Customer Reviews:
Mindblowing Melodic Technical Death Metal.......2006-10-25
I could not be any happier than the moment I discover this amazing talented band. Anata is a band that has their signature sound, with the technicality of bands like Cryptopsy and Necrophagist and mixing it in with the melody of bands like At The Gates and Hypocrisy. The production fits well with this album, and the riffs and lead guitars will mark a memory in your mind. Make sure to pick up this album if you like your metal melodic and technical.
The listener ecstatic!.......2005-06-02
Righty Right. This cd is absolutely amazing. Extremely solid is an understatement. This album has the most innovative and fluid guitar movement. I think the verse and chorus guitar work is phenomenal. Then Schalin and Allenmark glide right into the slickest sounding guitar solos. These guys have practiced, a lot! The overall equalization of the album is perfect. This album is a great buy (I even got mine for 8 new, i would have paid so much more for it as well). Seriously, this is an album that you should not pass up.
Anata is..........2005-02-11
a highly underrated band in the underground scene today.
This band is not technical for the sake of being technical like many Swedish bands. They have that kind of technicality that, like Cryptopsy, is way beyond the others.
Faith,Hope, Self Deception, The Enigma of Number Three and The Temple Erratic are worthy the admission price alone. Sit back and relax. This amazing band will take you to a ride in the deepness of darkness like no other.
A true masterpiece until the end.
Impressive..........2004-10-24
Actullie, i just heard about anata and i was quite impress by "dreams of death & dismay" which had great production and techinicality...Out of this world. A must've if you into pure deathmetal that does not dissapoint, at all. I higly recommend.
Yes, amazing!.......2004-07-20
Wow, realy amazing and a brutal release by anata with killer pounding drums and one sick vocalist! F*cking insane plus the production makes the whole album worth a while.Buy it!

Customer Reviews:
The best possible case for a rarely performed work.......2001-06-10
Brahms composed his Magelone cycle for a baritone (Julius Stockhausen, a good friend of the composer), yet the tessitura is almost tenor-like in some of the songs. Christoph Pregardien is a tenor with a baritone-like boom in his voice (as well as all the required low notes), hence he is an ideal interpreter of this warmly romantic song-cycle, as is clearly demonstrated on this disc. He and fortepianist Andreas Staier encompass all the varied emotions of this cycle. Youthful impetuosness and ecstasy, pensive reflection, tenderness, warm contentedness, despair, confusion, doubt, and quiet joy are all projected with utmost vividness, flowing tempi, and great variety of articulation (helped by the fortepiano) and dynamics. The inclusion of Vanessa Redgrave as a narrator (what warmth her voice has!) helps to make sense out of these songs, which are (in essence) lyric reflections of a "missing" narrative (unlike Schubert's "Die schöne Müllerin" and "Winterreise" where the songs themselves tell the story). This is by far the best interpretation of this song-cycle I've encountered (surpassing even Peter Schreier's recording). Anyone interested in Brahms or Lieder (or both) should acquire this CD without delay!

Customer Reviews:
Fun spin.......2000-10-31
Wuorinen's Fenton Songs are fantastic and they alone justify the cost of this disc. Also worthy here--Anderson's Ear Conception is very beautiful. Robert Pollock's Cygnature Piece is great fun. Chester Biscardi's precious little guitar duo I found very memorable. Among the good natured fluff on this recording--for me John Halle's Spooks stands out.
The Most Interesting Ensemble I've Ever Heard.......2000-10-20
The Cygnus ensemble consists of guitars, mandolines, violin, cello, flute and oboe. They play regularly in New York City, and they have toured in Holland, Denmark, Poland, Russia, Mexico and the U.S. Because their instrumentation is absolutely unique most of their music was written for them, and in the case of the Braxton piece, they are improvising to a large extent.
Sebastian Currier's Broken Consort is the title track, it's a fun piece with Stravinskian drive, building to almost cacophonic density before subsiding into a very beautiful ending. I like the opening which builds up to a V-I, a grand joke on the scale of Phillip Johnson's AT&T building with its big chippendale on the top.
John Halle's piece is fun and sparkling with very inventive textures and subversive machinations. It is very well put together--despite its outward charm and excessibility Halle's movement from one section to the next is quite sophisticated and compelling.
Wuorinen's Fenton Songs--if you've ever been told that Wuorinen's music is academic this will cure you of that impression. These are four lush, deep, penetrating settings of poems by the great British poet who writes so often for the NY Review of Books.
Biscari's guitar duo, Resisting Stillness, is gorgeous with wonderful unison pitches between the instruments and rich chordal textures.
David Lang's Frag is a bizarre little experiment for oboe, flute and cello.
Anderson's septet (cygnus joined by a glass harmonica) is in two movements, the first being very Roccoco with too beautiful harmonies swirling about with guitar filigree interlaced among the sustaining instruments. The second movement is faster and it builds into surprising contrapuntal patterns which become ever more light and fleet until the end.
Anthony Braxton's piece is largely improvisatory. It is fun when you learn to let go of all expectations about what music is supposed to do and just go along for the ride. It's a happening, frozen in magnetic media.
Robert Pollock's Cygnature Piece is rollicking and very witty, yet despite its being perfectly accessible, Pollock's language here is very new, and often surprising.
