The people who felt betrayed when Linda Eder covered several pop songs on 2002's Gold will be relieved that her follow-up, Broadway My Way, is a return to the Great White Way. As if to prove that she isn't limited to either the songs of Frank Wildhorn or ballads, Eder tackles some well-known show tunes. The ballads tend to be overwrought, so it's best to look for the uptempo numbers. The singer's take on "Some People" is technically fine but so va-va-voom showbiz that it lacks the deranged edge that makes the song so compellingly dramatic. Things work a lot better on "I Am What I Am": while Eder doesn't take it to the top (or rather over the top), this is as close as she gets to Mermanizing a number. Elsewhere, "Don't Rain on My Parade" (immortalized by Streisand) and "Man of La Mancha" are appropriately brassy and triumphant, with Eder roaring her way through both songs. Fans of both Eder and Wildhorn should note that the singer reprises her Svengali's "Gold," the title track from her previous album, and an excerpt from his long-in-the-works Camille Claudel. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Linda Eder - Great Voice.......2007-07-06
This lady has one great voice. She can certainly sell a song. My only reservation about her is that she's a bit cocky. I think she could use some humility.
Not a voice.......an instrument.......2007-02-17
Unbelievable breath control, phrasing, and style. My 10 yr. old Granddaughter who heretofore has listened and loved the usual rap
and hip-hop, heard me playing this disc and begged me to buy her
one........and I did, and she plays it all the time, and to her
friends. Linda Eder exceeds the Streisand mystique by far.
the best female singer of the great american standards........2006-07-24
i am turning 60 years old this year. i went to my 1st.broadway
musical in 1960. over the years i have had the honor to see
almost all of the giants of american song, garland, streisand,
patti lupone, lena horne, betty buckley, barbaracook etc. in
"broadway, my way" linda eder cements her place as the best of the best. from an anthem like "i am what i am" to the lovely
"on the street where you live" captures you body and soul.
i loved this album, and don't ever miss a chance to see her live. JOHN POWER
The powerful and beautiful voice of Linda Elder.......2006-02-23
A great selection of songs. Tremendous amount of energy in Linda's voice. I just love it.
Linda Eder shines with her Broadway album.......2006-02-18
Wow! Linda Eder has an outstanding voice. She sells Broadway in the styles of Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand. After hearing this you will want more.

the ultimate concert.......2007-05-12
Here you will listen all guitar players of thin lizzy, is the "Adios" of Phil, great concert , la consapevolezza di Phil di abbandonare la band è veramente triste!
Is very sad think about the tragic death of this great musician.
DISAPPOINTING, BUT ENJOYABLE!!!.......2006-12-09
I LOVE Thin Lizzy!!!!! I recently heard "Dangerous Live" & was left charged up & excited like I had been at the arena! Therefore, I was surprised at the mixed & negative reviews on this one. I gave it a listen & I guess I'm somewhere in the middle. I agree that it doesn't match up to the afore-mentioned "Dangerous Live". The main thing is the sound quality. Even before I heard the first one remastered, I was amazed at the reproduction. It sounded like there were no studio overdubs, yet it was as clear as a studio album. This one sounds almost like a bootleg. The guitars sound as if they're cranked too high, & you can hear the feedback. Also, on "Thunder & Lightning", Phil sounds as if he's screaming his lungs out & it almost sounds like Lemmy. However, I'm not saying this isn't enjoyable or worth having BY ANY MEANS!!!!!!!!! I guess the best way to put it is like this: If you're a casual listener & only want a taste of what their concerts were like, DEFINITELY get "Dangerous Live" FIRST!! But, if you've heard that & can't get enough live "Lizzy", or you're a diehard & are undecided about this album, I'd get it. Just don't expect this to be more than what it is.
Awesome Live album, great introduction to the band.......2006-07-11
This has been a cd I have owned for a while and I always come back to it. There are many highlights here...buy it and you will love it!
