More than just a good listen... it stir the soul! .......2007-05-31
Soon as you put the CD on, you are transported to another time... another place. The music sooths, as the words spoken by the beast penetrate to the deepest part of your soul. You're emotionally spent, yet feel more alive than ever after your journey.
I bought this years ago when it first came out on Cassette (gives you an idea how long ago that was) I listened to it so many times the tape wore out. I just ordered the CD.... I can't wait for the journey to begin again...thank you Vincent!
I Loved this Show and this Album.......2006-06-09
I bought the CD today as a backup in case my original signed by Ron Perlman CD wears out. I keep waiting for the owners of this series to release at least the first 2 season on DVD. I have no interest in owning the 3rd season when the show broke my heart. I wish someone would redo this show in it's original conception as a movie or a TV series. I loved the show and was a great fan of the Love and Hope shown by Catherine and Vincent.
Of Love And Hope.......2006-04-07
Hi! I bought "Of Love & Hope" last November, through Amazon.com, and I must say, I enjoy it! However; the producers of this album, which I love, should have used another introduction instead of just the MUSIC. Why not use the main theme, where Vincent and Catherine introduce each other? THAT would have been great!! After all, Cathy was also a great character on the show!
I hereby recommend this album to all Beauty and the Beast fans out there. I have listened to it so often, that now, I can recite more poems by heart! BATB FOREVER!
Lushly Romantic!.......2005-09-04
I was a great fan of the TV series, "Beauty and the Beast" and owned the cassette version of "Of Love and Hope" in which Ron Purlman as Vincent reads poetry by Shakespeare, Lord Byron, Shelly, Rilke and other greats, interspersed with beautiful music, mostly from the soundtrack of the series. As I love beautiful music and beautiful words, I counted this tape among my treasures. When the tape eventually became damaged, I truly was distraught. I am delighted to now own the CD, which brought me instant pleasure which can only continue for the rest of my life.
Moves me to tears..........2005-07-06
I actually have this on cassette, bought years ago before television network executives butchered this incredibly beautiful show, and dug it out of storage recently. Interestingly enough, I found that I had forgotten none of it. Never has music spoken so eloquently to my heart, nor represented a television show so clearly and wonderfully. Ron Perlman's "Vincent" voice, interpreting the classical literary selections in this, is sensual, articulate, undeniably romantic. It's one of the most unusual collections of music and poetry I've ever come across, a fitting and fine representation of the show.
My favorite is the opening theme of the series, with lyrics sung and "Vincent's" "No one, not even the rain, has such small hands" intonation.
The television show and it's tragic, other-worldly love story was too perfect to last long on tv. I'm glad that fans such as myself have been able to hold onto rememberances of the show such as this marvelous, sweeping score. I only wish that it could be re-released on Cd, along with dvds of the series. Fans have been keeping the magic alive all these years; it's time we were recognized.

F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.!.......2006-02-02
I've got the original music (including v2 and v3), the books (the best is Heitland's The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Book; still in print);
the 22 VHS tapes issued in the early 1990's (a haphazard collection issued in no particular order of episodes that boasted famous guest stars). Can I please get the whole series on DVD? I have not seen Mother Fear toying with Illya (The Children's Day Affair) in over 40 years.
At LAST the complete series ORIGINAL soundtrack, the wait is over!.......2005-07-12
Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.
Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.
And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.
Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.
This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.
Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.
