About the Artist
Daniel Mackenzie performed at a couple of talent shows in high school, but it wasn't until he matriculated at Brown University that he actually put his own ska band together, called "The Casuals," and moved on to power-trio Miklos Factor. Dan also bought a bass and played a few gigs backing up Lisa Loeb.

Under the tutelage of unwitting mentors Joni Mitchell, Sting, Tom Waits and his more recent favorite Ani DiFranco, Dan began honing his chops as a solo acoustic performer and writing more lyrically direct songs. Daniel Mackenzie's first album, "Shakytown" aired on KCRW's "Weekend Becomes Eclectic," and had songs featured On SHO's "The Chris Isaak Show," WB's "Popular" and FOX Family's "Higher Ground."

Daniel Mackenzie's subsequent project, "Good Things," was released in September 2003 by Universal Records in the Philippines (of all places!) In early 2003, as Mackenzie began work on his third album, he was hired to write, produce and perform a theme song for the new Discovery Channel program MONSTER HOUSE, and is the sole composer for the show. A new album of songs from MONSTER HOUSE was released by Discovery/Original Productions in time for the 2003 Holidays.

5 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect...........2007-06-10

I absolutely LOVE this soundtrack and movie! However, does anyone know what song is briefly playing when Micheal starts talking about moving to New York City and it cuts to a picture of him with a "I Love New York" shirt and then cuts to him in Grand Central station? If anyone knows I would really appreciate it!

5 out of 5 stars Party Monster ROCKS!!.......2007-05-15

If you are into club music of any kind, you will love this CD... I have it playing on my Sony Bean while I run on the treadmill and it motivates me to run faster. Ha-ha I am also a HUGE Marilyn Manson fan, and it was an added plus to have a Manson, but-not-so-Manson-like song on there. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

This CD is absolutely addicting there is no doubt about it! I often keep it in my cd player for days on end just listening to it on a cycle. You can just cruise and have it playing in the background or blast it and sing like an idiot with the music. Its just so damn catchy its rediculous.....

5 out of 5 stars Great compilation.......2007-02-07

I though I owned all the Halloween music to be found. But this one has some new ones and old ones done differently. I highly recommend it.

2 out of 5 stars Good memories spoilt.......2006-12-27

The title of the CD is "Scary" but don't be fooled. The only thing frightening is that someone might be suckered by the reputation of the conductor and some fond childhood memories into spending good money for this crud.

While there are a couple of admirable tributes to classic horror theme songs, the cheesy vocals on Addams Family, Ghostbusters, Monster Mash, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Beware of the Blob and Thriller relegate this disc to the trash bin.

Instead of this, I'd recommend Nosferatu (James Bernard), Chiller (Cincinnati Pops), Fantastic Journey (Cincinnati Pops, also - more SciFi than horror, though) and Classics From the Crypt (RCA Victor). All available here.

4 out of 5 stars Superbly Bizarre.......2005-03-03

All I can say is wow- kitschy and delightful in a way. Though the "Thriller" is disturbing. But how can you deny the "Killer Tomatoes"? I mean, how can you??

4 out of 5 stars Great music yet lacking passion..........2006-12-20

I'll admit the only reason I ran out of the theater to buy this CD was not because of all the music in the movie. All I really was interested in was the opening titles and eliza's song. I was really impressed with those tracks and had to have them in my collection of music. After listening to those I was a little unimpressed with the rest of the album but over time it grew on me. Now I consider it my favorite soundtrack for 2006. Its a well rounded musical journey. With lots of splashes.

3 out of 5 stars where is siouxsie?.......2006-07-31

Where is the great "Halloween" by the even greater "Siouxsie and the Banshees" that plays during the closing credits?

    5 out of 5 stars Alan.......2006-07-27

Okay, maybe it's because Doug was my roommate for many years, or maybe because he was the best man at my wedding... but this CD is awesome! i give it two enthusiastic thumbs up.

5 out of 5 stars The Monster House .......2006-07-18

Not really a scary film score, The Monster House is more of an adventure/scary/action packed score. Mostly just background music, some tracks are long but some are really short, one track being 42 seconds. This score gives you a clear image on how the movie is going to be like, I'm eager myself to see it when it comes out for listening to this. Well organized, this soundtrack is recommended.

    1. Opening/Titles 5/5
    2. Eliza's Song 4/5 (Funny)

5 out of 5 stars Where did this come from? .......2006-12-16

I have to admit, my interest in all things techno has waned a bit in the last few years. I rarely go to clubs anymore, and I pretty much never buy records...it just seemed like it was all the same ideas, the same sounds, the same basslines, repeated ad infinitum. So I was more than pleasantly surprised when I heard We Are Monster.

The ten tracks on this release are more like actual songs, each one individual and unique, yet adding up to a coherent and consistent whole. And even though Isolee gained a reputation for producing what is termed "microhouse"- tracks that move along at midtempo, change subtlely and are all small gestures- that is only a starting point here. He throws in elements of dub, grime, electro, techno, even an acoustic guitar, yet it never feels like a stretch, it all comes together effortlessly. No easy task, yet one Isolee pulls off incredibly well.

Constantly surprising and always enjoyable, We Are Monster reminds me why I got into this music in the first place, and why, all these years later, I keep coming back.
