4 out of 5 stars different than their old stuff, but a kool CD.......2004-03-12

I listened to this CD and don't find it to be a disappointment. Interestingly it does have maybe a couple '70 traces, but that's not automatically bad. For the musical style, so the guitars aren't blasting power chords all the time, so Mike Matijevic doesn't rip a high note on every song ... he does show on this album a very good mid-range, which he didn't show before. Mike can't do "NEVER LET YOU GO" every time he puts out new product ... he did this record 6 years later! I dig most of the songs, I think "We All Die Young" sounds more current, and less 'cheesy '80s' (what people say who like to rip hard rock) than the version in ROCK STAR. I also disagree that some say there are Zepellin influences in some of the music ... though it definitely has a different, rawer sound than their debut, from '90. All in all after a couple listens this is an enjoyable rock release featuring a singer who is still truly distinct.

Oh yeah, 1 more thing, for the [reviewer] who was [complaining] about the mixing style and the guitar sound - ya know what it sounds a little like to me? That STUPID new band from Britain, The Darkness ..... and those losers just sold 1.5 million of their debut album! But unlike The Darkness singer, Mike Matijevic when he goes high doesn't need to sing in that ... falsetto, he stays in his real voice. So people complaining about the new sound and the fact that Matijevic has new members - yeah this CD is not as good as the first 2 albums; Tangled In Reins being one of the best ... hard rock albums of all time ... but there some enjoyable tunes on it, if you can deal with a different sound. It's no 'tragic' release.

1 out of 5 stars Very displeased.......2002-03-17

Mike- what were you thinking? Being a huge late 80's early 90's hard rock fan, I searched for years for this album. I finally received it, and I wish I could send it back. This album's lineup consists of all new members (minus Metijevic). The raw, gritty rock edge appearantly left with the old members. What is left is a Barry Manalow meets Great White mix of cheesy ballads and 70's style guitar. I increased my search for the album once I heard "We all die young" on Rock Star, but buyers beware- The version on Wait IS NOT THE SAME as on Rock Star! Replace the guitar magic of Zakk Wylde form the soundtrack with a 12 year old kid playing an old Gorilla amplifier and you've got the Wait mix. Metijevic should not have kept the name of steelheart for this album, it is very misleading, as the music is nothing like the original steelheart rock. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

4 out of 5 stars Quite A Long Wait for "Wait".......2001-03-04

I had to wait over a month to get this CD, but as rare as it is, it has been worth the wait. Steelheart struck a chord with me ever since I bought their debut release (my favorite). I was lucky to find "Tangled In Reins" in a used record store and it is also great (my second favorite).

However, this album is a real mix from Mr. Matijevic and his pals. If you like I'll Never Let You Go, She's Gone, All My Love and Mama Don't You Cry, then you'll like many of the songs on this release (import from Japan). The best songs on this album are: Shagrila, Garden Of Delight, Say No More, We All Die Young and the title track, Wait.

Keep in mind, these are a bit more on the ballad-ish side and not hard rockers. The rest of the songs on this album are pretty "eh" in my opinion - seemed like Mike was trying to get in on the 90's music scene with these tunes. Also, the version of All My Love on this release is also "eh."

Still, between the three releases from Steelheart, you get a lot (over 20) of great ballads and rockers. This band is largely unknown outside of I'll Never Let You Go, but they are one of my top five favorites.

