About the Artist
In her debut album, "release, Katie's spirit is clearly heard through her thought provoking words. The singer/songwriter wanted her first album to include only songs written during her high school years. At barely 19 years old Katie is winning over audience after audience with her soulful and genuine performances. Whether performing in cozy coffeehouses, loud bars or large auditoriums Katie connects with her audience by telling life stories with her music. She knows that she is truly blessed to have the gift of music in her life.

Recorded in Berlin and executive produced by the Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant, Rufus Wainwright's fifth album offers an ounce of restraint from the man that dressed up as Sir Lancelot's crossed girlfriend Lady Shallott on the cover of his last. Well, not really. Having fallen in love and curbed his self-destructive streak, the New York-born singer-songwriter has certainly sharpened his wit on Release the Stars but the songs remain as ornate and over-the-top as ever, drawing as much inspiration from opera and the musical theater as the desire to purge personal demons. So while Wainwright spends considerable time here pondering the state of the world ("Going to a Town") and his own battles with drug and sexual addiction ("Sanssouci"), every note is punctuated by a choir, orchestral swell, or big burst of brass. It wouldn't be Rufus with anything less. --Aidin Vaziri

Better and Better.......2007-07-08
What I like best about this album is that it is emblematic of Rufus' ever-maturing talent, both in subject matter and musical stylings.
A few standouts: "Do I Disappoint You" (love this track - bombastic opening as only Rufus can do. Compare with "Oh What a World" and "Agnus Dei" from the Want One and Want Two CD's), "Going to a Town" (written about New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina - and NOT Anti-American as some have said), "Slideshow" (love the melody, not sure how well the subject matter goes with it though), and "Tulsa" (wasn't sure about this one at first, but now I like it - and it's not really about sleeping with Brandon Flowers, as many seem to think).
All in all, this CD makes good listening. I can't wait to hear what Rufus will come out with next.
Such a drama queen..........2007-07-04
I've wanted to like Rufus. I've tried to like Rufus. I bought this just for "Going to a Town"- an amazing song, and the lyrics are spot-on. But the rest of the disc is so melodramatic and off-the-charts narcissistic that I find it completely unlistenable. Rufus, can't you rein it in just a little bit?
Still Gowing.......2007-06-29
Rufus has created four masterpiece albums before this one, and he is still growing in talent and direction! Too many artists write the same music album after album once they find success, but this is not the case here. Whereas, I cannot say this album is my favorite, it does grow on me more and more each time I listen to it. This album is quite different - give it your patience and you will be rewarded. It contains few catchy melodies that are accessible upon first hearing, but instead is full of sophisticated musicianship.
Listening is a lot of work...but.......2007-06-27
Purchased this CD solely based on the reviews, and WOW! It is fantastic! It is very complex, and listening to it the first few times feels a bit laborious, trying to take it all in. As it turns out, it is well worth it. What a crazy, soaring, smooth, quasi-operatic extravaganza. I especially like "Release the Stars." It makes you feel like standing up on top of your desk, spreading your arms out wide, and belting it out yourself.
He produced Himself, thats all you have to say!.......2007-06-27
I love Rufus. His music if full and gorgeous.....and the title track on this Cd is an example of that. My only complaint... if it were possible... that this might be a little too much Rufus.

