Deffinately NOT cold and dead.......2007-07-07
I don't normaly do reviews, nor do I normaly recomend music to my friends and family. But I did with this CD.
Perhaps one of the best CD's I've ever bought. I recomended it for all of my friends and family that enjoy instumental music.
Buy this CD and enjoy.
easily their best album.......2007-06-16
I totally love this album. Tracks such as "Your hand in mine" are really wonderful. In their previous album they sounded like GYBE wannabes but here they have their own voice. This is the kind of music you would want to listen to while driving through a lonely Texas highway late in the night.
Excellent ambient music for reading/coding........2007-05-14
EITS did a great job with this album. The music works well in the car or at home while working.
melodophonic.......2007-05-14
good. this is the first explosions in the sky cd i own. i suppose a measure of how much i like them is the fact i will probably buy another. yet nothing about them really grabbed me. fairly a-typical. more melodic than i prefer, a distinct lack of the chaos factor thats so appealing about godspeed you black emperor or early mogwai. but still the peaks of the songs, especially the second track, are pleasing. those of you who found the length of some of mogwai's songs tedious explosions in the sky are less so. i found this meant alot of what did happen seem too condensed but others will be refreshed. the artwork is pretty cool aswell. overall: good. and tag suggestions are stupid
Woah.......2007-02-26
There are plenty of words that come to mind when listening to this CD. Awash, beauty, melancholy, transcendence... the list rolls on. Unfortunately, these aren't exactly words that can be put together to form sentences, just as the songs of Explosions in the Sky can't easily be translated into a review. This album, as a blurb on the cover says, will destroy anyone who has a soul. Anyone who has been in love, has a heart, or has awoken in the morning feeling like things just might end up okay. The melancholy that the album brings also carries with it an intense feeling of hope, especially in the first song, First Breath After Coma. As it crescendos, one can't help but just feel that things will be alright, and there's something to this life, if we can just get it right. And that's what this album seems to be about; destroying anyone with a soul, and leaving them okay.

DON'T buy this if you want to listen to it on your computer.......2006-03-28
I enjoy Chris' music quite a bit. I won't pretend to be a music critic but his music is simply excellent.
But there's a problem with this CD. When I try to listen to it on my computer, it launches a music video that takes over my screen entirely. You can't listen to the normal songs on the CD. If you try to go back to the work that you were doing before you put the CD in the drive, then the Chris Rice video stops.
That's right, you have no choice but stopping whatever work you were doing and watching the Chris Rice video. You can't just listen to the music while you do your work.
Maybe this is some kind of reaction to copyright infringement. I think it's a shame. I'd be surprised if it were Chris' idea.
But when I listen to it in my car or living room stereo, it's a great CD ! I do wish that Chris would put more new songs on each CD though. Many of these are repeats.
Come to Jesus.......2005-05-08
"Untitled hymn (Come to Jesus)" is a great song!
Get a taste of the album 'Run the earth...watch the sky' by Chris Rice by hearing about the songs.
Other side of the radio: I don't really like this song much. It's okay though. 1/5
Everything's OK: This song is really encouraging. a nice, upbeat feel to it 3/5
Nonny Nonny: Not so upbeat. Seems softer. Pretty good 3/5
Untitled Hymn (Come to Jesus): This is a really good song. I love it so much. it is probably the best song on the album. I love it! 5/5
Smile: This radio single is really good. It's not really a ballad, though it's not that upbeat. It's abotut he longing for Heaven 2/5
8th Grade: An upbeat kind of song. Cool for driving to :-) Good 2/5
My Catherdral: I like the lyrics. It is a nice song. accoustic guitar driven. The echoeing is a nice touch, it makes him sound like he's in a catherdal! A nice tale of his past. I like the strings 3/5
Me and Becky: This is one of the best songs on the album. An upbeat tune. 4/5
Wonder: One of the not so great songs on the album, though it's not that bad. 1 1/2 /5 (That says one and a half out of five)
Spare an angel: A nice song. quiter. Chris goes a bit too high in this song..sort of. it's nice. 3/5
Circle Up:I think it's pretty good. Not really a ballad, not really upbeat. It's great. 3/5
From Opposite Sides of the Universe.......2005-02-16
"Run the Earth, Watch the Sky" is an exquisite set of pop tunes about faith and God. On most CDs, if there are 2 or 3 songs I really like, it's successful. On this disc, there are 6! "Wonder" is a joyful pop nugget with Chris' expressive baritone gently caressing the lyric, "Shall we dance from opposite sides of the universe? And we'll shine the glory behind all our spins & turns as we orbit our way through the sky." What a lovely picturing of man reaching for God and God for man! "My Cathedral" is a sweet acoustic melody about the joys of worshipping outdoors, "Here beneath the blue skies, I ran down to be baptized." "Circle Up" is a sweet melody with a delightful vision of men & angels all joined in worship, "Great & small, angels all & seraphim, grab a hand, twirl a dance, circle up & worship him!" It's a delightful track. "Untitled Hymn" is a comforting melody that starts simple with piano before the strings come in as the song builds from loneliness to joy. "Spare an Angel" is a song that touches a deep chord for those whose hearts are troubled and no human comfort seems to satisfy. It's an elegant statement of compassion. "Me & Becky" is such a perky track that it makes me think it ought to be a TV theme song. While I've cited my favorites, none of the other tracks are weak. This set by Chris Rice is extremely strong with a positive delightful vision. Bravo!
Excellent CD.......2004-04-11
As usual, Chris Rice doesn't disappoint you. My family and I have enjoyed all his prior releases and this one is up there with the rest. This one in particular brings to mind a fond recollection of my childhood and my family.
I get everything by both Genie and Chris.......2004-04-07
I got into Chris Rice's music with his former label-mate Genie. Saw them both signing autographs at a show.
I love both Genie and Chris Rice, but I have to admit that my all-time favorite CD is Genie's Higher Than The Heavens CD - I got that one with her awesome Amazon deal 4 CD set for under 30 clams!
I get everything by both Genie and Chris, and this Chris CD is really great. He and Genie are both so humble and it shows through in their voices.

