worth buying and will hold one's interest quite well. I think that the Love Unlimited Orchestra's version of "Love's Theme" cannot hold a candle to Williams' version.
I really can't put into words how great the sound, track listing, and liner notes are, but I'll say this: buy it and be prepared for an ultimate musical experience!

This record is so awsome! It has all their best stuff. If you love all their old material, then buy this. This stuff is hardcore, man! Don't buy The Anger and the Truth, it's mellow in some songs and only 3 songs rock.So do yourself a favor and buy this!
IHATEPOSERS, ANTIFLAG, AND CRASS.......2005-07-12
one of the best cd's i own. buy it now. appreciate their old stuff cuz they suck now. and the anger and the truth sucks. if u like this one and want another one by them, buy lower class crucifiction or so this is freedom. recommended for fans of a global threat, casualties, aus-rotten.
Super Band.......2004-12-14
On a moral point of view, this is the best CD for someone who's poor, like someone on well-fare who has trouble getting out of it. As for the music, it rocks!
raw, hard, and oustanding!.......2004-06-18
finally dug up this CD at the local tower, and let me tell you im blown away. The songs are hard and raw, and never let up. Anyone who appreciates good street punk should check out the unseen. If this CD is your taste, also check out the Casualties, and the Varukers, two other punkcore recording artists!

great, but not impeccable.......2004-05-18
This CD is the newest in my collection of Adicts CDs and it is a winner. However, i think that the very best of the adicts shows off the great range of songs that have a great meaning to them. If its your first adicts CD, try the very best of the adicts, it will have you adictted in no time
Im the joker in the pack!!!!.......2004-03-19
This was a very good cd! I was first introduced to "The Adicts" when watching a video about the history of punk. I bought this and it's very good. Almost all the songs are magnificent. You will only be disappointed with a couple songs. It comes with over 20 songs, so it's well worth it.

Again, Why Can't I Walk.......2003-09-25
Since 1951, Vic Damone had been my most favorite male singer. The best voice I have ever heard. No comparison. I use to have all hnis album but I must start a CD library and collection of Vic's rendition of songs. He is still my idol. His wife Pier Angeli was my favorite actress back in the 50s. His rendition of Just Say I Love Her and You're Breaking My Heart brings back old memories of my childhood in the Philippines. These songs were my girlfriend and I theme songs. Long Live Vic. I wish I can hear from him...How can I?

Customer Reviews:
This is where it all began!.......2007-06-09
First off, it's worth pointing out that all of these "Complete UK Upsetter Singles Collections" are really for hardcore fans only. Because they represent the complete output of Perry's Upsetter label in the UK, you get a lot of cheesy pop covers along with the truly killer stuff.
Nonetheless, for a serious fan of Perry's early material, these are like manna from heaven. This volume featurs a lot of the killer organ instrumentals (usually by Winston Wright or Glen Adams) that typified the early "Upsetters" sound. This volume includes:
EIGHT FOR EIGHT
RETURN OF DJANGO
DOLLAR IN THE TEETH
NIGHT DOCTOR
MAN FROM M.I.5
MEDICAL OPERATION
The immortal LIVE INJECTION (and its original vocal version, "Badam Bam")
COLD SWEAT
VAMPIRE
DRUGS AND POISON
TACKRO
These are all prime examples of the early Upsetters sound. On the vocal side, the highlights are The Bleechers' amusing advertisment for Perry's record shop ("Check Him Out") and the absolutely stunning cover of the Bee Gees' "To Love Somebody" by Busty Brown. No joke, this is one of the most incredible reggae covers ever, featuring some amazing guitar accompaniment.
There's also, as mentioned, a lot of cheesy pop covers (and even nursery rhymes like "The Farmer in the Den(sic)") which cost the comp one star in my book. But as a fan, I wouldn't be without it.
Good stuff, but not the best.......1999-09-01
If you're familiar with the Lee Perry releases in print already which covered this era, they did a good job of picking out the best stuff from this era. "The Upsetter Collection" picked out the best of the killer Upsetter instrumentals, and a lot of the better vocal numbers might be familiar to you already also ("Check Him Out" from the Upsetter Collection, "Pound Get A Blow" and "No Bread and Butter" from Shocks of Mighty).
Which is not to say there's not some other great material on here. David Isaac's "Good Father" and Pat Satchmo's "Hello Dolly" are a nice couple of tracks for example. But I think Perry's recording technique was really starting to flourish during the next collection (Volume 2), and I would definitely recommend getting that collection first. Taken on its own merits (without regard to how much of this material the average Perry fan already has), this is a good collection with some nicely groovy instrumentals on it and a few classic tracks.
A shockingly brilliant collection of Lee Perry singles.......1998-12-19
This collection of singles from 1969 is a stunner. This collection contains A & B-sides--the first 50 "Upsetter" releases Perry put out through Trojan Records in the UK. Particularly shocking is that this collection represents less than 1/4 of his singles output over 3 years. The set contains a pretty thorough booklet that provides not only a "history" of Lee Perry, but also information on each of the tracks included in the set. These tracks are pretty upbeat by dub standards. There are some rude songs, a cover of "hello dolly" and a real strong 60s soul influence. Lots of harmonies--beautiful stuff.

I should have saved my money.......2007-01-30
I have been a life long lover of old school Nazareth and this CD set has some great songs on the first CD, but from there it goes down for me. On the next two CDs there is only one song that I liked. "Gone down train". The rest of the songs are pretty much from raygay to pop. Which isn't what I think of when I think of Nazareth. I should have saved my money and bought three older Nazareth CDs.