So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

Often compared to Elvis Costello, with whom he shares certain smoky vocal intonations, John Wesley Harding is working along the lines of another of his heroes, Bruce Springsteen. This collection, which puts one in mind of Springsteen's forays into acoustic music, features traditional folk songs recorded by the obscure but respected folksinger Nic Jones. (Jones withdrew from public performing following a 1982 car accident.) With little more than acoustic guitars and occasional accordion, Harding lights into ageless tales of unrequited love in which women are maidens and men are sailors forever lost at sea. Recorded over three days in a Seattle studio, Trad Arr Jones is a deceptively simple, powerfully immediate collection that casts its creator firmly in the troubadour tradition. --Rob O'Connor
Customer Reviews:
Punk sings Childe ballads, seaman songs, and other folk.......2006-03-23
Instant goose bumps. Think Elvis Costello or a young Graham Parker singing Childe ballads, seaman songs, English plainsong, and folk rounds with spare accompaniment (variously guitar, mandolin, accordion). Think punks singing their tattoos away at the end of a night of beery-good fellowship. Think Manchester street toughs finding grace and a way home to a world before machines, struggling wity heightened human feelings of yearning, frailty, heartbreak, and about death. Think a regular guy finding English folk in his blood, but no standard folk way to let it out.
Tracks 12-15 use a full electric band and are characteristic of his other work. But they work well here too. [73:18]
This CD is better in its case than in the player.......2003-05-02
A total waste of possible talent, this CD is just awful on so many levels. Wes is off-key in many of the songs, and his voice is unconvincing and irregular. In theory this album is a good idea, but the execution is so painful. I've really tried to get into this CD, but in the end, I taped it to the ceiling in my office, so nobody has to listen to it.
Mesmerizing.......2000-03-18
I have been a fan of Wes for years, but this album exceeded my expectations. These songs are incredible, giving credit to Nic Jones, and the interpretations are wonderful as well. Now I want to go get more of the original work of Nic Jones, if it weren't out of print.
Buy this album - you won't regret it.
A real gem.......2000-01-16
I first heard Litle Musgrave on KPFT, Houston Community Radio, on the way to work. So different, a wonderful story line, perfectly executed. I immediately ordered two copies of the CD, one for myself, one for my son-in-law as a Christmas present. The entire repertoire on this album is to the same high standard as Little Musgrave. This has been a wonderful introduction to the Nic Jones style and I shall be delving further into this type of music. Highly recommended!
A must for fans of Wes and/or trad. English folk music.......2000-01-09
This is an excellent collection of tunes. The arrangements are sparse(usually just guitar and vocal) but quite beautiful. The respect and love that Wes has for these songs and the underappreciated Nic Jones really comes through in the music.

Six high-quality songs.......2005-04-04
The Good
Weiner starts things off with the slow and melodic opener "Andonova" to put you at ease. Once you're nice and comfortable, he hits you with the up-tempo rocker "Long Run"; a track that's loaded with lots of percussive and keyboard effects, not to mention Dave's blistering solos and penetrating licks. The metal worthy "Monument Shine" has a Vai influenced guitar tone to it and plenty of meaty riffage. "The Ghost of Denmark St." is a ballad that's delivered with precision, emotion, and a couple of charging solos.
"Tourmaline" combines acoustic rhythms with electric soloing. The programmed drum track on "Shove the Sun Aside" almost sounds like a dance or rap track. Weiner lays down some funk style licks over some fuzzy riffs. The song continues to bring you up and down with its changing tempo and soundscapes. There's a brief bonus live track that concludes the album.
The Bad
Six songs is not a full album.
The Verdict
Dave Weiner may be Steve Vai's wingman, but he could easily go it along. They say that quality wins over quantity; Weiner's debut may only contain six songs, but they are six high-quality songs.
Weiner Unleashed.......2005-04-02
I have to agree with the previous review on how great it is that Dave Weiner got released on a record label to get him publicity. Vai fans know him as the talented guitarist that tours with Vai. Now, not only Vai fans, but also other fans as well can enjoy Dave's talent in a different form, his own. His use of the seven string guitar allows him to create beautiful melodies as well as rock with low, hard notes. He has the perfect blend of speed, technique and musical talent. Unlike some thrasher guitarist, he uses his speed when it is needed best, not ALL OF THE TIME. He fills the time between fast riffs with slow accentuated riffs that enhance the melody behind it, not drone it out. I definitely recommend this CD if your are a Vai/ Satriani fan, particularly the song "Monument Shine."
pretty good.......2005-03-27
first off, its about bloody time that favored nations (vai) picked up this record, giving it real accessibility. let's get real, how many records are you really going to sell off of a personal website using paypal & money orders?
