Kenny Rogers is one of the all-time greats.......2004-09-24

This album was Kenny's first for Reprise records as a solo singer (he was signed to the label in the 60's with his country-pop group, First Edition). He had just left RCA records (and EMI/UA before them). His highly successful career was not without critics, however. The single off this album "Planet Texas" was perhaps his least successful single ever and it was called a "joke" by serious music critics (who obviously missed the point, it WAS a joke/novelty song).
Still Rogers has made a habit of surviving and after than minor hiccup this album went on to be his 25th top 30 album.
This album presents Rogers on top form (as ever) with wonderful ballads "The vows go unbroken (always true to you)", "Maybe" (a duet with fellow country singer, Holly Dunn), "Love the way you do" and more.
The cover of Labi Siffie's "Something Inside So Strong" (the albums title cut) improves upon the good original version that was inspired by the free Nelson Madella campaign.
In short, this album is typical Kenny Rogers and that can never be a bad thing.

Strong Effort.......2002-02-18

On SOMETHING INSIDE SO STRONG Kenny Rogers has created an album with some of his most memorable material in my opinion. From the stunning duet with Anne Murray called "If I Ever Fall In Love Again", which was sadly ignored by country radio, to the beautiful duet with Holly Dunn called "Maybe", this is a great album. With this album Kenny slowly moved back into country music after experimenting with pop for a bit. Another duet on the album is the great "If I Knew Then What I Know Now", with Gladys Knight. Sounds like a bad match but Kenny could sing a duet with any female artist in my opinion, he has one of those beautiful voices which compliments other singer's voices. As well there are beautiful, inspiring songs such as the title track, which is an uplifting anthem of never giving up in the face of challenges. And the theme for the '88 Olympics, "When You Put Your Heart In It", is another beautiful inspirational song. "One Night" and "The Vows Go Unbroken (Always True To You)" are both beautiful declarations of love. The whole album is a consistently good effort of good material, this album is difficult to find but its worth the effort to find it.

Memories.......2001-05-08

I remember this album well. When I was growing up, my parents would drive me up to our cottage and we would play this cassette in the car. I remember that I fell in love with Kenny's voice and these songs were so powerful to me, even at the young age of six or seven I felt inspired by this music. It is truly my favorite Kenny Rogers album, even though it is not his usual country style music. 12 years later I have come back to this album, and I smile when I remember those days of listening to the cassette of this very album. The title track "Something Inside So Strong" is a very empowering inspirational theme, it puts a lump in your throat. The duet with Anne Murray, "If I Ever Fall In Love Again", is a beautiful ballad which deserved more recognition that it got. "When You Put Your Heart In It" is a beautiful inspirational song. Other mentionable songs include If I Knew Then What I Know Now, the duet with Gladys Knight, There Lies The Difference, and Planet Texas. Although the whole album is completely enjoyable. I highly reccomend this album, its the perfect album for any mood you are in.

A Little of This, a Little of That, and a Little Country.......2000-09-27

After years of mediocre pop-flavored offerings, Kenny Rogers left RCA and headed back to country with this release. Perhaps its liability was the attempt to be all things to all fans.

"Planet Texas" is about as clever and as quirky as a novelty song can get, but it was far from a hit single. Kenny Rogers has always been a welcoming duet partner. On this release, he took it to an extreme. Anne Murray, Holly Dunne, and Gladys Knight (yes Gladys Knight) all takes turns sharing the microphone. Anne Murray's collaboration on "If I Ever Fall in Love Again" is a strong country love song that also failed to achieve the airplay it deserved. "Maybe" with Holly Dunne was certainly adequate, but why Kenny and Gladys remade the Gary Morris flop is a true mystery.It contains lyrics like the badly forced rhyme, "I would have held you tighter/ I would have loved you righter."

Traditional country couple Ricky Skaggs and Sharon White harmonized on "The Vows Go Unbroken," the album's most rustic sounding effort. "When You Put Your Heart In It" was the theme song of the U.S. Olympic gymnastics team and was probably hurt by preceding the album's release by nearly a year.

