I recently discovered Jack Jones, his voice is like velvet - perfect for a cocktail party or if you are having a date over for a romantic dinner. Every song is excellent - initially I bought it for wives and lovers - but was amazed by the rest of the CD. Perfection.

I bought this originally for the Dear Heart album, and in my opinion, it is the better of the two. The Dear Heart album has a better song choice, although I understand that Wives & Lovers won a Grammy for Jack Jones. Jack Jones is very talented and I thoroughy enjoyed listening to his beautiful, melodic voice.

Hey, little girl... Dang, every line just burns its way into your consciousness. This is a classic Jack double set (one of several) and contains many unforgettable songs.

While the Greatest Hits compilation is superb, there are so many stunning songs on this set that weren't even 45s, that you simply cannot get your head around how utterly brilliant this man really is.

It's not just that he has a golden, smooth smooth smooth voice, with an almost operatic range, it's that he is never afraid of taking chances with his phrasing and delivery, which makes for some very exciting performances. What Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant did for Rock vocals, Jack did for the crooners. He just transformed the entire concept.

Added to that, he recorded some of the greatest songs ever written, and did it HIS way. Just pick a song off this powerhouse double set and you'll see what I mean... even the songs off Wives And Lovers alone... Wives and Lovers (of course) Toys In The Attic, Angel Eyes, the haunting Charade and Nina Never Knew, Summertime Promises, his stunningly original cover of Fly Me To The Moon... you get the idea.

This man is one class act, and this is an essential purchase.

At the time of this writing, there is still no complete CD collection of Jack Jones' classic Kapp recordings; the only way to get these indispensible albums is on these English imports, each of which features two of the original albums on one CD. I can't stress enough how essential these are to anyone who wants to hear the voice of the century. These are the original, enduring Jack Jones recordings, his lasting contribution to music, the most perfectly enunciated, crystal-toned pieces of heartfelt romance imaginable. Jack Jones is indescribable--he reached perfection so soon, he had nowhere to go beyond that, and has been experimenting for years. Trust the perfect original. The Kapp albums, two of the very best of which are these, are the greatest "pure music" recordings ever made by a pop singer. I love them, and believe you will as well.

When i first heard the middle eight beats that belongs to 'Great western', i wanted to go outside to find someone to kiss. A stranger with bad weather overtones or a bird with a huge sky lip. The feeling was homage to self referential life which beyond the borders and small ideas. Weird thing is; concept of this album based on traditional images of James Dean Bradfield's life-On saturday morning we will (were actualy) rule the world-kind of feeling clunking to the room. But this feeling can create such gems as; //fatalistic weeping "Which Way To Kyffin" or spectral sunshine of "Say Hello To The Pope" easily. It roots lie in salt rock'n roll and innocence of soul. Echoing, scrawling vocal range with plenty of messed up ghosts (Probably tribute the missed direction of the last Manic' album "Lifeblood" ) and broken promises of the 90's. Very special, quite magical within...

I can't believe no one has written a review on this compilation yet! Bob Geldof's solo work is great--he's a lyrical poet and musical shapeshifter all in just four short albums.

This package has all four of his solo albums digitally remastered with bonus tracks. The only shame is that no one thought of remixing it into 5.1 surround sound! That would have been awesome.

Deep In The Heart Of Nowhere (1986): I saw the video for "This Is The World Calling" on MTV (Yes, when they used to play videos) in November 1986. I got this on cassette for my 14th birthday. The version of "This Is The World Calling" on that cassette is different from the cd versions, but not by much. This is my favorite Geldof album and it sounds fantastic digitally remastered. The track order on the cassette was different from the track order on the original cd and this remastered version. I always kind of liked the sequencing of the cassette and the version of "This Is The World Calling" on it as well. Standout tracks include "I Cry Too", "When I Was Young", "This Heartless Heart", "The Beat Of The Night", "Night Turns To Day" and "August Was A Heavy Month". The four bonus tracks are okay and do not detract from the rest of the album.

The Vegetarians Of Love (1990): I got this on cd when it was released in August 1990 (I Think). A major music style shift with a more stripped down effect. Still, I think this is also a great album, and my second favorite from Geldof. Standout tracks include "Love Or Something", "The Great Song Of Indifference", "Thinking Voyager 2 Type Things", "Big Romantic Stuff", "The Chains Of Pain", "A Rose At Night" and "No Small Wonder". The seven bonus songs here are probably the best of the four albums.