dave trys to break away from the stereotype of being a impersonal shredder, striving for a melodic approach with limited guitar fireworks. the song structures are pretty good and show some variety. i get the feeling that in his effort to not be like yngwie, whos done the same song about 80 million times, he overrestrains and doesnt have enough fun with it. there are some great moments though, my fav. song is definitely "monument shine". tonally, dave has some work to do...his tone doesnt vary much. its not bad tone, but its not eric johnson tone that minimizes the need for variety either.
overall, its a good first outing. dave's conservative approach shows that he's really thinking and that he's not going to put out something unless it really has some depth. check him out on the real illusions tour...his solo moment, while ridiculously small (::cough cough:: vai's a ballhog live), will knock your socks off. expect awesome things from this man. buy the album and support a great new talent.

Album Description
Veil Of Maya are a group of talented musicians who play melodic metal the way it should be played. Hailing from just outside Chicago IL they have been playing around the Mid West for about a year and have gained a following of metal and hardcore fans alike playing shows alongside Dead To Fall, Hewhocorrupts, Animosity, Ed Gein, Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza, The Warriors and more. The band's self released demo moved hundreds of copies with just word of mouth and online sales. The memebers of VOM have quit jobs and school to hit the road full time. Thus far already touring alongside HARLOTS, CARNIVALE, and AFTER THE BURIAL. The band is quickly creating a strong fan base with their live shows, strong work ethic and of course the internet buzz.
Customer Reviews:
Mark My Words This album is great!.......2007-01-06
These guys are simply put great.A friend of mine recommended them to me he said they were like a Deathcore version of my favorite band Misery Signals i was quite intrigued so I downloaded their song "All Things Set Aside". Needless to say I was amazed after nearly a month of just listening to that one song. Christmas was fast approaching...I think you know where this is going.Anyway a few days after Christmas my cd arrived(because ebay is so damn slow) along with The Taste Of Bloods Predator album which I also highly recommend. I Know I have terrible punctuation please overlook this.
Anyway I eagerly popped in the cd and as "The Uprising" began I knew I was in for more than just another standard metalcore album. As Melodic guitar and odd drum patterns that blend together quite nicely it filled me with delight.Soon after the 1:31 opening "Entry Level Exit Wounds" kicked in with a nice little guitar riff, then into an awesome growl, from vocalist Adam Clemens, and blazing drums from Sam Applebaum ,accompanied by the great guitar playing from Mark Okubo. The breakdown in this song is very brutal yet melodic at the same time. "Entry Level Exit Wounds" contains some of the smartest lyrics about drug addiction i've ever had the pleasure to read."Your World Of Lies" opens up once again with a nice guitar riff and odd drumming. This is the longest song on the album and very memorable however it also has some very typical lyrics about religion, despite this flaw it is still a great song. At about 4:40 the song really begins to shine as the guitars are very melodic and the drums are very nice."Mark My Words" opens up with an orgasmic guitar riff before going into a typical deathcore verse with the vocalist screaming "You are the destroyer!,The one and Only!" at about the 2 minute mark we hit a nice breakdown complemented by pounding drums and a very guttural growl,it ends with a chant of "Mark My Words You Are Dead!" which leads flawlessly into the song that introduced me to Veil Of Maya the album titled "All Things Set Aside" Which opens up very brutally with pounding drums and a lovely guitar riff along with a nice scream. This is probably one of the most melodic songs on the album and a highlight at around 2:35 a nice breakdown hits and ends the song nicely."Indefinite Bloodlust" opens with a very nice growl and pounding drums this is probably the most "brutal" song of the album as a lot of death metal influence is shown here.Melody breaks in about 1:30 to break up the brutalness of it it continues to stay melodic til about 2:35 where the straight forward deathmetalness reigns once again til the 3:00 mark where some of the most odd guitar riffs are used, they sound like they could fit into in old school 80s metal song but that just makes it so much cooler while the retroness ends much later and ends in true deathmetal fashion."Sever The Voices" is another highlight track of the album the guitar is very erratic in this song and dual vocals are also used quite alot although not as much as the last track on the album, some amazing guitar around the 2:00 minute mark a very Misery Signalsish riff kickins in around the 3:00 minute mark and continues til about 3:30 in which brutality once reigns until the last 30 seconds of the song where more melody ends the track."The Black Funeral March" kicks in with dual vocals blazing drums and then within the next 5 seconds the melody kicks in.This song makes very good use of dual vocals although I don't think this will translate well into live performances.Very impressive drumming at around 1:20.At around 3:20 Adam Growls out "This is not the end!" and that is definitely true as i expect to see these guys getting big within the next couple of years. There is a hidden track entitled "The Session" i'm going to tell you what it is but its rather odd yet nicely done.
