movie review.......2007-06-25
Having never been to Paris and always wanting to, this film served as a good introduction to the vast number of neighborhoods that make up the city. The only one i've known about was Montmartre, the neighborhood on the hill which is Paris' highest elevation. But with that said, this film is not really an examination of all these neighborhoods. All they really do is serve as a backdrop to the human drama and comedy that make up the 18?-is-it?, mini-stories that make up this film. Each segment begins with the name of the particular neighborhood the segment takes place in.
The entire film kept me interested throughout except for a couple of the entries. There were moments of positively enraptured elegance and mystery.....I think my favorite segment starred Juliet Binoche as a grieving mother who is visited by a ghostly cowboy played by Willem Defoe who asks her if she wants to see her son. A romantic light/drama set in the overwhelming Paris cemetary was a highlight("friends stab you in the front"-Oscar Wilde) and comic relief with Steve Buchemi set in the Paris Metropolitan(their subway system)was welcomed. A man learns that his wife has leukemia just as he was preparing to split up with her. A comical portrait of a mime takes place around the Eiffel Tower. The final segment featuring a lonely American woman vacationing by herself in the Paris she has always dreamt of reaching, I'm not sure how i feel about it. I feel sad for her despite her segment-ending revelation that Paris has made her understand and appreciate that she is alive. This will be a good purchase when it comes out on DVD. See it in your theaters is you get a chance

The American Experience Encapsulated.......2007-06-23
For more than twenty years now, I've been listening to this haunting music and it has never dulled. Revisiting it now, in my forties, I find it overwhelmingly sad....tracks #2 "Poverty" and #3 "Deborah's Theme" crystallize what I think is the theme of the movie: how a group of young people coming of age just when the country itself is coming into its own can, like the leadership of the country, make choices that impact the rest of their lives. Can they....can the country...find redemption? Like great fiction, and, many would say, like the movie, it has different meanings as you listen to it at different stages in your own life. I call that music for the ages. This one will be regarding as a classic long after my generation has left the earth.
Best Album Ever!.......2007-06-13
I've hundreds of movie soundtracks but this far by the best soundtract I've heard...The quality of the CD and the music from Morricone is timeless. The music is so haunting and so melancholic that feel inside of you. I highly recommend this album.
Once Upon a Time in America Soundtrack.......2007-03-18
For years I have trying to find this! It is beyond wonderful and moving!
One of the best movie soundtracks.......2007-03-08
Of all the soundtracks I own, this is probably the best. Morricone's skills and talent are evident on this CD. The information in the included leaflet give even more insight into the filming and composing of this classic film.
Timeless.......2005-02-24
You will not go wrong with this album. Every track is a masterpiece. If you loved the movie, you must have the accompanying soundtrack. I've had it for 15 years and when the mood strikes, there is nothing like it. Now, this version also comes with a few unreleased tracks. You can't lose!