Thin Lizzy the second.......2005-12-09
No this is not the better of the 2 live albums. It is however a better overview of the whole Thin Lizzy. If you are already a fan and know a lot of the songs. This is more your album. There is a lot of very good slow songs, just as on any album. There is also a lot of great rockers. . I think this one shows a lot more Phil than the first Live and Dangerouse.
sublime.......2005-02-09
The last live Lizzy release features the 1983 lineup with John Sykes/Scott Gorham tearing up the axe duties with the various guitarists featured throughout the Lizzy career according to song. Eric Bell, Gary Moore, Snowy White, Scott Gorham, Brian Robertson, and John Sykes all get the chance to cut heads again with the man himself in this heavily edited effort. I swear that Dave Flett (of Manfred Mann fame) even gets to get his chance on stage here but I'm not sure to who gets credit here on what song! The set lists contains a host of vintage Lizzy with a heavy portion given to the 1983 lineup featuring the Sykes/Gorham head-cutters. The songs are delivered with fury and mayhem as one would expect from a Lizzy concert, with much more intensity than the "Live and Dangerous" LP. Contrary to many hard-core Lizzy reviews, this albums brings the fire and brimstone right in the face of the listener without asking for quarter. Hands down to me this is the most bruising, face-kicking, barroom brawling Thin LIzzy live effort ever commited to vinyl. Strong portions to note are Johns Sykes amazing solo in "Still Loving You", possibly the most emotional solo ever layed down, be it over-dubbed or not. It just burns white-hot! Other hot spots are "Thunder and Lightening","Angel of Death" and "Waiting for an AlibI" Scott Gorham performance is of note because he rarely ever leaves the stage, but delivers memorable solo after memorable solo. I can't say enough about Gorham's contribution to rock and roll guitar. The man has quietly went about his business and carved himself out a reputation of delivering some of the most bruising, beautiful, guitar ever set in wax, and I, for one, am thankful for his contribution. I've spent many hours trying to capture his brutal vibrato and note selection on guitar (the man bends notes like a BEAR), and walk away session after session appreciating his work. He is truly an unsung hero in the Thin Lizzy saga. But I digress, "Live Life" brings a resounding close to the Thin Lizzy portion of rock and roll's brief history, and delivers the close with a wink and a punch, much the way Phil Lynott lived his life, hard and fast. The world is a less cool place since the black Irishman has left us for a better world, but I never forget to think about him regularly. If you don't know the music of Phil Lynott, I would suggest you would be a better person for taking the effort to make his work known to you. You'll thank him for it in the end. God Bless Phil Lynott.

This is the one, the album Michael W. Smith has always wanted to make. Put simply, Live the Life is a masterpiece. The Christian music star has finally meshed his impressive songwriting skills and limited but effective singing with a tasteful producer's ear. The anthemic "Missing Person" sets the tone: Smith is playing for keeps. Guitars, not keyboards, play a large role on this release, as evidenced by Smith's cowriting with the vastly underrated Brent Bourgeois on "Live the Life," "Don't Give Up," and "Matter of Time." On the rest, Smith shares songwriting duties with master musician Wayne Kirkpatrick. Each number carries a depth unparalleled and showcases Smith's maturation. Fast, slow, happy, sad, quiet, and loud: you have it all on Live the Life. --Michael Lyttle
Customer Reviews:
Genious!.......2007-01-10
Since my years in Junior High, Michael W. Smith's music has been a large part of the soundtrack of my life. His music speaks to me in volumes. I played his music during the loss of my brother, and I play his music to my two toddler girls. He ranges from fast-paced, upbeat fun, to mellow, soothe-the-soul inspiration. No matter what, all his music is a devotion to Christ and a heartfelt dedication to our Lord. Michael W. Smith's music has been part of my "record" collection for over half my life... and will be through to the end. My thanks and genuine gratitude to Michael and his family, for walking with us in our faith to our Lord, and for sharing such inspirational talent during such worrisome years on this Earth. Thank You, Michael W. Smith... and Thank You, Christ Jesus.
Definitely one of Smitty's better efforts.......2005-04-29
I love this album! The opener "Missing Person" is the best opening for a Michael W. Smith album I've ever heard (with the possible exception of "Sonata in D Major" from the album PROJECT, but that was less than a minute and completely instrumental, so I don't think that counts). But the best song on here is "Never Been Unloved", penned by Wayne Kirkpatrick. It's a gentle and simple ballad that reminds us (sometimes very explicitly) of just how much God loves us and how unlovely we are.
LIVE THE LIFE is not like THE BIG PICTURE or any of Smitty's other "edgier" sounding albums. With the exceptions of "Missing Person", "Love Me Good" (the only cheesy song on the album), and "Don't Give Up", it's all very mellow music. Sometimes, it gets so soft it almost loses the listener. But it's nice to have a break from the harsh RNR sounds every once in a while, and this CD provides an excellent alternative.