Customer Reviews:
The picture.......2006-12-11
I haven't purchased the CD but the picture of the inside of a church on the cover is not of a British church, like one would assume since it says its a recording of British choirs. This picture is of Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Just thought i'd let you know. I'll be honest; I'm one to judge things by it's cover and if the company took such care to choose a 'British' church for their British choir CD, I'm willing to bet the music is equally well selected... I'm being sarcastic. But I gave the product 5 stars because I didn't want to hurt its ratings just because i'm cynical. But check out the church if you're ever in Montreal, it's truly beautiful... here I'm not being sarcastic.

After a seven-year absence during which the Norwegian pop trio went off to paint or record solo albums, A-Ha return with Minor Earth Major Sky, their sixth studio album. Recorded in New York over the course of a year, this one is filled with characteristically subtle melodies, sweeping pop production, and a haunting melancholy. Some tracks (like the winsome "Sun Never Shone That Day") border on the bland, but there are songs that have bite--such as the icy, William Orbit-style ballad "Little Black Heart"; the big, blowsy title track; and the satirical "The Company Man," where the band sing frankly of being ripped off by their record label ("Deals fell into our arms / And out of our hands"). There's also a nod to the Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby" in the epic, socially conscious ballad "Mary Ellen Makes the Moment Count." --Lucy O'Brien
Album Description
Sixth album for pop trio from Norway who first hit big in 1985 with their huge hit 'Take On Me'. 13 tracks including the first single 'Summer Moved On'. 2000 release. Standard jewel case.
Album Details
After several years apart, A-Ha have roared back with their best album ever. The songs are expertly crafted, beautifully performed and yet dark and deeply emotional. Morten Harket's voice is crystal clear and he truly inherits the crown of best tenor in rock from the late Roy Orbison. Outstanding tracks include the title track, 'Summer Moved On,' 'The Sun Never Shone that Day,' 'To Let You Win' and the majestic beauty of 'I Wish I Cared.'
Customer Reviews:
is not the genre, they just seem unfocused.......2007-06-29
Luis Mejia (son)- Finally, A-ha decides to continue with their classic line up and start with new material. This was the first album I heard from A-ha, and even though I like the album, I also notice that there's something missing. A-ha came up with a new experimentation, a mild experimentation, and people were expecting the old fashioned A-ha, the same that we love. Well, I gotta admit, they thought it well because synthpop and ballads are completely old fashioned and they would never attract a new audience, but even though couldn't they left just one song in an old way?
It's also noticed that they focused more on rock pieces and alternative moods, the guitars of Paul are amazing, and the use of a mild orchestra in almost every song is a new and nice touch. Within the songs the title track, Summer Moved On, The Sun Never Shone That Day and Thought That It Was You are excellent pieces perfect for adaptating for the new rythm of the album, they have moderate guitars, electronic arrengements and as I named before a great use of orchestra. The songs To Let You Win, Velvet and You'll Never Get Over Me are songs that could be easily associated with the style of East Of The Sun..., but still experimental The rest of the tracks are good, but lazy and out of tune.
In conclusion I would say that it's the worst among the best of A-ha's albums, but appreciatable after all.
A-HA Minor Earth Major Sky CD Review.......2007-05-12
This CD is a decent reflection of A-HA's talents, though I would have liked to hear it before buying it. I based my purchase decesion on glowing reviews and was hoping for a little more from the get go, though it does grow on you. No big hits like "Take on Me", and the main reason I bought this CD was for the song "I wish I cared" which is fantastic, and album would get 5 stars if they all followed it's strength.
The best.......2007-03-27
It is the best one so far. I've played it a hundred times. Can't praise it more.
Amazing.......2007-02-08
There are some really, really good songs on this CD. Even my young daughter likes to listen to it instead of wanting to watch a DVD when we're in the car. Love it!
I was hooked from the start.......2006-09-14
I really think this is better than most of A-ha's older stuff from the 80's. I really wish this would have been a bigger hit in the US, none of these songs ever got any radio playtime where I live.
Don't know why all the good music comes out of Europe, very few good American bands in the last 20 years.
Great stuff, all around wonderful songs. Summer Moved On ranks as one of my all time favorites.