Another Morricone Masterpiece.......2007-01-24
Once Apon a Time in The West...have you seen the movie? Have you ever heard of this movie? If you are a 'western' freak, a spaggetti western tragic, a serious film student or immersed in popular cultural history it is hard to imagine how powerfull Sergio Leone's westerns would have been without the creative magic of Morricone's musical soundtracks.
Putting an accurate finger on the pulse of these gems is not easy.If you are connected to where music can take you......go along for this ride.I've seen recently that Morricone is touring...performing these tracks.Catch him while you can.
Haunting and Evocative.......2006-02-07
Ennio Morricone's score for THE GOOD,THE BAD AND THE UGLY is probably more recognizable to most people but I think this is some of the most stirring and majestic music ever created for a film; Morricone uses a symphony augemented by other instruments and the result: the best mix of harmonica, orchestral instruments and electric guitar and banjo ever. Once you hear it you will never forget it. Beautiful stuff.
Astoundingly beautiful music from the quintessential western opera!.......2006-01-20
It is not an exaggeration to say that the music on this CD is incredibly beautiful. And if ever anything has been composed that evokes the images and emotions of the West-this is it! Strange that a bunch of italians produced a western movie that captures this genre in a way that makes John Wayne look like a city slicker!! See the movie and buy the music and on this CD-it has additional songs that aren't usually put on the soundtrack. The songs are hauntingly beautiful, lonely, and the images in your head will be those of the vast, open western landscape-from Nebraska to Arizona. And, of course, the drama and emotions of the characters.
In the director's discussion of the movie, it was said that the movie was written to the music. A must have. . .
Ennio Morricone's grand musical score for "C'era una volta il West".......2005-08-14
John Williams gets a lot of the credit for the revival of the motion picture film score, mainly on the strength of his work for "Jaws" and "Star Wars." I can remember reading the linear notes for the double-album of the later which explained how each character had a theme and how Williams wove these all together. That was all impressive, and "Star Wars" is certainly on my list of Top 10 soundtracks of all time, but I saw "Once Upon A Time In The West" a decade earlier and so I know that Ennio Morricone had already done that. For me in the decade of the Sixties the only other comparable film scores for an epic film are what Maurice Jarre did for "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Doctor Zhivago." Still, I will maintain that no film score in that decade was as important to the story being told as Morricone's score for "C'era una volta il West."
Pertinent Aside: There is much to be said for composers who work with particular directors to great success. This would obviously include John Williams and Steven Spielberg, Maurice Jarre and David Lean, Bernard Hermann and Alfred Hitchcock, and Ennio Morricone and Sergio Leone. For that last pair, "C'era una volta il West" represents each at their peak. No wonder this Spaghetti Western is a mythic representation of the Old West.
I am still fascinated by how Morricone employs variations of his themes. The main title theme sounds like a classical composition, with the soaring voices of the Modern Singers of Allessandroni, but then comes back as a simple violin piece for "A Dimly Lit Room." "As a Judgment" uses the fuzz of an electric guitar to establish the movie's "showdown" theme, while "Farewell to Cheyenne" weaves together whistling and the rhythm of a horse clopping along the trail. Morricone strips down the latter to be "The First Tavern." "Man With a Harmonica" has the wailing of the title instrument but with the underlying theme of "As a Judgment" working through it until we finally find out at the point of dying why Harmonica wants Frank dead. But the composer also strips the underlying music down farther in "The Man," while the harmonica becomes totally distorted in "Death Rattle." Morricone even anticipates the "Star Wars" music for the Cantina band with his old "Bad Orchestra."
Of course, now that I have listened to the score again I have to follow up by watching the movie, which remains my favorite western (and the first classic in the genre I actually got to see in a movie theater as opposed to discovering on television decades later). But I have to do that because ultimately it is a grave disservice to divorce the soundtrack from the movie, because there are so many key sequences where Morricone's music replaces the dialogue. This is especially true of the climatic duel between Harmonica (Charles Bronson) and Frank (Henry Fonda), and the entire end title sequence where Jill (Claudia Cardinale) brings out the water to the men working on the railroad. In fact, I think I can make a very good case that no other film score in movie history is as important to the story and as prominent in the overall equation of the film as what Morricone composed for "C'era una volta il West."
Of course, you can only come to this score through the film, and once you have seen the film there is no need to convince you of either the effectiveness or the importance of this score. Finally, I want to contend what we have here is the best film score not to be nominated for an Oscar and in case you were wondering the best film score to be nominated but not win is Randy Newman's one for "The Natural." Both are among the film scores nominated for consideration in the American Film Institute's 100 Years of Film Scores (which is, apparently, simply going to be a concert at the Hollywood Bowl on September 23, 2005 and not a list like AFI has put out for the Top 100 Movies, Songs, Quotes, etc. Morricone's scores for "The Mission," "Once Upon a Time in America," and "The Untouchables" have been nominated as well, but this one is still the best of the bunch by far.
The Master of Soundtracks.......2005-04-06
When speaking about soundtracks,There is only one true master and his name is Ennio Morricone. The "Once Upon A Time In The West", the Import version, is a true gem. It took me 37 years to find this soundtrack and it will always be a treasure. One of the features of the Import version are the 7 bonus tracks. It is hard to imagine owning this soundtrack, without hearing "Morton".For those who remember the movie, know all the main charaters had their own specific tune. I wish Morton's tune could have been longer. Who can forget the hypnotic harpsichord, associated with Jill in the movie, on the opening title track. This soundtrack is truly a masterpiece and Ennio Morricone's best.

