Where do I start? Okay all you Michael Ball fans out there. If you do not have this album, I have two words for you: BUY IT! This is simply his best album. I have several of Michael's previous records, but this one is his finest work yet. From "Walking in Memphis",to "If tomorrow never comes", his voice hits every note, every word with the most pure, clear, beautiful voice.This one is a must have for all the micahel fans (but I'm sure you knew that already right?)

When I was browsing at the Music Store, lookin for an artist that i dont like and i am very specific one when it comes to a great music that i never heard before. So I picked up Michael Ball Symphony royal hall Concert. and I listen to it. I was very impress about him. So i started to ask my friends that are music lover just like me. They never heard him before. So I let them listen to it and they said, Michael has a soothing and powerful voice. Michael Ball is going to be One of the wonderful voice in the whole world with Linda Elder, Michael Crawford.

Too few singers take chances with their music; preferring to stick with what works. They try to reinforce what they do best, while throwing out an occasional track that deviates from their norm, merely to placate critics.

This CD again demonstrates the versatility of Michael Ball in a performance that combines subtlety and power with orchestration and interpretations that only a first-class vocalist can deliver.

I have the added benefit of having watched the videotaped performance of Michael performing these songs; the intensity of Ball's performance so clearly seen in the video, translates equally well into the music on the CD. Seldom does a vocalist make the transition from the power of Broadway's showtunes to the streets of American country music as smoothly, stylishly and emotionally as Michael Ball. His romantic rendition of the classic, "The First Time Ever I Saw Her Face" is one of the few I've heard that can stand up to Roberta Flack's soulful masterpiece. And Michael's showmanship and joy of performing is clearly in evidence in a truly rousing delivery of "Walking in Memphis."

Singers often evolve into vocalists, with their style and interpretive ability leading the way. The truly great vocalists explore beyond their strengths; expanding their musical horizons and their talents to encompass music they enjoy, offering their version of classics and new material, leading the listener into a new world of performance, trusting in the talent of the artist. Few - if any - of today's musical talents can equal Michael Ball's combination of talent, vocal power, musical styling and stage presence. "This Time It's Personal" - in both CD and video - proves this beyond a shadow of a doubt. Michael may have ventured into new ground with this album, and while I'll never get enough of his work with Broadway scores, I'll eagerly await his next venture into the next chapter of his "personal" musical evolution.

Golden Voice in New Tunes.......2002-02-05

If you think Michael Ball is only good at showcasing big musical numbers and belting out high notes, you should listen to this album. The same Michael Ball will give you different feelings and you probably will re-look some of the songs that you've already known for a long time. I have to say that Michael's singing is mesmerizing. His exquisite vocal delivery and empathy with the songs contributed the best to the artistic appealing of this album.

For the first time Michael tried his voice in American country tunes, and it is surprisingly good. Songs like "If Tomorrow Never Comes", "The Dimming of the Day", and "The Dance" simply couldn't get better. "You Bring the Best Out of Me", which is a song specifically written for Michael by Paul Carrack, is a song about the singer himself. The words are very sincere and Michael sings it with such emotions and true feelings. Michael co-authored two songs in the album. They cannot be more different in their styles. "Just When" is a touching romantic love song, flowing smoothly. "Never Coming Back", with its story-telling approach and deep punchy rhythm, expresses the feelings of struggling and desperation. A little surprise comes from Andrew Lloyd Webber's "No Matter What", for which Boyzone already set the standard with their version. There is no doubt that Michael gave this song his unique charm by adding his personal touch in it.

This is an album that is well produced and packaged. The orchestration, the sound mixing, and the recording are superb. You won't regret for every penny you spend. Please do yourself a favor after a whole day's of work: light the candles, get a glass of wine, and enjoy the wonderfulness Michael brings to you.

...the worst album I have ever heard in my entire life.

I was a great fan of Michael Ball's when his career was focused on the musical stage, but his move (and subsequent albums) to the pop arena left me cold. As well as being a fan of musical theater, I also adore country music. So, when I found out that Michael Ball had made a "country" album, my curiosity was piqued.

First of all, this is not country music. These are covers of songs originally recorded by country artists. This CD would not be considered country in Nashville, Minneapolis, Branson or even Vegas. The last, however, seems the most likely home for this CD. Gone is the simple and clear emotional renderings of the original artists. Instead, the sorry souls listening are subjected to over-orchestrated arrangements created, to my best guess, to hide the fact that Mr. Ball's once incredible range has all but disappeared and years of smoking and vocal misuse have wreaked havoc on his vocal chords.

