    After a long and successful career on other labels, it seemed at one point during the nineties that Steve's hit-making days were finished. Steve proved that this was not so by securing a contract with Capitol and recording three excellent albums of original material for them of which this was the first.

    The title track, a fun duet with Garth Brooks, was no doubt expected to be the big hit from the album and it certainly opens the album in great style. However, it is the second track (Holes in the floor of heaven) that really caught the public imagination. This is a very sad death song of a type that is comparatively rare these days. Such songs were far commoner in the sixties - in pop music as well as country music.

    Another outstanding track is the second duet on the album (What if it's you), this one being with Anita Cochran who also wrote the song. This duet also appeared on her debut album (Back to you).

    Quite apart from the three tracks already mentioned, this album contains many other great songs including I don't know how to fix it, Big old empty house, Smoke from an old flame and A six pack to go.

    This is an outstanding album by a man with one of the finest voices in country music.

    This cd contains a special song for our family. "Holes in the Floor of Heaven" was my grandmother's favorite song, so when she passed away in september 2004 we played it at her funeral. So we have bought multiple copies of this cd so that all of our family can share in the memories.

    Besides this particular song there are lots of good songs on the cd. I listen to it regularly.

    Steve Wariner shows none of his superior talent on this album as he has with previous hits such as "All Roads Lead to You" and "You Can Dream of Me." Instead, we get smarmy, unbearably syrup like the insipid "Holes in the Floor of Heaven." The fact that songs like this win awards isn't a clue that the song is good: just how out of touch the C&W industry truly is to the fans. Nothing on this album is really memorable or will have the staying power of his prior hits. Buy Steve's Ultimate Collection instead.

      If you like the blues as I do (all kinds of blues), then you'll want to add this to your collection. From the soulful sounds of Susan Tedeschi and Lonnie Brooks to the fast paced "honky tonk" style (ala Delbert McClinton) of George Thorogood and Son Seals, you'll get a taste of the blues at its best! And let's not forget the great guitars of Stevie Ray Vaughn and Freddie King.
      Harley Davidson has some great classic rock ablums out and this is a fantastic addition to the collection! I don't know who they have picking the cuts for their albums but I sure hope they keep the series going!

        If the 10 years these Texas guitarists have spent as a team exploring the world bar by bar has been "research," what they've learned is how to please a crowd. The formula's simple: no-frills songs about women and working for a livin', set to meat-and-potatoes arrangements that leave plenty of room for their guitars to roam. Kubek's six-string snarls the loudest, hitting Albert Collins-style sustains and grinding out beefy chords. King skirts around the fringes with his sweet-toned, jazz-informed fills or works at groove-level, anchoring things with his basic, chopping, R&B-style chording. King's vocals are really his trump card. They're smooth and slinky when he's romancing in "Make It Right" or gravelly as Kubek's fluid guitar when he's a driven man in numbers like "Runnin' Blind." The album ends with the kind of guitar grand finale that sets a crowd on fire just after last call. The tune, "Standing in My Door," lets both six-stringers sting. Bnois King lays down a red carpet of sliding chords and Smokin' Joe struts through, doing his own dirty take on B.B. King's vibrato-laden style, bending notes and letting them sing. Then Bnois take the lead, his cleaner fretboard diction cutting even closer to B.B.'s lines before he returns to the microphone to sing the closing chorus. Fans of the Lone Star State's blues guitar tradition need to check these guys out. --Ted Drozdowski

        I've seen them live three times(even though I live in California) and have 3 of their CD's. I can tell you, this is the best thing they have ever done! No bad songs on this one. Great vocals; trading leads between Joe's Strat and Bnois' Gibson, great stuff. If you like Texas blues, this is the CD.

        Yes, this is a great CD. Completely agree. But just to make you all jealous, I have to mention that I bought it in the "closeout" bin at Ameoba records in Berkeley CA for $1.99. Ha ha! Just goes to show you that sometimes it is worth digging in order to find a gem. During this same "expedition" to Ameoba, I also found another great unknown named Eric Bibb...accoustic blues...very good stuff. Also only $1.99!

        The talent of this band has been overlooked for years due to other talent that has come out of Texas. Worth a listen, and on the first pass if you like blues or blues-rock, you most likely will appreciate this CD.

          Great ALBUM- this is what people are talking about when they advocate buying a whole album of one singer to get scope and a real feel for someTHING. Lonnie Brooks's voice is utterly seductive, and he USES it to sing the guts out of and into a lovely variety of bluesy/country songs and yet he sounds plenty city. Oddly enough, he reminds me of Otis Clay and Maria Callas in that you are likely to believe every word he sings. This is a special treat in an area that so often bounces around among formula blues, country smarm, and roadhouse noise just for the noise of it. Fun variety of good musicianship from everybody playing.