Celtic Tenors are marvelous. The only "tenor group" offering harmony. The material is beautiful and beautifully performed.

Celtic Music Meets the Boy Bands.......2003-11-09

If one looks at the jacket of the disk THE CELTIIC TENORS, the first impression is that the disk could also be called "The Three Irish Tenors goes boy band." The three Celtic tenors: Matthew Gilsenan, Niall Morris, and James Nelson, look rather young and hip, almost in a stereotypical way, and it is clear that the disk's first priority is to be a money maker. The obvious attempt at making a dollar (or in Ireland a punt or Euro) does not make the disk a waste. There are some very enjoyable musical moments on the disk, though nothing all that original or deep. The music ranges from popular tunes, traditional Irish music, and some light classical and operetta pieces. The musical highlight of the disk is an A Capella version of Barber's Adagio. This arrangement retains the piece's beauty as well as its haunting qualities. Though the song "Mull of Kintyre" is somewhat cheesy, it works on this disk and is one of the better tracks. The disk begins with a song titled "Nella Fantasia" a tune written by Emilio Morricone, and it's from a theme from his score of THE MISSION. According to the liner notes, the composer reluctantly allowed words for the piece. He should have held out a bit longer. The tune was first performed by Charlotte Church. It does not work for her, and it does not work for the Celtic Tenors either. Since the tune is so beautiful in the film, it's too bad it was not simply left alone.

This Is Not Your Ordinary Everyday Irish Tenor Album.......2003-10-02

Currently So Strong is my most favorite album. Unlike other Irish tenor albums I own, So Strong resonates unique total excellence achieved rarely by the blending of voices. It is a successful marriage of traditional and contemporary Irish vocal styling. Every cut is a true treasure. Listening to "Mull of Kintyre" I defy anyone not to hum this Paul McCartney melody. "The Green Fields of France" is a beautiful anti war anthem while "Ag Criost An Siol" is as spiritual as any gospel. Tears swell with "The Town I Loved So Well". "Something Inside" has an addictive beat and "The Contender" and "A Love so Beautiful" are haunting without being melancholy. I garantee that you'll have the CD player on high volume and repeat for the folk dance tune "The Star of the County Down" and inspiring "Anthem". I do.

So Strong.......2003-04-07

I was watching public television and saw "The Celtic Tenors". The next day I found their CD, "So Stong". Finding voices of such obvious quality producing harmony so perfectly is rare. The first song brought me to tears and I wanted to stand and cheer. In fact, I did. In my opinion, "The Celtic Tenors" have absolutely clear voices and sing with "Heart" whether it's concerning the town they love or the love they let slip away. I have already suggested the CD to many friends who have immediately purchased one for themselves. What a treat, what a treat.

What a beautiful mix of songs.......2003-01-15

I bought this on a whim after listening to the 30 second bits on this site. It is now one of my favorite albums. I can't stop listening to it! I walk around all day singing bits from 'So Strong' & 'Mull of Kintyre'. Each tenor is given equal billing & their voices flow together so well. I'm now anxiously awaiting either a US tour or a new album. The first album, simply titled 'Celtic Tenors' is wonderful as well. If you love men who can really sing, you will love this album!

Great new group.......2003-10-15

This is a wonderful CD by two brothers who are going to go far. The songs continue whirling in your mind long after the CD has stopped. "The Music Box" in particular is a song that will haunt you. This is a CD you will enjoy listening to over and over.

Thomas Whitfield produced half of this album..........2001-07-17

...and it shows! As usual, Vanessa sings the stew out of every song, showing off her range and vocal textures on this contemporary gospel collection. The material is great throughout the album, although the last four cuts -- produced by the late Maestro -- are the absolute best, and destined to become classics. "Calvary" alone is worth the price of this CD: it is hauntingly powerful and moving, with an unearthly performance by Ms. Armstrong and the backup singers.