Thumbs Up!.......2005-03-05
This album really showcases Michael's lyrical, instrumental, and vocal abilities well, and it is very uplifting! "Missing Person" is a soul-searching song I think we all can identify with, and my favourite on this CD. I like all of the songs on here, but other highlights are "Never Been Unloved" (the sweet and simple truth we all need to hear!), "I Know Your Name" (another reminder of God's loving care), and "Song for Rich" (for all you Scottish/Irish pipes fans out there!) The only drawback on this CD is that God's name is only mentioned a couple of times, and two of the songs are love songs ("A Matter of Time" and "In My Arms Again"), though those tracks are beautiful. Also, "Let Me Show You the Way" is one of my absolute favourites, and it is about friendship, but can be taken in another way. If you don't mind "Christian love songs" and so forth, though, you are guaranteed to enjoy this album! Soothing and inspiring!
Mediocre Album Inspires Man To Write Mediocre Review.......2005-02-25
Discarded titles include "Christian Rock is an Oxymoron" and "Could God Record An Album So Awful That Even He Couldn't Listen To It?"
Much like the rhetorical question just mentioned, this album has left me very much confused. How can my perception be so far off from what everyone else is saying?
Did the record company put the wrong CD in the wrong case by mistake? I read the reviews and I bought the album. I was expecting Christian Rock ecstasy. What I heard was so bad I was actually embarrassed for MWS.
The Amazon reviewer writes: "this album is the one." I, on the other hand, would be hard-pressed to name "one" good song on this album. Is there some profound hidden meaning behind the goofy lyrics of "Love Me Good?" ("On a diet of Mongolian barbecue I conquer the world for a moment / Then the moment is gone")
Which songs are the good ones? Is one of them the Backstreet Boy-ish "Matter of Time?" Should I think that it is a good thing that "Hello-Goodbye" sounds (quite disturbingly) like Enya. And what album wouldn't be complete without a song featuring bagpipes ("Song For Rich")?
Don't fall under the illusion that just because this is a half-way decent effort FOR A CHRISTIAN ROCK ALBUM that it is in any way lyrically or musically inventive. If you are considering buying this album, you would do well to save your money.
Lastly, for those of you who bought the album and did not like it: take heart, you are not alone.
Live The Life Review.......2004-02-18
This cd is one of my favorite ones that Michael W. Smith has released. I find a lot of the songs to be insightful, heart-felt, moving, and the level of emotional content on here is absolutely amazing. Listening to it, I can tell that a lot of work and thought was put into these songs. Anyone struggling with issues of faith, finding yourself, loss, anonymity, or uncertainty will probably get something out of this if they really listen. The songs I Know Your Name, Missing Person, and Hello Goodbye are my favorites, but I like the whole cd. If you want a good love song, there are a couple of them there too. If a good cry is more what you're after, Hello, Goodbye will certainly provide that, at least it did for me as it dealt with the loss of a child. Overall, I'm really glad I bought this. I have owned it for a long time, listened to it for a long time, would probably have worn it out if it had been a tape or if you could do such a thing to a cd. I find that each time I've listened to it I can draw out something new. If you are considering purchasing this, I hope you will be as inspired by it as I am.

This album is her best!.......2005-01-18
This album is nothing short of amazing. I rarely like a cd as a wholw but this was it for me. Every song is perfection and that is really hard to come by this day in age. I especially liked the songs, I Plead Insanity, Little Black Book, Love Revolution, and Do You Feel Like I Feel. Very Highly Recommended!
The Best Belinda of all.......2004-02-20
I know having written this in 2004 it seems unfair to call this the best Belinda of all, but that is just what it is. She brought a maturity and an adult feel to the songs that she lacked with her first 3 solo albums. All the songs here contain what i call the Belinda Carlisle Chorus: The backup singers that explode on the chorus of the songs. I Plead Insanity is by far the best song that Belinda has ever done. Its catchy..has the vocals..and the dance feel behind it, and I am sure if it had been released that this album would have gone MUCH farther than it did. If you like Belinda you will LOVE this album, if you can find it now.
Belinda living and free!.......2003-09-09
This is an incredible album. "Do You Feel Like I Feel?" is one the best pop songs I have ever encountered. The album is wonderful. This should have been a huge hit in America and if it had received any airplay it would have charted. Other gems are "Live Your Life Be Free," "I Plead Insanity," "You Came Out of Nowhere," "Your'e Nothing Without Me."