Tan Dun, How can you not love him?.......2006-10-01
Simply put, the soundtrack will take your breath away. The Banquet is the best interpretation of Shakespeare's Hamlet so far. And Tan Dun's music has played a major role in helping the motion picture to jump to an awesome level of artistic achievement. In this world where great screenplays are scarce, adapting the immortal masterpiece to interesting backdrop is a very smart thing to do as a filmmaker.

Album Description
McLeod's Daughters is one of Australia's most popular television dramas, currently in it's second season. Throughout the series one of the most enthralling parts has been how the original music in each episode has captured the emotion and feeling of the situations of the characters within the show. This CD brings together the beautiful vocals of Rebecca Lavelle, with the songwriting talents of Chris Harriott, Posie Graeme-Evans and Michaeley O'Brien on 12 original tracks. From the opening track 'Understand Me', to the heartfelt closing ballad 'My Heart Is Like A River', McLeod's Daughters is an inspiring body of work.

Customer Reviews:
Great soundtrack to one of the best & most important video games in video game history, but could of been much better!!!.......2007-03-28
this soundtrack is with out a doubt one of the best musical scores i own hands down. theres just that it about it. very relaxing, very happy, very dramatic, & very whoa...thats creepy & just gave me goose bumps. all 82 are classics in my opinion. with that said there are some annoyances & drawbacks. one is that alot of these tracks are just to short plain & simple. a coulple more loops per tracks would do these tracks more justice(I.E. ice cavern & fire temple with an average of 40-45 sec.?????). speaking of the fire temple, there was supposedly some sort of anger some muslims had reguarding the messages(fire temple chanting), there was a protest by them, & nintendo(in the muslims favor)respectivly removed the chanting(as found in the 1.0 & 1.1 versions of the n64 game)& instead replaced it with a new reworked version(as heard in the 1.2 n64 version & all gamecube versions). i like both versions but i like the reworked version a little better(it just has that creepy goose bump feeling about it). it reminds me alot of the shadow temple with those weird deep voices(organ like). i just basically call the new version shadow temple part 2. now with that said...the fire temple theme on this cd is only 42 sec. long. they could of indeed used the new reworked 1.2 version with the organ like voices to make it better & more complete. no istead they just strip most of it & all you end up with is just the fire temple intro. pretty dumb on nintendo's part to do this. bottom line...this should of been a 2 cd set to really let the tracks have their time to shine, & the reworked fire temple theme should of made it to this set(with about a 2 min average)instead of this short track thats on this set. i still recommend this great piece of history along with the the majora's mask 2-cd soundtrack, majora's mask orchestrations, the ocarina of time hyrule symphony, ocarina of time re-arranged, the wind waker 2-cd soundtrack, zelda the music soundtrack, & the zelda sound collection soundtrack. there are other zelda soundtracks floating around that have'nt made it to their official pressings yet(the minish cap, the legend of zelda, the adventure of link, a link to the past, link's awakening, oracle of ages, oracle of seasons, a link to the past: four swords, four swords adventures, phantom hourglass, & twilight princess). all this great music just sitting there in the nintendo vaults just rotting away. when it could in fact be made into the ultimate zelda anthology cd set. 21 cd's worth of essential zelda greatness. i wish nintendo would stop letting their music go to waste & just do something with it like turn them into big box sets. anyway i recommed this OOT soundtrack to all.
Great music, bad price.......2007-03-22
When people think of Legend of Zelda, they don't just see Link with his Master Sword and shield; they hear his music, too! As a Zelda fan, this CD is a very good reflection of the sense of pride I can feel when I play the game. =D
However, you shouldn't pay $50 for it. If you go to a Japanese import site, like CDJapan, you can find it new for only $20! Amazon just can't compare. Just search for "zelda" and you should find it. ^_^
BUY THIS CD!!!!!!.......2007-01-12
JUST BUY IT!!!!!!! and get a master sword too. there both found here on amazon!
Phenomenal.......2006-09-29
I've always been impressed with Koji Kondo's compositions for the Zelda and Mario series, and this is no exception -- most styles of music are represented here, and all of them have fantastic melodies. The instrumentals (all simulated, of course) are just right. Purchase this immediately if you're a fan of the video game, or just good music.
Best stuff ever--period........2006-08-31
Okay, I don't usually listen to orchestras and stuff. I listen to Heavy Metal, like Trivium and Slipknot. This CD is a LONG way from that. I love it. I played the game 1 year ago. I still remember, picture perfect, what I was doing when that song played. Shooting arrows at the sun, fighting Ganondorf, fighting Ganon, everything. This CD is just awesome. If you have played Zelda: OOT, you better buy this CD. It kicks butt.

