Amazon.com essential recording
The phrase "Time to meditate," as crooned by Ladysmith Black Mambazo in the song "Hello My Baby," might well be the most exquisitely sung line in all recorded music. Tastefully produced by Paul Simon following the success of Graceland, 1987's Shaka Zulu finds Ladysmith harmonizing as sweetly in English as they do in their native Zulu tongue (conveniently translated here). In addition to Christian and courting songs, Shaka's most interesting tunes provide glimpses into tribal culture. As Ladysmith observe in "Yibo Labo (These Are the Guys)": "There usually are problems with secret lovers / The elders never approve." --Richard Gehr

lifesavers song.......2006-08-13
what is the name of the lifesavers song and where can you get it
Hello to my baby.......2006-05-31
Oh, such sweet, sweet memories!! My husband played this CD in our delivery room when our son was born seven years ago. "Time to meditate. I send a messenger to tell you that I want to meet you! Come along, come along to kiss me!"
EVERYONE loves this music! Children, women, men... Am I leaving anyone out? It's sweet, thoughtful, masculine, sometimes playful, sometimes deadly serious, but always hauntingly soulful and lovely music.
African Treat.......2004-06-12
Thought I would give Ladysmith a try based on the good reviews it received here and was not dissapointed. The tracks are very rythmic and uplifting. The recording is very good.
excellent music.......2003-08-25
you can't go wrong with this cd. it's excellent uplifting and thoroughly enjoyable music.
One of those I take with me wherever I go.......2003-06-15
I have put it in my cd case when I am working on the road, I've taken it into my massage therapy office to listen to while working on clients, I play it when cleaning around the house... this is one of my most favored, versitile cd's in my collection. I find it relaxing when I need to unwind, and uplifting when I am feeling sluggish. It certainly will not to appeal to all tastes. Not everyone enjoys acapella harmonies or listening to music that is not in ones own language, so I cannot make a blanket "thumbs up" for each taste. If you enjoyed the beginning of the song, "Diamonds on the Souls of Her Shoes" on Paul Simon's *Graceland* cd, you have a pretty good taste of what this cd offers (sans Paul Simon)... and even more so.

Customer Reviews:
the shaka zulu movie soundtrack.......2006-07-14
The album is an supurb combination of African rhythms and classical music that the late Dave Pollecutt composed for the movie, "Shaka Zulu." I especially enjoyed, "Nandi's Theme," along with a few others on the soundtrack that appreared to be my favorite. To bad that when this musical opus was completed that it was not dutifully nominated for an Grammy; at least in the foriegn film and music department,(that is if the Grammy association had one). All in all, I enjoyed listening even to the small snippets of the music by Amazon.com, for not only it made it very enjoyable before I brought the soundtrack on compact disc, it was once again; a surprise to me that the movie even had a sound track for the beginning.
THIS IS A MUST HAVE!!.......2005-07-24
If you've ever seen the mini-series, you probably know that this soundtrack is filled with wonderful music that makes you want to dance and sing along with the songs. It is a SHAME that it is no longer available on CDNOW.COM's catalog. I sincerely hope they'd put it back in stock so that people can have the option to buy it because I'd LOVE to have it and I know plenty of people who feel the same.
if only I had it.......2004-09-14
I was living in South Africa when the film was shown and I loved the music (the film as well). Since, back to France, I have been trying to get the soundtrack but apparently it always happens when it is not available... you see, I even go as far as lovely Canada in order to try to get it (and this time again without success). So, apart from sharing my enthousiasm and memories on the subject, I was wondering if somebody could let me know when it could be available again. I wish I could have it before the end of the year. In the meantime, all the best to our Canadian friends. Une petite française
The Real Deal.......2004-05-24
This album is a fantastic combination of modern classical music, Afro-pop and Zulu traditional music. It opens with the majestic and triumphant Opening Titles-We Are Growing by Margaret Singana (who has since passed on, but was in my opinion a far greater singer, though less acknowledged than Miriam Makeba).
This amazing track is the essence of Shaka Zulu.
There follows contemplative classical pieces like `One Of Those Rare Men' and `Death Of Dingiswayo'.
`Nanmdi's Theme' is a beautiful song with beautiful words. It tells of loneliness and the dream of greater things to come.
There is also the lovely love song `Pampata (Wemsheli Wami). This is all against the backdrop of the dark music of the forests and hills of KwaZulu permeate the album. This is the true essence of Africa and is has far more depth than the more politically correct, revolutionary hype which has since then been hyped to death and is in fact ` full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
No - my Africa is symbolized by Shaka Zulu and the late Margaret Singana. The hills of KwaZulu and not the halls of Marxist universities.
OH MY WORD!!!! THIS CD IS BEAUTIFUL!!.......2003-12-04
Words can not explain how much I enjoyed this cd!!!
My husband bought this cd for me last week and I have been playing it non stop ever since.
Track #10 Pampata(Wemsheli Wami) has got to be one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard!!! I'm trying to convince my son and future daughter inlaw to use it as their wedding song.