Underappreciated, yet again!!.......2003-08-19
Once again, Belinda did not get the recognition she deserved with this album. I believe MCA records was to blame for that. She obviously was not as promoted as other artists. Too bad, this album is flawless. Her voice is just spectacular. The only single released here (the US) was "Do You Feel Like I Feel?", and it was all but ignored by radio. The song only managed to reach #75 on billboards top 100 chart. Overseas (where they appreciate better music), the album did very well, as did the song. Other hit singles released off of this album were: Live Your Life Be Free, Half The World, I Plead Insanity, Little Black Book.
All great songs, but the one's to check out on this album, are: You Came Out Of Nowhere, You're Nothing Without Me, Love Revolution. Definitely worth your time and money.

Belinda's winning album.......2005-08-04
This is Belinda Carlisle's best album. I don't want any arguments here! The ones that came before it were pop-lite chart filler and those that came after it were dull rock-by-numbers (Although "A Woman and a Man" is a good runner up). Ok, so the "Runaway Horses" and "Heaven On Earth" albums were huge hits, but they are just so obvious. And I never did go for the obvious.
The songs featured here are rocky and rousing in the fast numbers, and stirring and effective on the slow ones. The weakest track in my opinion is "Live Your Life Be Free", which first of all has a stupid lyric ( as another reviewer has pointed out) that renders the song meaningless. Plus the tune is also too safe and chart-friendly. But straight after that comes "Do You Feel Like I Feel", which is much better, a heavier and more powerful song with a great vocal performance. Plus what's with the fake /double fade out? Belinda's getting very playful here!
The other tracks on the album drift between melancholy ballads like the excellent "Half the World" and "Lonliness Game" (not the usual lovey-dovey sentiments that female pop stars are forever boring us with), and up-tempo workouts like "I Plead Insanity" - a great rock-out with a belting chorus, and another enjoyable theme, lyrically. Plus, my absolute favourite, which is "You're Nothing Without Me". What a title! Belinda really makes this track her own, and it has the best lyrics on the album "I wouldn't walk out that door...do you remember what a drag it was, being so lonely?". Full marks for Belinda for delivering a song this sassy and confident, it sounds great. I hope one day I get an opportunity to sing it to someone's face!
The other tracks on the album are all pleasant listening and well produced, but it's the ones I list above that I think make the strongest impression. Plus this album has a great sleeve! Gorgeous 60's retro styling and photos make this a fantastic package. Just skip "Live Your Life Be Free" and you've got a winner.
Everything that Runaway Horses wasn't.......2004-07-19
Live Your Life Be Free is one of Belinda's top three best albums (right up there with her debut and "Heaven On Earth"). It's everything that Runaway Horses wasn't (which definitely isn't a downside). This album has much more of a Pop Rock vibe, while Runaway mostly had an overall slow, plodding dullness to it. The closest Runaway got to having a Rock song on it was "Leave a Light On". Don't get me wrong, it's a classic song and I love it, but it just doesn't have the punch that "Nothing Without me" and "I Plead Insanity" have. Only about half the songs I totally adore without any doubt (Live Your Life Be Free, Do You Feel Like I Feel, Half the World, You Came Out of Nowhere, You're Nothing Without Me, I Plead Insanity, Emotional Highway), the rest could be considered filler. But since half the album is amazing, I'm willing to forgive the mediocrity of the second half.
Truly underrated.......2004-04-29
While not the next Runaway Horses, its still a worthy album. "Half The World" is simply beautiful, and "Little Black Book", while a sad song, has the same thumping chorus you love to sing along with, just like "Mad About You" and "Leave A Light On" from Belinda's previous efforts. I think the biggest problem, if you call it a problem, is that Belinda strays too far with her other tracks from the established sound of her previous albums. Which isn't a bad thing, but I think it may have turned many people off. Still, for something different and interesting to listen to, check it out.
Some gems hidden here........2004-04-22
Belinda Carlisle does it again, for the most part.
The title track is a lite rocker. The lyrics don't make too much sense though. "Live your life be free, you should be with me." Wasn't the person supposed to be free? Now you're telling them to be with you? Did I miss something here? Not one of my favorite tracks.
Do You Feel Like I Feel is simply amazing. Great beats, light on the guitar but it sounds really cool when it does come in. The lyrics and Belinda's voice are simply phenomenal. I have to sing-a-long to this song. The ending vocals and background vocals by Belinda at the same time are nice. One of the best songs she has ever done.
