4 out of 5 stars Great Guitar Based New Rock.......2005-12-13

There were so many different sounds from these guys. Some folks here have alluded to Bono and others. In the final track (one of my four favorites) there was even a hint of Freddy Mercury in the quiet, haunting start of "Midnight Luna."

I don't get why we didn't hear more from these guys before. Someone needs to turn XM radio onto these guys and get them some airplay. Some of these for me were "three star songs," but the ones that got to me are at the top of their genre.

This album kickstarts with "Bardo," but it's not the heavily distorted screaming that you find so often in modern young guitar based bands. And I was swept away by the intricate fretwork by the low guitar on "Gorgeous." What a song! "Chasing Zen" was another of my favorites on this album.

In short, this music needs to be spread by letter campaign and by community radio. Let's get it out there.

4 out of 5 stars Sounds like ...........2003-07-06

Ok, so I read all three reviews/comments of this great CD. I must tell you, I will disagree with (again) the topic of the most-seeked song "Star" ...When I first heard it (and yes, I too did hear it for the first time at the end of the movie "Dragonfly") I could have SWORN it was the group Remy Zero singing this song (you know, the guys whose song "Save Me" is featured on the TV Show "Smallville"). Although, it does somewhat sound like Bono (in his early years) ...somewhat of a hint of the ring of his extraordinary voice. But nothing like Radiohead (sorry Mike... I just don't hear it .. listen to Remy Zero and you'll see what I mean). =)
In spite of it all... they are a really cool band. I really like their CD.

I'll have to disagree with both of you. Great CD but the song Star sounds like Radiohead way more than U2 or Jimmie Eat World.

4 out of 5 stars Zoo Story sounds like James, U2, J.E.W........2002-09-26

I also heard the song "Star" at the end of the movie "Dragonfly" while in the theatre. Unlike Melissa (who thought it sounded like U2), I truly thought the song was going to be listed as by "James". James is one of the bands that you don't hear a lot of people talk about as a popular band, but it is solid and sounds like Jimmy Eat World and that kind of music. Try them both all, and enjoy ! *

4 out of 5 stars U2 Fans Will LOVE This!.......2002-09-07

I bet money when I heard this song at the end of the movie "Dragonfly" that the song "Star" was off a new U2 CD. I was so wrong - Amen to a group that is comparable to the great U2. I swear, you could hear Bono singing and Edge on guitar! Do not bet money that the song "Star" is U2!!

Zoo Story: a fantastic four-piece band from Los Angeles that was formed in 1999 and separated in early 2003. After being signed to 333 Records, a junior label of Universal Music, the band suffered from the political turmoil that ensued between 333 and the little support given it by its parent Universal, as did every other 333 recording act. The first single from the album, "Star," was helped by director Tom Shadyac, who featured it in the closing credits of his film "Dragonfly," starring Kevin Costner. Although "Star" did not get any national radio support money from Universal, the film has reached millions of people throughout the world, thus creating an independent and loyal international fan base for the band. "Star" has become a defining song in many listener's lives, and the album is the must-have record among today's top musicians, being used as a reference for production and songwriting. The band featured Randy Coleman on Vocals and Guitars, Carlos Rivera on Guitars, Nick Sample on Bass, and Kevin Shepard on Drums. CONTENTS: 1. Manta Ray 2. Blind Sympathy 3. Star 4. Gorgeous 5.