Album Description
Joshua is a pioneer in the field of world music, creating a synthesis of east and west. His music is perfect for both meditation and celebration. Sky Kisses Earth is a ticket to the ancient Tantric temples of India. Effortlessly, Prem Joshua blends the magic of Eastern music (Sitar, Tabla, Flutes, Santoor, etc) with transparent and modern Western sounds. These hypnotic grooves, fine textures and rich melodies will transport the listener to a cross cultural mythic land of golden radiance.

Absolutely Fantastic fusion music!!!.......2005-11-15
WOW, WOW WOW!!!! Need I say more. I've never ever listened to anything so melodious and beautiful like Sky Kisses Earth. The music is amazingly soothing and absolutely fantastic. Several of my friends loved it. Would have given 10 stars.
Original, deep, very beautiful.......2004-12-09
I'm wary of europeans playing Indian music and raga fusion. It usually sounds fake. But, not this! It's a balance of East and West that works, and transmits a genuine expression of the heart. It has variety, sophistication and surprise.
A different flavor compared to his previous works.......2002-11-14
I purchased this album in Bombay, along with Mudra, and I noticed that both albums had a lot in common.
You'll notice a lot more use of keyboards, thanks to his collaboration with Manish Vyas.
My favorite track is the title track - Sky Kisses Earth. Starts off with harmonious voices blended with sitar and santoor and soon the beats kick in... like i said, a new flavor! However, his previous albums like Desert Visions and Hamsafar still remain unsurpassed as far as Im concerned, which is why I give this album a 4.

Very beautiful and relaxing music. You are transported from your day to day world and float back to a world of relaxation and tranquility.

"Between Earth and Sky" is a series of "musical landscapes" by Austrian-born multi-instrumentalist Gandalf. Using a musical palette of both electronic and acoustic instruments along with voices, the sound is full, rich, and colorful. In his travels, Gandalf has been touched by the realization that far more things unite than separate the various people and cultures of the world, and his goal in composing and recording is to create music that dissolves boundaries. Folk elements are woven into a symphonic structure, giving Gandalf's music a unique sound. Until this release, his recordings were mostly available in Europe. Gandalf plays various guitars, sax, piano, keyboards, mellotron, balaphon, and percussion. He is joined by White Horse on cello and vocals; and Peter Aschenorenner on flutes, sax, and backup vocals. Sounds of nature are also woven into several tracks. Each piece flows into the next, making this a sonic journey to another world or another reality. Citing individual pieces doesn't make sense for this album since it was conceived as a whole experience, and you can't always tell exactly where one piece ends and another begins. As the album evolves, various musical styles flow in and out - some more rhythmic and even tribal, while others are serene and introspective. It's a fascinating musical journey that is both soothing and uplifting. Real Music's Robin Algaze outdid herself on the artwork - a beautiful job!