Great Album!.......2005-04-27

This is my favorite "drummer album," in fact, I think the music is good/strong enough that I rarely ever think of it as a "drummer album." It's About Time showcases what Manu does best-play tasteful grooves in his own unique way. Those people expecting some "chops-fest" will be dissapointed, but those who like tasteful drumming will not. "Silence" is my favorite track on the album and is the quintessential Manu track and I think it probably alone is worth the price of the disc. It does not hurt that Sting and Peter Gabriel lent their voices to this track. When you travel in the same company as Sting, Peter Gabriel, Joni Mitchell and Julia Fordham, like Manu does, your efforts are bound to be worthwhile. This record also contains lovely bass work by Pino Palladino- one of the best places to find him on record. Manu and Pino together are an amazing rhythm team and as natural as tasty as PB&J.

Minimal Exhibition of Drumming Skills.......2002-05-27

I have several solo albums done by my favorite drummers, and while my main complaint about these albums is that they tend to over-emphasize the other talents of the drummers (usually singing), they at least contain one track where he/she shows off his/her talents that made him/her famous in the first place. Unfortunately, this CD does not contain even one track fitting this description. For example, Katche's playing on Julia Fordham's "Manhattan Skyline" alone shows more chops than this whole album. The songwriting and musicians on the CD are decent enough, but keep searching if you're looking for what makes Katche special.

manu's the best; but...........2000-10-07

My only prior experience with Manu's work has been the "Secret World Live" video and I fell head over heels. His playing is accurate, intricate, and amazing at all times. But the lyrical content on this solo album hit me as being very light and emotionlally lacking. Also, the playing on the album is far less than what this man is capable of.I'm a huge fan of Dennis Chambers,Vinnie Caliauta,Billy Cobham etc... I bought this CD on-line as soon as I knew it existed thanks to Amazon.com but was real disappointed. I'd be unendingly grateful for someone to steer me toward whatever else Manu's done that's of the same caliber as his mind-boggling performance on Secret World.Let me know at fullerl68@hotmail.com.

nice record. fresh, french pop. Pino's(bass) playing is exemplary. of course, Manu has more "feel" than he gets credit sometimes. songs have nice anticipation and flow. buy this cd....you will enjoy.....

If you are a fan of Manu , this is a MUST HAVE. It is not a Zildjian endorsing CD. Manu plays in the pocket , and is backed up by master players such as Pino,Dominic,Simon, and David. The compositions are tasty and texturous. BUY THIS CD. TURN IT ON TO YOUR FRIENDS.

A beautifully balanced session.......2005-04-28

Musically and technically, this is a beautifully balanced session in every way.

On the initial listening, it can be a bit disconcerting to hear Monk soloing on the first track through the right channel only. When the other players come in on both channels, however, it becomes obvious that the instruments have been appropriately separated for a very "live" effect. The program material is also very balanced, providing three originals and three standards. The format ranges from Monk's solo interpretations of two ballads to the full quartet treatment on the medium up-tempo tunes, and the best-of-both-worlds long piano intro and finish on "Lulu's Back in Town." This is a truly outstanding interpretation of a tune Monk performed frequently. Everyone plays with focused, elegant confidence throughout.

This CD could serve as a starting point for exploring Monk's music. If you're already a fan, it might be a very worthwhile addition to your collection.

This is the one Monk album Wynton Marsalis picked for his ten examples of "real jazz" in Sweet Swing Blues on the Road (p 140).

An Unsung Gem!.......2003-01-03

This is an excellent Monk album. And saying that means alot, since most Monk recordings are outstanding. But this is an unsung gem, which in their blindness (once again!) Columbia/Sony has not re-issued on disc.
So, leave it for another country to see the beauty here and re-issue it.
We are lucky they did! I've got it in the old LP format and had been looking for it for years on CD.
If you love Monk, don't miss this one. One of his best with some hard to find tunes. Five stars!!!!!

Monk was an amazing composer, but he did not write 150 compositions. I believe his book is 70 or tunes.

I love Lulu.......2002-07-28

It took more than twenty years for a wider public to discover Monk's music and gain any kind of general popularity, witnessed by his Time Magazine cover. Performed here with his 60's sidemen, they never sounded better. Although there were 150# Monk compositions, the great humor of "Lulu's Back in Town" remains my favorite from this period. It may be that I saw him perform at the Village Gate (with Charles Lloyd on the same bill) around the time of this release and this has smething to do with it. This is a wonderful place to start listening to Monk.