Fans of (largely) mellow songs by (mostly) American indie rock outfits should snap up this superior soundtrack. Representative of the mood is "Pills" by Gary Jules--an original song that feels as Cat Stevens-indebted as Jules's popular cover of "Mad World" on the Donnie Darko soundtrack. Foo Fighters' "Razor" and Paul Westerberg's "Let the Bad Times Roll" see these acts at their calmest. Largely acoustic and gently paced, the CD almost never raises its pulse, and even when it does, as with Audible's "Sky Signal," it remains appealingly melodic. While most of the tracks are from the mid-'00s, it's great to hear the Lemonheads's 1992 "My Drug Buddy" again--it still counts as one of Evan Dando's finest moments. And although the flavor is largely American, trips across the pond result in lovely tracks by the Magic Numbers who supply their customary Mamas and Papas-influenced harmonies on "Mornings Eleven," and by Gomez with their shuffling "These 3 Sins." --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Great movie,..awesome soundtrack.......2007-06-12
I really liked this movie but love the soundtrack. I have discovered new artists from this movie like Joshua Radin and Death Cab For Cutie(heard of them, never listened before). I normally don't get into the soundtracks for movies but this one caught my attention, I recommend it to anyone.
Lovely and well-done soundtrack.......2007-05-22
I was surprised by how much I liked the music in this "chick flick" -- the songs were a lot more deep and interesting than I expected (actually the film was pretty good and thoughtful, too, but that's not the point here). Anyway, good songs, they work well together, and it's really an enjoyable indie pop mix. Nice job, music supervisor!
CD case was cracked upon delivery........2007-03-08
The title just about sums it up. The music is great, but the CD case was cracked upon delivery and the first song of the CD skips.
A Special, Brilliant Soundtrack.......2007-03-04
Perhaps the oddest thing about being a music reviewer is the way that it causes such a social imbalance in my life. The average person watches a lot of television, sees two or three movies each month, and listens to whatever pleases them. I, however, watch very little television, virtually never go to the movies, and listen to dozens of albums that mean virtually nothing to me. It causes a social imbalance that ultimately renders my opinions on music obtuse, because I am clueless regarding most aspects of pop culture. I bring this up because I'm fairly certain that I will never see the movie "Catch and Release," but I've listened to the soundtrack a few times now, and I think it's great.
As a soundtrack, "Catch and Release" features some of the most intelligent and tuneful pop music I've heard in a while. You'd expect as much from Death Cab for Cutie and Gomez, but it's the more obscure acts who really bring something special to this collection. I've never heard of Blinker the Star, or The Magic Numbers, or Gary Jules, but if this is representative of their work, I want to hear more by them. The songs they contribute here are bright, imaginative and impossible to forget. As soundtrack fodder, the material is excellent. As a mix-tape of cleverly chosen and challenging music, it's virtually faultless. Foo Fighters kick off the disk with one of their best acoustic-based tracks ever, a pensive, moody piece called "Razor," and the pace continues for the next seventeen tracks. Besides the above, other highlights include The Lemonheads ("My Drug Buddy"), New Radiant Storm King ("The Winding Staircase") and Paul Westerberg ("Let the Bad Times Roll"), interspersed with surprisingly addictive obscurities by Peter Maclaggan ("Leaving the Ground"), Alaska (Resistance"), Steve Durand ("Electrified and Ripe"), and Sky Signal ("L'Audible"), ending with a beautifully melodic rocker by The Doves called "There Goes the Fear." Who are these people? It is stunning to hear how well this soundtrack works as a complete listening experience. Why did I need a soundtrack album to introduce me to these artists? That used to be radio's job, but we all know we can no longer rely on the radio to introduce high quality new music. Apparently, that job has been assigned to film soundtracks.
I may never see this movie, but I'm willing to bet that "Catch and Release" will be the best soundtrack album of 2007. I need to get out more. A Tom Ryan
Perfectly Interwoven into Movie.......2007-02-11
One of those that will always bring scenes from the movie to mind. You can tell the choice of each song was critical to the director's vision for the movie.
Perry...never saw the trailer, but the song you mention sounds like Breathe (2 a.m.) by Anna Nalick...a very highly recommended album (Wreck of the Day).

