Is Sarah McLachlan a secret punk rocker? To be sure, her rebellion is hushed. On Afterglow, her first studio album since 1997's Surfacing, McLachlan's music is as tempered as ever; at times even the piano chords at the heart of the sound are tucked neatly beneath layer upon layer of strings and overdubbed voices. Listen to what's being sung within this soothing aural bed, though, and hear the just-before-sleep murmurings of the quietest riot grrl: "I'm a train wreck waiting to happen.... a wildfire born of frustration," "How stupid could I be.... you're no good for me, but you're the only one I see," "I have to push just to see how far you'll go." The latter song ("Push") resolves itself with the assurance, "You complete me." Ultimately, McLachlan fans will be comforted again by what turns out to be her reliably untroubled aesthetic. --Rickey Wright --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

2 out of 5 stars Cornering the consumer.......2006-09-08

You know, this video for Afterglow really caught me by surprise in a good way. I immediately went out to fetch a copy of SWITCH and thankfully I was able to listen to it first. Of course, Afterglow IS NOT THE SAME TRACK ON CD AS IT IS IN THE VIDEO. So I did not end up buying the album. Kind of like how all these "definitive" best of collections that always seem to leave off at least 1 or 2 sadly neglected hits. (Jackson Browne double cd, for one)

So I looked for the CD single of Afterglow. And it's friggin $12. More with s/h. Doesn't this seem rather steep for a CD SINGLE??? Sheesh.

I'm a music fan in every sense but it's reasons like this that make downloading for free, seem fair and justified.

5 out of 5 stars A Lovely Little Track.......2006-07-15

INXS is almost readily associated with rock music and though there're certain flashes of rock in this song "Afterglow",it is actually a very soft song and a romantic one too. This is an immensely romantic song and is really pleasing to the ear. "Afterglow" underlines INXS's massive success and creativity and is a great song in all aspects.

Album Description

Full title - Afterglow - The Essential Collection 1971-1994. Daryl Braithwaite has been a part of Australian musical life for more than 30 years, his powerful, evocative, reassuring voice leaving its mark on the musical generations of the 70s, 80s & 90s. It was in 1971, when his distinctive (but rarely used since) falsetto sent Sherbet's 'Can You Feel It Baby?' into the Top 20, that his remarkable chart supremacy began. By the end of the decade Sherbet had notched up more than 20 hits (including the international hit 'Howzat') while eternal 'King of Pop' Daryl had notched up another half dozen as a solo entity. After three albums with the Sherbs, he soared back into huge profile during the late 80s, in the wake of John Farnham's similar renaissance, with the albums, Edge & Rise & a string of smash national hits. This unique multi-label, cross-era, 21-track single disc career overview package

5 out of 5 stars A collection-item for Baywatch-fans !.......2004-10-13

Also for Baywatch-fans this CD from Daryl Braithwaite is a worth recommendation to their collection. The CD contains three smashing hits that were used for various Baywatch-episodes.

The song "As the days go by" was used for the episode "The sky is falling" (1989 / season 1). While hearing this "warm" song, you'll remember Captain Thorpe on lifeguard duty.
The second song, "The Horses", was used for the episode "Game of chance" (1991 / season 2). While hearing this song, you'll remember Shauni riding a horse on the beach.
The third song, "One summer", was used for the episode "Pier Pressure" (1992 / season 3). While hearing this song, you'll remember lifeguard Summer Quinn taking a hot summer beach patrol.

If you are interested in songs that featured on Baywatch, you can buy here on Amazon.com the Book: "Baywatch - Rescued from Prime Time". This book contains all credits from songs/artists (like Daryl Braithwaite), that you can buy here on Amazon.com

The soundquality of this CD is excellent.
Higly recommended because this Daryl Braithwaite represents the classical Baywatch-music.