Soaring.......2005-08-23
Another soaring score from John Barry, whose fantastic music sounds better every time.
This soundtrack is a definite change in his style, and was followed up by Somewhere in Time and Out Of Africa. The three together are the best romantic scores to come out of the 1980's.
Flying over China.......2003-09-09
Does anyone remember "flying over Africa" from Out of Africa?
The flying scenes don't compare, but some may find High Road to Chinas' music soars even beyond. I do? John Barry's early music is his best. His more recent scores use the same style orcestrations showing that he has found a style that he loves and is sticking to it. His music doesn't surprise me any more, I always know when it's him. His older material is his most original and diverse. This one is just beautiful and would easily make any score fans' top 10.
Hauntingly beautiful........2003-07-15
The music from High Road to China, as presented on this CD, is simply outstanding, and is hauntingly beautiful. The music is evocative of scenes and situations in the movie, and I highly recommend buying the movie with Tom Selleck and Bess Armstrong, which I believe is available only in VHS format. I wish it were available on DVD.
Beautiful piece of work........2001-08-04
The soundtrack is truly magnificent. John Barry captured the beauty of the film and the chemistry between the characters with a piece of music so emotionally stirring it touches the very soul. Mr. Barry, I salute you.
John Barry Touches The Spirit.......2001-03-12
'High Road To China' is yet another lovely and poignant John Barry score to rejoice to or weep to. The music is marvelous, and the sound quality of this CD is excellent. John Barry shows us again in this soundtrack his extraordinary ability to score action and events not for what they appear to be on the screen, but from inside what the characters are feeling, wondering and deciding.
'Somewhere In Time', 'Out of Africa', 'Dances With Wolves' and 'High Road To China' all have that distinctive Barry flavor -- tender, moving, searching, reaching, evoking every deep emotion we've ever chosen to feel, his phrases, changes, harmonies and arrangements touching the essence of the questions we ask about life. And often rearranging our perspective in a way that helps us find better answers...
I admire Barry's courage in saying the same thing over and over -- that life can be successfully lived only through the heart, for living through the heart is the only way we ever learn who we are and why we are here. But he says it a little differently each time, touching new places in one's spirit. Sound intriguing? Buy all four soundtracks and you might find you play them often because his music gently opens your heart.
'High Road To China' is music that lives beautifully on its own. If you are willing to spend some time of your life feeling your feelings and letting the embracing and often haunting music take you where you will, John Barry is your friend.