Customer Reviews:
Very cool return.......2007-07-13
First off, I've been a fan of this band since I took a chance in the metal-dead environment of the late 90's and bought the wonderful 'Alive in Athens' CD (one of the greatest live albums of all time) in 1999. Like many, I felt very sorry about Matt Barlow leaving some years ago, the disintegration that followed and the multitude ill-turns suffered by leader Jon Schaffer.
So that's why I'm happy as hell for the return of the band and in this metal-happy musical climate of today I wholeheartedly wish Schaffer has finally his revenge and gathers the recognition that always eluded the band through 15 years of hard work and excellent music.
So what we have here is a taster of the forthcoming new album and a reworking of the classic "Something Wicked" trilogy from 1998's 'Something Wicked This Way Comes'.
Well, the new song "Ten Thousand Strong" is the first Iced Earth song we've heard written specifically for new singer Tim 'Ripper' Owens (since the 'Glorious Burden' album was written with Barlow in tow and only later was resung by Owens), and it shows; the guy is a monster singer. The song is pretty much 'Glorious Burden' fare, except perhaps a bit better. This is killer, even if simple, stuff.
No doubt the eyeopener here is the remake of the old trilogy, and so Ripper is *again* cast to repeat a Barlow performance, and one much loved by fans no less. And again, he falls short; clearly he is no match for Matt's tone and emotional delivery and comes across a bit forced and shrill sounding. The re-recording itself (I mean the music) is cool, even if I still prefere the original.
One very cool feature of this record is the return of 'Alive in Athens's excellent skinsman Brent Smedley, and if you fear after 8 years out of the band he may have lost his touch, well rest assured it's not the case because he is an absolute monster, even more than on the old days. If someone said it's Richard Christy playing, no one would doubt it, it's that good, stunning machine gun precision all the way. Another thing to mention are new axeman Tim Mills' lead guitar breaks, which are probably the best lead guitar ever featured in the band.
Finally a special mention to the excellent cover art, depicting the return of the Set Abominae character.
So all in all a very nice taster for what I hope is a killer CD to come in September, and one to finally put this great band where it has always deserved: at the top of the metal world :)
Let's just hope Schaffer manages to keep a lineup together long enough to see it happen.
IE Shouldn't Look Back.......2007-07-05
If the new single is an indication of what to expect from the new album, then this will probably be the best since 'Wicked'. The problem with this disk lies in the re-recorded material. When judged on his own merits, Ripper has a great voice, and he shows it off on the first track. However, the 'Something Wicked' trilogy can't be listened to without comparing it directly to Barlow's version, and in this context, the Ripper just can't win. The original was nothing short of amazing, and could hardly be improved upon, Barlow's voice thick and powerful. In comparison, Ripper sounds hollow and weak. It's not a fair comparison to make, because the two singers have completely different styles, but it's a comparison that's impossible not to make when Ripper sings Matt's songs.
If Iced Earth and its fans can manage to look forward to the future instead of looking back at what was, then there is reason to be optimistic. This single will serve as a good primer for the full-length.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!.......2007-07-03
I don't hate Tim Owens. I loved "The Glorious Burden", almost as a different Iced Earth than the ones previously. I love Tim Owens' voice for Iced Earth. I loved Matt Barlow's voice for Iced Earth.
This is only four songs on a single, and only one of them is new. The new song "Ten Thousand Strong" is great. It bears traces of old Iced Earth without being the same old crap or repetitive.
Why do I scream "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!" for the title then? The other three tracks.
The other three tracks are not re-recordings, but new versions of the "Something Wicked..." trilogy at the end of "Something Wicked This Way Comes", "Prophecy", "Birth of the Wicked", and "The Coming Curse"
I don't mind having Tim Owens sing over songs that were originally done by Matt Barlow. But they completely RE-DID these songs! They sound very little, if anything like the originals. I am sort of a music traditionalist by nature. Cover songs don't appeal to me as much as originals, re-recorded albums are never better than originals unless it's an unchanged remastering.
It's not just the lack of Barlow's deeper, more husky voice in these songs, it's a completely new guitar, bass, and drum lines used. The rhythms are done at different speeds, the moods are changed. Where once "Prophecy" was a darkly moody, brooding song, it's now something resembling generic "demonic" metal.
I look forward to the new Iced Earth album. I love Iced Earth, and if Schaffer continues to get better with age like his previous albums, I will love it. What I do NOT like is the "rewriting of history" so to speak, the re-writing of these three classic songs of the "Wicked" trilogy. Please... if you don't want Barlow's voice on them, just record Owens over the song as it was! Don't totally rewrite the rhthyms, tempos, moods, etc! It ruins it for traditionalists who have stuck with IE through the ages.
This really didn't need to be done. But it's still pretty cool........2007-07-02
I am going to be brief. "Something Wicked" was my first Iced Earth album, and the original trilogy sent chills down my spine when I listened to it. Iced Earth have changed the trilogy.
First off, the trilogy sounds more produced than ever. Some parts sound really cool and dark, but in general the song just sounds more computerized and polished than the original's. One good thing, however, is the ethnic addition. The song sounds very middle eastern now, which it sort of lacked before. Anyway, I'll take the original version any day. But this version is still pretty good. Makes for a good recap before the new album comes out, but like I said it just sounds too computerized and polished. Also, I like Owens, but he can't match this song which was written with Barlow in mind.
"10,000 Strong" is unremarkable. It's just a single, so I can't complain to much, but it doesn't feel as heavy as it should be. I blame this on the mix and the production.
Fantastic single, but the redone material loses something in translation.......2007-06-28
Something Wicked was the first IE album I had bought. The trilogy in that album is the best thing the band has done next to Dante's Inferno. About the time I had gotten into the band, John Schaffer had mentioned his intent do make a whole album in the theme of Set, the subject of the trilogy. Five or so years later we finally have a taste... I do have some mixed feelings.
Ten Thousand Strong: This first track is the new single, fresh material from the upcoming album, and I have to say that I love it. The riffing is a little similar, perhaps reminiscent of Declaration Day or Attila from Glorious Burden, but this song in my opinion is better than anything from that album. The harmonizing between Ripper and the backround vocals is just amazing and Ripper himself is at the top of his game here. I admit that I'm not the biggest fan of Ripper as the IE vocalist (mostly because I'm still missing Barlow) but here I think he really works. The Glorious Burden felt like an album meant for Barlow but with Ripper filling the void. This track was meant for Ripper, and I can only hope the rest of the album sounds like this. Bravo to Schaffer! 9/10
Prophecy: Here I was not so pleased. As I said, I really love the original trilogy, perhaps a little too much to deal with the changes they've made to it. This song starts out interesting, almost on a more ominous tone, but the great part about the original track is the mellow tone in the first few minutes. Here the mellow tone is replaced with heavier slow tempo guitars, so when the actual main riff starts, it doesn't pack the same punch. And the main riff itself seems palm muted to the point of not even being the same riff anymore. Instead of the loud open chords we used to have, it sounds restrained and totally misses the same feel. Ripper's vocals are pretty good here, though of course he doesn't quite capture Barlowe's haunting tone. This is a fairly dissapointing take on this track. 5/10
Birth of the Wicked: The second track is more of a success. Not much is lost in the rerecording. The guitairs, while not as chunky as in the original, aren't as badly muted as in Prophecy. There are some interesting solos in here too, really impressive ones that I dig. Ripper's vocals work pretty well here as well. It is weird to hear the clocks after the song ends and not before however, but this change is fairly insignificant. Overall, while still not as good as the original, this is a good track. 7/10
The Coming Curse: Like Prophecy, this remake severely dissapoints. I loved the piano intro in the original and they decided to omit that here. It really provided a great buildup to this epic track and jumping right into the main riff doesn't have the same affect. And once again, the main riff is greatly muted and severely loses it's punch. The drums sound way too prominent over the guitars and I keep waiting for the riff to sound more meaty, but this really never happens. Another one of my favorite parts about the original was the backing vocals, the haunting choruses that were put in about halfway through. The vocals are similar, and still fairly haunting, but here it's not as prominent and not as affective. You can really tell it's just a couple of people instead of the overwhelming presense they gave before. This once has some interesting guitar work in the middle, and Ripper's vocals still work on some level, but overall I'm dissapointed. 5/10
The new material is great, and I hope the new album stays that way. The remade trilogy is interesting as an experiment, but by no means should it be a replacement. Perhaps it will work better incorporated into the album, I don't know. Overall, I'm still greatly anticipating this album. While the trilogy does lose something, musically it is still technical and harmonic just as we expect from Schaffer. I would still recommend getting this, just take into consideration what I said about the rerecordings and you might enjoy them. This is still one of my favorite metal bands and recommend them to any fan of old school metal.

