What I know of Jon Poole comes from seeing him live with The Wildhearts and Ginger's Sonic Circus, talking with Poole after shows, and reading what few items I can find on the web, which include mention of Poole being a guitarist for the cult favorite British band The Cardiacs. This British multi-instrumentalist is a great musician with a twisted mind. Onstage, he is the Steve Harris of the pop/punk/rock set running around the stage, singing the songs word for word, and never missing a note. "What's the Ugliest Part of Your Body?" is Poole's self-recorded homage to the work of Frank Zappa. As a fan of Zappa, you can tell the difference between someone playing the music of Zappa and someone who truly seemed to get what Zappa was all about. Poole's version of these Zappa classics gives me the feeling that he would have made the maestro himself proud. If Poole had lived in Los Angeles 30 years ago and had been given the opportunity to audition for Zappa, I believe that we would be mentioning his name in the same breath with Belew, Vai, and any of the other guitarists that were part of Zappa's band at its peak.