4 out of 5 stars STEELHEART'S "WAIT", WHEN STYLES COLLIDE?.......1999-02-25

Michael Matijevic is a wonderful singer and songwriter. This album starts out with a pretty standard "Steelheart" sound. After that it goes all over the place. After track seven it slows down to a crawl. Please do not think I mean there's anything wrong with it. It's just very different from anything I've heard from Steelheart. It has some things in it, especially with the slower tracks, that sort of remind me of U2 but I couldn't tell you exactly what it is. This album will appeal to a lot of people, especially if they liked the first Steelheart album better than the second. The first album jumped around a bit as far as style goes as well. I would not say that any of the slow tracks could replace "I'll Never Let You Go" from the album "Steelheart". That song was so perfect for somebody of Michael Matijevic's impressive vocal range to sing that he would have to work pretty hard to top it. In summary, I think anybody that likes Steelheart, especially if they appreciate the vocals, will be able to appreciate this album. My personal favorite Steelheart remains their "Tangled in Reins". The songs were faster and more consistent. I would definitely advise everyone to check out this bands other two albums as well. As for other albums you may like if you like this band, well, starting in 1998 and moving forward into early this year there has been a phenomenal amount of activity within bands of this genre. I started cross referencing and came up with some great news! I am happy to report that Sebastian Bach (former Skid Row vocalist) has released his first solo album, and to date it is one I personally would rate as a five star album. Lizzy Borden's last release was 1995, Poison's and Quiet Riot's were 1996 so don't count them out yet. As for the rest...prepare to be surprised. The rest of these bands have new or re-released titles between 1998 and early 1999. AC/DC, Accept, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Bang Tango, Baton Rouge, Bon Jovi, Cinderella, Danger Danger, Dangerous Toys, Def Leppard, Dokken, FireHouse, Great White, Guns 'N Roses, Heavens Edge, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Kane Roberts, Kiss, Kix, L.A. Guns, Metallica, Motley Crue, Mr. Big, Ozzy Osbourne, Ratt, Saigon Kick, Scorpions, Slaughter, Sleeze Beez, Steelheart, Twisted Sister, Tyketto, Van Halen, Warrant and Whitesnake. So, to quote Quiet Riot, "Cum on Feel the Noize". (For those who are unfamiliar, that's how they spelled it on the album!

5 out of 5 stars Great. Brought to mind images of love and of a hard life........1998-12-18

I absolutely loved this cd. Matijevic has grown tremendously through the years and it really shows. The sincerity of his lyrics tells stories of his life and loves as only someone who has lived through it can. His vocal ranges are not matched by anyone, not even a woman. I recommend this cd highly.

3 out of 5 stars A curio for the fans.......2006-08-12

A little EP I bought on import years ago (remember those pre internet days?) and it really is just for the fans who are dedicated given the dearth of remarkable or groundbreaking material. This EP can perhaps be best summarised on a track by track basis.

        1) I Can't Wait - A reasonable tune with some restraint and feel but not overly awesome either. An Yngwie ballad if you know what I mean.
        2) Aftermath - A heavy rocker this one that rides a pretty good riff and groove. It's not a band song with good vocals from Michael Vescera, simple chorus and an 'end of the world' lyrical bent. But not worth the price of admission alone.
        3) Rising Force (live) - The Joe Lynn Turner era staple tune live at Budokan W/Michael Vescera. Not earth shattering but not woeful either - something a touch different for the long term fan.
        4) Far Beyond the Sun (live) - A fairly straight early 90's live run through of this awesome instrumental number from Yngwies first album. Once again OK for fans.
        5) Power and the Glory.. Takada's Theme - A new instrumental with some choral inflections. A little atmospheric and not a bad tune. But not essential either.

So there you go. A bunch of so-so tracks for the Yngwie completist. Really this was first and foremost a stop gap curio sort of release for the Japanese market and only dedicated fans need it, the more casual fan should perhaps save their cash.

        5 out of 5 stars brilliant gem.......2004-08-14

This CD is worth it for the title track alone...."I Can't Wait" is an absolutely phenomenal power ballad. Not to mention the killer guitar solo!

The live versions of "Rising Force" and "Far Beyond the Sun" are breathtaking.

The other tracks, "Aftermath" and "Power & Glory" are very good as well.

If you're an Ynwgwie fan, or a fan of melodic music, I don't know why you're waiting....buy this CD now!!

        5 out of 5 stars Blown away!!!!!.......2002-06-28

I played this as soon as I got home thinking that this would be a typical Malmsteen record until the song "I Can't Wait", started to play and I was totally blown away!!! It is like a different side of Yngwie, like a life change, you could call it, especially in the song "Aftermath" which is a hard hitting song that speaks out, buy it, listen to it, and you will know that this cd is definately a must have. I think I listened to it about a hundred times the first couple of days that I had it and the songs don't wear out like what you hear on the radio, you can't get tired of hearing this cd.

        5 out of 5 stars Its a great Yngwie "all-around" short CD.......2000-10-26

I also waited a long time for this CD. To me it was well worth the cost. I happen to like Yngwie's style of ballads - you get one of his best with this CD (title track). You also get a great rock tune (Aftermath) and great instrumental (Power and Glory). If you truely are an Yngwie fan you will be satisfied with this CD.

3 out of 5 stars Had potential to be great and falls short.......1999-09-10

I have waited a long time to get this album and I'm left feeling somewhat let down. The opening ballad isn't bad but it lacks depth and the rocker following it Aftermath does make up for the bad start. But the crowning point of the album is Power & Glory, probably one of his finest instrumentals ever. If the price was lower I would say buy it just for that track. It's worth it to me for that song alone.