In this follow-up to the smashing success of her 1997 CD Time to Say Goodbye, Sarah Brightman continues down the primrose crossover path, blithely gliding from covers of Hooverphonic (the title track) and Kansas ("Dust in the Wind") to Puccini and film scores (Titanic and The English Patient). Sometimes, as in "Anytime, Anywhere," the crossover happens within the same song--in this case welding a rhythm track to the somber harmonies of Albinoni's "Adagio." But there's nary a stylistic speed bump to jolt her listeners, as Brightman focuses her tiny, seraphic voice like a beam of light on each melody. The result, bless her heart, may be the invention of a whole new form of kitsch. Like plastic surgery, Brightman's years of specialized vocal training have helped refine her ability to float confidently well-rounded, sparkling tones in her upper range. These have a Dresden china-like, touching fragility in such songs as "So Many Things" and are well-suited to the gauzily romantic (and overproduced) gloss of the string-heavy arrangements that predominate. Eden also introduces Brightman as songwriter ("In Paradisum," with its mix of sitar and modal chant) and features a bonus track unavailable on the album's European-released version ("The Last Words You Said"). --Thomas May

Superb.......2007-07-15
Unequivically the best CD Ive ever heard. Pitch perfect voice, the 5 octave range....no one compares to the style of Sarah Brightman.
AMAZING!.......2007-04-12
I'm not an operatic snob, and I'm not a classical officionado, but I do know what I like, and this is it! Brightman always seems to start of her CDs with a little interlude at the beginning of her albums (in LA LUNA - "La Lune", from FLY - "The Fly", from HAREM - "Kama Sutra"). Her "In Paradisum" is long and beautiful, her voice soaring to high vocals. The next piece is "Eden", originally created by Hooverphonics, and this version is more classical than the other! It's really great! "So Many Things" is a great piece, followed by "Anytime, Anywhere", a Foreign Language - English piece (which works really well by the way). Bailero is the next piece, and it's great as well! Honestly, every single piece is beautiful, and it's a MUST-HAVE for any Sarah Brightman fan! However, the standout piece has to be "Nessun Dorma", which is a male aria, usually sung by Pavarotti or any other male. However, Sarah thought she could do it, and she did! Buy this CD!
Like an old friend .......2007-03-16
I first came across this album my senior year in college. It quickly found its way into the landscape of my daily life---I wrote over 200 pages in the wee hours of the morning to it, drove down the east coast, worked out at the gym, and dreamed to the tracks on this cd. Beautiful, soothing, and inspiring this is an album that never grows old.
Eden is classic Sarah Brightman.......2007-01-25
Possibly her best album, before she became a bit "far out" with her concert extravaganzas.
Cowboy Meets Sarah !!.......2007-01-11
Not sure how it happened but I ended up with a Sarah Brightman Eden CD. By accident I listened to it and this ole boy liked it. Now when I say I liked it, I mean I really liked it. Now shes probably my favoite artist. Now I'm shopping a 2nd Sarah Brightman album. It cant get here soon enough I'm tellin ya.

