The production of this CD is not quite as lavish as Tom's first big solo CD - Mad Mad World, but its probably his best work since. This isn't a big, fast-tempoed, rock record centered around blazing guitar tracks. I would best describe it as compilation of Dillonesque slow-to-moderate tempoed folk ballads. Most of the songs have a very straightforward beat allowing the individual parts "and vocal lines" to "dance" around it, with the occasional crunch guitar to highlight certain parts. The only negative thing I could say about the entire CD is the drum sound on track five (Didn't Mean); great song -- some beautiful guitar highlights during the verses -- but that snare and those cymbals -- ugh! Overall, this is a very good CD with plenty of infectious melodies and - like all of Tom's work - never short on words. I would recommend it.

I've been waiting eight years since the release of X-Ray Sierra, Tom's last album of new material. Great vocals and lyrics, a little more mellow than previous albums, but worth the wait!

5 out of 5 stars Cochrane Delivers with "No Stranger".......2006-11-18

Tom Cochrane is "No Stranger" when it comes to his distinct vocals and outstanding songwriting. After an eight-year hiatus since, Tom delivers a well-worthwhile CD.
The opening track "The Party's Not Over" is an appropriate opening as if Tom is saying, "here I am", as it perfectly segues into "Glide". While Tom's vocals and songwriting withstands the hands of time, the disc lacks any rockers. Mostly a softer sound, perhaps the only up-tempo tracks include "Didn't Mean", "Rough and Tumble", "Spirit in the Sky" and the haunting "Since You Left Me". While Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky" appears to be an odd choice for Cochrane to cover, he adopts the song as one of his own. Instead of performing the song in the familiar sense, Tom breathes new life into the 60's classic and interprets it so uniquely, that it sounds like it is a brand new song. Overall, Tom has not disappointed this long time fan. Excellent song writing, guitar playing, and vocals, has proven once again that Tom is NO Stranger to the music scene.

Well this comment comes from the heart !Ultra is a very hard work lady who trys to please herself fisrt. Without that she couldnot please her fan .Ultra has been around for 13years and yet many still fail to understand the power of her music.Stanger Than Ficition will definity reach the top . Not just over seas were I they love herso,but world wide. So the next question fan will be asking is Who's Ultra Nate'? Keep up the good job Tae!!

This woman is so incredible... I first heard her on Situation Critical and I have been hooked ever since. Every song on this album has the makings of a hit single. With this album she should finally get the credit she deserves. I have recently gotten my hands on all her previous works and am still amazed at how good Ultra really is. She can churn out intelligent dance music with the blink of an eye. If you buy one dance album this year please make sure it is this one because her version of "How Deep is your Love?" is phoenomenal. Ultra Nate Will Be With Us For A Long Time To Come.

Andre Rieu's Romantic Paradise with selections including "The Godfather," "Strangers in Paradise,"The Rose," etc. is absolutely lovely. His violin brings out the best in these familiar songs. There is a second CD with the same title, with "Dances with Wolves" as the first selection, that will blow you away. I got mine in Europe. Hope it becomes available in the USA.

    This disc sports an awesome-looking cover and title that bear nothing at all to the music on it. Almond's white-caked head is covered with silver sequins and diamonds in a sort of techno-looking picture, but the music inside, while snappy and poppy plenty of the time, is something else--ballads attached to a sort of thumped-up John Barry set of sample-sounds, orchestra snippets and a full orchestra sometimes. Think of the Propellerheads' track using Shirley Bassey but with more orchestration and sweep, and you've got a good idea of what's on this release. While this disc is much better, I think, than Almond's mysteriously well-received previous album (Open All Night)--because it doesn't have such lyrically embarrassing songs as did that disc--Stranger Things does open up with back-to-back musical cringers, including "Glorious," the first single--bloated neo-showtunes for elevators and elderly-catering restaurants (think of duller versions of "My Hand Over My Heart" from Almond's Tenement Symphony disc). Unremarkable. BUT. "Come Out" gets things going with a great meldimg of orchestral sweep and techy thump. And a few of the tracks have just enough harpsichord and mandolin appearances to remind you of his good old days with The Willing Sinners. "Dancer" is another ace track, with the closest thing to snarl you'll find here. "When it's Your Time," "End in Tears," and "Love in a Time of Science" are back-to-back-to-back winners, uniting orchestra and tech into some pretty eerie songs that show Almond still has some edge left to him after all. And some versions of this CD (I have a German one) include an extra track, "Amo Vitam," a duet with Rosenstolz, that is also quite good. If you just love Marc Almond no matter what, you'll love this disc. If you love Mother Fist and The Stars We Are but aren't so wild about Enchanted and Open All Night, this might not suit you, although I think it's better than those last two. But unlike Open All Night, Stranger Things makes me glad Almond is still at work. I just wish he'd get farther back into the gutter! That's when he's really rolling . . .