Half The World is a gem. The lyrics create a beautiful picture. I just want to wrap myself up in a blanket when I hear HTW...such a fuzzy feeling to it, reminds me of "Love Never Dies" from her Heaven on Earth CD in that sense.
You Came Out of Nowhere is cheery, in a way I could gripe about the chorus but I think they have a deeper meaning that make (some)sense. I like it.
You're Nothing Without Me has its moments but there are too many parts of the song I don't like from the boring guitar lick to the whispering to the dopey chorus filled with stupid rhymes. Yeah, I usually skip this one.
I Plead Insanity is so bad it is good. Tough not to sing along.
Emotional Highway is pretty boring. The song gets better as it goes along but not very good as a whole.
Little Black Book is a really sad song. Beautiful melody and half decent lyrics but Belinda's voice MAKES this song.
Love Revolution has the coolest opening of any song on the cd but then it kicks into a more rocking song, eh. Still it is a pretty catchy and fun song. Everything about the chorus I absolutely adore. Good song. Best during the melody moments rather than the rockin moments.
World Of Love is a lot like Live Your Life Be Free, filled with cliche lyrics: "do you believe in destiny, ooo it will set your free." How the hell does destiny set you free? If you're destined to do something you have no freedom. Eh.
Loneliness Game is THE song of the album. I LOVE THIS SONG! It is so sad, yet so beautiful. The ending where Belinda sings "gaaaa~mmeeee"...ah just so powerful. I feel it.
Live Your Life Be Free isn't Belinda's best album but it certainly isn't her worst either. I like 7 out of the 11 songs and can get through the 4 I feel are lacking in some way. If you are a fan of Belinda this is definitely an album to pick up. Loneliness Game, Do You Feel Like I Feel, Half The World, Little Black Book...ahh yes, there are enough magnificent songs here to warrant a purchase.
Wonderful!.......2003-02-25
I have been a Belinda fan since I was 13, and I was so happy when I saw this album at the mall. I wasn't expecting it at all so I bought it. I was in 9th grade then and I'd collected all her albums. I am pretty well rounded when it comes to music and a loyal fan of my favorite singers so I really enjoyed this one. Each one of Belinda's albums is unique and enjoyable, with a variety of different styles. I bought it on cassette back then, and I loved it. I was really depressed back then and this album really helped me. It has a positive quality to it. I remember the pictures of Belinda remind me of the pictures of women in the 40's or when our parents were kids; very classy!
I just saw this CD at a second hand store and I need to go back and buy it because I am wondering WHY on earth isn't it available here anymore? I had forgotten about this Belinda album but now I remember that it is an absolute JOY!

I don't understand why there is only one other review for this. This album is absolutely brilliant and fantastic.
CD6: Go On Tour!.......2006-09-30
The liner notes on this CD tell us rightly that punk is dead. But like all real elegies this one announces a new birth as it proclaims death. I like to think that the manifest references to human sacrifice on the disc (Xipe Totec) might be thinking along these lines. And the new life here is first and foremost musical. You probably know that Chuck Dukowski was the bass anchor (and much more besides) for Black Flag in its early years. Amazing that Black Flag produced more than one of the most interesting bass players in independent music (check out what Kira Roessler has done if you don't already know). Both Dukowski and Roessler have gone on to do a lot of great work in many other contexts. The strange Black Flag/SST diaspora is still pushing musical boundaries everywhere: on this recording for example. "Eat My Life" has a contained but furious punk energy, exceeding minimal structures into free-form chaos and thrash noise, but always coming to ground in the shifting tectonic plates of Dukowski's bass. The band also has horns (bass and clarinet) which adds an unusual and welcome texture -- shades of Beefheart and the Mothers of Invention, as well as other punk/jazz experiments such as Greg Ginn's Mojack and of course Saccharine Trust. But in this Sextet Lora Norton's ferocious voice twists "jazz" beyond all reason. The voice sounds powerful, untrained and direct: a real rock n roll voice. The version of "My War" on here totally rips. "My War" with horns??!! F**king genuius man! This was a Dukowski song for Black Flag, and here it sounds even more furious than the Flag version, which is saying A LOT. But I don't want to wallow in nostalgia: this album is not just a blast from the past, as the funky cover graphics will tell you.. Punk is dead: long live punk. Or whatever we're gonna call it from now...