Don't get me wrong! The first four cuts are strong also. John P. Kee "shows up" on "Something On The Inside," and Vanessa sounds a lot like Aretha on some lines. "Everlasting Love" is a great skate song, and "Don't You Give Up" and "Ounce of Your Love" are both good examples of R&B gospel.

The only thing that keeps this from being a 5 star album is the fact that the sound quality of the Whitfield produced tracks is not quite as good as the rest of the album for some reason (oddly, since those are the best songs!). But if you're a Vanessa fan, you should buy this album. If you're not a fan, you should still buy it, because you will be after just one listen.

Good but not her best.......2000-06-13

Vanessa Bell Armstrong is a talented Gospel singer with a beautiful voice. I purchased this CD as a used CD. This is the only one I didnt have. The story of Calvary and Father I stretch are by far the 2 best on this CD. I found Desire of my heart to be her best CD yet and I give that one 5 stars. This one is just ok, it didnt leave me uplifed like her other CD's do.

KILLER BLUES.......2005-11-02

Like another reviewer said, this CD will never go mainstream, but if you want to hear some rip-roarin' blues guitar, you cannot go wrong with this disc. I had the good fortune of seeing Jimmy King in a small club when this CD was out and he was on top of his game.
Having Tommy Shannon & Chris Layton from Double Trouble on this disc doesn't hurt either. Don't miss out on this CD, get it!!

Albert King's Grandson can play.......2001-12-19

This album will never be mainstream, but if you love guitar based blues, it is definitely worth the listen. Also, if you like this album, see the 'Gales brothers' album which is Jimmy and his brothers and is probably better than this. His biggest fan was the late Albert King and it is easy to hear why. Jimmy can play and exceeds his grandfather by a fair way.

This album is absolutely the best blues c.d. ever! JK has pure tone and unbelievable licks...compared to EC,Stevie,etc..only one better(Hendrix)...this album a MUST HAVE for any pure blues lover. I wish Clapton had that much soul on"Strange Brew"

Wow! Everything on this single is awesome! The title track is the best song off her second album, although it did not have much success on the charts as "Day & Night". The B-side, "First Love" is a great ballad that could have been a single itself, very mature and Billie-ish...

The remix is also well worth it, an intelligent work of art! It is a little less RnB-ish than the radio version, and more orchestral. The vocals have not been taken from the original version and then glued to the new arrangements. The music is different, and so are the vocals.

The video is very nice, the setup is beautiful and the choreography is great. One of my all-time favorite videos!

This single is a great buy on all aspects! Nothing about "Something Deep Inside" will leave you disappointed... A well-deserved five stars for Billie!

having a huge success with her first single from her secnd album, "something deep inside" just keep us stick with her song all the time.
second offer from her album, definitely the right choice, she's just great in performing in these types of song, isn't she? with a touch of R&B and dance moves, she wowed me again in her MTV!
this girl should get the credit as so much effort has been put on in her second single, with the young age, she still has a long way to go and hoping that she'll always give us stuffs like this to keep us stepping our feet!

Could've been.......2000-10-25

When Billie first burst on the scene a couple of years ago with 'Honey to the B', we all thought that she was a Princess in training to be Queen someday. No such luck.

Her latest new single, is both musically and lyrically vapid. Gone are her good looks too. The CD ROM section of the disc shows you that her new look for the video doesnt at all work. This from the woman who stunned all of us with her masterful rendering of 'She wants you', transforming it into an instant gay club hit? Unpardonable.

Dont get me wrong. As a pop single, this song shines. Its much better than most stuff by the Spice Girls , even. But as a release from someone of the calibre of Billie Piper, it is of poor quality. Lets hope her next releases save this one from blackening her name!

This single is a great follow-up to "Day & Night." Taken from her new album "Walk Of Life," which is released in the UK sometime next week! I love the Motiv 8 Mix of SDI! Very kewl! And it also an Enhanced CD, which shows the vid of SDI. A very cool vid, if you don't say so myself...
