5 out of 5 stars WHY haven't we heard of these guys before?.......2005-06-07

That's what a friend of mine emailed back after I loaned him my copy. (The answer to the question is probably that they never got airplay on the East Coast.) Absolutely sensational early rock, fusing from different genres and diverting toward eventual others. Simultaneously united and divergent, and it all still sounds fresh today. Everyone I've played it for loves it. Plus, one of the two bonus tracks proves that an accordion can rock. (AND, they toured in the Packard limousine on the cover, but that's a separate story...) Flash forward, April '05: they just played again in New Orleans for the first time in 45yrs! How cool is that? Do yourself a favor and order a copy!!

5 out of 5 stars GREAT GREAT GREAT.......2003-12-03

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST IF NOT THE BEST EXAMPLE OF EARLY ROCK CD'S. THE MUSIC IS WELL WRITTEN PLAYED BY A BAND THAT HAS THE FEEL OF THE SONG AND ERA. ALL OF THE SONGS SOUND GREAT TODAY. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE. ARE THERE ANY OTHER CD'S BY THE GROUP?

5 out of 5 stars A Remembrance for the "Chili" Song.......2001-08-23

My family literally grew up listening to this album. My father, Abe Levine, a retired Denver Police Officer, wrote the 1st track, I Love to Eat Chili in Chile, inspired (believe it or not) by my mother's famous chile! It is a delight to see this album re-released on CD. This is a great nostalgic album surely to delight listeners who grew up in the 50s.

5 out of 5 stars On The Road With Rock 'N Roll.......2000-06-01

Mando & the Chili Peppers were excellent musicians and entertainers. This record is a good example of the music that made them a popular touring band in the 1950s. A nice mixture of R&B and Rock & Roll. This album is a classic that all oldies fans should have.

5 out of 5 stars exellent, nostalgic, latino music of the late 50's.......1999-08-10

I REMEMBER when they recorded this album. They were on the road.Mando is my brother. It makes me proud that his music &articles are in the University of Texas along with other latino artists that started a new wave of music in South Texas.

Album Description

This is an Ian Charles Band CD. It carries from the stage the sound of Electric and Acoustic Guitars Blending into a Country, Rock, and Folk styled collection reminiscent of The Late sixties period of the Rolling Stones, The Byrds, or the Beatles. With a poetic lyrical style coming from Bob Dylan or most recently Son Volt's Jay Farrar.

4 out of 5 stars Soul that walks a different path.......2000-05-04

If variety is the spice of life, then Wishing Street brings it on full flavor. Favorite cut, Heaven's Key...sends chills up the spine. Not only because it is crafted in a unique blend of rich powerful writing but it is sung with soulful passion..I don't think this one could be topped. Other songs that make you want to stop what your doing and just listen are the title cut Wishing Street, Eastern Standard Time and I Will Ride. This album has something for everyone, a little gospel sound in Confessors Hymn, a little fun in La La La La (although this was my least favorite, it takes you right out of the last song and brings on a new mood). Kudos to Ian Charles for a masterful job on what could be my favorite CD to date. Buy it, Try it, It's well worth every penny.

4 out of 5 stars Long Hill Road.......2000-03-16

Long Hill Road is a Great Cd. It has a real Alt-country feel to it. With a good handful of Electric and Acoustic songs. Almost like Electric Folk songs. Excellent lyrics and the production, Nothing over produced and Ian Charles' Voice right out front. It reminds me a bit of the Jayhawks "Hollywood town hall" in it's production. I listen to this album all the time. I would recommend this to anyone who likes good american songwriters music.