Fun Songs!.......2005-12-13
We just moved from Hawaii to the mainland this summer. We really miss the Hawaiian radio stations. My 2 year old son and I love the "Come A'ama Crab" song, and that is the reason we bought this cd. All the songs are great... most we knew already. We never heard "Rubber Slipper" and "What am I Gonna Do" before, and now they are our favorites too.
Great CD.......2005-03-17
My children (all under 12) and I absolutely love this CD. The first time we listened to it, we could not stop laughing! They have probably played it a million times since. It is good, fun, Hawaiian music at its best.
Great CD.......2005-03-03
This CD is fun... Love the songs ... Hopes there will be a Vol. 2

Shaka's Enlightened best.......2002-03-22
Having seen Shaka Live at the controls it is no wander he has captured the spirit of a live dancehall in this CD. He is the master of Reggae music played live his natural DJ skills at the mike or not equalled in my opinion. Its just such a shame he does not include the siren and other sound effects that make his brand of dub unique. Its also a shame that that the CD is not available to ship internationally via Amazon.com
Dubroom Review.......2001-11-09
Two Giants clash: Jah Shaka meets the Mad Professor in a new decade of Dub. The decade has past, the music remains. What happens when two GIANTS in Dub meet? You'll get a collection of some rough and tough stuff as I would say! This is a CD that should be in every serious Dub collector's home, because it contains some of the hardest steppers riddims from the 1990's.
It doesn't happen so many times, that after I've finished playing an album, I rewind and play it again. This is one of those very few exceptions. The drum and the bass sound like thunder and lightning, and thunder and lightning it is: many songs come with samples from Louis Farrakhan from the Nation Of Islam, dubbed in and out in waterfalls of echo.
The music is hard! Most of the 11 tracks are steppers, in the traditional UK Steppers style: super tight, and with a low, hard and monotone bassline to guide you through the song. The mixes contain many atmospherical changes, vaguely reminding me of the Conscious Sounds studio's. Beautiful percussion plays. Guitar shots that cut like a razor.
I've read a review from this album saying it's kind of mediocre, but I absolutely disagree and play this one every time. And everytime I play it, the music screams to be played louder and louder, until the house start shaking and the windows are breaking.
POUNDING UK ROOTS.......2001-10-03
This is a very reasonable example of UK roots...by that I mean UK sound system culture, imported by Jamaicans when they came to UK..Of course, since the sound system boom in London in the late 70's,the world has a whole lot to thank the likes of Jah Shaka for...eg the seismic blast of nu skool jungle and drum and bass,an obvious "younger brother" of dub,not forgetting the brooding darkness of trip hop, which is well known for its ties to uk dubwize...This isnt the best example of Shaka by any means...check out his video "Visions" for a true representation of what it means to experience the true raw power of the mystic Shaka, shaman, guided by the Zulu king, and the emperor Haile Sellasie. Also check out "Message to Africa",a truly spiritual vocal and dubwize excursion, featuring some sufferers style, and mystic female chant. As for mad prof...for my money, his best stuff is the later stuff(circa 96--98)he did with the great UK duo,Mafia and Fluxy.Still, this is a fine cd...turn of all the treble, max the bass...BOOM,let it drop!
Superb.......2000-04-10
This CD shows that it's really possible to make an album with two highly individualistic artists, each with his own way around the studio, and still come out with something where the collaborative elements are highly visible (audible?). Though it's not hard to find Mad Professor's CDs, Jah Shaka is another story. Try his "Dub Symphony" or small specialty stores. They well deserve the effort.

Wicked.......2003-12-21
Awesome CD. my favorites are creation and wicked man tell me why you wan come mash up jah plan especially with all the stuff going on the world right now. if you are not into conscious reggae or your into to dancehall dont buy this cd and if you listen to music only for the rhythm and not words that have meaning definitely dont buy the cd if your looking for great rhythm and words that make sense and come straight from the heart buy the Cd wanna jump for Jah creation redeemer most high creation. awesome
A classic and unique roots masterpiece.......2001-08-20
Creation is simply one the best roots reggae recordings ever produced! I have been listening to and collecting reggae for the past 16 years and I consider Creation one of the top ten of my few hundred or so reggae recordings that I own. Every song on this cd is excellent. Closer Now, Pieces of Africa, Wicked Man, No Sleep Tonight and Galang are truly works of genius. Boom Shaka's style is a definately unique (but not wierd)which makes this LP stand out. I first bought the LP in 1988 and upgraded to the CD(due to many scratches from heavy use) and now my CD is too scratched as well. Which may be a good thing because I see the CD now has three dub versions that were not on the original release. It looks like I will have to buy it again and it is well worth it! A must own for reggae enthusiasts. Thanks to Boom Shaka for this masterpiece! Jah Lives!
kinda wierd.......2000-09-20
i listened to this and honestly i have to say that its kind of wierd. Its like a wyclef rastafari sort of deal. I guess it would be alright to go JAMMIN to the beach or something. I dont know.