The Happy Club (1992): I got this on cd when it was released in April 1992. This remastered version omits "Yeah, Right" from the original release, but I went back and listened to it and felt that it was a good idea to leave it off the digital remaster. The track order is slightly different too on the digital remaster, and I think it works much better. Standout tracks include "Attitude Chicken", "The Soft Soil", "A Hole To Fill", "My Hippy Angel", "Too Late God", "Road Of Germany (After BD)" and "A Sex Thing". The three bonus tracks are okay.

Sex, Age And Death (2001): Obviously and intentionally bleak what with the suicide of his ex-wife and Michael Hutchence between albums. I don't like this one as much as his others. Standout tracks include "One For Me", "$6,000,000 Loser", "Scream In Vain", "Inside Your Head" and "10:15". The nine bonus songs are, again, just okay.

The reason to get this for those, like me, who already have them individually is that they're all digitally remastered and come with extra tracks. The booklet is informative with a review of each of the four albums followed by all the lyrics to each original album's tracks. There are no lyrics to the bonus tracks. All in all, much more than I'd hoped for and you can get it cheaper if you order it from Amazon.uk

He informs you that this set is not the legenday recordings of the last 6 syms made with the Columbia on Sony (on vinyl it was the Columbia label, now bought by Sony).
With with recent news last night that M Jackson may be selling his Sony recording holdings, worth $1billion, we may soon see the Walter/Columbia recordings released eventually.
Its the Columbia SO set you want to own.
I got my cd set from a used dealer in england 3 yrs ago, its on Sony/germany, release 1989.

I have just completed a compare between Bohm and Walter/Columbia.
I have to give the nod to the Bohm, ....but then there are times I give the nod to Walter/Columbia...hummm, as with all Mozart, he is Hermes par excellent, and that mercurial quality is reflected in mere mortal attempts at capturing atht genius from another realm.

I was first introduced to Lorez Alexandria as a child. This was one of those many jazz records that was played on the stereo constantly in my house. I never took a real appreciation of her talent until I got older. My father used to always listen to her. Her phrasing was and is such a delight to listen to even today. I still listen to the LP from time to time when I visit my parents. The accompanient of Jimmy Cobb, Wynton Kelly, Louis Haynes and Al McKibbon was a superb choice of sidemen. Everything still sounds just right. I can still remember most of the words to every song on this compilation. This is a vocalist I have introduced to my family now. All I can say is this brings back so many good memories.

    Lawrence Gowan is simply the perfect person to pick up where Dennis DeYoung left off. If you have any doubts, pick up any of his solo work (I recommend The Best of Gowan for starters, it covers several of his studio albums and includes a couple never-before released tracks as well). One of Canada's finest and a band held in very high regard in that country...a solid team. This CD is just one of six great studio albums Gowan released between 1982 and the mid-90s.

    This album, Gowan's third, may in fact be his best, though it's been years since I've heard "Lost Brotherhood", so don't quote me. "Dirty World" shows a large step forward in maturity as an artist for Gowan over "Strange Animal" and "Gowan". I recommend this album highly, even if only for the remarkable vocal work by Jon Anderson of YES on the 'Moonlight Desires' track.

    There are so many recordings of this quintet it boggles the mind.
    How do you choose?
    Over the years, I must have purchased 10 or more CDs looking for that "perfect fit" for my personal taste.
    Spent a lot of dollars and found out it's true-"you get what you pay for".
    First.. You will find you have to own more than one version, because everyone plays it differently.
    One of the bigger differences is everyone plays each section at different tempos.
    Now this is mostly very subtle, but if you listen to enough versions, you will hear how tempo effects Schuberts gorgeous melodies.
    Too fast and the melodies have no room to bloom or "resolve".
    This performance is one of the cleanest well played and executed out there.
    The tempi is just right and there is air around every note bringing a beautiful transparency and tone.
    The Hagen Quartet was at the height of their burgeoning career when this was recorded in 1994. And I guess DG was also, because the sound quality is SUPERB.
    Clean, transparent, rich with excellent front to back depth (which is the failing of most recordings) and clarity. You can hear every note. This one has it right.
    This is one of 3 completely different sounding interpretations I have decided to keep.
    The others...
    Raphael Ensemble on Hyperion and Orpheus Quartet on Channel Classics.
    When you own these 3, you will have almost 3 different pieces of music that only sound the same if you are using it as background music.
    If you really wanna listen, you will hear what I mean.
    Highly recommended.
