Editorial Reviews

This album of remixes from the electro-goth ensemble Clan of Xymox, using the material on their 2001 effort Notes from the Underground as a starting point, further celebrates the Clan's return to form that was ushered in by 1999's Creatures. Many songs are remixed more than once, allowing you to pick and choose between frenetic and slightly more restrained versions of songs like "Liberty," though you get a highly danceable beat either way. Remix collections are like chocolate boxes; you're never quite sure what you're going to get, and there are bound to be a few duds in the bunch. But with acts like Front 242 and Assemblage 23 on hand, this set should be more than acceptable to any Clan of Xymox fan, and a few may become dance-club favorites: Michael Balch's take on "The Bitter Sweet," for example, brims with energy and vigor. --Genevieve Williams

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars remixes for the dj's.......2005-12-15

these are remixes for the dj's. The remixes are made by a vast array of bands and I do like a lot of these mixes and especially I got hold of the special edition which included the video disc which was half an hour of insight in the band, very good.
I really like the Assemblage 23, Iris and Angels &Agony remix, they make me jump up and do something:)

5 out of 5 stars highly enjoyable.......2004-10-19

This Rob Hall review below really makes me laugh. He buys a REMIX album and what does he expect? Old Goth? hahahahahahahahaha... Clearly the guy never even heard of the word REMIX. Even in the adverts it said REMIX and REMIXED by BANDS IN THEIR OWN STYLE!!!!!!!! So if you know the bands than you know it will sound OF COURSE different than the ORIGINAL version. So lame brain of a ROB , remix , remix remix yeah , got it???? If you don't like remixes , than why even bother ? What a dope head! Anyway, I found the mixes very enjoyable , some better than others but all in all very interesting because of the interpretations of the bands who remixed COX's music in their own style and not in COX's style, so that is where the difference lies. If you want the Clan as a buffer , than just get their regular stuff although I saw you are an old fashioned dude who still live in the past and yonder. I am sure you love the Cure...the old one of course hahahah, and let me guess the sisters? good for you they never released anything new , just the way you like it I suppose? Ever heard of the word Self-righteous?
This album is highly enjoyable, especially on a night out. I think the IRIS mix is the best one. I was lucky enough to get the free Video Cd with it so I am surely not complaining whatsoever!

1 out of 5 stars Xymox fans stay clear!!!!!!!!.......2003-10-21

I did'nt even have to listen to this album to know that it sucks.Already totally hating synthpop to begin with all i had to do was look at who remixed what and was totally disgusted.Xymox has always been my security blanket against the synthpop invasion, but after hearing about and seeing this i was simply put for a lack of better words PISSED!!.If your a true Xymox fan than forget this album, but if you like techno then go ahead.

2 out of 5 stars Original much better than the remixes.......2003-09-15

I'm very disappointed in Remixes from the Underground. A few remixes are good--the first few on the CD. Then it's mostly downhill. The remix of "The Same Dream" is horrible. This was especially disapppointing because the original is terrific.

5 out of 5 stars Great remixes for a great band.......2002-06-13

Remix albums are always a dodgy affair - there's no question about that . This album though is nice and has a somewhat techno feel towards it . It makes for an intriguing goth/techno feel to it which strangely works . If you are up for hearing songs shown in a different light then by all means buy the album today . I did and I didn't regret it