Fantastic.......2006-06-02
When we bought the second volume of Mcleods Daughters I wasn't so sure that it would be as good as the first one but I was definatley wrong, there is such a mixture of happy songs and sad songs which brings back so many memories from the series. I can't wait for them to release another CD.If you are a fan of Mcleods and have not bought this then do you will have hours of endless memories from the series
Fabulous!.......2006-01-31
If you love the series McLeod's Daughters you'll love the soundtrack as well! There are so many memories and reminds you of the show every time you listen to it!
mclouds daughters rocks.......2005-12-04
i grew up in the area that mclouds daughters was filmed... and its great to see that it is on TV and on CDs in stores in America where i now live... i have met most of the cast and crew when they were filming the first season... and they are great people and it is excellent to see the sucess soar above all expectations.... oh and for all you who are wondering... Nick is even more attractive in person (and you didnt think it was possible)
Songs of the Outback.......2005-10-12
As an avid fan of the show the music is the next best thing to seeing it. It is produced in Australia so we don't get to see enough episodes. That is why the the background songs are very endearing. It has a quality that is different than most and is hard to put it in a specific genre.

Cinq pas Deux ( 5 x 2 ).......2007-07-13
One of the best soundtracks I've ever owned. Truly amazing. Paolo Conte, Luigi Tenco, et. al., are all terrific. I listen to it every single day. Haunting... If you appreciate exquisitely romantic, mood-setting music, please consider this for your library.

Customer Reviews:
Big disappointment.......2007-02-15
I returned this CD unopened. It had a sticker on it saying it had been made in Colombia or someplace else in S. America! The song, "Jump", by the Pointer Sisters in the movie, wasn't even BY the Pointer Sisters on the CD. If it's a soundtrack, what is THAT about?!?
NOT THE MOVIE DVD SOUNDTRACK AT ALL.......2007-01-23
You will be disappointed if buy this thinking it will be as good or JUST LIKE the DVD/Movie soundtrack, SORRY.
By far the best song on the CD is the best one in the movie, Olivia Olson singing All I want for Christmas. It is nearly as good as the movie and BETTER than mariah carey.
There may be some issues between the USA and import versions reported in other reviews.
Jump, All you need is love, Christmas is all around....NOT THE SAME and disappointing.
All the songs are on my CD--but still disappointed.......2006-11-06
Not sure about the complaints below about PM's Love Theme missing--my import soundtrack has it. (There seem to be at least three differnt love actually souncrtacks, so it might be possible to buy one that doesn't have the tracks you want!). Mine matches the track listing shown above for this item. However, Jump is not the Pointer Sister's version that was in the movie (it is some rather hollow faux disco number), the Billy Mack cut is not well-mixed nor is All You Need is Love, where the instrumental additions in the chruch scene seem to have been cut out, giving a monotonous and repetitive chorus that goes on and on. I LOVE the film and have watched it far too many times, but the soundtrack doesn't meet my expectations. Were I you, I'd save my money.
missing something.......2006-02-24
Ok! I am not slamming this CD. It is a great CD. But, where is Craig Armstrong's Portugese Love Theme? I tried ordering this CD and was continually getting the Amazon.com is sorry but there is a delay in your order email. I googled the soundtrack and it came up on amazon.com/uk. Very happy to see the extra tracks included (Wherever You Will Go by The Calling is also included.) My main reason for the soundtrack was for PM's Love Theme which is not available on the domestic release. Never knew you could get a soundtrack with Portugese Love Theme on it as well. I was pleasantly surprised and bought it on the spot. Was actually less expensive to purchase and ship airmail then to purchase domestically as an import. Needless to say but will say anyway, I cancelled my amazon.com order and received my import directly from amazon/uk. My advice...if you are interested in this soundtrack, try amazon.com/uk.
Loved it.......2006-02-23
I bought this version mostly for track 18 which is not on the American version. I love the movie and love the music in it. I plan on having the last song play as the recession song in my wedding.