Worth it.......2007-04-16
Fun, funky band with a unique sound. If you like the songs they've realeaed, you are likely to enjoy the whole album.
Instant Classic.......2007-03-07
Straight up rock and roll has been hard to come by in recent years. The Colour step in to fill that void with "Between Earth and Sky". The band offers a modern, organic take on classic rock. The band immediately sparks comparisons to The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Steppenwolf, etc. but honestly...isn't it about time music in that vein came back around? They successfully channel their influences without being imitators through mockery.
Recorded in the same vintage styling, "Between Earth and Sky" is far from a plastic record thats released by every other rock band these days. From start to stop, the album is totally cohesive. While the engineering is spotless, it purposefully lacks that final coat of gloss.
The songs are direct and to the point, dark but not black. The lyrics dabble in mystic poetry while, at the same time, being totally relatable. These guys are also true musicians, playing everything from guitar, bass, and drums to piano, harmonica, and the occasional tambourine.
All in all, The Colour do not set out to reinvent the wheel. They do offer a solid album that will stand the test of time. These guys have a bright future ahead of them.
If you remotely like the classic rock greats, pick this album up. There are also tons of other good bands coming out of LA at the moment. The Shys, Cold War Kids, and Delta Spirit are all worth looking into. Its about time the "roll" was put back into "rock".
Great Album.......2007-03-02
This album is certainly a keeper. Every song on the cd is emotionally-driven and well-written. And, in this day and age, my friend, that's a rarity in itself. If you like the Doors, The Black Crows, and The Rolling Stones, you're gonna love The Colour!!!!
3.5 Stars.......2007-03-02
When pressed to describe the sound of new Los Angeles throwback rock act The Colour, a plethora of words come to mind. Passionate? Oh, yeah! Emotional? Totally. Talented? Undoubtedly. Guitarists' David Quon and Luke MacMaster's licks are hot as the sidewalk in Dallas in July and tasty as a good burger. Vocalist Wyatt Hull croons, yelps, and shouts his way through the record quite amicably. All these qualities and more come to mind, when listening to their first release on the re:think label.
But I'm sure you've got another question. "Are they original," you ask. Ask me that and my up-till-now free flowing praise ebbs a little. I hesitate and am forced to mutter, "Well, not quite." While Hull's got a great voice, he channels Jim Morrison on the opening track, "Don't You Hear it Call," and, more obviously, Robert Plant on "Devil's Got a Holda Me" and "Silver Meadows."
However, if you can get over the fact that this music's been played before, you're in for a real treat. Tracks like "Save Yourself" and "Kill the Lights" bristle with fervor and passion that delights in the art form that is and was rock and roll with sprawling guitar solos and lyrics that span from broken relationships to politics to religion. Tension fills "Our Children Were the Stars," with copious (yet ambiguous) spiritual imagery:
I'll go to the mountain side
To the roots of the sea
You've grown up so wild
You were like the mustard seed
I was the sun
You were the moon
And our children were the stars
On Between the Earth and Sky, The Colour sounds like a band still trying to find themselves, as this album pays more homage to its heroes than establishes a sound all its own. However, it has enough classic rock swagger andcockiness to imply that the future is bright for the California rockers.
Between Earth and Sky is nice........2007-03-01
While still relatively unknown, The Colour is a typical indie rock band however with balls of steel. That might sound a bit verbose, but it is the truth. The band borrows its raw blues rock from more contemporary artists The Black Keys but incorporates itself into something dreamy and surreal.
Between Earth & Sky, the band's debut album, kicks off with "Can't You Hear It Call" and once the bass line sweeps the dirt from the ground, it pretty much never stops cleaning. The guitar hints at hooks but the vocals that derive from that swinging sixties tone is where it's at. Imagine lounge rock but with the volume a tad up.
"Save Yourself" is inarguably the band's strongest song and while the album peaks at this third track, there is room left over for some ambient tunes that follow the similar formula yet bear enough difference to be considered sublime.
"Just A Taste" is a hip swaying number carved straight from a bar in Louisiana. Harmonicas, crashing drums, and lengthy guitar riffs pillow a beautiful song that should do wonders for the band's live act.
Filling the middle, the surfer swinging "Black Summer" picks up the album's pace yet only if one can shake the infectious chorus to the previous "Devil's Got A Holda Me" which sounds like a song either Robert Plant or Jack White might pen.
The ballad "Dirge To Earth & Sky" soars and scales but not to any new heights and it seems quite forgettable once the song is finished through. Unfortunately this closes the album on a more melancholic vibe instead of the dashing pre-mature fun that was seen in the previous eleven tracks.
While The Colour may be making the preliminary rounds of music show business by taking a few shows here and there and opening for bigger acts, its sound should find a home in the iPod generation. This is not a classic album or the most impressive debut but in a world filled with every nickel and dime band alongside the pricey patch of jam bands, it is nice to see simplicity turned into something genuinely decent to listen to.
That is where The Colour refuses to fail.