Ludacris doesn't pull out any real surprises here, but he also wouldn't have lasted this long if he didn't have a talent for consistency. What's missing here are big singles. His first attempt, "Money Maker," was too color-by-numbers. There's nothing on Release Therapy that achieves the anthem status of older Ludacris singles like "Stand Up" or "Pimpin All Over the World." Yet, even lacking a stand-out radio hit, Release Therapy is a satisfying listen, working what's now become a standard blend of playa/pimp songs ("Girls Gone Wild") and a few trap anthems ("Grew Up a Screw Up") and dispensing grown folk wisdom ("Freedom of Preach"). Along the way, he manages to take a slap at former protégé Chingy ("Tell It Like It Is"), rap about young mothers with Mary J. Blige on "Runaway Love," and hold it down for brothers in lock-up alongside Pimp C, Beanie Siegel, and C-Murder on "Do Your Time." Though not spectacular, Release Therapy stays the course for Luda to continue ruling as the Mouf of the South. --Oliver Wang

Mediocre release.......2007-06-05
Before you click no read it first. Ludacris has made two good albums in his career which are Back For The First Time and Word Of Mouf. After Word Of Mouf he dropped back to back garbage with Chicken & Beer(his worst album) and The Red Light District(runner up). This album is a little bit better than both of them but its also not worth the excess hype around it. The Good: The intro is not bad plus its leads to one of the better songs on this album Grew Up A Screw Up. Jeezy's verse stunk to high heaven but Ludacris held it down. Then Luda teams up with Field Mob on the dynamite Ultimate Satisfaction. Tell It Like It Is, War With God and Slap is Ludacris at his best and for somebody who says he has no beef with T.I, this verse from War With God says otherwise: /Do like your song say(Be Easy) or shut the f*** up/. Runaway Love was alright even though its probably the reason why this album has so much acclaim. The Bad: Money Maker was a bad first single. Even though the beat is not bad its still a rank club single. End Of The Night(featuring Bobby Valentino) is a cheesy song for the ladies that is not as bad as the song that comes after it(Woozy) but its just as forgettable, Mouths To Feed is flat out boring and Do Your Time(featuring Pimp C, Beanie Sigel and C-Murder)is just a depressing as Mouths To Feed. The Ugly: Girls Gone Wild is probably the worst song Ludacris has ever made next to Hoes In My Room and he sounds like he needs to clear his throat badly. Woozy is the worst song for the ladies that Luda has ever made since Splash Waterfalls and R Kelly's hook that goes /but its cool cause I've always wanted to go down on a girl that reminds me of me/(????)is just as creepy as it is confusing. Bottom Line: Ludacris's Release Therapy is probably the most overrated album of the year next to Busta Rhymes The Big Dud. The songs that I mentioned in the good section are the only songs that give this album some replay value. The rest of this album is duller than an episode of Mad TV. Now you can click no.
3-1/2 stars -- Good, but really not much more than a contract fulfillment.......2007-05-23
Ludacris has been on the mainstream side of things for about seven years and he already has five albums out, which makes me wonder if this is his way of pleading, "WILL YOU LET ME OUT OF MY CONTRACT ALREADY???" And as far as released singles, it seems that the same thing always happens: first, there's the leadoff single (which goes without saying); then a month or so later comes two or three singles at once: one for the radio (in this case, "Runaway Love"), and the rest up for battle for the top spot on the Sucker Free Countdown. But Release Therapy pretty much contains what we'd expect from Luda.
Actually, I take that back. Many of the songs on here are storytellings, and fortunately, Luda is better at it than he used to be -- well, most of the time, anyway. He's fine when he tackles the topic of child abuse on the aforementioned "Runaway Love" (with Mary J. Blige). There are also a few more tracks that feature guest rappers that sound better than they usually do, like Young Jeezy ("Grew Up a Screw Up") and Beanie Sigel, Pimp C and C-Murder (the appropriately titled "Do Your Time"). But Luda's foray into gospel, "Freedom of Preach", is pretty okay.
If songs-with-a-message aren't your flavor, there are also several selections on here to bump to, especially the first single "Money Maker" (Luda even instructs you to do just that in the second verse). "End of the Night", the necessary song with Bobby Valentino on the hook, is also pretty good, as is "Tell It Like It Is", which discusses record label politics.
There ARE a few more slip-ups, though. "Girls Gone Wild" is fast-forwardable, and "Mouths to Feed" is hard to get into. R. Kelly's chorus in "Woozy" that features "I always wanted to go down on a girl that reminds me of me" is too bizarre to even try to figure out; and in "Ultimate Satisfaction" (with Field Mob), the second verse is the only part of the whole song that makes any sense (it's not very good, but it makes sense).
Still, as other reviewers have said, this is basically a "safe" Ludacris album, so if you already like him, pick it up.