In Conclusion Veil Of Maya is a very original, awesome band of guys who just wanna make music and they do it nicely. Its sad that so many people will never hear these "All Things Set Aside" because it's going to be overshadowed by cookiecutter bands that worry more about fashion than music.I hope my review persuades someone to buy this cd, because you will not be disappointed.
The hidden track is called "The Session." The band told me, personally!.......2006-12-29
If you take a waffle iron, some Styrofoam popcorn, and a sledgehammer, and cover them all in WD-40, what do you get? Beats me, but I can tell you this: if you listen to Veil of Maya, you still might not get the answer to that question, but you'll sure have one hell of a good listen!
Demolishing flurries of pulverizing guitar riffs and oddly-timed drum rhythms (which change so many times in any given song, you're more likely to keep track of how many times Courtney Love gets arrested!), death metal vocals that throttle you with their vicious attack...all the makings of a great tech-death release. Highly recommended for fans of PsyOpus, Necrophagist, Gorguts, Origin, or even Meshuggah or the Dillinger Escape Plan.
And no, Veil of Maya are NOT a rip-off of (or tribute band to) Cynic! They sound NOTHING alike, and besides everything else, the term "veil of maya" is an ancient Hindu term.
Now be the first person on your block to get this album. You won't regret it.

An eye-opening Prokofiev survey (try to buy it used).......2006-03-26
I can't see paying full price for a two-CD compensdium, even one as lavish as this package, when all the itmes are samples for promoting Universal's catalog (expect a good representation by Ashkenazy, Rostropovich, Previn, and Gergiev). But the selection is good enough and often rare eough to warrant a buy if the price is low.
As I listened straight through, I was surprised at how unacquainted I actually was with the wide extent of Prokofiev's style. From the very early "Dreams," which could be mistaken for Glazunov through the unfamiliar operas (Betrothal in a Monastery Garden, Semyon Kotko) to the final, sadly diminished works like the Seventh Sym. and the cello concerto, the composer covered every major Russian style of the century. I didn't find any new masterful performances--not that a short excerpt is a good enough trial--but everything here is well performced. Any listener should find something unexpected and intriguing in this two-and-a-half-hour traversal.

Customer Reviews:
Rock and Roll's Savior.......2007-06-01
All Envy Aside could be the saviors of rock and roll. With the recent release of current "music", it was looking as if Rock was dead. And then they showed up.... Starting out in Wisconsin, they quickly acquired fame and won the MTVU's best band award. They then moved on to play the main stage at Summerfest and other big venues. Think of them as a heavy Fiction Plane (if you've heard of them) or Led Zepplin (and I'm not just saying that, they really sound like Zepplin sometimes). Let's start with the singer, Amanda: WHAT AN AMAZING VOICE! You simply have to hear her and you will quickly be amazed. Then there's the drummer and bassist, Nic and Brian: as a beginning musician, I think these two will quickly become two of my influences. Follow this up with Jaek and Dan, who are two of the greatest guitarists known to man, throwing out riffs and solos from the Guitar Gods themselves that range from soft melodic melodies to hard-edged Rock madness! If you're having trouble deciding whether or not to get their albums and wanna hear any of this to see what I mean, just head over to their website.