WOW!.......2006-07-18
You know those moments in life that you'll always remember where you were and what you were doing? The day I first heard "Earth & Sky" is one of those days for me. I was spellbound from start to finish. If you love masterful songwriting, get this cd! If you love great song-enhancing arrangements, get this cd. If you love performances from the heart, get this cd. If you love great music, get this cd.
I agree with the others that "Maple's Lament" is just one of the most unique and greatest songs ever. Singing along w/the soulful harmonies of "Haven of Mercy" is an absolutely religious experience, likewise w/"Hills of Home". And what a gift Lewis gives to the world in sharing the insights of her dying grandmother in "I Saw the Light".
Thanks, Laurie!
"The Maple's Lament" makes the album.......2006-05-03
This album offers good, quality bluegrass from start to finish. Laurie Lewis writes and sings from the heart, without excessive embellishment. Her voice is suitable to the music, and her arrangements and instrumentation are mainly free from gimmicks. Like life, her work speaks for itself. On the whole, I would give this four stars, but for the presence of a masterpiece on this album.
What makes the album special is "The Maple's Lament." This song is the saddest piece of existentialism I have ever heard. Accompanied by the mournful wail of a solo violin (being played on two strings), the singer tells the tale of the maple tree, its memories and its days in the sun. I won't ruin the surprise any further for anyone who may not guess the point. The solo violin is beautifully played.
Just buy it.......2005-08-24
I had not heard of Laurie Lewis until I heard her on satellite radio playing "The Maples Lament" from the CD. I'm a great fan of such music and bought the album based on that single song. Wow! This has become the CD I listen to most. All I can say is buy it you won't be disappointed.
Draws from Laurie's three "Flying Fish" albums.......2002-11-07
Vocalist, instrumentalist, and bandleader Laurie Lewis displays her many musical talents and abilities with the release of Earth & Sky: Songs Of Laurie Lewis. This outstanding CD collection draws from Laurie's three "Flying Fish" albums, as well as four previously unreleased tracks. Very strongly recommended listening for fans of bluegrass, folk, and homegrown country music, Earth & Sky includes Girlfriend, Guard Your Heart (2:41); Green Fields (4:48); Don't Get Too Close (3:34); Love Chooses You (4:31); Texas Bluebonnets (4:10); Fine Line (4:48); Old Friend (3:56); The Maple's Lament (4:51); The Bear Song (3:50); The Light (3:55); The Point of No Return (3:55); Restless Rambling Heart (3:37); I'd Be Lost Without You (4:53); The Hills of My Home (2:38); Haven of Mercy (5:05); and Magical Light (3:55).
Singer, songwriter, fiddler extraordinaire!.......2000-09-23
Other Laurie Lewis albums allow you to enjoy her remarkable affinity for Bill Monroe and other bluegrass classics. On this album, her own songs are showcased, and it is an incredible collection. There is some awesomely serious songwriting talent on display here -- every song is full of heart, intelligence, informed by eyes that seem to see a lot more of both human nature and the natural world than most others manage to notice. Lewis's albums are always notable for their excellent song selection, and this album helps us understand why: what she herself writes is unfailingly beautiful, intelligent, and musically top-notch.
And it would be remiss of me not to comment on her incredible vocals. She effectively uses her voice as a complex, rich instrument, and it sounds better and better with every release. Her mastery and control of her voice just seem to be on an ever-upward curve. At some points in her songs, I listen to what her voice does just within the space of a single word, and I'm amazed.
Whether it's Lewis's vibrant fiddling matched to the great story of "The Bear Song," the plaintive "Love Chooses You" (with incredible resonator guitar backup by Jerry Douglas) or the norteno/swing-inflected "Texas Bluebonnets," this is a collection you shouldn't miss. It will be one of your favorites right out of the box, then will grow on you even more with every hearing.

During 2005-2006, Key of David Ministries made efforts to record every event that Jason Upton and his team was scheduled to do. The idea was to capture a LIVE recording of the particular song cycle that Jason planned on entitling Beautiful People. At the moment, it did not seem like this goal was accomplished, but sometimes hindsight is 20/20.
At two different events - one at Life Center International in Harrisburg, PA and the other at Morningstar Christian Fellowship in Fort Mill, SC - several of the recorded moments were beckoning to be shared with a larger audience. The compilation of these moments both audio and video - encompasses Between Earth and Sky.