I'm not impressed.......2007-05-10
For someone who tried his absolute hardest to beat out Janet Jackson for the top spot on the charts, Ludacris's "Release Therapy" is just average. Although every song on this LP is listenable, there is nothing spectacular about the album. Lyrically, production-wise, and creatively, it is OK at best. One thing that is commendable, though, Luda touched on a lot of sensitve issues in a very tasteful and mature way (such as Oprah, Chingy, and how hard it is to be famous). Ludacris has someone blowing his head up because he repeatedly speaks on how great of a rapper he is. Come on now. The innovation in doing that is where?
Luda is not a bad lyricist, but he only impresses me occasionally. It is important for a rapper to separate himself from the rest because otherwise he just becomes a drop in the bucket. What does separate Luda, though, is the fact that his voice is distinctive. He can say one word, and the listener immediately knows that it is him. Not to mention, he has a nice voice.
"Money Maker" was very successful on the radio and music charts, but it is one of his most lackluster songs in my opinion. The beat is alright, but the subject of "shaking your money maker" has been touched so many times that it's annoying. "Ultimate Satisfaction" is one of the album's highlights. In this song, Luda is letting his fans know that he can satisfy them. "Runaway Love" is an alright track. Mary J. Blige helps to give this track life, because it's a bit drab. Luda really could have gotten creative with this song, but apparently his aim was simplicity.
Honestly, I don't really recommend this album. I would suggest either listening to some of Luda's previous works, or simply awaiting his future releases.
Mikeisha's Top 5
1. "Woozy"
2. "Ultimate Satisfaction"
3. "Do Your Time"
4. "Grew Up A Screw Up"
5. "Tell It Like It Is"
Slap.......2007-04-28
If for nothing else, buy this CD for the song Slap.
I'm suprised that song isn't a hit. That's one of those songs EVERYONE can relate to.

I loved this CD. It will be a great album to listen to on the way to the beach this summer!

Perfect Score.......2007-06-08
BT and Stinson are incredible at what they do. This score is one of the best I have heard. I am able to sit down and just listen to this to relax or even write a paper. Worth listening to.
Excellent!.......2007-06-04
I came to this project by way of Tommy Stinson. I've been a huge Replacements fan for a long time as well as a fan of Tommy's various other projects. I wasn't very familar with BT before this, but the electronica thing turned me off a bit. I buy everything Tommy does, so i picked it up and immediately fell in love with it. It's mostly acoustic guitar picking with soft atmospherics layered behind it. The only complaint i have is that some of the songs are too short, but that's to be expected because these songs were written for specific scenes in the movie. This record is very mellow and moody; I recommend it to fans of Tommy or anybody into relaxing music.

For Richard Thompson fanatics (and those who admire the brilliant songwriter and virtuoso guitarist tend to be quite ardent about him), this five-disc set of obscurities, outtakes, live performances, and previously unreleased material is the holy grail. Earlier releases from Free Reed found the label mining the riches of British folk-rock from the likes of Fairport Convention (which featured Thompson in its most popular incarnation), but here they've hit the mother lode. This isn't the place for a newcomer to start with Thompson, as other "best-of" anthologies and career-spanning compilations might provide a better introduction. Instead, this is a treasure trove that will offer discovery for even the most devoted fan. Each disc has a theme--epic ballads, discarded songs, the essential canon--with the disc of cover versions particularly fascinating. From performance tapes, Thompson makes everything from the Who's "Substitute" and Squeeze's "Tempted" to the traditional "Danny Boy" and "Shenandoah" sound like his own. The expansive selection illuminates Thompson as an artist of great range and subtlety, humor and heart, from the intimacy of his solo acoustic performances to galvanizing, electrically charged renditions of masterpieces such as "Shoot Out the Lights," "For Shame of Doing Wrong," and "Calvary Cross." An accompanying 168-page book provides biographical context and exhaustive annotation (though somehows seem to tag "Shoot Out the Lights" as solo acoustic when it's plainly full-band electric). --Don McLeese

An Original Classic Artist In Need Of Your Support.......2007-07-08
I went to order this box set from Amazon july 6, 2007 at 51.99 and then it all of a sudden went back to 79.99. Way over my head and bad business practice for Amazon.
Sorry Richard but some of us really are broke.
I'll get it as soon as possible though - I promise!
BOO for AMAZON changing prices twice in the same day!
Great box set!
I have heard it and find it to be very nicely done and well crafted.
thanks for the good times

Love it or leave it.......2006-10-23
This is gonna be short. Wonderful Box Set. If you love Richard, buy it. Must have for fans. If you don't like him, don't buy it. If you don't know him but want to, see him live first. Not many people could go on after a stellar performance by a group that had T-Bone Burnett, Elvis Costello & Emmylou Harris (Like a couple of weeks ago at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass fest in SF) and not only hold his own (solo, no less) but surpass.
RT is God.......2006-06-18
O.K. I'll let you guys quibble over varying sound quality, but how do you give these performances anything less than 5 stars? I am listening as I am writing this and all I can say is.......OH MY GOD!!! I WANT MORE!!!
A Smorgasbord of Rare RT.......2006-06-08
This box set has a distinctive "bootleg" feel to it, from the somewhat rough cover art and design to the sound quality of the performances, which range from very good to barely acceptable. In spite of that, it's a smorgasbord of rare and unreleased material from Richard Thompson, and the performances across every one of the five discs are uniformly excellent. The set covers virtually his whole solo career (post-Fairport Convention) and even contains a couple of new recording from RT, who had creative control over the whole project. There are a lot of familiar RT tunes here, though none of the final "released" studio versions, and there is no duplication of the tracks from the excellent Hannibal set from the early 1990's, "Watching the Dark." Rather than a chronological overview, the set presents his work with themed discs, including one of "essential" original songs as voted by fans, one of cover songs, and a bonus disc of "very rare" tracks. The focus is on his acoustic side more than the electric (though there is a mostly electric disc of extended "jams"), and at least two-thirds of the material is from live performances, but that's okay as RT is such an amazing live performer. Of particular interest to me are the live tracks from Richard and Linda Thompson, and the humorous songs such as "Alexander Graham Bell", "My Daddy is a Mummy", "Dear Janet Jackson" and his cover of Brittany Spears' "Oops, I Did It Again", as well as his spoof of the traditional "Maire's Wedding" which he calls "Madonna's Wedding". (RT writes some of the darkest lyrics in music, but also has a very wry sense of humor.) The hefty accompanying book by Nigel Schofield is almost big enough for coffee-table status, and contains just about every bit of RT ephemera one could hope for. The price tag is hefty, too, probably due to the set's import status, but it's a treasure trove of rare RT performances, and a must for the avid fan, if not the causal one.
A lot of rarities--definitely for RT completists and folks who want to relive live concert experiences! .......2006-06-06
I love the set, but it's not really for everyone. If you've been to Richard Thompson's concerts and enjoy cuts like "Dear Janet Jackson," and "My Daddy's a Mummy" and want to hear more live numbers like you heard them at the concert--this is your CD compilation. If you prefer studio renditions and not straying off the path, this is going to be too esoteric for you.

Trout Fishing in America has wide appeal.......2007-04-12
After hearing Trout Fishing in America at a concert in my home town, I decided to buy a CD for my husband and me and one for my 7-year-old granddaughter. When we got together, we played (her) "Big Trouble" and (our) "My Best Day". I don't know who enjoyed it more--the children, the parents, or the grandparents. My granddaughter was soon singing along with "When I Was a Dinosaur" and other favorites on the CD which is not surprising when you consider how many times she listened to it during the weekend. Ezra Idlet and Keith Grimwood are wonderful musicians, clever song-writers, and just all-around great entertainers. Here's to many more years of their audience-pleasing CD's and personal appearances.
Big Trouble is great.......2006-08-09
My favorite is still Family Party, but that's probably because I've had it for years--I bought it even before my son was born. We enjoy Big Trouble, we just have to listen to it more often to really get to know the songs. We especially like the title song--that poor kid, in such big trouble because the monsters have wrecked his house!
Great, Upbeat Music for the whole Family!.......2006-07-02
I used to work at a toy store and believe me we had to play some really bad music, but when this cd was on, the time just flew by. Now I listen to this music with my son. It is really upbeat and is something I would recommend when you need to pass the time like when you're in the car or cleaning up. The songs are creative, not the same old sing alongs you get on all the other kids' music cds.
this is so funny!.......2006-03-10
I HAVE THREE CHILDREN WHEN I PUT THIS CD ON WE LAUGH AND IT'S EVEN FUN FOR ADULTS! I THREW HER OUT THE WINDOW! MY SON WHO WE GOT THIS FOR HIS BIRTHDAY LOVED HEARING THIS ON HIS SCHOOL BUS!HE TOLD ME THAT HE WANTED THIS FOR HIS BIRTHDAY.WELL THANK GOODNESS AMAZON HAD IT AND FOR CHEAP! I NEVER KNEW THAT ORDERING COULD BE SO FUN AND FAST!
The Reason I rarely buy stupid popular character kids music.......2006-01-07
Popular fad kids music willl never be able to compare to the perfection that is Trout fishing in America. Fresh, funny, lively addictive music the whole family will want to listen to together.
I was introduced to Trout fisning in America long before I had kids. My husband had 2 CDs fromhis college days.
Every single son on this tape is memerable. YOu will find yourself singing, or trying to sing along in the case of Proper Cup of Coffee!
There are way too many laugh out loud lyrics, the music is contagious and makes you want to move.
Lastly Lullaby is actually a sweet beautiful piece.
NOt only are they fun songs but these 2 men have great voices!

Album Description
If you can imagine Portishead, with more accsessible vocals, rich harmonies, classical style piano playing, gorgeous string sections and the most amazing beats ever programmed, then you have Daughter Darling. This project is the culmination of 6 years of beat production, the most talented piano, guitar and string players, a world class DJ battle champion and a girl who knew she was going to be a singer since 3 years old. Every song has been carefully crafted into a masterpiece.
Natalie's unique voice provides a strong basis for music that is dark and moody. The title track "Sweet Shadows" deals with her emotions of moving to a big city, feeling alone with only the shadows to guide her as she walks around seeing many "soul-less" people. Voodoo games, is about an ex-boyfriend who can't let go, and uses a voodoo doll to try and continue to keep his violent hold on her from afar.
Customer Reviews:
Sarah McLachlan Meets Portishead.......2007-02-27
Sara McLachlan-esque breathy, ethereal, yet powerful vocals get a trip-hop spin from Daughter Darling, and it's a case of two great tastes that taste great together. DJ Infiniti's non-intrusive scratching raises the group's moody, folkish, Celtic-tinged singing and tunes from the list of Lachlan-wannabes and helps the group stake out territory of its own. However, the album is not so trip-hoppy that I think it would only appeal to fans of that unjustly overlooked subgenre; the voice and piano work are strong enough to carry the album even without the edge Infiniti provides. The album is consistent in quality all the way through, with numerous highlights, and is enjoyable enough to sustain repeated listens. But beware of listening too carefully: the quality of the music exceeds the quality of the lyrics, and you'll start to notice if you concentrate too hard. The best way to listen to this album is to lie back let it wash over you without reflecting on it too much. Let Daughter Darling hypnotize you. You'll get lost in this album and love it.
Quick P.S........2007-01-23
The first track on Sweet Shadows, Broken Bridge, was also used in the first episode of Bones, Season One - that's how I heard of it, though it took some internet research to track down Daughter Darling - glad I did!
notice how the people that give this bad reviews sound really pretentious & dumb..........2006-07-15
so dont trust them...all of these songs have a different make up (within the genre of course...there's not as much range as one song being gabber waltz & the other a sadcore country garage techno experiment...who would really wont that?)...the first six are great then the rest are all good as well but it's hard to stomach such a well-crafted cd all at once...might have to take a break, listen to something less interesting for a min. (i.e. lamb, nightmares on wax, k&d whatever whatever)
bottom line people!!!!
...this is the best american trip-hop outfit out right now!
Sweet Shadows Indeed!.......2006-05-10
Daughter Darling has missed the trip hop boat by about a decade. Still, the album doesn't seem dated, and being a fan of trip hop, I'm glad to see a group still out there producing original stuff in the genre. Sweet Shadows may actually be one of the better trip hop albums, as in it is more balanced. It's less depressing than Tricky, but less poppy than Olive. It's got a nice combination of dark melodies that are somewhat catchy, while not being over the top in either direction.
The whole album is quite good and coherent. It sets the tone with the opening chords and doesn't waiver too far from that place of calm, subdued and perhaps a bit sad. This type of music always somewhat borders on the sentimental, melodramatic, self-pitying pit fall, but they manage to skilfully hover the rim without falling in. Honestly I was a bit scared when I saw there was a cover of Dust in the Wind on the album, but somehow they pull it off and make you almost forget it was a Kansas song.
This is a great album if you actually enjoy a rainy day every once in a while. It is quite mesmerizing and hypnotic, but then of course it also runs into the danger of being repetitious. Perhaps it depends most upon your mood when you listen to it, as to what form it takes. Either way, it is definitely worth checking out! And just one more thing, the album title Sweet Shadows is perhaps the perfect description for the mood and tone of this album.
Must Have.......2006-04-11
